What do you mean? Mario isn't in Smash Brothers yet. I had to look them up to even realize who they are since how obscure he is and even then, how could you make a moveset out of him? What would he do, use a fire ball?
@Antoine Gédéon correction, 1/2 of his moves are spindashes. I would honour just be happy if they gave him both the boost and the spindash for his side b, have him boost just by tapping the button, have him only do it for a brief moment and has a small gauge beside his icon
I still can’t believe Smash didn’t have solo Grass type Pokémon fighter in prior games since Greninja has been a good addition and Incineror is basically the Fire type replacement for Charizard since Pokémon Trainer made its return. Still holding out for DLC grass type fighter.
Same I actually really wanted Decidueye or Rowlet or maybe the Treecko-Grovyle-Sceptile or Chikorita-Bayleaf-Meganium lines (personally, Decidueye and Grovyle are my favorites) .
I’d rather a grass type pokemon be a newcomer in the next game, it would be quite dissapointing to have a Pokemon take up a spot in the fighters pass that could have went to a 3rd party.
Knowing Nintendo, if a Gen 8 Pokemon does end up getting in the Fighter Pass, they'll probably end up going with Cinderace seeing how much they favor Fire Starters (plus, Cinderace is probably the most popular Galar Starter at the moment).
@@cesarflamenco9484 i believe sobble is actually. But then again, i doubt popularity plays a role. Inciniroar was not the most popular. Diciduleye (Or however you spell it) was.
Me too, like ... For real? Cool, badass character that can have an unique moveset or at least be easy to make and is literally the ULTIMATE life form? It should join the ULTIMATE Game
Think about this from a long term marketing point. If they add all the highly requested fighters, then their would be way less demand in the next smash.

And He’s incredibly popular in Latin America I’m pretty sure. Just cause we didn’t know him doesn’t mean he has no place or should be swapped in with another character.
Yeah, Legend of Zelda always had the short end in terms of representation. Problem is a lot of characters in the series end up becoming one offs that only appear in one game (except spin offs), so they don't have much to go off. Probably that's why a lot of them ended up becoming Assist Trophies instead. Sucks cuz because if Hyrule Warriors showed us one thing, it's that moveset are perfectly possible for a lot of these characters.
@@percy3422 Probably because most of them are protagonists, with the exception of maybe Lucina. LOZ one offs tend to be minor characters for the most part, so Nintendo probably doesn't feel the need to bring them back as much unfortunately.
Honestly, the most surprising omission for me was Spring Man. I thought for *sure* that he would be revealed along Ken during that trailer, but it didn't happen. Well at least we got Min Min now
He's an Assist Trophy. Assist trophies are basically characters who are deconfirmed for the game they are assist trophies in. Sakurai is probably also going to leave Waluigi as an assist trophy forever since he hates Waluigi.
@@jjenks6509 it's not that's he's interesting, it's because he's the 4th main character in the Kirby games. I honestly only want him in so we can have more than 3 Kirby characters in Smash, but even then I'd prefer Dark Matter.
I really had hoped for the longest while that Sega could manage to get another Sonic character into the game. Each one has so much potential to get in, but in all honesty, Shadow still sits on the top of my list, regardless if he's an assist trophy already. It doesn't mean a character doesn't have a chance, although the possibility may seem pretty slim now. While it may not be Shadow or Knuckles, my top 2 wanted Sonic characters in Smash, I still have hopes that Sonic can at least get someone else into the roster with him before it all comes to an end.
@@chadpeterson5698 I totally get that, and I don’t want him in Smash either; but when you step back from everything in the fandom and just look at it as it is, it’s weird that pretty much every main Mario character (and then some) has been playable in Smash

Eggman attacks in the egg viper l Splash screen Gameplay ending with him almost winning but just barely lousing NO WAY!? I CANT BELEVE THIS!!! And that’s just the sonic adventure version don’t get me started on sonic colors or other games
I've said this a lot and frankly: Dixie would NOT make sense to be a full on clone of Diddy see in my opinion: at best she would be a semi-clone of Diddy edit: also I still keep forgetting that Yo-Kai Watch exists
I feel Dixie being an echo could still work, but it does sacrifice potential creativity for her move set and some moves would just look weird to see her doing. She wouldn't be using her hair to fight, she'd have to either borrow Donkey Kong's Up B (like Chrom) or have a new Up B, and I feel Diddy Kong's Down B and Side B don't fit Dixie's personality even though it still makes sense for her to use it. Other echoes also had potential for more unique move sets (Daisy, Dark Pit, Dark Samus, etc) but were just made near full on clones, I could see Dixie Kong getting that fate sadly despie her potential. Best situation would be that she only shares one or two moves with Diddy Kong; I can see the Neutral B still working great for Dixie, for example, they'd just need to replace the peanuts with bubblegum since she has a gun that shoots bubblegum in Tropical Freeze.
I'm pretty surprised there has been nothing new on the Sonic front minus some new tracks. No moveset overhaul, no new stages, new voicelines, and no new characters. Hopefully Dr Eggman can show up as DLC
@@angry998 ayy same to you haha. I'd love to have Tails but all I can see is more Spindashing. Eggman would be super unique, lots of fun, and plus more baddies in Smash is always a plus
Metal Gear is in the same boat but with no music from the most recent games. Everything else you said checks out like no new stage and no new character. They didn’t even give us spirits for the new characters that appeared in the latest main entry. There is so much wasted potential, hopefully we get Venom Snake who is the most relevant protagonist and is also an antagonist as a fighter. We haven’t had a Konami character as dlc yet so there may still be a chance.
@@donkeykongisytpooping3002 honestly. I'm really surprised we didn't even get the theme for MGS V. I mean hey at least those two franchises got stuff. Cloud is still looking dry as hell, no new music, no new stage, and last time I checked he had one spirit, and that was of him. Maybe Nintendo doesn't want to go all in, maybe Square is being strict, but the Final Fantasy franchise deserves way better. I don't even play the games and I know that much
@@RiainRamblez Yeah poor final fantasy has been represented so poorly. The game actually refers to final fantasy as final fantasy VII. We have dozens of final fantasy games so it’s not like it revolves around one single protagonist, there are so many protagonists so there’s plenty of potential.
Wasn’t there an interview where Sakurai stated that he went to capcom to ask about a monster hunter rep. But Capcom said that a monster would better represent the series since the hunter is a generic avatar that changes from game to game. I’m not a hundred percent sure though.
I was surprised, in Brawl, that Vaati was not in Smash, since he appears in 3 recent (for Brawl days) games, making him the second villain after Ganon (equally to Ganondorf with 3 representations)
I might be going against the grain here but I’d rather have Shadow as his own fighter in Smash rather than an Echo Fighter for Sonic. I see so many people say Shadow should be an Echo Fighter for Sonic but I don’t think it’d work. In a lot of the games, Shadow uses a variety of long range weapons, as well, he has unique abilities Sonic does not such as Chaos Control and Chaos Spear In my mind, Shadow could work as maybe a pseudo clone for Sonic, with Chaos Control working similar to Bayonetta’s Witch Time.
Look up these two mods of him that showcase unique abilities. Share these with anyone who doesn’t think he should be unique. Smash flash mod by znx Smash legacy
Shadow also plays like sonic in alot of games, and he'd be more likely to be in smash if he was an echo. Plus even tho shadow is my favorite sonic character, if Smash was able to add a sonic character with a unique moveset, I'd want that development time and man power to be used on Eggman. I love shadow, but Eggman better represents the series, sense Eggman is the main villain.
@@ditto7047 sonic adventure 2, sonic heros, sonic forces. Yes shadow does have unique moves, but he'd easily work as a sonic echo as well. I'm not disagreeing with you, I simply wanna say He'd work as a unique fighter or an echo. But him being a echo would just raise his chances of getting in, Well at least before he was disconfirmed.
I haven't seen anyone say this yet, but Yo-Kai Watch isn't Nintendo exclusive (not anymore, at least). Yo-Kai Watch 4 initially released on PS4 in Japan.
Sakurai does have the habit on going against his own words years after. In this case how he didn't want to have too many conventional fighters in the roster. Sakurai has stated that he did considered Decidueye, but Sakurai picked Incineroar instead as he was interested in a Wrestler Playstyle that was yet seen in Smash Bros.
The omission of Monster Hunter doesn't surprise me at all. In fact, I would actually be more surprised if a hunter got in as playable. If I recall correctly, the creator of Monster Hunter himself said that he didn't want a hunter being playable. That he considers the monsters themselves as the actual stars of the series. So I'm pretty sure that we don't have Hunter in simply because the creator doesn't want to include one.
@@TheGamersState They don’t but if you look at a game like Metal Gear Survive which was made by Konami but without the creator’s permission or involvement which hurt the game, the game was one of the worst games of 2018 and played like a generic zombie game instead of a Metal Gear game that’s about stealth. It’s usually best to get the series creator involved to make sure the game is good and fits their vision.
@@donkeykongisytpooping3002 Err...I see what you mean but Marvel vs Capcom is a fighting game while Monster Hunter is a open-world action game. It wouldn't really benefit getting the creator of Monster Hunter to direct Marvel vs Capcom Infinite because it's a totally different genre. On top of that; The Monster Hunter wasn't even a prominent character in the game, she showed up briefly in the story and wasn't even playable until the DLC released.
Lets not forget a Shin Megami Tensei character. For some reason despite Joker being added we got no SMT content or references, not even Jack Frost who is Atlus' mascot. Also both SMT and Persona are considered separate.
Always thought it was weird that there was a total lack of Shin Megami Tensei main series content. I don't feel a character is happening but its pretty weird for everything in Smash to be from the sister series instead of the original, especially since SMT mostly stayed on Nintendo consoles whereas Persona is mostly Sony exclusive.
I still think SMT has a chance of getting in, be it in mii costume form, a spirit event or even a character (SMT 5 protagonist most likely). Say what you want but MegaTen is one of the 3 pillars of jrpgs and Japan has it on high regard. Smash not even adding a Jack Frost reference at Joker's presentation feels like they are saving him up for a bigger announcement tbh.
I completely agree with you. Alph not being an echo fighter is really strange. It's difficult for Pikmin to have more characters but an echo would be a perfect way to represent more the series, as Alph could get Rock and Winged Pikmin and Olimar woud have his old recovery or the jet pack from Hey Pikmin. But i don't know, Alph doesn't even has his own amiibo and his render is exactly the same as Olimar's. Even Koopalings, gender and clothing alts have their own pose! I feel that they simply added Alph because he already was in SSB4, otherwise they wouldn't even care.
For the last time, dixie kong would make a horrible echo fighter in smash we don't need another Ganondorf situation. She should be a unique fighter if she is ever included.
Geno isn't surprising to not be playable... I mean, if Square Exnix, his owners, do not want a decent rapresentation of their own flagship franchise, Final Fantasy, why would they accept to bring in an obscure character like him?

Knuckles would most definitely have an opportunity as a fighter. They already have different sets of attacks for him as an assist trophy, so his potential had already been shown right there. One character I was honestly shocked about not getting in was Krystal, actually. Mostly because Sakurai seemed to want Krystal before, same case for Geno but I would be able to understand that more based on Square Enix copyright issues, but Krystal is Nintendo.
zelda is well representated with stages, because thats were zelda shines, on it's locations, every time the characters are link zelda and ganon with few more support character each time
Either you don't know what you're talking about or you're being sarcastic since NO support characters in the Zelda series are added, the stages are decent but I would have liked it if Ganondorf's Castle was a playable stage, speaking of Ganondorf he is still a clone, and most of the Zelda characters in the roster are redesigns of Link.
Wait for the next game maybe he'll get in then unless he's an assist trophy there to. Since assist trophies are basically a fancy way of saying that character won't be playable in the games where he's an assist trophy.
I'm surprised Waluigi isn't a fighter yet. Wario was announced for Brawl in 2006, then they've added Diddy Kong, Rosalina & Luma, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings, brought back Dr. Mario, Daisy, and even King K. Rool and Piranha Plant. The only main Mario characters left who aren't fighters are Waluigi and Toad, and Toad is in Peach's moveset. He's playable in over 50 Mario games and would be a great rep for the spin-off games, and he's one of the most popular Mario characters and requests for Smash.
It would be interesting to include 10 or even 20 characters from different franchise you would like to see in a next Super Smash Bros game after Ultimate
I’m doubtful that we’ll get both Geno and Waluigi since they would be the third and fourth Mario character to join the roster in ultimate. I’ll be happy to get either one of them if the other gets a well designed Mii Costume! (Waluigi deserves a better costume than just a hat)
I disagree with a few of the guys on this list. A lot of them aren’t actually “surprising” that they aren’t in smash. Is anyone actually surprised Geno isn’t in the game?
I am. SMRPG needs a revival, especially with Paper Mario officially abandoning the traditional RPG genre for good and the Mario & Luigi series canceled.
@@SarajevoKyoto Yeah but every character in Smash was added for one of three reasons. Either the game or character was relevant at the time they were added, important to gaming history, or would have an interesting moveset. Geno has none of those.
@@nathannuthak1349 Geno was introduced in the first ever Mario RPG, a direct ancestor to Paper Mario (per interviews) and an indirect ancestor to the Mario & Luigi series. Relevancy has absolutely nothing to do with anything, as ROB, Mr Game & Watch, Ice Climbers, K Rool, and others can attest to. As for his moveset, imagine a cross between Mega Man and Zelda, and throw in SMRPG's timing mechanics to give his attacks temporal "sweet" and "sour" spots instead of physical ones. And there you have it.
@@SarajevoKyoto I did not mean that every character has to be relevant. I meant that every character in the game has at least one of the attributes I mentioned. The characters you listed are either important to gaming history or have unique movesets. The moveset you described for Geno was based off of two characters that are already in the game, meaning that it would not be unique. Also, your claim that Geno was important to gaming history is just not true. Yes, Mario RPG did influence other Mario spinoffs, but in the grand scheme of things, does that really have an impact? Mario RPG will most likely never get a sequel, the Mario and Luigi series is dead, and Paper Mario is no longer an RPG. Does it sound like Super Mario RPG is important to gaming history at all? There just really isn’t a reason for an insignificant, irrelevant, and generic character like Geno to be in Smash.
I wouldn’t call it surprising at all that Geno isn’t playable. He’s owned by Square Enix, a company that’s a lot less easy to work with than the rest of them and they’re not going to see Geno as worth it over characters from their own franchises. They’re not going to give Nintendo Geno when they have the least to gain out of doing so
Dude the shitty puppet IS in Smash already, he appears as a spirit, so don't blame SquareEnix. Literally Nintendo and Sakurai know that Geno is a shit pick for Smash and nobody except his obnoxious "fans" would recognize.
It's more that his only main appearance is as a partner 24 years ago. He's not that popular of a character besides the people requesting him for Smash.
Although I am a Geno supporter, I feel Geno has way more hurdles to jump over than people tend to give him credit for. Both Nintendo and Square Enix care very little about him, Sakurai could have lost interest in Geno over time (and I don't think Sakurai wanting someone matters all that much for DLC but I could be wrong about that), he's an extremely irrelevant character when it comes to what games he appears in the flesh in. All he has going for him is fan demand and continuing to narrowly escape death by Mii costume, which doesn't mean too much since the costume could just be coming later with the next Square Enix character. After all, we are still waiting on the Chocobo Mii to come back as well. Sure, Nintendo ended up choosing Banjo & Kazooie over more profitable Microsoft IPs pretty much only because of the explosive fan demand, but Microsoft clearly ended up being in for the long haul and got Minecraft - perhaps their most popular and profitable IP out of their whole catalogue - in Smash. I'm not so sure we'll get a reverse Banjo - Steve situation since Square Enix seems to only be interested in including their biggest characters so far (and, judging by Hero's inclusion, having them tie in nicely with tons of advertising for games from their series).
@@bobjeezorham7658 But Banjo (unlike the ugly puppet) is more iconic than you can imagine, despite his series being dead he's a well remembered retro character. I doubt we will get another SquareEnix rep, but if so, i hope it's Lara Croft.
@@bobjeezorham7658 Finally someone who sees things the way I do. While I don’t have anything against Geno, I do think that the only way Geno is getting in is if there’s a promotion involved, like say they bring Super Mario RPG to the Switch as part of the Mario anniversary that would make way more sense to me then just because of ‘fan demand’ alone. For the same reasons you had said yourself. Couldn’t put it into words better than what you said. Square-Enix is a business after all, they’re going to do what’s best for their company and they’re usually the kind that tends to look after their big fishes than the little ones. I’m half-expecting if there is even another SE rep at all, it’s going to be something to do with Nier or Bravely default II, as both games are scheduled to be released on their to do list, which means it’s likely they’ll use a character from either of those games to boost sales via promotion. (I think Bravely Default has an edge since we don’t know if Nier Replicant is coming for the switch yet but I think there’s still a chance. It’s Square, they like money as much as they like pretty graphics. =p Okay, that pretty graphics part is kinda hitting below the belt but it’s true. XD If you’re lucky, Geno will probably be upgraded a deluxe Mii costume but I can’t see it going any further than that. Not when SE has more franchises that they could promote and still have games coming out under their franchise’s brand. Also I think SE are looking at the bigger picture as well, as far as we know, most of the people that are asking for Geno are usually just in the Smash fandom and while that’s nothing to sneeze at, Square probably thinks it’s not worth using up their slot just to satisfy those people in their eyes. And as they own Geno, they have the final say on any deal, if SE says no to Geno, then that’s that, not even Nintendo can do anything about that if SE vetos the idea. Heck, there might not even be another SE rep at all, after all Sakurai has said that Square were rather difficult to work with. And I’d believe him, considering how stingy SE can be.
My thoughts 3: someone lower on the Wishlist like Agumon or Master Chief. 2: Crash, Sora, Rayman, someone high on the list. 1: Rex I have a strong feeling Rex will be the last fighter in smash ultimate.
lemme tell you right here and now, it is *NOT*, like, absolutely 0%, surprising that Geno didnt make it in the character only appeared in one game, only had a cameo in one game, said cameo was taken out in the remake of that game, and wasnt even a main character in the one game that he appeared in if anything, it would be surprising if he did get in (which he absolutely wont lol) the most he will get is a mii costume... like.... 100% sure about that
That’s a tad harsh. ^^; But I have to agree unless there’s some sort of promotion involved with SMRPG SE won’t even humour the idea and since they still holds the rights to Geno, that kinda pretty much seals his fate since SE never does anything for free, charity or not without something in return at least, not to mention they’re the stingiest company out of all the ones Sakurai worked with. They couldn’t even give us any FF spirits which I find absolutely disgraceful. They couldn’t even give us Chocobo or Moogle? Not even the Summons? -.- For shame SE. I think he’ll be upgraded to a deluxe Mii costume at the very least, as like a sort of way of appeasing people although I imagine it’ll never be enough. Dunno who SE would pick instead but they’re the kind of company who would promote a character if it benefits them most, which in this case would either be Nier from the upcoming Nier Replicant (if that’s coming to the switch I dunno) or Bravely Default 2 which is rumoured to have a release date announced soon. It sounds cruel and I feel really bad but I honestly think SE would choose a franchise where they have a chance to get boosted sales from any of their upcoming games. They’ve already done it with DQ (though if you ask me that series was long overdue a place in Smash anyway due to their legacy and historic mark on gaming history.) But even I could see it was a well-timed promotion to not only increase awareness of DQ but boost sales of DQ 11 S at the same time. But anyway I digress, lol, I don’t have anything against Geno but knowing SE as long as I have, I just don’t see them allowing it. Most Geno fans I’ve seen always seem to forget that it’s SE who gets the final say on the matter, no matter how much Nintendo begs or asks if SE say no, then it’s a no. According to this video SE technically rejected it twice now, I don’t think they’re gonna change their minds unless a miracle happens. Such is the woes of one who’s rights are in the hands of a completely different company.
@@CruxisAngel7 i dont hate Geno as a character btw, i just dont think he'd be a great addition, given there are way more characters deserving of a spot

But I do think we’ll see another SE rep before Geno gets considered in SE’s eyes. Not unless some miracle happens. Heck, we might not even get another SE rep, that’s another possibility to consider but we’ll just see how the last four spots pan out. ^^ Either way, someone’s gonna be happy and others are going to probably rage rant on Twitter to Nintendo and Sakurai’s page...again. -_-
@@enderkaix I wouldn’t say that, I mean there’s still a silver of a chance for him but I do really doubt it unless it involves a promotion for SMRPG in some way but I get the feeling SE is never going to do that. Not when they have other franchises that more fans of their company can recognise outside and inside of Smash and still have games coming out. So you know, it’s like Quest said, they have other franchises that they know will make them more money and better for their company’s profit, not mention had done more for SE than SMRPG did unfortunately (and it was shortly after that game that SE and Nintendo had their little fallout when SE jumped to Sony, think this was when FF7 was still going to end up a Nintendo 64 game originally) Sadly at the end of the day, money talks more than nostalgia. =( PS: Also, still wouldn’t be surprise if they try to promote Nier or Bravely Default II through Smash. Not that I would complain, there’s quite a few options for SE to go, their line-up is kinda insane right now. XD
while I agree the lack of a Rhythm Heaven character is surprising, I'm not surprised the Chorus Kids specifically didn't make the cut. Karate Joe just makes more sense to me, not just for the obvious reason either...he's literally the first game in the original Rhythm Tengoku on GBA and is one of the few characters recurring in EVERY game in the franchise ( the other big ones being the Wandering Samurai and the Barista ). also Isaac, Shovel Knight and another easy Echo fighter in Black Shadow....frankly I'm also surprised that there's a bunch of 1st party games & franchises that have literally NOTHING in Ultimate whatsoever....
Seriously Yo Kai watch blew up in Japan and got fairly popular here in the US (mainly due to the anime) but it extremely died down in the US around the time of the 2nd game I don’t know how it’s doing in Japan but I don’t remember hearing much about it recently about games n stuff
Here are omissions that are suprising for me in one way or another King Boo: he's popular, he has potential, we need more villains in Smash Bros, and he even had a recent game Sephiroth: he's just as if not more popular than Cloud yet he's not a playable character A proper Ganondorf: people have requested for a proper Ganondorf moveset for over a decade yet Sakurai does almost nothing to change his moveset or revamp the character Medusa: she's the perfect Echo Fighter for Palutena and I would expect Sakurai to pay more attention to a game HE DIRECTED. Any new Kirby characters: Kirby is Sakurai's crown jewel yet he doesn't give the Kirby series another playable character ( must be because he was more focused on putting Kirby favoritism in the story mode) Crash Bandicoot: come on he's been requested for a long time and his requests are around the same as Banjo and Kazooie yet they got in the first Fighters Pass.
Let's be real, there's no way Yo-Kai Watch would ever get in before Digimon. Digimon is a much bigger video game franchise. 19th highest grossing video game franchise of all time. (Not even counting anime, toys, or cards.)
Eh, the issue with Digimon inclusion is that, though it started as a game, it's kind of become more of an anime franchise than a game franchise. Would Sakurai be comfortable including Tai (a not originally from a game character TIED TO something that was originally a game, which definitely BENDS the "no character not from a game" rule) in a Final Smash or Victory Screen? Because it's definitely going to be Agumon that gets the slot? Unless, say, Sally Acorn (Sonic SatAM) or Genki (Monster Rancher) makes it in Fighters Pass 2, I'd have to say that detail probably removes ANY Digimon from the running.
@@Volvagia1927 Bandai Namco has stated Digimon is a video game franchise first. Tai actually came from a manga before the anime. (Pokemon Trainer's female alt also comes from the Manga -more specifically a book cover-, Lucario started in the anime) Tai maybe in the games but he's not the original canon Tamer. Since Digimon had 4 games out before the anime started they have plenty to use without referencing the Toei anime.

dark samus was very expected no idea what you mean. and she is also the one that got it the worst being a clone and so the biggest omission from smash ultimate. my list would be: 10. rayman - there were thropies in smash 4 and there was great demand. really couldn't believe he wasn't in. 9. medusa - from sakurai's own game, could have easily been a palutena echo or even used the palutena custom moves from smash 4. 8. bandai namco character - why? they are making the game and have many great characters. could also be a dlc now. 7. eggman - why? we need more villains and sonic is big though eggman could still be dlc we'll see. 6. paper mario - how is he not in? toon link but no paper mario - why? alternatively dimentio would also have worked for me. 5. zelda character / my pick would have been skull kid. 4. western third party character - like wtf? how was there no one? 3. a retro nintendo character from a new series. smash 4 had duck hunt, ultimate had ... had nobody. 2. ashley - why? because warioware has no characters in smash. and it's a big and current series. 1. dark samus - unique dark samus honorable: - a ton of random echo fighters. i mean why introduce such a concept and then not really use it...
I'm still sad Shadow wasn't an echo fighter for Sonic. A common theme among the echo fighters seemed to be rivals, with Ken, Dark Pit, Dark Samus, And Daisy. Yeah Lucina and [insert correct Belmont here] don't fit that, but they both had their own unique reasonings, with Lucina having lore implications from her series, and the Belmonts having their own series history. On the subject of the Belmonts, it seemed so strange to Me that a brand new series to Smash would have not just a second rep, but an echo at that, I thought with this there was no way Shadow wasn't getting in. Then Shadow even had his own Skull Kid moment, where Knuckles was shown as an assist trophy, and Shadow was nowhere to be seen.
@@INFERNO95 I'm not saying Caslevania doesn't deserve it's spots on the roster, I'm saying it was so unexpected in terms of how likely it was to get representation, that the highly requested and perfect echo character that is Shadow was too obvious not to be included.
You talked about a Yokai for a Level five character but I am personally really surprised that we didn't get any Inazuma Eleven rep in smash. I don't know how this franchise is viewed in Japan and America but in Western Europe, it was a phenomenon for 2000-2010. There was Inazuma Eleven in every video game shops, generally multiple titles and the anime has beaten record notably in spain, italy, france and Belgium. And it is not like Inazuma Eleven lacks iconic characters. I'm really surprised no-one is talking about it. When I was at school, it was almost as big as pokemon, everyone was watching it. Maybe it's because the generation actually making character request was already in high school.
i don't know about Alph.. i mean, i don't think no one else was really expecting (myself included) them to just separate an alternate costume from the character, specially when the normal character already fullfils the function of being both. Nintendo instead of choosing Zelda as the 3rd franchise with most characters, they have chosen Fire Emblem which doesn't come close in popularity to any of those. I think Karate joe is more likely than chorus kids.. but we will see Yeah.. it's rare that NO new xenoblade rep was in general. Dixie would have been ok as an echo I expected decidueye as well but i'm not mad at incineroar, i mean it makes sense, yes sakurai didn't want too much fighting game characters, but wrestling even if it is fighting, it's a way of fighting that was not in smash ultimate, consider it like, we have boxing, we have martial arts, and now we have wrestling. Geno yeah, i don't want him but i'm surprised that he wasn't confirmed or deconfirmed at all, and i wouldn't mind if he was a character, i know how is it to want a character that doesn't ever get his chance. a yokai.. i mean it's obvious but i would hate it, as an inazuma eleven fan i just hate yokai watch for becoming level-5 priority even delaying the new inazuma eleven game, despite yokai watch already having lost it's initial popularity, and i don't even say that then an inazuma eleven should then be the one chosen, no, i say if anyone from level-5 enters the roster it should be HERSHEL LAYTON. The Monster hunter, while i'm not a fan of the series, even i i'm surprised that he didn't get into the game as a character, knowing rathalos is a boss. man Shadow being deconfirmed just broke my heart.. sonic was in smash since brawl and didn't ever got the cut, and since new series like castlevania can indeed have echo fighters i just thought that Shadow was very likely, in fact, They revealed the same day of the game's announcement that Knuckles was indeed an assist trophy, with no signs at all of Shadow's assist trophy i was expecting him to have finally became a fighter and that knuckles was an assist to replace his spot in the assist trophies, but then sakurai just waited until the very LAST SMASH NINTENDO DIRECT (before launch) to deconfirm shadow and show his assist trophy, which really, REALLY HURT.
See, I was the one leading the charge that if Sonic got an echo, it should have been Metal Sonic over Shadow. Metal has served that role in a way before in Sonic Adventure DX, and he has a longer history in the series. As things stand now? If Sonic does get another rep I want Eggman. Completely new moveset, a potential unique stage in the Death Egg, and at least 3 new Sonic songs not already in (Sonic 3 Big Arms, Sonic 2 Death Egg Robot, E.G.G.M.A.N. from Adventure 2)
Ik this came after but the reason Geno didnt get in was bc they didnt wanna repeat the same mistake and adding character bc of Smash (They dont want characters to turn to Smash Characters)
Yeah I agree, during the speculation time some of these characters were basically taken as given and I'm still baffled that they are not in. Alph was such an easy echo fighter, Chorus Kids would have finally made sense, the Monster Hunter would have been perfect alongside the other MH content, Shadow was another easy and popular pick for an echo fighter and Geno is the only one left from the triforce of most requested characters after Ridley and KKR made it in the base game. Their absence is just odd. There are rumors on how the MH was scrapped mid development, how SE said no to Geno and how the CK were not an high priority, but I still don't get what stopped them to get Alph and Shadow.
Fact Check: Yo Kai Watch is no longer an exclusive Nintendo game as Yo Kai Watch 4 is on the PS4 and Yo Kai Watch Jam: Academy Y is heading on the PS4 as well. Also Jibanyan was the 10th most requested in Europe, not Japan
Shadow not being a fighter is still weird for me, if they wanted it fast, put him as an Echo, if you want an original moveset, make him a DLC so he can use Chaos attacks
The most surprising omission from Smash to me will forever be Heihachi Mishima TEKKEN is such a massive franchise among fighting games and arcade games that I am baffled they did such a franchise dirty. Kinda hurts too Otherwise, I'd say Dixie Kong, Impa, Bandana Dee and Shadow yeah
Great video mate! Really share your sentiment with Jibanyan and Yo-Kai Watch in general, I was seen as crazy for predicting him as a character for Ultimate... guess I was! I would've loved to have some spirits from Professor Layton and especially Inazuma Eleven with it too. Now that we've just got the news on Level-5 USA, it's all just a bit sad, really. Shadow not being an Echo was madness and similarly sad, Sonic remains underrepresented. As for Geno, there's actually a surprisingly understandable explanation for why this one-time Mario RPG guy became so randomly popular in the first place, I made a video on it if anyone's interested!
I'm surprised Toad/Toadette have never shown up in a Smash Bros game as official playable characters, not just a Mii costume. They are pretty iconic characters in the Mario universe and they are playable in every other Mario game it seems so why not Smash?

SHADOW FOR SMASH ITS ABOUT TIME
I’m okay
I’m honestly surprised that Mario made it to smash. He is very unexpected
Didn't put him in the thumbnail this time 😉
Ikr I swear no one even knows him. He’s just the guy from the Piranha Plant end screen
What do you mean? Mario isn't in Smash Brothers yet. I had to look them up to even realize who they are since how obscure he is and even then, how could you make a moveset out of him? What would he do, use a fire ball?
Troll.
I know this is a meme, but I don't get what the reference is.
If shadow got into smash, the entire main cast of SMBZ would be playable...
Mecha Sonic says hi

Yes plz
Any new pokemon fight, either Sceptile or nothing.

LOZ one offs tend to be minor characters for the most part, so Nintendo probably doesn't feel the need to bring them back as much unfortunately.

I agree with Mr. Yabuki, there's no one main character of ARMS, so Min Min had just as good of a chance as one of the first fighters revealed.

I've said this a lot and frankly: Dixie would NOT make sense to be a full on clone of Diddy
see in my opinion: at best she would be a semi-clone of Diddy
edit: also I still keep forgetting that Yo-Kai Watch exists
Even I prefer for Dixie to be a semi-echo of Diddy. Being a complete echo would easily ruin her character. Look at Dark Samus.
Ya,I think it would kinda be like a ness/lucas or villager/isabelle type situation, not that different, but not that similar either
@@kylewk172 I think it would be more like chrom’s situation
Semi-clone can still be Echoes, Ken is literally right there
I'm pretty surprised there has been nothing new on the Sonic front minus some new tracks. No moveset overhaul, no new stages, new voicelines, and no new characters. Hopefully Dr Eggman can show up as DLC
Finally a man with good taste. Eggman deserves it.
Yeah I think I remember hearing something about that
Moon well imo they aren't wrong wish they'd add deviljho.
I was surprised, in Brawl, that Vaati was not in Smash, since he appears in 3 recent (for Brawl days) games, making him the second villain after Ganon (equally to Ganondorf with 3 representations)
Also he appeared in the Smash Kingdom Parodies on Newgrounds during the Brawl Speculation Days.
Nintendo just likes to undermine the Legend of Zelda series it's that simple
I might be going against the grain here but I’d rather have Shadow as his own fighter in Smash rather than an Echo Fighter for Sonic. I see so many people say Shadow should be an Echo Fighter for Sonic but I don’t think it’d work.
In a lot of the games, Shadow uses a variety of long range weapons, as well, he has unique abilities Sonic does not such as Chaos Control and Chaos Spear
In my mind, Shadow could work as maybe a pseudo clone for Sonic, with Chaos Control working similar to Bayonetta’s Witch Time.
Look up these two mods of him that showcase unique abilities. Share these with anyone who doesn’t think he should be unique.
Smash flash mod by znx
Smash legacy
Exactly. Shadow has too many unique abilities to be considered an Echo. He just got shafted. And so did Knuckles.

He'd work as a unique fighter or an echo.
But him being a echo would just raise his chances of getting in,
Well at least before he was disconfirmed.
At least the two Zelda is a unique enough She's a wizard and a ninja.

If that's the case; Explain how the Monster Hunter got into Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
@@TheGamersState Probably without the creator’s permission.
@@donkeykongisytpooping3002 But the game was made by Capcom whom owns Monster Hunter, why would they need permission?
We could still get a mii costume which is better then nothing.
That’s like if Yoshi got in with no mention of Mario or Toad.
Finally someone actually acknowledged that SHADOW was highly requested.
I feel that they simply added Alph because he already was in SSB4, otherwise they wouldn't even care.

zelda is well representated with stages, because thats were zelda shines, on it's locations, every time the characters are link zelda and ganon with few more support character each time
Either you don't know what you're talking about or you're being sarcastic since NO support characters in the Zelda series are added, the stages are decent but I would have liked it if Ganondorf's Castle was a playable stage, speaking of Ganondorf he is still a clone, and most of the Zelda characters in the roster are redesigns of Link.

@@Arksimon2k the difference is that the spirits never actually show up on screen and attack, assist trophies do.

@@Dan_- honestly I’m surprised I’ve never thought of that 😂
I disagree with a few of the guys on this list.
Yes actually I am
Man, I love your thumbnails
@@bobjeezorham7658
But Banjo (unlike the ugly puppet) is more iconic than you can imagine, despite his series being dead he's a well remembered retro character.
Okay, that pretty graphics part is kinda hitting below the belt but it’s true. XD
If you’re lucky, Geno will probably be upgraded a deluxe Mii costume but I can’t see it going any further than that.
It's still bitter that most echo fighters aren't different enough to change how they're played.
lemme tell you right here and now,
it is *NOT*, like, absolutely 0%, surprising that Geno didnt make it in
the character only appeared in one game, only had a cameo in one game, said cameo was taken out in the remake of that game, and wasnt even a main character in the one game that he appeared in
if anything, it would be surprising if he did get in (which he absolutely wont lol)
the most he will get is a mii costume... like.... 100% sure about that
That’s a tad harsh. ^^;
But I have to agree unless there’s some sort of promotion involved with SMRPG SE won’t even humour the idea and since they still holds the rights to Geno, that kinda pretty much seals his fate since SE never does anything for free, charity or not without something in return at least, not to mention they’re the stingiest company out of all the ones Sakurai worked with.
@@questrequested9171 Oh I know, neither do I. Don’t worry. Though it’s hard to sympathise with his fans sometimes when they start trash talking other characters, then again every fandom is guilty of that. I really do feel for them, I do. But they do kinda do this to themselves and it’s painful to watch. Kinda reminds me of the robots from Nier Automata, doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over.
But I do think we’ll see another SE rep before Geno gets considered in SE’s eyes. Not unless some miracle happens.
Heck, we might not even get another SE rep, that’s another possibility to consider but we’ll just see how the last four spots pan out. ^^
Either way, someone’s gonna be happy and others are going to probably rage rant on Twitter to Nintendo and Sakurai’s page...again. -_-
Damn straight facts. Destroyed the dreams of the geno fans.😂
PS: Also, still wouldn’t be surprise if they try to promote Nier or Bravely Default II through Smash. Not that I would complain, there’s quite a few options for SE to go, their line-up is kinda insane right now. XD

0:49 steve from a game 11yrs old: are you sure bout that
while I agree the lack of a Rhythm Heaven character is surprising, I'm not surprised the Chorus Kids specifically didn't make the cut.
FE Fates was released in Japan on 2015
Seriously Yo Kai watch blew up in Japan and got fairly popular here in the US (mainly due to the anime) but it extremely died down in the US around the time of the 2nd game I don’t know how it’s doing in Japan but I don’t remember hearing much about it recently about games n stuff
I think its pretty Clear to anyone who isnt a fanatic of Smash history that Geno isnt a weird ommission.
THANK YOU!!! Elma would be...SUCH a cool character I’m so sad she didn’t get in and I’m not very hopeful for a DLC spot for her..
You should do this again but when DLC is over, itd be cool to see what’s changed and who got cut at that point
Oh yeah cos he said something about pyra and when I'm typing this she's been revealed
Here are omissions that are suprising for me in one way or another
King Boo: he's popular, he has potential, we need more villains in Smash Bros, and he even had a recent game
Sephiroth: he's just as if not more popular than Cloud yet he's not a playable character
A proper Ganondorf: people have requested for a proper Ganondorf moveset for over a decade yet Sakurai does almost nothing to change his moveset or revamp the character
Medusa: she's the perfect Echo Fighter for Palutena and I would expect Sakurai to pay more attention to a game HE DIRECTED.
Any new Kirby characters: Kirby is Sakurai's crown jewel yet he doesn't give the Kirby series another playable character ( must be because he was more focused on putting Kirby favoritism in the story mode)
Crash Bandicoot: come on he's been requested for a long time and his requests are around the same as Banjo and Kazooie yet they got in the first Fighters Pass.
Let's be real, there's no way Yo-Kai Watch would ever get in before Digimon. Digimon is a much bigger video game franchise. 19th highest grossing video game franchise of all time. (Not even counting anime, toys, or cards.)
Agumon and he evolves throughout the match
Dixie Kong & Bandana Dee shoulda been playable in vanilla Ultimate. Seriously, it bothers me that the Metroid series has one more character than DK & Kirby. -_-

I would say imposters from among us
I can't remember if youve ever had a sponsor before. In case it's your first congrats bro I think I speak for everyone if I say that you deserve it
Midna back in the Brawl days felt like such a no-brainer inclusion. She was well loved, and like Ganondorf, Sheik and Young Link in Melee, it made sense to include characters from the most recent Zelda game, especially since they were all already taking after there TP design.
Alas, her chances remain dead. Never to be revived. R.I.P.
Shadow seemed like a no-brained as soon as they slapped a name on clones.
All the major characters people thought would be in Ultimate but never were (Prior to the final roster announcement):
Waluigi
Shadow the Hedgehog
Isaac
Ashley
Skull Kid
Karate Joe
Chorus Kids
Porky
Medusa (And many potential echos like Ms. Pac-Man, Ninten and Black Shadow)
Rex
Springman
Rayman
Medusa still has a chance since she's not an assist trophy.
OH HEY, YOU GOT PYRA EVENTUALLY
dark samus was very expected no idea what you mean.
and she is also the one that got it the worst being a clone and so the biggest omission from smash ultimate.
my list would be:
10. rayman - there were thropies in smash 4 and there was great demand. really couldn't believe he wasn't in.
9. medusa - from sakurai's own game, could have easily been a palutena echo or even used the palutena custom moves from smash 4.
8. bandai namco character - why? they are making the game and have many great characters. could also be a dlc now.
7. eggman - why? we need more villains and sonic is big though eggman could still be dlc we'll see.
6. paper mario - how is he not in? toon link but no paper mario - why? alternatively dimentio would also have worked for me.
5. zelda character / my pick would have been skull kid.
4. western third party character - like wtf? how was there no one?
3. a retro nintendo character from a new series. smash 4 had duck hunt, ultimate had ... had nobody.
2. ashley - why? because warioware has no characters in smash. and it's a big and current series.
1. dark samus - unique dark samus
honorable:
- a ton of random echo fighters. i mean why introduce such a concept and then not really use it...
Are we going to get an Echo fighter pass in the future
Hopefully
I already got who I wanted it being steve.
I got who I wanted it being banjo and kazooie
Castlevania has been around longer and has a deeper tied to Nintendo then sonic ever did.
I think Karate joe is more likely than chorus kids.. but we will see
Yeah.. it's rare that NO new xenoblade rep was in general.
Dixie would have been ok as an echo
I expected decidueye as well but i'm not mad at incineroar, i mean it makes sense, yes sakurai didn't want too much fighting game characters, but wrestling even if it is fighting, it's a way of fighting that was not in smash ultimate, consider it like, we have boxing, we have martial arts, and now we have wrestling.
I feel like Sakurai deliberately left out common fighters that are wanted like Waluigi in case a new Smash bros is made in the future
I doubt that.
It's because Sakurai hates Waluigi
I've only just realised if they carried doing polls for new fighters banjo and kazooie would've probably been added in brawl
pyra and mytra are in the game now as dlc
WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FINISH THE ALT SERIES THATS THE ONLY REASON IM SUBBED
I assumed Shadow was a shoe-in
As a Yokai watch fan I'd say that a Jibanyan, Baddinyan and Shogunyan combo would be cool. Maybe Komasan as well.
I think I'm the only one who actually likes Pirhanna plant at this point.

Well, Geno is a mii costume again. Looks like you lost.
Steve (#4 on the Smash 4 Fighter Ballot) made it in while Bandana Waddle Dee (#3 on the Ballot) didn’t make it in for some reason.
Shadow not being a fighter is still weird for me, if they wanted it fast, put him as an Echo, if you want an original moveset, make him a DLC so he can use Chaos attacks
The most surprising omission from Smash to me will forever be Heihachi Mishima
TEKKEN is such a massive franchise among fighting games and arcade games that I am baffled they did such a franchise dirty. Kinda hurts too
Otherwise, I'd say Dixie Kong, Impa, Bandana Dee and Shadow yeah
What age rating does Tekken have.

Did the video footage lag and then quickly speed up for anyone else?
I really hoped ashleh would've become playable, especially since she scored well in fan polls, and her mii costume wasn't revealed for awhile
