Bought the Switch Oled Mario edition for myself as a New Years gift. Yes it is worth it (Coming from someone that has the PS5, a Gaming PC and now the Switch) Love it.
That’s the same Switch OLED I have and the Switch is my only system I own, I had a PS4 but didn’t get on with the games and then there was the issue with storage space on the hard drive and I wasn’t prepared to spend £90 to £200 on a 2TB hard drive plus i didn’t enjoy the majority of the games I had and nor was the PS4 UI great to navigate either, I love my Switch and it’s the best system I’ve had in a very long time and the most fun. Nintendo being the last of the old guard of Nintendo and Sega and having grown up with and owned more Nintendo systems than any other, the familiarity and simplicity of Nintendo’s IPs made it a no brainier to choose the Switch and will be sticking with Nintendo’s consoles moving forward.
Seriously, It's like we were in another world back then, My wife (now ex)and I stood out in line the day of release at Hastings and we both had requested that day off from work, spent the whole day playing it, brings back great memories.
Probably nobody wants to know that, but HW Legacy got updated and runs FAR BETTER in the open world environment. In the meantime Arkham Asylum got an update that (mostly) fixed the stuttering while running. Also, Turn Me Up stated that they're actively working on City and Knight patches and they're coming soon
I bought one this month, never had one before. It was an impulse buy because I could and not a lot of thinking behind it. I didn’t get it for exclusives. I just wanted something to play in bed. Now I’ve spent over 200$ on games. But I’m very happy with the OLED model. And judging by Switch 2’s LCD screen, I am definitely not regretting it. Once Switch 2 gets an OLED version I will upgrade.
The fact that all this stuff is the SAME PRICE as it was when it released, basically, drives me absolutely insane. Every one should drop at least $50 by now.
I just bought a switch lite two days ago Since I never had a switch, the lite will let me enjoy what I missed without spending much, and when the switch 2 is released, I'll be able to experience these games in a TV.
well nintedo hasn't said at all if the normal switch games will work on the switch 2 and if you really wanted to play the games on the tv then you shpuld have bought the normal switch instead.
Honestly, are you really saving that much buying a Lite instead of a regular Switch? After tax, you're still paying like $230-250 or so for the Switch Lite right? At that point, the regular Switch is another $50 plus tax. Not only that but you're missing out on the key feature of the Switch being able to be docked or undocked. You're also missing out on the slight overclock and resolution that plugging the Switch into the dock provides. Example: 720p vs 1080p.
I'd recommend u to play the games that were released on the Switch in it's first years (zelda breath of the wild, mario odyssey, mario kart 8, smash bros, xenoblade chronicles 2..etc) as the last games might get a re-release or graphical patches on the upcoming switch
@@kingzach74 I've used both a Switch Lite and an OLED. My PC monitor is OLED, and I appreciate the difference, but I always prefered the Lite for a plethora of reasons. 1. It fits in my pocket, a portable console that isn't portable also loses a "key feature". 2. I love the colourful models, not just on the joycons, but a full, blue unit. 3. It may only be £50 or so more for a normal one, but know what else is £50? A whole new game or two. I see why people would prefer the big ones, but why would I buy something with an OLED display only to not use said OLED display? Needless to say, I kept the Lite.
@@azurekite3870 the Switch 2 will almost certainly be backwards compatible with current Switch games, Nintendo’s not gonna piss off it’s Switch install base or just abandon the switch brand when it’s been so successful for them.

If Switch 2 arrives this year i'll wait a little bit to get it, i don't feel in the need to upgrade yet, i hope the Metroid Remastered 2 and 3 arrives to Switch too.
I think the performance issues for Pokemon arent a switch issue, bit a franchise issue. I love pokemon but I'm so frustrated by the lack of fully voiced dialogue in the games; even the cutscenes have no VA. They also pump out games too frequently, they need to put more time into their games but they've gotten lazy bc they're gonna sell regardless.
Absolutely but then even on well optimized games like Tears of the Kingdom or the Xenoblade games, while it’s impressive how decently they run, you can tell it’s not optimal
Lack of fully voice acted dialogue in video games is not nearly as big an issue as you think it is. Games have had zero voice acting for decades and the overwhelming majority of video games considered "great" or "the best" either don't have any or what voice acting they did have was so inconsequential to what actually made them good that it might as well not have been there.
I agree, it’s nothing to do with the switch hardware it’s everything to do with game freak, been incompetent developers and the recent Pokémon games don’t even look good so how can it be a switch issue when the games look so bad. They look like PS2 games or at worst PS1 games.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 I would say it is closer to early low budget ps 3 games and good looking and well made ps 2 games, because games on ps 1 and early ps2 still has very sharp edges on character models and worse resolution and textures.

The fact that a handheld could compete with streamline consoles like PlayStation and X-Box was at first an impossible idea. Now I can confidently say that the Switch did just that. The only other competitor I can think of when it comes to handhelds is steam deck, and that has always felt a little too much like a literal PC rather than a handheld.
I bought and OLED Switch 3 days ago. I had not played nintendo games since 2010. I also never owned a Switch before. Everything is new to me right now. I have a very, very expensive PC setup and the Switch is just FUN. That's it. If I let my graphic expectations down (frame rate is a whole other story) then yea, it's still worth it. If you have a similar situation to mine, you will be very happy. You could still buy a Steam Deck and run emulators which my friend yaps about all the time but, you can't play online with friends. Sooo perhaps if you are more tech savvy you should probably buy a Steam Deck so you can get access to both sides of the coin. I don't have any games I would rather play on my Steam Deck than my PC so the Switch just made sense.

Nah. A Gaming PC(or handheld gaming PC like a Steamdeck (or any other handheld that runs Windows) and a Switch Emulator(Yuzu or Ryujinx) are best for Nintendo Exclusives. They are far more powerful, can support higher resolutions, and higher framerates, and you're not limited to Nintendo's frankly subpar controllers. I've pretty much stopped using my Switch entirely since I started using Switch Emulation(I use my gaming desktop with discreet graphics and desktop CPU). I get significantly higher framerates and PHENOMENALLY BETTER resolution(up to 4K 30FPS!), and while I understand not everyone wants to use a computer to play games, in general, it is a MUCH better overall experience when you have a proper gaming device to run the games.
@@kingzach74 the Switch stomps these niche PC handheld systems because they don’t have that Nintendo magic and simplicity and scummy people who hate Nintendo will illegally pirate their games!
People ask for something that is not super expensive that can run games, Nintendo does exactly that, People : Oh this things sucks, I can't even run games at 240 frames per second. Then watch them listen to ya'll and drop a $600+ console that runs amazing but then ya'll gone start bching now about the price. You can't please everyone! I love the swtich and have no complaints about it!
Problem is they really don't go down on the used market at all, so it's not even like you can get one second hand for cheap. I personally hate how the joycons feel. I know you can use an external controller though in docked mode, it's an option, but I feel like it defeats the 'switch' part. The switch lite feels *SO MUCH* better and more solid, but you get no video out with that so you lose the console. I feel like you have to pick "console" or "portable" with the switch vs switch lite and then you suffer with the other.
I have really wanted to play Tears, but I can't justify 350.00 for one game that isn't even smooth running - so I'm hoping that whatever Nintendo has coming - I'll be able to buy that ( even if at a higher price ) and play Tears finally, without the technical issues. I'm old. I don't have time or money to spend on last gen glitches and frustrating experiences I guess.
I was debating between a Switch and a Steam Deck but I managed to get myself a Switch Lite for $60 on OfferUp. Then I did the RP2040 Modchip on mine and man am I glad I went this route. I’ve owned all 4 of them, oled is the best over all. Especially as a dad I can now play with my kids on the tv in the living room. Until I got the oled I preferred the lite.
Really this just boils down to one concept: Do you want to play Nintendo games? Fact is is most people buy the Switch for exclusives, unlike other consoles (not that their exclusives arent damn fine). And even when you factor in the end of lifespan, there are incredible deals on used Switches that still make it worth the purchase IMO.
I literally just bought a Switch last week, mostly for portable play of the old Final Fantsy games while still having the ability to play on a TV. Might grab some other games, but for the most part I’m not actually interested in any of the exclusives. At least not atm.
I bought a switch lite on June 2023 and hated it. Thought it was dated already. Some games were lagging. Then I modded it, overclocked it. Now it is my favorite console over my playstation. I can also play my games on pc using sysDVR. Modding saved the switch for me!
I haven't touched my switched for more than a couple minutes in like 3 years? the online is garbage and not worth the money, the ecosystem is very anti consumer (you have to pay for cloud saves, you can't buy old games released on their classic online service, etc), the performance for most third party and even some of the first party (looking at you pokemon) is mid to awful at best, and the form factor in hand held is terrible for me (notably the flatness of the back of the system leads me using a claw grip on the back which leads to cramping after about 30 minutes). I could probably come up with some other things, but I'll leave it at that. Now that I have a steamdeck, my need to use my switch is non-existent.
I just bought an OLED and do not regret it at all! Its amazing. I keep hearing people say it's not worth it because Switch 2 but no one even knows when its coming out. I doubt it will even come out this year because there is no promo for it yet so go out and get the OLED!

Plus at the price of only $300 or $200 if you get the light version it's almost a no-brainer
Tech reviewers keep on comparing to steam deck and it's performance, how about the battery life? the reason you would like to have a handheld console is to play it while up and about, not tied in to a charger. might as well use a full blown console if you want that kind of performance. the switch offers a pretty basic function for you to play hours and hours of games while not being tied to a charger. Well for what its worth I bought the OLED version (Zelda package) of the Switch last summer. And so far I like it. Given the fact that I got the system very late in its life cycle I don't think I missed much. The M classic makes the switch look awesome at 720p upscaled to 1440p. Since the switch is only rendering 720p you get higher and more consistent frames along with. Nintendo being the last of the old guard of Nintendo and Sega and having grown up with and owned more Nintendo systems than any other, the familiarity and simplicity of Nintendo’s IPs made it a no brainier to choose the Switch and will be sticking with Nintendo’s consoles moving forward.
my parents got thqt same version for me and ive been playing a lot more now :3

Right!! I was in 8th grade when I got switch. I'm in college now
I remember the days when people were pissed off when it first launched with only the party games and BOTW. Wonder where those people are today.
Seriously, It's like we were in another world back then, My wife (now ex)and I stood out in line the day of release at Hastings and we both had requested that day off from work, spent the whole day playing it, brings back great memories.
does it still works?@@javierdelgado3915
Man I wish we can go back in time to the simple days.

I'm 59 and just bought a Lite and am loving it
I just bought a switch lite two days ago
Since I never had a switch, the lite will let me enjoy what I missed without spending much, and when the switch 2 is released, I'll be able to experience these games in a TV.
well nintedo hasn't said at all if the normal switch games will work on the switch 2 and if you really wanted to play the games on the tv then you shpuld have bought the normal switch instead.

Bro switch isn’t meant to play big triple A games it is meant to play games like Mario,Kirby and other 1. party Nintendo games!

While with the steam deck you have all the PC catalog and even retro emulation catalog. In less than a year your Switch cost you several thousand dollars.
@@user-Cata7sti7ma7you still have to buy games on pc if you do not already own any, so your point doesn’t make sense.
@@user-Cata7sti7ma7what the fuuuuck are you talking about?? Unless you’re buying a bunch of deluxe edition crap, the big new fancy games are the standard $60 to $70 price that every other big publisher charges for their games nowadays. If you’re just pathologically buying up every video game out there, doing so on a pc store isn’t going to be saving you money.
price wise, steam games are full of discounts and a lot cheaper , so in the long run unless you want nintendo exclusives without emulation, then there isnt really a reason to get a switch over a steam deck

My partner has been gaming on my Switch so much more. Like randomly see her grabbing it and playing randomly throughout the day. You know she's into it when I taking the switch to the bathroom, during work breaks, during chores, playing instead of watching her series. I'm like damn I think I should get one for me, I haven't been able to finish any of the games I've been playing.
Should I wait for new switch or get another one?
The M classic makes the switch look awesome at 720p upscaled to 1440p. Since the switch is only rendering 720p you get higher and more consistent frames along with.
I wouldn't hold your breathe for a switch2 anytime soon. The switch is still selling well and as you said if optimized there is still performance left.
Afaik, switch 2 releases at the end of this year
@@RuneScapeStevejust rumors, same rumors have been around in the last 3 years.
@@riot9179 well, we will see. Several sources say the 2nd half of 2024. Around September likely
Look.
20 years ago for my 10th birthday I got my Gameboy advance sp with Pokémon ruby, and I just want to feel that again 😭
I’d say the biggest example of the Switch’s major setbacks is MK1. The clear downgrade and embarrassing quality of it on Switch is enough proof.
No Man's Sky and minecraft as well and those are older game. Both are completely unstable with default settings and No Man's Sky is still missing massive chunks of the game because the switch just can't handle it.
Bruh I'm a freaking moron I just went "What'd they do to Mario Kart?" And had to read it 3 times before I realized you meant Mortal Kombat.
Mortal kombat doesn't run well on the steam deck, even the rog ally can't hold 60fps on it😂
I just know if they made one today, it would do great for the sheer fact of how far ARM processors have become and how much the cost of SSDs has dropped. The switch is the perfect balance of price & portability of course at the post of power.
I can't believe, I watched the Lite Video 5 years ago and had immediately purchased mine online.😢
You’re still getting a great system with loads of great games! We don’t know anything about the next nintendo console nor has anything been confirmed about it so i think its fine for you to get a switch at this time
I"m 38 years old and own an Xbox Series X... but I also want to game a bit before bed... IN bed! I'm choosing the Switch Lite over the Steam Deck and ROG Ally because I don't want to essentially buy a compact laptop and have an operating system to manage/take care of in order to play games. The Switch wins easily IMO.
I just ordered my Switch oled from Amazon today.
Agree with the summary of this video. I had a Rog Ally. Swapped it yesterday for a Switch OLED. Nintendo wins. Wish they could have the extra money I wasted on ASUS :(
I'll be getting a used dockable Switch sometime soon.
I look forward to playing some Mario and Zelda games again.
Yeah dude it was awesome playing super Mario bros for the first time in 15 years again
@@daegan00 I haven't really played any 3D Mario games since 64, so I have a lot of catching up to do. 😅
"there's no more juice left in the console yet the grinding don't stop...." pretty epic statement.
