    If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Kouras. I started cutting my own hair when I was 13, back in 2008. This was during the Windows 99 era-dial-up internet, when UA-cam was a dating site, and the global economy got slapped. Hard. Because of it, my mom lost her job for nearly three years, and during that time, my dad had to support her, me, and my two brothers all on his own.
    I started cutting my hair as a way to help my family save money because I was tired of hearing my parents argue about finances and wanted to do something to make things easier for them. After getting a few bad haircuts at Supercuts, I knew this was the best way I could help.
    With that being said, this channel does not do my past any justice. I wish I could have recorded my first handful of self-haircuts so you could see just how garbage they were. I got made fun of a lot because of it in middle school-even by some of the moms from the kids on my soccer team! Rightfully so... They were pretty bad.
    Now, over 15 years later, I share content that teaches millions of people every month in more than 165 countries how to save time and money by mastering self-haircuts from the comfort of your own home. It’s not a hard skill to learn, but like anything in life, if you make it a priority and stay committed, you can succeed without letting the tough times make you quit.
    I had every reason to quit when I got started. No money. No mentor. No UA-cam. No clippers, only a $20 Remington beard trimmer. I was literally just a little kid who cared way more about my family's well-being than any bit of harsh criticism I could get as a result. Times have changed since 2008 and you now have an opportunity of a lifetime with my channel.
    Please know, I’m here to help you on your self-haircut journey in any way I can. Self-haircuts are fun, an awesome skill to have, and the best way to avoid ever paying for a barber again!
    The Free Self-Haircuts For Life Club is calling your name! What are you waiting for? Get started today!

    I followed this tutorial today. It was my first self haircut and it took over 2 hours. I was surprised at how good the fade came out, but I’m struggling to make the bulk on top look good. I need more practice with the thinning sheers. Thanks for making these videos!

    Thanks for making these! I've cut my hair in the past (and have been since March 2020), but only completely shaving it with no guard -- and all by touch since I didn't have a mirror setup. Today was the first time I've tried doing it with a fade (and the top was finger length already, so I didn't touch it). I can tell this is going to take some practice. I have a tri-fold mirror and I can see all around, but figuring out what direction to turn the clippers to make it go the way I want it to in the mirror has been ... challenging. But worth it in the end, turned out way better than I thought my first try would. :) Thanks for all the tips!

    Thanks a lot for your work, I watched your video few times and finally cut my own hair. It was not my first time cutting hair, I do it often on my kids hairs but so I know the basics but to do it on myself was a bit of a struggle. Luckily I have read few comments on taking my time doing this so Sunday evening I blocked two hours only for myself. The biggest challenge was operating my own hand in the two mirrors 😅 but finally I got it done. My wife said it was similar cut to the one that my barber used to cut so I could call it a success 🎉

    anyone know if there's a difference between the clipper he uses vs a clipper that uses a dial? I have a woner clipper from amazon, are those clipper better, and if so in what way?

    • @JohnEnduro
      @JohnEnduro 2 роки тому

      They are not necessarily better or worse. The one with the dial that you got has a different mechanism of closing or opening the clipper blades. The one he has in the video uses a lever that he moves up and down. It's up to you to judge how the ring has to be in order to copy the way he has it open or closed.

  • @dhaivat848

    The 0.5 guard and 1.5 guard actually cut longer than the 1 guard closed and the 2 guard closed. That's by design.

    • @Tonayez
      @Tonayez 2 роки тому

      Huh

    • @dhaivat848
      @dhaivat848 2 роки тому

      @@Tonayez the 1 guard closed cuts more hair than the 0.5 guard open. Also, the 2 guard closed, cuts more hair than the 1.5 guard open. This is true for all guard systems regardless of company. So to get rid of the hardliners better with the transition guards, you have to open up the lever slowly until the hardline is erased.

    • @jakelamotta2387

    I don't understand why you can't just have one guideline , let's say the sides on a 3 clipper, and fading down to a 2 at the bottom. I don't do the baldness on the side.

      I cut my own hair without a mirror but it's a simple 2 back and sides, 7 on top, and a 4 just to blend in the top with the sides. It's a simple cut where you can just go by feel. The sort of cuts Alex does is way too professional and time consuming for a lazy SOB like me.
