- How to replace rear brakes on 2012-2017 Audi A6 3.0T (C7 4G) - DIY
Tools needed:
- Ross-Tech VCDS or other software to open electric brake
- 17mm socket - to remove wheel
- 18mm socket - to remove brake cylinder
- 13mm socket and 16 mm wrench - to remove brake pad carrier
- T-27 Torx - screw that holds rotor
- Hammer/crowbar/puller/wd-40 - to get the rotor off
PROTIP: If you take the clips off of the brake pad bracket, you can take the rotor off without having to remove the bracket. Saves a bit of time!
Dude NEVER work on a car supported by a jack!!!!!!!! Use jack stands. I have seen way too many jack fail.
Nice videos man! You save all of us a lot of money learning us how to do a lot of this stuff myself. Also I think I’m more thorough than an ordinary mechanic because it’s my own car..👍🏼👍🏼
Until now I have put on lowering springs, changed all wheel bearings, all rotors and brake pads and the cabin filter. I use OBD11.
Another great video. Appreciate the fast forward editing from the front brake video. Clearly the hardest part is removing the old rotor! Thanks again!
you should list all tools and all bolts torque, remove the music, your video should be much better
You didn't show anyone how to reset the caliper thanks anyway
Thanks brother..going to try now
Great video! Do you have a battery replacement with coding video?
Unfortunately I do not
What kind of vcsd u used?
HEX-V2 Enthusiast - store.ross-tech.com/shop/vchv2_ent/
hey, thanks for the video I really appreciate it. I went to Ross tech and purchased the cord and downloaded the software. it was able to get a reading of everything on the car, but when I went to connect to the parking brake it would not connect. It kept trying three times and then failing. It did that over and over. Any idea what that could be?
Your videos are excellent!!!!! But I have 1 question do you have to use the VCDS system on the front brakes when your about to change them? Or is it only the rear brakes you have to use the VCDS system?
Only rear, to open electronic brake. I have video on how to change front brakes too.
@@FelekPL okay thanks alot I do appreciate it, keep doing your thing in making great videos.
345mm or 356mm rotors?
Rear is all one size
Felek what's the size for rear and what's the size for front ?
@@jlent103 Front is 345 or 356 depending on the engine/model version and rear is 330
Which brake brand you preferred?
@@jlent103 call Audi dealer, give them your VIN and they will give you the part number, then you can go to parts. audi. com and it will give you the specs. hope that helps. I am just figuring these things out too to save myself thousands in labor.
How to prevent rotors from rusting
Drive your car. The rotors turning between the pads keeps them clear of rust.

Question, do you have to have that software to replace the pads? just curious. i removed the pads already, took the top off with the 13 mm bolts to get to the pads. just have a real hard time removing the caliper to replace the rotors. there is literally no room for my tools. any ideas? I already did the front ones, thanks to your video. just surprised how you took the two 18mm bolts off, I have been trying for over an hour! just wont come loose!
You need some extension (pipe that slides on wrench) to remove those. It was hard for me as well, could not do it without pipe. You will need some software to expand calipers.new ones are thicker and so are the rotors.
@@tomfelczynski689 I watched a video where a technician uses just a simple flat head screw driver before dismantling the caliper head, simply pushing the pistons inside with the old brakes still on. i will get an extension pipe, thank you sir for the recommendation. three hours into it, bought a few tools, still couldnt get it off.
@@tomfelczynski689 I used a C clamp simply for the front caliper pistons with the old brake still on to not damage the new ones, and worked like a champ.
Yes, but rear brake is electric. I don't think you can just press it in. On BMW for example you can do it without computer but you rotate ebrake center part to compress it. From what I've heard you do need a computer for rear brakes on audi soi that's what I did. For the bolts you can get long driver (2 ft) or piece of pipe
so how much was that vcds software? if you don't mind me asking?
