Man you are doing it wrong, you have to start on high numbers and work down so you can blend it in , that's why all the other videos are better yours is not blended it goes from one number to the next like you went to a dentist appointment and came out with a haircut 😂😂 you said a lot of you won't have cut your own hair before , looks like that includes you 😂😂😂
@@leethomson5733 Where's your video? Oh man I'd enjoy using someone like you as a footstool. Is that something you'd be interested in? Where are you based?
You know what. I had ALL day to sit and practice this and it came out pretty decent actually. Im impressed. I really took my time. About 4 hours. It just takes time and patience. Dont rush or over do anything. Dont get overconfident. Keep replaying the same part 1000 times if you have to.
i self learned to haircut during quarantine 5months i had seen no barber decided first time for my life i had balls to cut my self hair today its been past a year and im really proud of my self. i can say proudly i haircut very professionaly and better than some barbers i been at. its been a year of journey of not giving a single fck about what ppl think and doing my journey and learning luckly i had my ex gf. dont give up be strong and live in no fear.. now im watching tutorails to maximize my knowledge xd
Awesome work man! It’s a mindset shift and the second you realize you can do it yourself it becomes a whole new ball game to excel at. Keep up the great work 💪
This weekend I’ll be cutting my own hair, I’ve completed about 5 haircuts over the last few months and each time I’m getting better and better...If I could give anyone advice I’d say don’t get frustrated, this is a skill and once you’ve mastered it it’ll boost your confidence and give you that attitude that you can learn anything...Good luck guys and don’t give up 🤛👍
Nice! A couple of suggestions if you don't mind: 1. Make your initial bald line lower around the back of your head, so you can space out your guidlines a little bit more. 2. Use #0 open, instead of #1 closed on your second guidline and then #1.5 closed on your third. Your haircut will look even better.
I attempted this before and failed. But after watching a good few times I can now say I cut my own hair from now on. And that also saves me a lot of money. Thanks Alex👊🏾 👍🏾
This is the tutorial that I use for my haircut. My wife loves it and so do I. The only thing that I would advise is that I have the half guard and 1.5 guard so I don't move the lever half way. Maybe mentioning that in your videos could help some people achieve some better results
So I did this haircut, following step by step, i adjusted the clipper sizes though as I don't like doing an almost bald fade - just short. My wife says its the best haircut ive ever gotten. Couldn't believe I did it myself. AWESOME steps. My arms got tired cutting the top though 😂
i have actually cut my own hair last two weeks and it turned out not so bad but after watching this video i am inspired to do more and sharpen my skills. thanks to you dude!
I've been cutting my hair for about 2 months now thanks to Alex's videos and I'm just cutting it regularly with no fancy techniques or whatever and now I feel much more confident in cutting my hair thanks to Alex, keep up the work my guy!
I do cut my side hair like this every 2 weeks since 6 months now. For me and my clippers, it works the best to take out my guidelines with the lever completely open for the 1 & 2 guards. Half way closed would take off too much. The very first guideline I take out with my lever first halfway closed, then 3/4 closed. You need to try different lever levels for your very own clipper but overall, this guide is genius. BIG Thumbs up!
Not sure why so many people are saying this is difficult... just follow the video lol. I've been following this method for months and have almost mastered it now. Blending in the hard lines is the trickiest but not that bad.
I used your vid for cutting my hear during the lockdown in the Netherlands but now I'm really into it and keep doing it. It's actually fun! Thanks mate! 👍🏻
I watched this video several times, made several notes, and even simulated the motions in front of a mirror before actually gaining the courage to finally turn my clippers on. After I finished cutting my hair, I ended up looking like Jean-Luc Picard! FML!
I watched this video and then gave my boyfriend a haircut. This is the first time for me doing this and it ended up really well. Thank you so much for this video, it was very helpful 🌸
Did this yesterday after getting proper clippers with a lever in the mail. I'm so proud of my cut! I had one attempt before this using cheap clippers that don't have a lever, so I did a longer fade that wasn't bald that time. This time was the first attempting to do a bald fade. Just FYI it took about 2 hours to get a result I was happy with. So make sure you have enough time especially on your first try. Helps a lot to have a self cut mirror (trifold mirror). It's mad scary at first and completely disorienting to cut hair using mirror, but if you take your time, you can do it. One thing that helps is to look away from the mirror sometimes to get your bearings, go where you think you should go with your hands without touching the clippers to your hair, and then certify by looking back in the mirror where your hands are. Hard to explain, but I think it helps train your brain on how to use the mirrors in reverse orientation.
I just tried it. Bad mirror set up, could barely see anything so I could get a proper line all the way through my head. It's also way more difficult to hold the clippers and cut the back. At the end, I just decided to shave my whole head off lmao. That may have been my first and very last attempt at cutting my own hair. You my friend make it look about 50x easier than what it is.
Thank you for the video. It was less confusing than a lot of the other ones I found. I tried it the first time today and actually didnt screw it up :D The first line was a bit problematic but at one point I started to feel really confident with the machine, even switching hands depending on which side I was working on. From there it was a lot of fun.
First time cutting my hair after watching your Quarantine Haircut Video and man what a clean fade. Watched this video to see how I can go about cutting the top. Prices for a haircut are now up in the 40s with a beard up to 50. Now only taking appointments 60-75 No tanks
I have always cut my own hair but ALWAYS struggled with the top length.... I have jacked it up recently and look forward to adopting your technique when trimming the top as I feel this will drastically change things for the better. Thanks so much for making this video!
Gotta say I just did this for the first time ever and the end result is surprisingly nice! Did couple of mistakes but managed to get it done, you just need time and patience.
Been cutting my hair on my own since that corona crap started. With no experience whatsoever i found it very useful to start from top to bottom, it leaves hair for mistakes, you can always go shorter. BUT: It definitely takes longer, since you really gotta pay attention to finding the right line.
Dude you are the man! I’ve purchased the same clippers as you. I took around 3+ hours, but my fade was a bit dark and not completely faded. I received that feedback from family. I mean it’s not that but it could’ve been worse

Loving cutting my own hair and doing a damn fine job of it and cutting other hair too all happy ! Thanks to you and all the other you tubers out there doing similar things ! Much love 💓
This is awesome tutorial and I have tried it couple of times already and the result have been decent. It is so much harder to see those guidelines because my hair color is so light, would be awesome to see same tutorial with light color hair.
Hi Alex, thank you for all your tutorials ! I'm so happy i found your channel years ago, it really made me pursue the dream of cutting my hair. But I have one question : I also cut my top hair of my sidepart with my clippers, at a length of 2,5cm. Now with my new clippers, i noticed that the sides of my top hair are shorter than the middle. Could this be because I have an oval face shape and thin hair ? What can I do about it ? Cut the sides of my top hair longer and the middle at 25mm ?
The best self hair cut I've seen. I think I'm gone wait but i am missing having a fade, but i do like my length at the moment and I'm happy to keep growing it out. Really enjoyed you video bro...
Cool man. Perfect and professional. I'll be coming back for more tips. I don't have to worry so much about the top of mine as there is very little left. Thanks for your trouble in going to the effort. Regards. Patrick from Ireland.
I learned to cut hair in the quarantine and I save 100 dollars in a month (in switzerland is a haircut 25 dollars) and im earn more then 100 dollars in a month by cuting the hairs of friends. I can recommend everyone to learn that
Is there a self haircutting world championship? There should be if there isn't, pretty sure there's competitive hairdressing/barbering already. If its sheerly for the skill involved the best of the best at cutting their own hair would be badass.
@Alex Obviously I'm not a guy, but my hubby has had me cutting he's hair for years. But I wanted to learn the skin fade technique. I want to try this at home, but pretty sure our shaver doesn't have a lever. But I'm sure blending with a comb will do just as good. But if not, any suggest please?? He's now changed the style he wants, to long hair at the top to blended hair all the way up. 😬 I did this and it worked out, buy would like to blend in a fade more. Thanks in advance. ☺️
Great video! Will you share how you're seeing the back of your head? Like what and how is your mirrors setup? I bought one of those collapsible 3 mirrors, but can't use it with how the bathrooms main mirrors are.
This might be a dumb question but I have zero experience and I want to ask if you have a video where you elaborate what it means for the clippers to be halfway open/ closed? I really don’t know and you kindly just quickly mention it in this video and another one I saw. I just ordered me a pair of clippers just like yours and I’m going to try to cut my own hair. Appreciate your response or anyone else who can help clarify this. Thanks
When I say lever closed, halfway, or open, it's referring to a slight adjustment in the length being cut off by the clippers. Going from closed to halfway to open is a gradual increase in the length of hair left on your head. Meaning, when the lever is closed, you cut off more hair than when your lever is halfway. And you cut off more hair when your lever is halfway than when the lever is open. Hope this helps!
This is the best self hair cut I've ever seen Great work. I feel like I learned a fade the best with this tutorial a d I would do some others not my own
Hi Alex. Another great video! I have natural curly hair. Before I started watching you videos I cut my own hair. I did the mistake of cutting the back, middle and front of my hair with scissors with my hair completely dry. Now my hair every time I wake up or after I wear a hat or beanie is really messy, disorganized and elevated (especially in the back) I had never had this problem before (obviously I used to go to the barber and this was the first time I cut my own hair with scissors) My questions are, do you recommend me to cut my hair again this time with my hair wet to fix this problem? Is better if I use my clippers to cut the back, middle and front of my hair to let it grow again? What tips and recommendations can you give me to cut with scissors my curly hair? Also, I would like to give you a few ideas for the next videos: 1.- You can show us how to take proper care of our haircut tools. For example, how to oil the blades of the clippers, when to do it and how often. How to take care of our trimmers. 2.- You can give us tips and suggestions of how to take care of different kind of hairs. For example, my hair is naturally curly. What kind of shampoo, conditioner and hairstyles would be the best to highlight my curls. 3.- I have some friends who also want to cut their own hair. But, they want to use the clippers to cut their back, middle and front. Evidently you cut these parts of your hair with scissors like me. You can show us with your clippers off how is the proper way to cut this parts, the technique, where to start, things to consider, etc. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions Alex. I always share your content. Keep it coming!
Wow what a reply! I am already ahead of you with answering your questions! I am creating an extensive self-haircut course and it will be available within a few weeks if that sounds interesting to you. But I agree I will make these videos in the future I appreciate your recommendations! But I would recommend you stick to only 1 guard for the sides and back. And yes definitely wet your hair if you plan on using scissors! Thanks for watching! More great content coming soon! 😄
Bought clippers for $50 and have given myself probably 10 haircuts getting better each time. Used to pay $25 every 2 weeks for a cut now cutting every week. Definitely not perfect but improving and most wouldn’t see my mistakes. The back is the hardest
this was my first video from you Alex, pretty informative and straight to the point! i just started trying to cut my own hair since all of us are in this lockdown! my only question is, did you zero gap your clippers? other than that, well done on a very nice video! Thanks for the tips!
@@AlexKouras could you do a self haircut video with clippers that dont have a lever? i got a Philips 3000 Series Hair Clipper and it doesnt have a lever... it has different guard sizes but its a lot different from what you got in this video.
Good detailed video man, i'v cut my hair 5 times already since this corona shutdown and each time i get more comfortable and a bit better. Keep up the quality vids 👌
Hello!! Can i use guard 1-2 number above you used with the same tips? For example: 2 guard at bottom, 3 guard mid and 4 guard top or 1/2/3, without zero guard. Sorry for my bad english. Thank you!
Your number 2 guard looks more like my number 4 guard. We both have Wahl. I wonder if that makes a difference? Do different year clippers/guards cut differently?
Have you tried creating the first guideline with a open clipper no guard instead of a #1 closed ? I’ve seen some tutorials do this ... just a thought 💭
Yes of course. It depends on the type of fade I want. Not all fades were created equal. There are tons of ways to do it! Thank you for watching! More great content coming soon! 😄
I would say they are my top brand. Only because it’s the only clipper brand I ever used. I know Andis and Babyliss are also the other top clipper brands aside from Wahl.
Hello Alex, i really learned a lot from your videos, thanks a lot 🙏🏼. I've a question, my hair trimmer machine degrees are (1,2,3, 5,7,9,11,...). So how could I make the fade precision in the sides ?!.

Loving cutting my own hair and doing a damn fine job of it and cutting other hair too all happy ! Thanks to you and all the other you tubers out there doing similar things ! Much love 💓
That's awesome! Thank you for watching! More great content coming soon! 😄
My hair literally came out perfect lol had the same clippers come to find out while watching the vid also. Dope video !
But I have one question :
I also cut my top hair of my sidepart with my clippers, at a length of 2,5cm.
I appreciate your comment! Thanks for watching! More great content coming soon! 😄
I can recommend everyone to learn that
the best self haircut video i have ever watched
Is there a self haircutting world championship? There should be if there isn't, pretty sure there's competitive hairdressing/barbering already. If its sheerly for the skill involved the best of the best at cutting their own hair would be badass.
That would be awesome! I should created the event!
I`m amazed by the reach you have with you right hand
Hey body it's the best tutorial of selfcut I have ever seen!
Congratulstions and thank you for upfown!
I like the before more than the after.
great stuff bro.
Followed your video and got the best self cut to date.
I actually tried this thanks to your video and i have to say i did a pretty good job. Thanks man 🙏👍🏼
Great video!
This is the best self hair cut I've ever seen
Great work. I feel like I learned a fade the best with this tutorial a d I would do some others not my own
Thanks a lot... Love from India... I am sharing this video to my whtsapp group
Hi Alex. Another great video!
I have natural curly hair.
Before I started watching you videos I cut my own hair. I did the mistake of cutting the back, middle and front of my hair with scissors with my hair completely dry. Now my hair every time I wake up or after I wear a hat or beanie is really messy, disorganized and elevated (especially in the back)
I had never had this problem before (obviously I used to go to the barber and this was the first time I cut my own hair with scissors)
My questions are, do you recommend me to cut my hair again this time with my hair wet to fix this problem?
Is better if I use my clippers to cut the back, middle and front of my hair to let it grow again?
What tips and recommendations can you give me to cut with scissors my curly hair?
Also, I would like to give you a few ideas for the next videos:
1.- You can show us how to take proper care of our haircut tools.
These are great for how to cut my sons hair. Thank you! Their fades look a lot better.
You’re very talented and you teach me a lot. Thank you.
Of course! Thank you for watching! More great content coming soon! 😄
this was my first video from you Alex, pretty informative and straight to the point! i just started trying to cut my own hair since all of us are in this lockdown! my only question is, did you zero gap your clippers? other than that, well done on a very nice video! Thanks for the tips!
No I did not zero gap my clippers! Thanks for your support! More great content coming soon! 😄
Thank you for watching! More great content coming soon! 😄
Hello!!
Can i use guard 1-2 number above you used with the same tips? For example: 2 guard at bottom, 3 guard mid and 4 guard top or 1/2/3, without zero guard. Sorry for my bad english. Thank you!
This video gave me confidence to no be afraid to start cutting my hair 👌👍👍
Awesome! You can do it my friend! Thanks for watching! More great content coming soon! 😄
Alex Kouras thanks bro
Done it today! It’s not ideal, but I will still practice :) cheers for the video!
Man that look amazing! I tried it myself and now I’m a hat guy for a few months lol
Your number 2 guard looks more like my number 4 guard. We both have Wahl. I wonder if that makes a difference? Do different year clippers/guards cut differently?
This is your best yet! I especially like the full fade. You do this so well! Thank you!
I appreciate the support! More great content coming soon! 😄
This self haircut is so satisfying to watch👌👌
You are man Alex! I needed some help on my fade and cutting the top from long to short. Thank you!
Is _Wahl_ the best brand for hair clippers?
I would say they are my top brand. Only because it’s the only clipper brand I ever used. I know Andis and Babyliss are also the other top clipper brands aside from Wahl.
Hello Alex, i really learned a lot from your videos, thanks a lot 🙏🏼.
I've a question, my hair trimmer machine degrees are (1,2,3, 5,7,9,11,...).
So how could I make the fade precision in the sides ?!.
So easy so clear. Tried it at home and it worked!! Thank you so much!!
Thanks for watching! More great videos coming out soon! 😄
Dude, awesome video! Does this technique work with afro hair too?
