4:22 Many people don't have a part that's so perfect the way yours is! In fact, most people don't! I'm trying to give my son a fade and this kid has hair that grows in every which direction and he only has a part line on the top middle part of his head. Even then, that part line goes about half way through the center of the top of his head, then does a HARD right hand 90 degree turn! His hair also doesn't lay so perfectly flat along the surface of his head the way yours does. Because of that, I'm lightweight screwing up his hair! He's fine with it, but I'm not.
Yeah, my hair parting is at the back center of my head. The parting depends on your hairstyle. Kids ones are harder because unlike adults, kids don't blow dry their hair and style it. Usually when you often blow dry your hair to a specific direction, as time goes by the hair will naturally "remember" the parting. Otherwise... Is to cut the hair so short that all of them just stands up. 😅 That way.. You don't need a parting.
I just gave myself my first haircut in my entire life due to quarantine. YOU helped me look good!. No way it would have came out really good without you. Thank you so much!!!. I followed most of these but wish I had followed the guidelines on the head. I feel I could have lined up both sides more equal to each other. I will check out your other videos for guidance on this. Besides this the haircut came out really dope. Thanks!!!.
I’ve been gradually going shorter on my first guideline. Started off with a 1.5, then a 1, now I’m down to a 0.5 and going up to a 3.5 to the top. Looks great! Thanks Alex!
One of the best tutorials I've seen yet! And I have seen quite a few! I am getting ready to do my first cut in 48 hours, and I think I have the basics down enough to avoid any disasters. I hope.
Here for a refresher/new ideas. Been cutting my own hair for 16 years and mostly do it by feel these days in about 20 mins. This guy is ABSOLUTELY correct about the big standing mirror and the contact lenses. I wear glasses and specifically put my contacts in for cutting my hair. Good luck gents
Ive been cutting my own hair for a little over a decade but its always just been a really short cut with tapered sides because i found it easier to get everything even if i cut it short. And while i do highly recommend doing that at first until you get comfortable i wish i had started trying to style it sooner. But my hair is very wavy and even slightly curly in some areas so cutting it for a specific style is very difficult which is why i stopped getting it cut "professionally". Most "professionals" just dont know how to cut wavy or curly hair. Anyways this video and another of yours has been helpful this past year ever since i started getting more adventurous with my haircuts. If anyone is reading this who still gets their haircut "professionally" i highly recommend cutting your own hair. Its about $30 for an entry level Whal clipper (and they are perfectly fine, ive been using mine for the whole time ive been cutting my hair which is over 10 years at this point. I just replace the blades every 3-4 years and keep the clippers clean and oiled). So $30 and you never have to pay for another haircut again. For most people money is really tight these days and most places who do half decent haircuts are going to charge at least $30. So for the price of one hair cut you can cut your own hair for the rest of your life. And its YOUR HAIR so you know it better than anyone and once you get good at cutting it youll be able to cut it better than anyone else can. If your like me and you cut your hair about once ever 2 months then in about a year youll have the hang of it. And in about 3 years youll never want anyone else to cut your hair ever again and youll regret not learning to cut your own hair sooner.
Thank you for not talking down to your viewers for not being professionals. So far this is the best video I've found for basic tips on how to use my clippers that doesn't expect me to already know all the terminology and everything. I'll be cutting my partner's hair, so thankfully we won't have to worry about the mirror set-up or bad vision once the glasses come off.
Your video will help me in a few weeks time to improve. Cut my own hair yesterday and made some small mistakes, but overall sense of liberation was well worth it. No more over priced haircuts for me, EVEN when things return to normal.
Hi Alex, which is the best model hair clipper / trimmer you would recommend for a beginner, for self hair cut ? Hope this message reaches you... with all wishes, Awaiting your response,
I find it easier if i held the 2nd miror myself. I could get closer to my 1st miror and see it beter. The miror i use isnt that heavy so no problems with shaking or anything. But i do enjoy cutting my own hair, im getting better everytime so its pretty awesome. I got the same hairstyle as you but i got very straight hair, no wavey hair or curly hair. I did the back with a set of beard trimmers and added another fade so the back would look cleaner, worked like a charm. Great vid again Alex
Any tips ive been doing simple haircuts, (no fade or anything) just #1 all the way. But i also been doing myself hairline with a straight razor. But i always end up cutting myself lol any tips for a bigginer?
Great advice Alex! I've been following your videos and have been cutting my own hair for the past two years. I've been getting better but the back is still a little difficult. At least I know that if I mess up, that I didn't pay a guy to mess it up.
Bro I just started cutting my own hair but this video really helped me especially with the bad eye sight witch I have iv had to have my wig to tell me wether the guide lines are completely out because I can’t see so definitely gonna invest in some contacts
Ive been cutting my own hair, then my fathers, then my brothers for years. I always recommend they wash their hair and that it is damp, not wet. And between cuts I pop the blade off and clean/oil it. Cutting your own hair is easy once you figure out what numbers you need where, but every hairstyle is different. Ive learned not everyone can pull off one hairstyle so I absolutely hate cutting my brothers hair. My dad's is easy, I just trim him every 2-3 weeks. Great tips though! Thanks brother!
great job alex, been cutting my hair for over ten years but always struggled with blending. Any tips other than using half guard? Also, what equipment do you use? MODEL and brand, thanks!
a Solution for #10 when working on the sides and back with a buzzer, simply tip Your glasses on your head. Put the ear loop above your temple, but angle it to where you can comfortable see. Just did it, and gave myself the best fade ive ever had. professional or self lol
How much tall is your wall mirror for cutting back of the head bec I can't find proper wall mirror . I don't have some legde in bathroom where I can put it when needed for cutting hair so I would have to put it on floor
I genuinely found this video to be informative and inspiring - Now I'm going to cut my hair :O I think the one thing I took out of this was the blending of the hairline - Glad I caught this before I risked anything.....
Unfortunately I have to wet my hair with the clippers. It’s so light and fine it just won’t work. The initial part of each stroke is fine with dry hair, but the last few hairs just get pushed up. I usually do my sides from the top down. So on the first pass I cut the entire side with the longest guard I’m going to want near the part. The hair closest to the part I have to dampen at least a little in order to get them. Then as I work down with two more guards I just dampen as necessary.
I have never used a 3 way mirror so I can’t give you a yes or no response. But my mirror setup is only $7. Check out my mirror setup video to learn more!
Please do a video on turning shoulder length hair into a fade self haircut tutorial. My hairs grown too long and I want my fade back however there is no barbershops open. I would be so grateful. Thanks man, love you channel ❤️😊
Find your part line and section off your hair. Then use a #4 guard to remove all of the hair from the sides and back. Once you do this, you can start to fade using the guards I use. Thanks for watching! More great content coming real soon! 😃
Hey I have one question : can I use the trimmer in the largest position possible to cut my top part of my hair when dry (that is in the fact it is straight)
Could you please make a video on just simple Spike cut. I mean all the hair are of uniform length except the front hair (near to forehead only) little bit longer in length.
I cut my hair for the first time using you guide. Now im about to do my 3rd self hair cut I dont think ill ever go back to a barber lol. I cant cut my hair as good as you can but who know with practice maybe one day i can get close.
I cut me own hair today. I never did it before. It was very difficult and I thought I'd screw it up. I used a blunt small kitchen scissors only and a mirror. Wet hair beforehand. I didn't cut it too tight. top 3-4 cm... Sides and back about 2 cms. I managed to a shape around the ears and cut the back straight by feel. That's the key. You don't need an electric clippers. I used a razor over and back on my neck which was wet beforehand and rubbed my neck with plenty of hand sanitizer alcohol afterwards.
❤❤❤❤❤ I really want to cut my hair after being inspired by your video but I'm just a little scared. I do not know how to react and how to deal with the situation if the results are not satisfactory.
I tried cuting my hair once before but my scalp was sore after it and I don't know what I did wrong. I do know that my hair got caught on the clippers a few times so how do I avoid that?
I solved the mirror problem by attaching my old bathroom mirror to the back. Now I have a 3D mirror system as soon as I open the side panels of the new cabinet slightly. Probably the best thing you can do when you cut your own hair. But it is also very important that you put everything at the right height.
Alex: I'm not sure if I'm already in a position to cut my hair, I'll try, but I assure you, I had a lot of fun with your video. Greetings from Buenos Aires.
Thank you so much for making these videos! I cut my own hair for the second time. The first one was just the tips to see how it went. Waited a week and then cut it in half because my hair was pretty long. It went well!!! My family and friends were impressed with the cut. THANK YOU!!! x3
You are so funny!!! And very skilled!!! I have made all those mistakes in the course of 20 years cutting my own hair. Thanks for teaching me new skills🤗
Great videos : I have wavy hair like yours and cut my hair into a quiff going from long on top to shorter towards the back, when I comb the front of my hair forward you can see my scalp and a gap in my hair and doesn’t look as full , I’m going to to try growing it longer to see if it helps !!
I've been cutting my own hair for 20 years and people still don't believe me which I take as a compliment because I must have done a good enough job for them to think a professional did it 😃
Hey Alex! This video is super helpful! Found your other video and really enjoyed your personality. Thanks for making it so easy to follow and entertaining. Hope you’re well!
I decided to not wait for bravery to find me and after i watched several guys on youtube demonstrate how to cut hair including this one and remembering how the gal at the salon cut my hair I just jumped in and started to cut my mop. Due to covid my hair had got pretty long. I have very strait fine hair and the new Wahl hair cutting kit I bought didn't cut my hair as easy as the ones the guys on youtube used. I found that looking into two mirrors to cut the back was almost impossible and when I was pulling my hair up with the comb and cutting with scissors was fine one direction but I couldn't go the other direction. My first time didn't turn out to bad but I still need help with blending the back and straitening things up a little more. Not as easy as you make it look.
It will take a lot of practice but you will get it as time goes on. Also, if you are serious about learning, you can join our new self-haircut course which comes out tomorrow, July 1st! You may check out the course details on our website www.alexkouras.com. Thanks for watching! More great videos coming out soon! 😄
Yeah I don’t wanna go to the barber and I don’t care much about my hair so i tried using a #3 all around besides the top and it came out alright besides the bottom back of my neck which looked funny when the hair grew back. Im gonna try #2 and maybe even #1
I cut my hair for the first time a couple weeks ago and I had to use a handheld mirror to cut the back and sides😂now I bought a 3 way mirror so I should be set
Hey Alex, could you make self haircut with only scissors and thinning shears video? It would be much appreciated. You have a very likable personality, I liked all of your videos. Anyway, thanks for what you are doing. Keep it up.👍
Thanks for the tips! I tried to cut my hair just now, but unfortunately, I failed. However, it could have turned out a lot worse if I didn't watch your video.
Great self hair cutting video Alex! Maybe you want to do a specific video on the equipment you use. Ceramic vs Metal blades and how to keep your clippers in top condition. After learning how to self hair cut, I don't think I'll ever visit a barber again. My son also get his haircuts from me. Awesome channel Alex!
Thank you I appreciate it! I have a self-haircut project coming out soon I think you will really enjoy. Thanks for watching! More great content coming soon! 😃

Due to covid my hair had got pretty long. I have very strait fine hair and the new Wahl hair cutting kit I bought didn't cut my hair as easy as the ones the guys on youtube used. My first time didn't turn out to bad but I still need help with blending the back and straitening things up a little more. Not as easy as you make it look.
