He deserves all the love he's about to get from the fandom.

I met Jake at Celebration V in 2010. It was my first ever fan convention, and I had been obsessed with Star Wars for years. I met several other celebs, Carrie Fisher, Jeremy Bulloch, and Peter Mayhew (RIP to all), and my last celeb was between Kenny Baker (RIP) or Jake Lloyd. It had to be Jake as TPM is my favorite SW movie. I came up to his table, dressed as Princess Leia (lol), with a picture for him to sign and very nervously told him that he was my hero growing up. As he was signing, he looked up at me and smiled and said, "Wow, thank you so much." He was so sincere. After he signed my picture, I got bold and asked for a photo together, which he graciously obliged. I thanked him once again for being so kind to take a photo with me. He was nothing but sweet to me. As I walked away from his table, I looked down at the photo he signed. Just underneath his signature he had written, "Are you an angel?" It made my heart swell, and I couldn't stop smiling. To this day, as I watch that scene in TPM where Anakin asks Padme that same question, I can't help but smile and reminisce on that sweet moment I had when meeting him. I hope Jake knows how loved by the fans he truly is. We all want to see you live your very best life and heal in the ways you need to. If Jake or someone that knows him sees this, please know that we love you, Jake. You were THE hero to so many of us. Take care ❤
UPDATE: I have been wanting to find my signed photo from Jake, and truth be told, I hadn't seen it in years because of how often I've moved these past 10+ years. It's been stored in a box, and I just found it! So I misremebered exactly how it was signed. He actually wrote out my name first on top, underneath that is "Are you an angel?", and under that is his signature. Which makes this all the more heartwarming that he didn't just hurriedly sign his name, but he actually took the time to listen to my geeky ramblings, ask for my name, and took his time in writing what he did. Again, I will say, he was an absolute sweetheart to me, and seeing this photo again is giving me all the feels! Happy Star Wars Day 2024!

@imsorrythatimright6082 ya know, the thought did cross my mind (we are the same age, btw lol)! My mom, who was with me at the convention, even said, "I bet you he thinks you're pretty!" I wasn't so convinced. I figured he was just being nice to some nerdy chick and would write that on plenty of photos. Even so, it still made my day and made me feel extra special.

Neither Jake or Ahmed were abused. This is revisionist history that gets worst every 5yrs by toxic journalists and toxic “fans” who don’t know any better either due to their age or gullibility (these are the same “fans” that call everyone racist as a shield against shitty writing and acting”
Ahmed was never abused because no one even knew his name, because no one cared.

The criticism was for Jar Jar and directed at George.
Jake was never abused, he was a exploited by his parents and the media, over time this has been purposely misconstrued as a shield by the same media that drove him out of the industry (that, and the fact he can’t act; Jingle all the way is awful)
There was no social media abd 8yr olds were pretty much non-existent on the very young internet.
Jake even admits this in several interviews
A couple of kids made lightsaber sounds at him in school abd he was hounded by the media because he was anakin in the first SW movie in 15yrs.
He was doing upto 15 interviews a da, everyday for 6months and had media camped outside his home.
The only abuse was the lack of empathy by the media to a kid who just wanted to go outside and play

He got strange letters from people which his mother largely guarded him from. He was followed by some weirdos a few times and religious fanatics too. That doesn't sound like fandom harassment. That sounds like other people allowing their own unhinged behavior get the better of them. So that to me says that Ivan's right. Jack's mom even stated that she largely guarded him from all of that. Even this article points out that he literally retired because of his own struggles with his schizophrenia. I don't see anything that Ivan said that could be construed as continued harassment. He was quit literally pointing out a fact that the Internet wasn't a thing back then for fans to use to harass Jack on since social media didn't even exist. The most people had where blogs. Hell Facebook wasn't a thing until 2006, 2 years before Jack left for college. I'm truly perplexed by your irrational rant about how this guy is going out of his way to harass Jake further. Given your response I can only surmise you didn't even listen to or watch the video above about Jack's journey with mental health and the struggle it presented.
It's so sadly ironic that the actor would suffer just as much, if not more, than the fictional character he played as. I'm glad he's doing better now.
I mean, to be fair, at least he didn't get burns all over his body and was forced to wear a cybernetic suit for the rest of his life, so that's always something. Really feel for the guy though. Kids can be cruel to each other.

I met Jake in 2008 at MegaCon in Orlando. Great kid. His line wasn't too crazy so we got to chat for a few minutes. I recall he asked me questions about being a first gen SW fan and what it was like seeing the original trilogy in cinemas. Told him that he had that gift that some actors have where when they're smiling they have an angelic look about them, but when those brows furrow and those eyes glare, it's darker than the pits of hell. He made the perfect child Vader. He liked that. Funny moment at our photo op, there was an X in duct tape on the floor where you were supposed to stand next to the celebrity. I didn't see it and I was about a foot away from it. Jake looked at me, smiled and said (angelically), "Peter..." (and then the brows furrowed and he bellowed) "HIT YOUR MARK!" Everyone started laughing, and I made an obscene hand gesture at him and said, "Oh, force THIS, kid!" Jake cracked up. In our photo, we both look like we're holding back laughing, and WE ARE. That was such a fun day, and I hope he sees this and remembers that. Wishing him and his mom all the best.

One of my favorite lines from the Phantom Menace that always makes me tear up when I hear it is: "Mom, you've always said the biggest problem in this Universe is that nobady helps each other.'' - Anakin Skywalker. That just shows the innocence of Anakin and that he really wants to help make the Universe a better place. Star Wars wouldn't be the same without Jake Lloyd. I'm glad to hear he's doing better.

Schizophrenia, a horrible mental disease, is a very difficult to treat, with misdiagnosis, trial and error of potent medications ( one size doesn't fit all) with many adverse affects, also leading to compliance issues. Sadly, the disease can be inherited. The poor guy has gone through so, so, so much. His loving mother sounds like an amazing saint. Living with someone with such a debilitating disease is so difficult, requires much patience yet interspersed with feelings of helplessness. Jake did a great job of portraying a young innocent, positive Anakin and whenever I see Vader, I still see that young boy, which is tragic. It warms my heart that he loves Star Wars. Hugs to him
Not gonna lie this made me emotional. As a 3 year old kid I watched Phantom Menace repeatedly and Jake Loyd was a massive part of my childhood. I hope he recovers and can live a normal life it’s sad to see what happened to him but I believe in him

@@synthWizkid nah the prequels were great, I’ve rewatched them as an adult and I like them just as much as the originals. Revenge of the Sith is arguably the best Star Wars movie. The fight scenes in the every prequel movie are incredible as well compared to the lame slow style of the originals. The originals have better storylines but the tragic fall of Anakin in the prequels is really cool to me

I have absolutely loved Jake in everything he has appeared in, but none more than The Phantom Menace. My entire generation was the same age as him when that movie released and we grew up with him as our young Anakin. Those who have hated him and driven him to depression should be ashamed of themselves. Jake is a good guy and my heart is with him. If youre reading this Jake, I love you and you are in my prayers.

I think Lisa is actually saying people didnt drive him to depression. She kept him away from any backlash as she said she didnt let him use the internet. He had a normal childhood, just with some classmates occasionally making lightsaber noises.
Unfortunately she says his illness was more than likely genetic, and would have happened regardless. Either way I'm glad he's doing much better and I wish him nothing but love and respect. He brought so much joy to so many people.

I was 5 when the ‘Phantom Menace’ released, so I loved it and the prequel trilogy has a lot of meaning to me. I didn’t know about all that was going on with Jake until later on. It’s sickening that so many people were so cruel to someone that was a literal child. As someone who suffers from severe chronic illness, including some mental health issues, my heart goes out to him and I’m so happy to hear he’s doing well.
W mom, keeping your young kids offline is one of the best things you can do for them. I hope Jake makes a full recovery and goes on to have a great life

I remember reading a kids magazine back in the year 2000 and Jake Llyod answered questions about being chosen to play Anikan Skywalker and what it was like being in such a big movie, never knew the hate for his character was so bad.

Thank you for bringing this to light. I just met Hayden at Awesome Con in DC, he was there with Rosario. He's very introverted but he appreciates all the love everyone has for him he loves his fans. He stayed at the con with Rosario well past 10pm to do autographs. The con closed at 7! I hope Jake gets better so he can see the love we all have for him.

I'm so glad he is getting help. I always felt awful when I heard about the backlash and the bully rumors. Especially because I think Jake did the best he could, and did what Lucas wanted. I'm glad he is in a better place now, and I hope it stays that way. :)
We have not forgotten Jake. My first Starwars movie was Phantom Menace and i loved it, mostly cuz of Jake's performance as a kid who wanted to goto the stars.
Alot of people don't realize that being bullied for being a nerd was once very prevalent, and still is in some places, luckily it's not as bad as it used to be.

Like they would ask these super wierd questions and pretend they played the game themselves to make fun of me like i was some wierdo. Ironic, i could never understand their motivation for it, it was almost like it was some unheard alien thing. Like people i had never met or talked to in school would add "gaming" to my name as if it was some "funny" story or myth almost.. lol, i cant stand idiotic humans that judge from positions of total ignorance, and just because something is new its super "wierd" while acting like a bunch of wierdos
@@cognitivedisability9864 Me too, whether it was anime or gaming. I didn't even do the Naruto run or anything, I just talked to my friends and still got picked on. Lucky for me when I got into highschool I was really buff in the locker room and was funny, so they wouldn't make fun of me, instead they would try to smash me or be my friend, despite me openly liking anime; Meanwhile, the more stereotypical looking nerds got bullied hard for it. The only bullying outside of video games or anime was for me being smart, or "Tryna be white!" I would always answer the questions in my classes correctly, and there was always a small group of ratchet girls who wouldn't shut up. Not that big of a deal though, since I was physically bullied in elementary, but yea, seeing those same bullies pretend to be into my hobbies pisses me off.

I really hope Jake and his mom see this video. I'm the same age as you guys, just turned 34 yesterday. So I'm also someone that grew up on Jake's portrayal of Anakin. I always thought he did a fantastic job for being so young. Never knew he got such hate for it for so long until a number of years ago. Never understood it and it breaks my heart that he's suffered the way he has. I can relate to him in some ways with that level of depression. Really hope the best for him!

Jake’s performance as anakin is what made darth Vader even scarier. This innocent boy who loves helping people somehow became the most feared man in the galaxy. He nailed it as did Hayden, as a 23 year old now I watch Hayden and i can see why he was such an amazing complex character with so many layers. Fuck the media they ruin everything

Don’t you think it’s weird to compare a child actor to a professionally trained actor? Hayden even more so (in Ashoka) has really grown in his craft and his complex portrayal of Vader is a highlight for me. Although Jakes story is sad, he just played a happy kid, a bit stilted in some of lines, but nothing extraordinary.
@@Indust12349 I do think that comparing them is difficult as they they do play different people in a way you look at yourself at aged 8 and compare it to yourself now, yes you are similar but I guarantee there’s been a huge change so a comparison is unfair. (For clarification also I wasn’t comparing the two but if you’re making reference to media comparing it or any other “critic” then ye that’s just daft.
I do think some lines are cringe but Star Wars has a bit of cringe in every film anyway, “are you an angel” is cringe however, a sweet kid would maybe say that it’s just a rubbish chat up line but cutting him some slack as he is 8.

He was too young to be on the internet in a time where patents were too scared to let any child on there coz of the whole “don't talk to strangers”
His mother even says in this video that he wasn't on the internet and he didn't know about the backash

hearing about how difficult a journey Jake had and that he is slowly recovering did actually bring a tear to my eye he is such a strong guy and i hope he dose make a full recovery and like theory said i also hope he is eventually able to fully enjoy his life the way he wants
Thank you! I've been saying this for years now. He wasn't "bullied by fans" as is the narrative when calling the fandom "toxic" because of the sequels backlash. He was bullied at school, but not online, and anyone claiming that doesn't remember how little the internet was part of our lives in that time.

I met him at a Star Wars Celebration weekends in Florida in the early 2000's. And he was very gracious and open. I got a few autographs.

25 years later after i saw it at the cinema Episode 1 is still my favorite Star wars movie! Jake is a big part of that.

I am glad that the actor is improving on his mental health and well being. The toxicity and negativity of any fandom is truly powerful.
While neither of us know the truth, his mother is on record saying that he quit acting because of family issues, nothing to do with Star Wars. Maybe it's time that we stop gossiping and speculating when it flies in the face of what his family have stated. Especially when they are simply trying to correct the narrative.

I was a kid when Star Wars Episode 1 came out. I loved it and rewatched it countless times then and I still watch it all the time now. I have always loved Jake Lloyd’s role in the film. I wish him the best and am thankful for his part in Star Wars.
Jake Lloyd was great as Little Ani. I was always saddened by what happened to him in school and the struggles he had in his life post Star Wars. I hope he finds some sort of peace and fulfilment in life.

As a lifelong fan, just wanted to say that I and many I know absolutely love Jake and wish him nothing but the best in health and happiness and he has our thanks and respect for all he has done and gone through in his personal life
Jake looks great in the thumbnail. I work in mental health and there are some major challenges especially with schizophrenia. But when you see someone improve through therapy and/or helpful medications, it's very rewarding. Good luck Jake, stay strong bud

When I was young kid in high school I added Jake on Facebook (this was his authentic account) & strangely enough he accepted. I messaged Jake one day basically geeking out as this naive, immature kid that was also dealing with severe anxiety, depression, OCD & autism. Jake sent a few voice notes just being super kind & generous. He’s a really laid back, cool guy that has had a rough time & I would love nothing more then for him to get well & lead a happy life. Also for us fans to fully love & embrace him like we did Hayden whether he makes appearances down the road or not.
