- The car was making jet sounding or whining noise at the higher speeds and wheel bearing needed to be replaced. This is a DIY on how to that on Audi A6 C7.
Great vid I like how it’s bright and sunny in the beginning and then the added lighting at the end ... as the old saying goes ...if you want something done then do it yourself... prolly take me 3.5 hrs which I’m fine with
Thanks to your video! Helped me a lot replacing one on an A4 B8.
@ 8:22 Once you take that screw out, you can put a longer one in and push the rotor off (I believe). This is how they do it on a Camry anyway.
Hi Felek, first of all I'd like to say thank you for uploading these videos as it has really helped. I was wondering, are the rear hubs and bearings the same?
I haven't touched the rear ones so to be honest I do not know If they are the same. My wild guess would be no.
Just did rear bearings. Had to remove whole thing with the hub and the spring. Axle and control arm pieces don't allow to unscrew the hub bolts.
@@andreystrusevich2477 Do they use the same part numbers both front and back (the same bearing kit)?
Great vid! How long did it take you to replace the one wheel bearing?
It really depends on the tools you have and on if the parts are stuck (rotors stuck on hub etc). I would say 1.5-2 hrs
Where did you purchase the kit I can't find one ... Is your oem or a third party
I'm buying one now from ECS tuning dot com lol it mine just went out and the shop wants to charge me 500 to fix it there's one on there for $120
@@JosiahDaMessiah I don't think that part from ECS comes with the prepressed bearing and hub together. They only sell one or the other from what I can see.
@@w8s484 ill link one that has a pressed bearing
@@JosiahDaMessiah i didnt see your link. difficult to find the assembly hub and bearing.
Hey nice video. I will be doing this when I get home next week as I have the same problem. Did you find any torque settings for installing it?
I did not, plus there is no way I would be able to squeeze torque wrench in there anyways.
Hey Felek, Did you buy the assemblies on ebay? I cannot find anywhere reputable to buy the whole assembly, and I don't want to deal with pressing them in. Did you have any issues with quality and have they lasted? I'm also in CO and have a C7 A6, pretty heavily modified if you ever need someone to bounce ideas off of.
Hey Kyle, I was also questioning the quality when buying as the part wasn't branded but I didn't want to deal with pressing in either. It's been good so far....40k miles or so. I was thinking about doing more mods but then I don't drive the car much any more because I work from home so not sure when and if I'll do anything. I may just keep it as is and buy newer Audi when I'm ready. What have you done to yours?
Wait your hub cam off no problem,no banging, fire used nothing??
Great video! Did you not have to remove the axle and axle bolts ?
No, didn't have to remove the axle
Any special tool needed for the lower control arm bolt seems to be the tough one ?
What did u use to take the nut off that’s blocking bottom screw??
Where did u buy ur hub bearing?
Ebay. Someone asked that before, link s should be in comments
Great video thanks!
Can you tell me where did you purchase the bear and hub assembly? thank you
Few other people already asked about it, should be in the comments below
Can the beating and hub be different brand??
What would the labour cost be
was the axle bolt in the kit you bought a different size than the one installed on your car?
It's been a while since I did that but i believe it was the same.
good Audi DIY videos
thanks, more to come
You must live in a place where there is no salt on the road. No rust. The rear is a little trickier.
Colorado, it's super dry and sunny here. I will be doing rear soon and will record video
This is a nice vid (I've done this several times) ; why did you leave out of the vid removing the Axle bolt ????????? I do agree with your philosophy regarding the Dealer ; they can be a real joke.
Not sure why, may be editing issue. After all it is pain in the xxx to record this stuff and to edit it afterwords is not fun either. I realize the way I do things sometimes are not professionally approved, but I am not a mechanic, just like working on the cars and if I can save myself and other people few $... why not.
Have some corrosion that's on the inside of spindle used a wire brush still some there. Could this be part of the issue? Think I'm going to put the bearing in. Wondering if I'm going to need to replace the spindle because of the corrosion on the inside where the bearing seats in. Would rather fix it now then put in a bearing that I could damage
There is always some corrosion there. Unless it's very very bad, I would not worry about it
@@FelekPL the bearing isn't snugging under manual installation. So I didn't want to hammer it in and distort the hub. Was thinking the corrosion is what's keeping it from seating properly. I can get the bolts started I thought about trying to force it on from the pressure of tightening the bolts is that ok?
Or put it in the freezer for an hour and let it shrink a bit and it will fit.
Good info, thank you.
Great work .. Use loctite next time for the bolts and nuts
Did you re use the axle bolt or is a new one needed? I see the bearing and hub assembly on eBay but doesn’t come with any bolts. What did you use?
+Jeff kloptowsky I reused all the bolts, they looked good
Felek ok thanks.
How has the ebay wheel hub and bearing held up? Are they good quality? Did the noise ever go away?
About 20k miles on it right now, all good. Yes, noise went away right after replacement.
Hi Felek I need your assistance, I can't find the part number for the wheel bearing hub assembly I looked through all the comments but couldn't find it.
I don't think there is a part number for the whole assembly, as it consists of multiple parts,, just search by name on Ebay. There were some links in comments
Not sure why the abs sensor was removed also ball joint nut no reason to remove it . Undercarriage very clean
Budd Hudd ball joint nut is in the way of one of the M12 triple square bolts. I have been trying to do this all day but I can’t get the triple square on that bolt with the ball joint nut on. I can’t get the ball joint nut off either. Super frustrating
Man, this is not very different from the A7 too.
Nice video's Felek !
Foxxer don't they have the same suspension? it should be close or the same
They are both C7s and mechanically, essentially the same car. There are very few changes aside from the overall look. A7s can have an air suspension as well though and the larger fenders mean you can stuff a slightly larger wheel and tire under the front corners. This procedure would be identical as would most normal maintenance items, (brakes, oil, filters, mounts, etc.).
How much did you pay for the bearing that you used? There is a wide variety of prices on eBay.
$105.99, but that was in July 2016
Where do you buy the hub n bearing already Asambeled
eBay. Check the comments for links
how did you know it was the bearing that needs to be replaced?
I did not. The car was making jet sounding noise and it sounded like it was coming fromt the wheel, so it was logical to start with that. Google reaserch helped too.
Think I've stripped the top left triple box 12mm bolt🤬 any suggestions
Maybe drill in it and use screw extractor and then put new one in
@@FelekPL thanks I got it out with some determination. I had started to drill it out but was worried about angle so I hammered the bit in and gave it another shot and it came out. Turned the wheel to get that bottom bolt free. Now I'm dealing with a seized on bearing I believe. Appreciate the vid and all the help have a great night.
omg, you wanted to take down the brake disc without any screw removal ? :D , gives a bit logic that something holds the disc right? :D
Guilty as charged. Thought it was just stuck as rotors usually do. Didn't even see it at first. I didn't break it though... so success;) BTW, this is the first time I see screw in the rotor.
Could you have gotten the driveshaft out and out of the way to gain access to the bolts?
Probably, but then I would have to disconnect all of the control arms
Yeah thats very difficult especially the uppers have a pinch bolt that is notorious for seizing
I've replaced all of them already so yeah, some of them are pain in the rear. The upper ones were not that bad actually.
You must not live in the rustbelt then lol
Nah, I am in CO.
Where did you purchase the part from?
Cant find the kid already assemble
Ebay....one of these...www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2057872.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XFRONT+WHEEL+HUB+BEARING+ASSEMBLY+FOR+2012-2014+AUDI+A6+A6+QUATTRO+1+SIDE+NEW.TRS2&_nkw=FRONT+WHEEL+HUB+BEARING+ASSEMBLY+FOR+2012-2014+AUDI+A6+A6+QUATTRO+1+SIDE+NEW&_sacat=0
@@FelekPL hi firstly thanks for making these videos they helped me do my brakes and rotors. How is the eBay hub assembly holding up? I think I have to replace mine as well because I can hear noise, Would you recommend it? Thanks.
@@ae8686 It's been 30k miles and it's good. Someone else here got it on Ebay and posted in comments that so far no issues.
@@FelekPL thank you for the prompt reply. Just gave me the extra bit of confidence to order those. Thanks again!
All this was pretty easy..but my hub was so seized up I couldn't remove it even tho all bolts were removed. I even hammered in it but it wouldn't move. Kinda annoying.
You got it out? You can try hot/ cold method... cold to shrink the hub, hot to expand spindle. Ice, canned air or something else and fire/small torch...idk. or some kind of puller. Or combo of all above.
Felek I gave up yesterday but I will have to try that the next time I try. Thank you very much for putting up videos like this by the way, they're so awesome and helps a lot of us non professional dudes to save lots of money!
I am not a professional mechanic myself. I know my ways around the cars mostly because I like you refuse to pay tons of $ for something that can be done in the garage. So I learn through experience. That being said the way I do things may not be mechanic approved or fully correct but It gets me desired result and if I can share the process and help others, why not do so. I' ve also heard and seen the way professional mechanics at dealers work and trust me, sometimes that's far from being correct way of doing things.
You need to use a air hammer with a chisel bit to get the bearing flange off: The spindle is aluminum so you must take your time and aim toward the flange and slowly work your way around the flange..... it WILL pop loose and as the flange backs away from the spindle, you will be able to gain leverage to work it out.
Do you recall what the torque spec for the axle nut is?
No, I don't have that spec.
on another video it was 148 foot pound plus 90 degrees
200Nm + 180°, so pretty tight...
@@ChrisR14 thanks!! This was helpful 😂
Do you know know if this will work with a 2015 3.0tfsi?
Yes, it's all the same
@@FelekPL works great. i have about 3k miles on the new bearing. The bearing assembly bolts are torque- plus so they need to be replaced. 75ishN-M plus 90 degrees...
Can you provide a list of tools need for this job. Thanks...
Oh man, I don't really remember now. If you watch the vid I think I say which tools I use. I will try to list the tools up front in my future videos.
Thanks brother
Anyone knows where I can pick up the wheel bearing with hub assembly? Thanks
I got mine at auto zone or online you can get one
Rock auto too
