I had never been a Mopar fan, but my late stepfather was a diesel mechanic, gas station owner, and former over the road trucker who swore by Cummins diesels even though he only drove GM personal vehicles and gas powered light duty Chevy pickups. I looked for a Cummins powered Dodge RAM pickup specifically due to my dad's recommendation on Cummins diesels when I needed a 3/4 ton tow vehicle for my boat, which included towing boat + trailer rig weighing in at 6,000 lbs. I lucked out in finding this truck, purchased used for $27,000 in 2011. As a 73 year old retiree I could not afford a like for like new Laramie trim version now, nor even a 5 year old used one. In the Intermountain West no matter where you go you have to cross 5% and 6% mountain grades somewhere and 100+ degree summer heat to deal with. My late 3rd gen 5.9L RAM is the best, most reliable, vehicle I've ever owned and driven since I first got my driver license in 1969. Even all the little stuff still works. Also pulled an 18 ft travel trailer around the country on a 55 day, 9,600 miles road trip in 2017. The tranny has held up well so far. I have no need to juice it up with mods, the stock config is just fine for my purposes and budget. In AZ it has to pass smog test every year. So far in 13 years of ownership besides regular normal maintenance, which I firmly believe in preventive maintenance, I've had the A/C compressor replaced, the front end suspension rebuilt, the battery crossover cable replaced, and the muffler replaced. The muffler only went because the rear joint between the muffler and tail pipe rusted out, and that was likely due to all the times we launched & retrieved the boat in and out of salt water. Other than that just tires, batteries, oil and filter changes, tranny and radiator flushed. I use Kleen Diesel cetane boost fuel additive religiously. It now has just 167K miles on the odo. Awesome informative video. But Ram threw the 24v in there trucks starting in 1998.5, not 2003. I think 03 is when they switched from a VP44 to the CP3. But both had 24v heads
While I agree they probably should have a Dodge for a thumbnail, the Ford/ Cummins swap is probably the most popular swap out there. Especially for pulling trucks. That's probably why that used that
Derek Coiner I'd love them to go all the way back to dodge trucks history. I just can't stand that anytime a 1st gen ram is mention it goes to just diesel only. Dodga made some incredible gas trucks like the Macho Power Wagon, Lil' Red Express, etc.

I always just laughed that Cummins was across the street from Trojan storage. Some of these engines are being built less than 5 miles from my home. I assume they’re being built there. Or installed. It’s a few big industrial buildings with a bunch of docking bays and a rail connection, and semi trucks are always going in and out.
There's a shop 20 minutes from me and all they do is rebuilds. Brother in law just got a job there I'm tempted to leave my good transit job if he can get me on as a trade assistant. I'd lose like 20k a year but be able to say "I work for Cummins Diesel"

don´t forget about the beautiful sounding and heavy pulling 8.3 l Cummins that was in the older Case Magnum tractors :D
That and the 5.9 were originally designed for case tractors by cummins and manufactured by both case and cummins as the consolidated diesel corporation. If you look at a 5.9 and 8.3 side by side, they look pretty similar other than the 8.3 being bigger
@@wyattlewis8671 I didn't know that these engines where specifically designed for case, that's interesting. So the 5.9 l must've been in the first Maxxums. My dad used to have both of these tractors when i was younger, but he didn't keep the maxxum for as long so don't remember too much about it
@Luke Augustus No they have a Fiat Power Train engine like every other trackor build from CNH these days. I don't know how it performs in the Maxxum but we are very happy with the FPT engines in our New Holland T7's. They are Very fuel efficent, powerful and reliable.
Who else loves the alt James in the crowd lol, you peeps have an awesome channel. Don't ever change the recipe because it taste delicious, stay authentic, stay crispy.
10:23 did he just say horsepower?
"horsepower" isn't a word. I think you mean "hrspewers"
He did
he mispronounced hrsprs
Caught that too.
🤢
I am sure I am the 364th person to tell you, but the 24 valve came out at the end of 1998 model year to meet new emissions standards; not in 2003 like you said. Keep up the awesome vids. Love em!
I'm from Utah and that Mormon wasp joke was actually pretty funny😂😂
Alex Trappett and false
Awesome informative video. But Ram threw the 24v in there trucks starting in 1998.5, not 2003. I think 03 is when they switched from a VP44 to the CP3. But both had 24v heads
Lol that morman wasp joke was pretty good
I've been waiting so long for this my dreams have came true
I made a fortune on WoW btw
Do Chevy diesels!
man RIP to Clessie, you are a legend and will forever be a remembered for contributing to the progression of society
Diesel as well, its pretty sketchy how he 'fell' off the ship.
Nice...need a COSWORTH up to speed now
Why is there a *FORD* in the thumbnail
While I agree they probably should have a Dodge for a thumbnail, the Ford/ Cummins swap is probably the most popular swap out there. Especially for pulling trucks.
That's probably why that used that
LMFAO I NOTICED IT TOO
Ford used to own Cummins
RICH DISCOVERIES that’s gotta be why. I’ve never seen someone swap a PowerStroke in a Dodge😉
Because of that legendary 7.3 inline 6 cummins-stroke they put in their top of the line truck. You know, the one with one turbo per cylinder.
Watching this while warming up my 92 12 valve💪🏼🇺🇸🤘🏼
This is my favorite intro to any car video ive seen. Watch it as my daily morning routine.
11:22 I’ve re-watched this many times just for this part 😂😂
The intro was the best thing ever
Do Alfa next.
agreed ! Alfa or even fiat
Foreign trash lol
Moose Chocolate wow you’re really stupid
The intro alone derserves the like!!
Up to Speed for Dodge ram (non cummins) would be awesome! They had a lot of cool trucks
How about powerwagon, the ram moniker didn't come about till 1980, but Dodge had been making trucks and 4x4's since the 40's.
Derek Coiner ya you can’t talk about one, without the other😂
Derek Coiner I'd love them to go all the way back to dodge trucks history. I just can't stand that anytime a 1st gen ram is mention it goes to just diesel only. Dodga made some incredible gas trucks like the Macho Power Wagon, Lil' Red Express, etc.
@@christic5339 yesss
Lil' Red Express!
It's interesting watching you develop yourself. You've grown a lot.
Lmao. Mormom wasp. I live in utah, that shit was funny.

@@joseolarte7424 we go to Wendover.. Lmao
Your content is gold. Always appreciate your sense of humor 🤙
By the way this has been probably my favorite video to date! Keep up the good work guys!
I got declined from an internship at Cummins. Maybe if this video came out beforehand I would have gotten it.
Why is that?
@@Downstriker559 I guess I just wasn't the right fit. Probably because I hadn't done it yet... (08:55)
love these videos. so informative and hilarious at the same time.. keep em coming!
I drove a nissan titan xd with the cummins and they're surprisingly quick for a huge truck. That was such an awesome truck
Holy crap! They have a plant a mile from my high school! I’ve ran by it hundreds of times during cross country, and never knew what it was!
I live near one too, in fife WA
There's a shop 20 minutes from me and all they do is rebuilds. Brother in law just got a job there I'm tempted to leave my good transit job if he can get me on as a trade assistant. I'd lose like 20k a year but be able to say "I work for Cummins Diesel"
Up to speed on the Buick Riviera
These videos are better each time! 👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
That first 20’s is confirmed accurate as to how most guys talk about their trucks
“Cummins, CUMMINGS, cummins, CUMMINGS, Cummins”
"Dodge Didn't Do It" lmaooo, good skits guys keep it up
Great video! FYI: "Harroun" is pronounced like the word maroon, like "Haroon." Ray was my Great-Great Uncle.

@@tmr8193 yeah he has too many reasons to say so and profit off it, we need to be careful before acknowledging as such, we need actual LEGAL proof
