I am re-watching this and realize Ant has a sort of flying goose detail on his hat, I think you guys should design a hat motif from the wooden patchwork on the wall of the cabin, print up a batch of caps, and sell them in the shop! Many of us might wear them and certainly buy for our men!

You absolutely MUST have a wood burning stove in your little cabin ! Not only to keep it as cosy as toast but you can put a kettle on it. Also, you need a big picture window in front for the view. Imagine spending afternoons or even evenings watching the wildlife whilst knitting or hand stitching. 🤩🤩🤩

Hello, Kate! I built a 10’x10’ ( I’d need a building permit to build a larger one) potting shed a few years ago. I built it from the ground up by myself, with the exception of a couple of days when a friend came over to: 1) hold one end of the trusses while I fastened them, and 2) to hold the ladder while I put the upper rows and ridge cap of shingles. She’s not Ant, but she is willing and able to follow my direction! 😊 I used salvaged windows from our local Habitat for Humanity Restore and doors from a yard sale-$2 each and I made one into a Dutch door. I also upcycled a couple of bedsteads and a dining table-also from the Restore-#into lower cabinets and shelves. I just need to finish my potting counter where I’ll install an old IKEA sink with integrated drain board that I bought at a yard sale. Having watched this video, I’m itching to get back out there. However, it’s the second week of December, we have 6” of snow, and it’s currently raining. My shed will be cold and damp, and certainly not favourable working conditions for this 70-yr-old woman! I’m just going to sit back with a cup of tea by my fire and watch catch up with the next episode in your cabin adventure. Thank you, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦

I was thinking of that - but despite providing shelters over the years, Eileen has never used them. Even to the point of lying in the snow next to the open door of a straw lined shed. But I think I'll talk to him about something like you suggest. Gotta keep trying! xxx
I got some reusable fly trap jars and put a chicken liver and water in it. Fill about halfway with water. hang somewhere away from sitting area or smell will be strong. But it works. Traps them by the ton.

When I first saw the video showing the construction of the boardwalk it did occur to me that it would be nice to have some sort of verandah at the end there - but you had gone way past that idea, and I think the "Pond Lodge" is an absolutely wonderful idea!! Of course you had already thought of that!!! You would even be able to spend some time down there if it was raining - and what a good idea to install a compost loo!! It's looking really good now that the boards are down, and it looks amazing in the aerial view. It's always lovely to watch Eileen swanning about on the pond - I could watch her doing that for hours!!😊

To distribute the concrete and those posts is so brilliant and in time had this not been part of the foundation you can only imagine as the weather continues over the years there would be trouble. You have lovely friends and your family that are so encouraging with your ideas. Oh if I were there I would visit while it goes up and maybe share a small meal wiith tea for the hardy workers.

I would have been bursting to share the idea! I can understand Eileen may not want an enclosed space but wonder if she would use an open space, more of a windbreak with a bit of roof than an enclosure where a predator could corner her? That recycled door with the foggy glass would be a great privacy door for your bathroom there. Still enough light coming into it but also privacy

It is such a delight to watch you guys. Kate, you are a teacher in all kinds of life matters. And you do it in such a way, that everybody feels good about themselves. It`s hard to put into words, but I think it is, because everything you do comes from your heart and it shows and affects everyone around you. I just can`t wait for the next video to come out, on the other channel as well, because it is like a dose of medicine for me. Kate, the medicine women, lol.

Kate and Ant, this is amazing and wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing videos as this Haven is being brought to reality! I love that this is a collaborative vision, seeming to come along more step-by-step than by preset design. Kate, how did you keep the secret of the cabin? I would have been bursting to share the idea! I can understand Eileen may not want an enclosed space but wonder if she would use an open space, more of a windbreak with a bit of roof than an enclosure where a predator could corner her? Just an idea. She gets her own pond, a fantasy for any goose I'm sure! But some part of me just wants her to have shelter as well. Can't wait for #9 (and thanks for numbering!) Best to you all.

My what a lot of work you and your team have had to do especially in such adverse conditions. Many would have abandoned the idea, but you have ploughed on and it’s going to be an amazing spot. I’d love to sit and knit in there! It’s like a little boathouse. Can’t wait to see how you decorate it. ⚓️⛵️🛟
I know - it seems crazy to be carrying on in this horrible weather - but all those guys are keen to paddle about in mud or work in the pouring rain! Mad! I can't wait till next spring though when it's all done and I can sit on the deck with a cuppa! ha ha! xxx

Your contractor friend is wonderful, finding the insulation! He thinks like you with repurposing and recycled materials. Gosh, I cannot believe that I have caught up with real time. What a great idea having a cabin or a hide in the woods. In case this is a one off thing, please have a Happy, Healthy and Safe Christmas.
