Some of the most important bands/singers/performers that participated in Woodstock ’94 were: Blues Traveler, Live, King's X, Sheryl Crow, Collective Soul, Candlebox, Violent Femmes, Orbital, Joe Cocker, Blind Melon, Cypress Hill, Rollins Band, Crosby, Stills, & Nash featuring John Sebastian, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, Aerosmith (Joey Kramer, Joe Perry and Steven Tyler were all at the original Woodstock festival in 1969), The Cranberries, Primus, Salt 'N Pepa, The Allman Brothers Band, Traffic, Spin Doctors, Porno For Pyros, Bob Dylan (who eclined to go to the original Woodstock Festival of 1969), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Peter Gabriel, Green Day, Paul Rodgers Rock and Blues Revue featuring Slash, Neal Schon, Andy Fraser, and Jason Bonham, Neville Brothers, among many others... Nine Inch Nails had the largest crowd density at the event, overshadowing many of the other performers. Just before going on stage they wrestled each other in the mud and went on to perform completely wet and covered in mud. Reznor admitted that while he disliked playing at such a large show, it was done for the money: "To be quite frank, it's basically to offset the cost of the tour we're doing right now." Their performance of "Happiness in Slavery" at the festival won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 1996. During Primus' performance of the song "My Name Is Mud" the audience responded by pelting the band with mud, which singer/bassist Les Claypool ended by informing the crowd that "You know, when you throw things on stage, it's a sign of small and insignificant genitalia." Claypool claims that he still has mud in his bass cabinets as late as 2014. Guns N' Roses were asked to appear at the festival, but the band declined due to internal problems as well as feeling the concert was too 'commercial.' Johnny Cash, the only living person at that time to be inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, was also invited to perform, but after learning that he would not be performing on the main stage, declined to appear. Alice in Chains were on the initial bill of the festival. However, the band pulled out due to the continuing drug problems of lead singer Layne Staley, although Guitarist Jerry Cantrell made a special guest appearance with Primus on the song "Harold Of The Rocks". Promoters pursued Nirvana to perform at the festival. At the time, the band pulled out of Lollapalooza due to singer Kurt Cobain's health. Cobain later died by suicide on April 5, 1994. To make it easy I “wikipediate” it and made a little summary, I definitively don’t know all this stuff by heart :D

Having seen Primus live a few times, I can absolutely say Les is the best bass player I've seen. The last concert of theirs that I went to, it was just them (no opening act). First half of the show was a collection of various songs. The second half, they played the entire album of "Sailing the Seas of Cheese" start to finish, in track order. "Jerry Was A Racecar Driver" is pretty much a must-hear. Les can also make a two-stringed bass absolutely sing ( he played one at that last Primus show I saw). He calls the instrument a Whamola and has a song of the same name based around it on one of his solo albums. Definitely a song to find.
I grew up in the bay area where they're from. I've seen them live more times than I can remember. They've always been extremely fun live. Loved the shows when victims family opened for them at the Warfield in San Francisco.

But then you hear John the Fisherman and DMV and Southbound Pachyderm and My name is Mud and Wynona's Big Brown Beaver and Shake Hands with Beef and Tommy the Cat....and then you go "OK, now I get it..." Les is the real deal, Hollywood. The more Primus you listen to, the greater he gets. Have fun! 🤯
Great song. In the unedited woodstock performance of this song Les plays the star spangled banner, ala Jimmy Hendrix. They cut it out rather seamlessly here for some reason

Interesting fact that people don't talk about enough regarding this band: the guitarist, Larry LaLonde, was the lead guitar player in a band called Possessed and played on their legendary album "Seven Churches." Many people regard that album as one of the founding albums in the genre of death metal. So, that guy basically invented death metal before joining Primus a few years later.
Les slaps, pops, finger and thumb picks, strums, open palm slaps, you name a bass technique he does it as well as shredding solos and having a whammy bar on a damn bass. The man is another species.
Shit, I worked with a guy who had a 40 with his Cheerio’s, a tall can on his drive to work, take a bump of crank and smoke a bowl behind the shop every morning.
Les Claypool is considered one of the greatest bass players because he broke new ground, played the bass in ways no one was playing it (or ever though to do so, or wanted to), inventing his own strange signature style of that included slapping and strumming in this staccato, plucky style that emphasized these twangy, punchy midtones rather than the traditional bass low-end, in the pocket groove. He also pioneered the role of being a bass-player-as-lead instrumentalist, filling in simultaneously in many cases as both rhythm and bass on the same instrument at the same time. He also adapted the traditional slap bass of funk and gave it a raw, punk, metal, hillbilly twist creating this strange bastard-child fusion of all of those music styles. His playing is highly unorthodox and had anyone else attempted to do what he did, they would have failed miserably. He may not be the most traditionally amazing player from a traditional bass perspective, but there was bass playing before Les Claypool, and then bass playing after Les Claypool, in the same way that were was bass playing before Larry Graham and bass playing after Larry Graham. Less Claypool opened new doors for everyone.
The Ballad of Bodacious is pretty epic but almost everything on the Antipop album is worth listening to and I *think* it’s Lacquerhead that has the jaw dropping bass lines 🎉
You should react to my name is mud from woodstock 94. The crowd started throwing mud on stage and les stopped the song and yelled at them. Told them that throwing mud is a form of small and insignificant genitalia.
for the record primus absolutely hated playing the 99 woodstock. when they played my name is mud the fans threw a bunch of mud onstage and ruined all their gear. They HATED that concert and it affected all their future live shows. Went to a few after that where they ended the show early instantly when someone threw a beer or something on stage
and they didnt just end shows early. Claypool asked the fans to find the guy that threw the beer onstage and sodomize him in the bathroom at one show i was at lmao
IMO, the best example of Les and live Primus is Tommy the Cat Live - the bass solo has been known to open portals to other dimensions.

dude's Primus - American life live is insane to watch and make my fingers hurt thinking about it
Les, Ler and Herb straight killin' it
Primus was the opening band for U2 back in the early 90's! Jerry was a Race Car Driver is great song as well!
Les slaps, pops, finger and thumb picks, strums, open palm slaps, you name a bass technique he does it as well as shredding solos and having a whammy bar on a damn bass. The man is another species.
Yes! Finally one I've suggested!
That was awesome! Loved it
Saw them at
Lollapalooza '94 in Philly. 340,000 in the crowd. Alice in Chains at the show too. Epic
Right when yall jumped into the video is when Les says yes we do. right after someone says Primus sucks haha
I was in that crowd. It was as crazy as it looks.
Les is for sure underrated! Got tickets for July! Sure hope it happens!
Mr Krinkle! Some serious stand-up base on that track.
