Couple of years ago I drove from Northampton to the Matra museum just to see the Espace because it was so iconic. I basically planned a whole road 10 day road trip around that one exhibit.
The whole museum was brilliant. I was expecting to look at the F1 and be bored by the rest of the place but it’s a proper little gem. Loads of history and it’s obviously maintained by genuine enthusiasts, not just someone looking to make a quick buck.

To answer your question regarding the wheels, the answer is: those are exactly as they always were. That's because there were two Espace F1, the one with the wheel dishes, orange lights on the rear spoiler and partial blanking of the front air intake was a static model, the one featured on the video is the fully-functional one...which always wore those Ronal centre-lock wheels.

It's such a shame it doesn't move, I think as long as the engine is put in a glass case to be displayed next to it then an engine swap is fine. Over the years I'd vaguely heard of the Matra museum in the city but not much more, especially since I don't really know anyone around me who's into cars.
Then I looked it up to be sure this was it and... now I'm absolutely dumbfounded that I've been living 20 miles away from it (literally drove there yesterday), AND I must've passed in front of it 20 times learning how to drive in the school that's 200m away... thanks Drivetribe ! :D

Thx for this well done video👍 Love this car, would be great to see it running again. Hopefully one day Renault will realize, how important it is to an brand, keeping their icons alive, like Mercedes does for example with the C111

That's the holy Grail, right there - the coolest thing on wheels. I can not begin to describe how utterly jealous I am of Mike getting to climb all over the thing... damn! On a side note; let's be honest - those 90s (and earlier - first car-game I played was Out-Run back in 1986) computer games really sucked. It wasn't until the early 2000s that games were any good really, with smooth driving dynamics and cars that did not look like lego-brick-builds. No nostaliga in the world can hide that fact. Also - I can not believe the Espace F1 will be 30 years old next year - how the hell did that happen...

What an absolutely epic brick this thing is, been an icon car for me since I first saw and heard it, there's just something about a vehicle that big and chunky making those noises and being that ridiculously fast that I can't explain, it's so stupid but at the same time so awesome hahaha

Look at the lovely blue Matra Le Mans cars which won 3 times in 1972-4. There is of course also the Ford Supervan, powered by a GT40 back end, from 1971. That was followed by two more in the following decades.
