Fun fact: Mr. Claypool once auditioned for Metallica... James Hetfield said he was too good 😆
You’re too good. Go do your own thing. Love that story
BJ haha me too!
Les Claypool, Kirk Hammet and Gary Holt all went to high school together and have been friends for a very long time.
There's a video on youtube of Les' take on the situation, and he says while that's the words they used, what James really meant was "you're too weird for us".
Azazoth lol. A passive aggressive way of saying “This dude’s f’d up”
Trash Talkers Jerry Was A Race Car Driver.
Dog will hunt!
I agree
I hope we get a reaction video to that, I swear to god
Yes
Classic I love it! Seriously a must watch!
if you like this id suggest laqourhead by primus shows off les claypools bass skills
Also forgot to put this but everyone has heard at least one primus song as they did the theme to southpark
Yea, that is one of their best songs
That song's a banger. Love it
My name is mud is a good primus starter. Anything off sailing the seas of cheese album.
They do the theme song for South Park.
No way really....you can ded hear it now that you say it
They did the theme song for Robot Chicken too
@@kitoyobeni1 that was Les Claypool's solo band.
@@srbaran True, but Les regardless.
@@Hollywood6IX if you didn’t know what Les looked like or sounded like you never would have caught it, but once you know, you can’t miss him with his little animated bass 🤣
You need to react to Green Jellÿ - Three Little Pigs!
Hint: There’s some surprise bands members that you currently cover on Tuesdays. 🌀
Best Karaoke Song ever.
Been saying that for a few months on Tool Tuesday. And mentioned that “They” are in there. Bring it back to the days before Tool
very few people know who does the falsetto on that song.
not by the hair on my chinny chin chin! that whole album's great
@@chrisstorms7511 good ole Maynard
What I love about Primus is the fact that all of their music tests the listener, to see who’s really appreciating the music
If you aren’t able to look past the goofiness, you miss the insane instrumental dexterity that’s right in front of your face
Kinda like Zappa
Les auditioned for Metallica and he got refused because he wasn't "the right guy for the part" and he agreed. Respectfully so, because he's a different kind of being. An animal in his own sense and effervescence.
Agreed. The baseline on WBBB is insane
I saw Primus open for TOOL in Nashville. They are amazing.
Same here but I was in San Bernardino lol. It kicked ass
Dude I was so close to going to that show. I didn't even know who primus was. That concert was actually the reason I got into them
Nashville native here I was there with ya!
I saw them open for Anthrax and Public Enemy in Seattle in 91 for the first of at least 3 times! It's hard to count my memory from the mosh pit days gets kinda hazy.
Both bands are incredible. That concert sold out so quick
Check out their “John the Fisherman” video. It’s awesome.
🔥🔥🔥
Then follow with too many puppies!
one of they best
Kirk Hammet from Metallica is in it
So glad you appreciate Les Claypool’s awesome skills on the bass guitar, Smokey! I truly believe that he is the best bass player ever! You gotta watch Tommy the Cat live to watch Les play!
Rappers React to White Zombie - Electric Head Part 1 (The Agony). A psychoholic thrill ride. EDIT: And you nailed the meaning on the first try, it's about a pet beaver. \\m// Primus Sucks \\m//
Yeah, some White Zombie would be nice. I'd go with Welcome to Planet MFer though.
Primus toured with Tool four years ago and it was, hands down, the finest concert I've ever witnessed. So amazing. Saw them on Halloween in Tempe arizona at Monster Mash back in 2015. Primus is a San Francisco band. Larry LaLonde, the guitar player, is considered one of the fathers of thrash metal. Primus has some pretty serious rocket sauce, boys.
East Bay Area actually
React to Primus - Jerry Was a Race Car Driver, that is a good one
Trash Talkers Les Claypool is one of the best bass players around.
Right there in the top 5 with Steve Harris, Billy Sheehan, Jaco Pastorious, and Geddy Lee!!!
@@randywissler9923 you forgot Flea

Primus sucks! Check out southbound pachyderm by primus. Love the channel keep it up!
Primus Sucks! Tommy the Cat next please!
Baroness - Chlorine and Wine 🤘🏻💜
Primus Sucks!
Primus sucks!
Yes indeed, Primus sucks!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Primus sucks!!
Gotta do Them Damn Blue Collar Tweakers live at Woodstalk.
YES!!!!!!!
I know Primus is good because I’ve known people who didn’t like them because they don’t like “weirdness for the sake of weirdness” and I’ve also known people who didn’t like them because they don’t like “virtuosity as an end in itself” and the fact that Primus can tick these two vastly different boxes is informative and representative of the strange tone that they manage to create. It’s theatrical, goofy, and not to be taken too seriously, but they clearly have something to say about blue collar America and they say it with flair and with a groove that is all their own.
You kinda went off there but you right
Les plays with Sean Lennon ,yeah that Lennon ,son of Jonh Lennon, The Claypool Lennon Delirium ,is a crazy good project of them
That's great music, love them.
Saw those 2 play in Philly a few years ago. Didn't know any of their songs but seeing Les live was worth it
Saw them in Nashville. Great stuff.
Yusss! Amazing collab.
Les actually has said that he literally wrote it about a beaver. The innuendo is there, for sure, but he wrote it after a standoff with a beaver on a fishing trip IIRC.
Primus so good. And sucks.
Check out Tommy the Cat
Also, for less comedic lyrics, check out American Life or Southbound Pachyderm
Also Ler is just there to make weird noises on the guitar which is great
@@ryangross714 I'm always amazed at how many Primus fans have never heard American Life.
there’s really no one else you can put in a category with Primus. Les is in a special damn class all by himself 💜
Primus sucks!
I live near Les Claypool and I see him driving his truck all the time! I also play a lot of music with his business partner from seapop
Probably my favorite band ever. Their variety is staggering! They definitely have some deep songs, this is the beginning of a very entertaining....uhh.... beaver hole?
Rappers react to spiders by System of a Down. 😂
HMMMMM, tell us more
Yes! And Soil, and P.L.U.C.K!
U guys should try. SOAD. Fuck the system. On there old album
"Aerials" too!!
Just do everything by S.o.a.d. -Question- to start it off.
Just some fun info, Primus and TOOL are very connected. They toured together in 2012. It was an epic tour too. Check out more primus, outside of their “hits”. Definitely want to react to Too Many Puppy’s, Toys Go Winding Down and Frizzle Fry. Also, def need a reaction of NIN- Somewhat Damaged. Go down the NIN wormhole. It’s worth it. Research them too before doing it. There’s a lot of connections between these three bands; primus, NIN and Tool
I saw them on the Lollapalooza tour in 93......they go waaaay back
I saw them together in NC in 2016 and it was amazing
Benjamin Smith i was at that Gwinnett show!
I feel like Puscifer has a similar vibe to Primus 🤔
Frizzle fry and the toys go winding down are my favorites but Harold of the rocks too
When this song came out the speculation was that the song was about Wynona Judd. She wasn’t happy.
Hey guys I have a reaction recommendation for some: Buckethead think your mind will be blown the guy has over 300 songs but maybe react to these live, soothsayer, Jordan in culture room siege Engine or any other song or live performance the hardly strictly blue grass event footage is awesome! Once you hear nothing else really comes close.
Albums 300 albums. And soothsayer is a great place to start.
shove the leper I know 300 albums seems inconceivable for most why I worded it song instead but yes 300+albums god knows how many songs I would count but hey ho lol😅
@@VisionalHD ah got ya. And i wasn't trying to call you out or anything. This is why i hate text format. Sincerity, amusement, intent, sarcasm never show through.
shove the leper it’s okay dude I did noticed I meant albums but thought that would’ve sounded crazy but atleast you know where I’m at lol when did you join Bucketheadland?✌🏻😄
Saw him play with primus in 95 or 96 ozzfest in mansfield mass. Only wore a green jump suit and paper bag.
Ohhh yeah you guys gotta do more Primus! Tim Alexander is a great drummer, similar style to Danny Carey. And obviously Les and Ler are amazing as well.
Les Claypool is absolute legend on bass.
Check out Tommy The Cat at Bonnaroo. I watch that video a lot and it's a great performance.
Nope, they're from Cali. My lady grew up out there, and got to see them at small shows at Petaluma Theater before they were big. She even made it to a house party they played/partied at, and got to indulge in the things you indulge in at house parties with musicians along with them. I get jealous every time I hear the stories.
Primus is still active. They came out with a new album a year or 2 ago, and I saw them tour with Tool maybe 4-5 years ago. Then he has a number of other bands. Two of his main ones are his solo project band, just under his name, “Les Claypool” and his project with Sean Lennon, son of Beatles legend, John Lennon... “The Claypool Lennon Delirium”...
but one of my favorite of his projects was “Oysterhead” which comprised of him, Trey Anastasio, guitarist and singer of “Phish” and Stewart Copeland, drummer for “The Police”... sadly they only released one album in 2001... but it’s a damn amazing album!
G'day Trash Talkers!
You should check out
TWELVE FOOT NINJA - Coming For You!
yes
Les Claypool's voice is totally a stylistic choice. I do think the country theme of this song really makes that "accent" predominant. If you listen to Tommy the Cat, yes, that twang is still there..but he also sounds like an auctioneer. Look, they are just different. That's a lot of sound out of 3 people. 3 VERY talented people. It's basically a wall of sound. I completely agree with everyone requesting Tommy the Cat live at Bonaroo. Strap in for some Funk! Primus Sucks!! 👍😀
Primus is from El Sobrante, CA...near San Francisco. At least that’s where Les is from. My cousin went to high school with him. He went to De Anza High School in El Sob.
Dude! Les Claypool and everyone in that band for that matter, is INSANE! Completely fucking bonkers. Too many cards in the deck. Something
Founders of Funk
If Smokey likes slap bass he needs to check the man who literally invented invented it , bassist Larry Graham 🔥
1) Sly & Family Stone - Thank You(faletme be mice elf agiain) circa 70
2) Thank You For Talking To Me Africa (circa 71) Stretched out slowed down and even funkier version 🔥 🔥
The Trash Talkers will agree this is slappening!! Every funk artist views these as the Holy Grail. Sadly the brilliant Sly is now a drug casualty, alive but not totally sane. Quest love is currently working on a Sly Stone Doc!!!
Thank You was # 1 in 70 but on the
" Hot Soul Charts" in other words segregated to a black audience which is why was not on my our 90% of your subscribers radar as kids. It is unfortunate because this could also easily fit into a classic rock format.
This is why this comment will not get mad likes. but Trash Talkers and subscribers would 100% dig it!!!
Yes it is metaphorical for girl parts..."beaver was sick for 7 days..." that time of the month, "grabbed him by the kiwis and ain't pissed all week..." clap, etc....
This is an update to what Les is up to to date (hence update). Les is currently in cahoots with none other than John Lennon's son Sean Lennon. They go by the name of '' The Claypool/ Lennon Delirium '' . I highly recommend you wrap your heads around their sounds. It is quite unusual . ''Blood and Rockets'' is a good one to start with. OUT
I could get behind Primus Thursdays...doesn't have the same ring as Tool Tuesdays, but still...
One of my favorite Primus songs is Southbound Pachyderm. The video is great and keeps me fully intrigued. Check it out if you want to see some great talent
Check out Death from above 1979 - romantic rights. Great bass and drum two piece rock band
Primus is fun when it comes to the videos...but live, they are dark and very melodic. One of the best three man bands ever.....one of a kind! And yes, Primus sucks!
Yo bro yall should check out Ryan Upchurch nutshell or roster Alice and chains cover much love from Florida
Claypool is a big Rush fan and does a very unconventional Rush cover tune.
Another excellent 3-piece band is Ningen Isu from Japan. They have been around since '87 but have only now started to break out. They were touring in the US just before Covid-19 hit hard. These guys are amazingly talented with a lot of influences from some of the heavier 70's band.
A lot of people have been reacting to the amazing Heartless Scat. Another great one would be Color Out of Space. But the uber-heavy Namahage would be my top suggestion. All three songs have translated lyrics in the captions.
I struggle when I try to play anything by Primus and I've been playing bass for 7 years
And why is that
Because there Bass lines are so god damn good. Les is a genius when it comes to Bass
Happy bday SMOKE!!!!
Less Claypool tried out Metallica. They said no because he was so talented that they didnt want to be out played by a bass player
In case you read new comments on old videos...."The 'ol diamond back sturgeon" really show cases the guitar players talent.
Primus fuckin rules!!🤘
Primed by 29- les claypools of fungi and foe!!!!!
Primus is still together. In fact they canceled a tour because of covid. From San Francisco. Also the drummer and guitar player on par with Les skill wise.
For gods sake: Les claypool for president!!
Les got the ides for this song on a fishing trip, where saw a bever by the water.
Jerry was a race car driver is gonna blow dudes mind
Those blue collar tweekers, make sure to do the live vid!
to see how good Les REALLY is with a bass.. check out Tommy The Cat live...
The first time I heard this song I couldn't stop laughing. Shows you where my head kept going. Outrageous. I just realized, if they weren't so talented it wouldn't be as funny. Love from California.
Yo, y'all need to react to Primus American Life. Now that's a bad ass bass line
And relevant lyrics to this day
Try laquerhead by primus or to defy the laws of tradition live radio jam
Don't they do still stuff for South Park?
My name is mud!!
To my knowledge, Les has never endorsed a bass. He has always used custom basses by Carl Thompson until about 6-7 years ago when he started developing and using his own custom bass dubbed the Pachyderm bass. His most famous CT bass is his 6-string fretless called The Rainbow Bass. And they're from San Francisco.
Les Claypool is from California. Born and raised.
"Too many puppies" Is the best Primus song. Check it out.
Thats definitely a must listen for Primus. Best song not on StSoC
Tommy the Cat if you haven't already. Bass mastery.
People have already suggested the "top songs", John the Fisherman, Tommy the Cat, Jerry was a Racecar Driver, etc etc...but if I could add any, they'd be "Frizzle Fry" and "Mr Krinkle", as well as "Too Many Puppies" and "Jillys on Smack" (Live at Bonaroo is good for this one)...These are all great tracks, especially if you guys want to hear the darker (first 2 songs), more serious (2nd 2 songs) side of Primus :)
Also, the band are good friends with the guys from Tool, and you can even find some live footage of Danny Carey filling in as Primus' drummer for a few shows, one of which they played the intro to Aenima at, which sounds awesome with Claypool hammering out the bass :D
yep rare...
Getty Lee? Rush
am I right?
Do primus Jillys on smack live.
legendary
Check out some Stoned Jesus sometime
Ahh you guys gotta do Tommy the Cat
Tommy The Cat by them for that bass
Fun fact: Primus is the band for the Southpark cartoon opening song. Also Les auditioned for Metallica after Cliff Burton died. They told him he was to good for them and went on to hire Jason Newsted
Won’t lie, I wasn’t expecting such an insightful review. Won’t lie...always happy to be pleasantly surprised. Love this channel
tommy the cat is another one
Check out Les Claypool's side project "Duo de Twang" performing this song!

Death - voice of the soul
You won’t find a better or more unique bass player in rock music than Les Claypool. There had never been a bass player that played the way he does before Primus came on the scene.
I love this song and vid
how about static-X.....stingwray offical video....or push-it........or play scars on broadway...world long gone offical video
Les Claypool is absolutely amazing... You guys should check him jamming with Buckethead & Bernie Worrell... Blow your minds
Kombucha makes you burp...
My head- THE KOMBUCHA MUSHROOM PEOPLE SITTING AROUND ALL DAY!!!
Anyway LACQUER HEAD is your next video. You'll get to see the claypool march.
there's a How it was made video about this, that's pretty interesting. when they filmed them playing, because the costumes were so intrusive, they slowed playback, and filming down to half speed, so Les and Larry could get their playing right, and matched once everything was at normal speed.
Primus - My name is mud
Costumes by Billy Bryan who did "The Puttermans" Duracell commercial in 1995. The Stay-Puft Marshmallow man in Ghostbusters. And so much more.
There's one other great bass-driven 3-piece band, Morphine. The bass player sings and only uses 2 strings. Saxophone and drums.
Ps guys....the you suck joke comes from the NAME. PRIMUS IN LATIN MEANS "the best or number one" hence the joke 🍺😁😁😁
Primus videos are great, but, if you really wanna experience the musicianship
YOU HAVE to do LIVE shows/video...
Thanks for the reaction!!!!
"It Smells like 7 LAYERS :-O THAT BEAVER EATS Taco Bell !!!!! LET'S GO !!!!! **So Much Fun LIVE
Primus have plenty of serious stuff. All of antipop. Much of frizzle fry. Sgt baker, american life, bob...
Guys! If this is the only primus song you've seen, you're missing the BEST! JERRY WAS A RACECAR DRIVER, SEAS OF CHEESE TOMMY THE CAT I can go on and on... hes (a) best bass player EVER. When cliff burton of Metallica passed les tried out , and Metallica said he was TOO GOOD. check it out brother's..
Honestly anything from Mudvayne, Hellyeah, Pantera, Down, Korn, Slipknot, Volbeat, and Primus too, any song is a good one whether it's Primus and interesting or it's just a legit badass song you want to listen to a bunch.
Edit: Stone Sour, AC/DC, Godsmack, System of a Down, Sepultura, Rage against the Machine, 311, Hatebreed, Black Sabbath also
Les Claypool's Vocal style reminds me of Dave Matthews.... I can be off-putting at first, but since there is such excellent music writing and musicianship behind it, i can still dig it....I live in the South (Tennessee) and despise southern accents (I have one myself...sigh lol).....one of the reasons why i can't really get into country music. Les Clapool is up there with favorite bass players, along with Steve Harris, Flea, Geddy Lee,Geezer Butler, Peter Steele, Alex Webster and Rex Brown.
you guys should check out a song called "Lacquer head" from them... it's a track off one of their more overlooked albums "Antipop" that fucker has one of their meanest breakdowns following some funkiest of the funky funk grooves.
If anyone remembers Winamp, it had music genre "Primus" in it's presets amongs the normal "classical", "rock", "industrial" etc. :)
**edit**
Also, as a quickie, you should check out "Les Claypool - Bass Solo - Tommy the Cat" ( ua-cam.com/video/w_8NtbKsYuA/v-deo.html ).
Les? Oh, no, Les isn't from this planet.

Tommy the Cat
Jerry Was a Racecar Driver
My Name is Mud
Mr Krinkle
All awesome Primus songs. In fact, if you can recall the end of Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, the band that's on before them in the Battle of the Bands was Primus performing Tommy the Cat.
Really the wrong song to start off with Primus... Wynonas Big Brown Beaver is not really typical of their style. It’s a bit of an outlier. Best song to start with is the classic Tommy The Cat (featured in Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure)... other good beginner tracks are John The Fisherman, Jerry Was A Racecar Driver, Eleven, Too Many Puppies, My Name Is Mud, Welcome To This World (featured in Brainscan), The Air Is Getting Slippery.... Also of note, Primus do the theme song for South Park (or at least did in the beginning, I’ve not watched it in a while)...
