Bringing me back to my high school days. My first vehicle I owned was an ‘01 Silverado Z71, absolutely loved it. And it’s still running just as good when it was pulled off the lot
We owned a towing business in the 80s and 90s and we ran 3 77 and 78 Chev trucks. We offered full offroad salvage and not once did we worry about them trucks letting us down.

The Trail Boss is an OK package, but for off road trekking in a factory Silverado the ZR2 is what you want. It’s plenty capable, looks good (opinion), and has very civil highway manners offering a better ride than most of the other packages geared towards rough terrain.

I had a 96’ Silverado 1500 4x4. First year of the Vortec engine. It was a beast.
My 2005 Silverado, 5th (and last) I'd owned, had the instrument cluster die at 60k, the brake lines rot at 110k, and a tranny rebuild at 130k. I've never owned a truck that had more issues.

Yes they are good looking, yes they are extremely sought after currently, but all of that would go away if they re released them. To compete with current trucks, they would need so many electronic upgrades it wouldn’t even feel like an old c/k truck.

I have the trailboss and I can honestly say I made the right move when it came to my first truck
The third gen C/K was probably the best built Chevy truck before they started cheaping out on the build quality and interior. You still see a lot of them. Also they stopped using “Like a Rock” when GM closed the plant in Bob Seger’s hometown and Bob said no more.
My 00 was a tough dude I would not buy one newer then 07 or 08 then they fell on there face with that active fuel management they started killing cams with that u can have it bypassed tho

I have a beat up 08 4.8 I use for the dump and plowing my driveway. It lacks a bit of power but it seems to just keep going. I’m happy with it.

Two laps in I got pinched between the two home depot trout and almost hit the guard rail at a buck twenty. Somebody didnt want me in that race. And I would have won if it wasn't for what happened in the that second to last corner. I'm not gonna name names but I think we all know whos got my number

My dad had a 2002 Silverado SS but he had to replace it with a Ford F-550, had that for a few years then it broke one morning (for the 63347th time) so he went out and came home with a brand new 2019 2500HD Silverado. My grandfather always used to have the biggest pickup you could get from C/K 3500s to the 2010s era silverados, eventually as he got older he downsized and the last vehicle he ever bought was a 2016 Silverado 1500 NorthWoods edition. Everyone in my family loves the Silverados, in fact my other grandfather currently has 2

I think that was before they were called Silverados
terminater 301 it was basically nothing but a engine swap
terminater 301, the NOSE-HEAVY (7.4L) 454SS was a C1500 regular cab SWB before they changed the name. The engine was the same as in the C / K 3500 (the only way you could buy the engine besides the 3500), not a "race special" like the latter SVT Lightning F-150...
MotorWeek's YT account downloaded recently their 454SS (in glorious black, of course...)"Retro Review" from way back then, check that out...
It's part of the C/K series when Silverado was just the name of the truck, like Cheyenne was for the other ones.

It really is sad that the Silverado SS got discontinued. If the Street performance pickup trend had stayed alive, I can only imagine how insane of numbers a Silverado SS, F-150 Lightning, or Ram SRT-10 could achieve in terms of horsepower, torque and top speed.

My dad originally bought a 2003 Silverado Crew Cab LS 1500 with the 5.3 Vortec which my grandfather now drives and it has 400k miles and only needed a water pump
Make an up to speed on Alpina. Just like RUF they are classified as a car manufacturer, not a tuner. Their older models were oldschool engine tuned while the looks were so classy😏

I miss my 96 Silverado, but I don't miss the transmissions blowing up and the electricals failing. Other than those two things there great. I think 1999-2003 are the best Silverados, but that's just my opinion.
@@gregmarcus1026 I think that the 4L60/80E transmissions were pretty good if taken care of but they are geared pretty low. Lucky for me i drive a 94 so i have the easy to work on tbi. 96 was the first year for vortec so it has some issues that might've been worked out in later years

I worked with a guy who would snort the rust off these things he loved them so much.
My dad had an 85 c10 Silverado he swapped out the 305 for a 350 put in some cams, edelbrock performer rpm heads, edelbrock intake manifold, 750 cfm carb, longtubes into full 3 inch exhaust. Loved that truck when i was a little kid but sadly he sold it to a guy down the street who then used it to plow snow.
So now the Pennsylvania road salt has rusted it the fenders are gone its got holes in the door but the man is fixing it putting new panels on and fixing the rot once again and has said if he sells it ill be the first to know.
