I would contest DK being even technically a Mario character. The game he and Mario debuted in was called Donkey Kong, so arguably Mario is the spinoff.
I mean, yeah, technically, but can you really say confidently that Mario is the spin-off when he has way more games and spin-offs of his own?
Dk and mario had the zelda and link treatment you play as someone else while the name of the game refered to the other important character in the game
That would make the paper Mario and Mario and Luigi series spinoffs of a spinoff.
@@heathertilertout of all the spin-offs you say those ones?
Donkey Kong is named after DK, but it's still a Mario game.
This is gonna sound crazy (coming from the Meta Knight stan)
But.. DDD would be the better choice for me.
Not only because Dedede was literally in the first game of the entire Kirby series alongside the pink puffball.
But also because I believe Dedede is Kirby’s DEFINITIVE rival.
Meta Knight, while being an amazing choice, I feel would be too early for the first game of the series and plus, the whole “rival thing” can work for Meta Knight but to me, Dedede does that… a lot more than Meta Knight did, since Dedede fights Kirby in EVERY game (besides Return to Dream Land) while Meta Knight, it’s once in a blue moon.
That’s just me though. (Besides this comment is WAY too long).
yeah, he also is a heavxweight and we're sorely lacking those
On top of all of that, Meta Knight is more or less the Boba Fett of the Kirby series
Yee Meta Knight is more of a rival in the sense of 'working towards the same goal' kinda deal instead of the usual rival clash that we see with Dedede
You do realize both meta knight and Dedede were in Brawl right?
@@michaelshebowich4661 what does this have to do with anything?
What do you mean by Mario characters being too angry in Smash?
Mario is very serious and angry in a lot of older renders, especially in the 2000s. Also his taunts are much different in Ultimate showing a happier side
Bowser literally had stock Godzilla roars until the DS era
I wonder what kind of butterfly effects would have taken place if Super Smash Bros hadn't released when it did. How would the video game market have been affected? How different would the world be as a result of all the friendships that never developed over Smash?
Nintendo would probably be dead. Smash is a major contender in Nintendo sales. They can't survive solely on Pokemon and while Mario and Legend of Zelda also have huge impacts, not enough to keep Nintendo from going belly up. Now that said They would be Handheld only. The console wars would be over for them but they would corner the handheld. In addition, we would probably have Nintendo pair up with Enix and make a LoZ jRPG.
Mario platformers would be released more frequently, DK, Kirby, Samus would all be rented out to Sony or Microsoft.
We would also have a bunch of shit movies.
@@GashnawMario spinoffs sell like crazy with Mario Kart being a juggernaut on its own. They have Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Donkey Kong, and Kirby as consistent heavy hitters, too.
Then there's things like Nintendogs, Brain Age, Wii Series(Sports Resort, Play, Fit), Game and Watch, etc that pulled crazy numbers most companies could only dream of.
As impactful as Smash is for fans the series was eclipsed by many other Nintendo series until Smash Ultimate(sold over 32 million bringing series to 74 million total compared to series total of 42 million prior). Pretty dramatic to say Nintendo would be dead without Smash. They would have been just fine without although lesser known series like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade would most likely have not caught on like they did.
yo that CPU was bodying Mario for so long 😭
Been a while since I played maybe I shouldn’t have set the CPU’s to 9
intresting roster, but these would be my picks with same size
[Mario] [Luigi] [Peach] [Bowser] [Yoshi]
[Donkey Kong] [Link] [Zelda] [Ganondorf] [Wario]
[Kirby] [King Dedede] [Pikachu] [Mewtwo] [Koraidon/Miraidon]
[Olimar] [Inkling] [Villager] [Samus] [Ridley]
[Byleth] [Pyra/Mythra] [R.O.B.] [Sonic] [Mii Fighter]
DLC
[Waluigi] [Meta Knight] [Pit] [Andy] [Rabbid Peach]
[Foreman Spike] [Diddy Kong] [Little Mac] [Spring Man] [Shovel Knight]
My siblings and I would joke that if Captain Falcon was introduced is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate he would be driving in the Blue Falcon for the entire duration of the fight because they need to cram in as much references to the character in their move sets as possible and can’t just get away with just giving the character generic punches and kicks.

Me and my brother love making these kinds of fan theories
The whole roster needs a redo in the next Smash game

Facts
I was just thinking about who would be in the first Smash if it was made today. You picked most everyone I expected and a few I had not considered. I look forward to your future videos.
Ness honestly makes for a great Mii Fighter since he’s a physical fighter in his own game.
It pains me that Fox and Cap aren’t playable but it’s obvious they would not be given how both franchises fell out and the move sets being a product of whims.
Pretty good video, maybe work on the pacing of your voice over, and the audio mixing with clips that introduce characters, but overall a pretty cool and unique concept, I've never actually thought about what Smash would be like if it started now
Pit being in this is kinds cap, he's not that iconic and Kid Icarus Uprising only happened after his redesign in Brawl (it was made by Sakurai himself, after all). Before that he had like two games. I'd say ROB would be a more likely NES character, since he was referenced in games like WarioWare Smooth Moves and was actually playable in Mariokart DS.
I get why Fox isn't here, but he's still much more iconic than the Kid Icarus franchise is.
My idea is that similarly to how they have a category for echo fighters, there would be a new category called "Retro Fighters." These fighters are specifically for characters who have come and gone, maybe still had a reboot or game come out a couple years ago but didn't overshine the originals. This is where I'd put characters like Little Mac, Pac-Man, Mega-man, etc.
Also I don't know why but I keep having this idea that the stock icons for characters would be in a side profile like the Persona 3 and 4 player icons.
Also having mostly different models rather then just color swaps. I'd assume they'd want a focus on bringing retro legacy characters so they could have different models for characters that look like older and newer versions of them. Like Mario having a whole Wonder skin, Odyssey, Sunshine, 64, and maybe even M&L Dream Team, with most having custom shaders. Also some echo characters will be skins but they'll have they're own voice lines, animation touches, announcer voice, etc. Basically like the Koopalings and Olimar/Alph
Echo fighters! All two of them 😂
The fact you didn't have Mr. Game & Watch in the list is a travesty. He's responsible for all of Nintendo's portable gaming. Stab Gunpei Yokoi in the back would ya? >:(

32:04 For a second I thought you were adding Bandana Waddle Dee and I got really excited.
Mr. Grizz would’ve been a better second Splatoon rep
Someone’s upset they got launched into space huh mister grizz
BRO IM 8 mins in and we have a thought process that’s SO SiMILAR! From changing Mario’s aggressive personality and changing Luigi’s weirdness to giving Link his Ocarina of Time outfit. I’m so scared to move on because we may end up having different ideas for a smash game moving forward
6:47 A suggest for a Wario moveset tweak, lean further into his Warioware fame. Maybe some of his abilities rely on quicktime action, or the Warioware stages resemble microgames.
So like, it can either lead to a mash, twist, or touch.
Mash is more typical.
Twist shakes the screen side to side, swerving alongside the microgame.
Touch is like the flyswatter.
Also, agreed about Smash needing some stage variety- as a partial Sonic main (more a "Sega Main" between him, Bayo, and Joker), that's my biggest issue with him.
Gaiden is quite literally the second fe game
There is an alternate universe where people are saying, "it would be so cool if Nintendo made a fighting game where you can play as a bunch of their characters from any game"
Edit: I also don't think that today the miis would be added, since they were definitely tacked on in brawl because of the wii and stayed because of the wiiu, then ultimate's "everyone is here" thing.
Edit: apparently miis weren't in brawl, but honestly I still think the point stands of them being tacked on because it was a feature of the console.
...the miis weren't in Brawl tough
@@videogamesleague629 really? Wow, I just assumed that they were since it was the wii game. I hadn't played brawl when I typed this comment but I think I bought it later that day, since then I haven't really played it much and I didn't realize that miis were missing
Commenting so UA-cam recommends this to more people 🔥
True!
🗣🔥🔥
Good vid. Imma subscribe.
Needs way more views, way more likes and way more subscribers than this, this video is awesome.
If Smash would be made today I don’t see them choosing Robin to represent Fire Emblem, they’d choose a Three Houses character considering it’s the most popular game. Either Byleth or one of the house leaders.
the dedede thing is LIES, dedede is also a form of "anti-hero", he has had so much character growth through the games
They'd have more gimmicks and more projectiles
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 fire video brother keep it up hell yes! 🤠🤠🤠🤠
Oh cool nice one on having a real ass microphone!
Yes, Fire emblem Engage is a mainline game, I would add Alear with the Ring mechanic. The rings could represent different characters without adding more fighters of the series.
Interesting idea, but I don't quite get why Palentena and Pit were picks over something else. I feel like something like a Pokemon Trainer (with Scorbunny, Sobble, Groki) and like Altier from FE, heck maybe even Riddly. Or if you really wanted a different series than additions to those, then something like Olimer or something. Like I get the omissions of Star Fox, FZero, Earthbound, etc - but I feel like Kid Icarus would fall in that same vein. Especially if we are reaching with Duck Hunt. Since with the N64 (when Smash started), FZero, Star Fox were more prominent franchises - each had hits on the N64 and very solid originals on the SNES. So to me Olimar fits more with all 4 games on the Switch. Especially if we are talking base game picks. I think this angle wasn't taken fully at this perspective. You have to consider if limitations like numbers are in place, that the base game likely wouldn't have a "surprise pick" as that didn't start until Melee - which is the second Smash game where random stuff like Ice Climbers came up, not the original. So with 3/25 not really fitting with "all recent/popular picks". So the "random pick" of Ring Fit Adventurer makes more the "surprise" angle, and not some characters that hasn't had a game in a decade. Despite the easter egg in the Mario movie, I don't think that validates their pick. Nothing against Pit as I do like them in Smash, just going at this from the critical angle. They'd work easily as initial DLC where "forgotten" characters can be explored. But I'd think an initial base game would have 25 characters that have a game from their series on Switch (or multiple), and still have the legacy of the NES-Wii U/3DS behind them.
I've thought about this concept a lot and I'm so glad someone finally made a video about it! Smash Bros debuting today could be so different. I think the most interesting thing is that TPCI is so picky about the way Pokemon is represented now (the lack of amiibo support for example), I could honestly see a world where it doesn't get into Smash because of that.
I really want to see that video you brought up making
NO ROB?
🤨
you tricked me I thought you were gonna choose rob out of everyone
If Super Smash Bros started today, they wouldn’t allow only Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser to be playable; granted Mario characters have become extremely popular, so they probably would add Daisy, Toad and maybe Bowser Jr. too (or at least one of them)
Neither of the DK stages are a jungle?
25:25 Long stretch of nothing
42:40 and 43:34 Outakes left in
Sonic, Mega man and Pac-Man: well I guess we’re not important
Waluigi: …
All of them: we all got beaten, to RING FIT TRAINER
They are very important. But since in this timeline, smash started today, we wouldn't get any 3rds until a future installment.
Not sure about pit since kid icarus uprising would not have existed without super smash bros brawl. Still decent list and this is just for fun anyway.
This seems really creative
The insistence that Donkey Kong isn't a sperate series from Mario is incredibly bizarre
I didn’t mean that they’re not seperate series I mostly meant that if Smash was made today everyone would think of Mario and Donkey Kong as being part of the same series, the average person would probably think of Donkey Kong as a Mario character first and foremost
@@kirbyinhalesjotaro4471 I was going to respond to this by saying they never show up in each other's games, but I was forgetting about all the spin offs
@@kirbyinhalesjotaro4471The Donkey Kong Country games were fairly popular even before Smash 64 came out. With DK 64(few months after Smash 64 release) the series was around 20 million. It had more than proven itself to be its own thing.
I hope you redo this video one day
greninja out. pokemon trainer with rowlet, brionne, and incineroar in (it makes sense because they're doing the thing they did to charizard but to incineroar)
Great video and i agree with your picks honestly. As a Pit main im happy
For me king DDD definitely should’ve been in this video and yes he is my main if Kirby’s in the game he should be in the game as well. It’s only right and it’s only fitting but great overall.
Did you..uh...finish the video?
@@elisevanbeethoven Obviously, I finish the video. If I didn’t finish the video why would I comment that makes no sense
@@elisevanbeethoven Who comments on a video and doesn’t watch the full video that makes no sense whatsoever. I’m not one of those people. I watch the videos all the way through and then If I feel like leaving a comment, I will
@@DemonAngels7 If you finished the video you'd know that Dedede was in it dumbarse
I still think Olimar should’ve been in the base game. Yeah, Pikmin isn’t huge but it’s still more relevant than a couple other fighters in the base roster, especially with the entire mainline franchise getting semi revived on the switch
If there was going to only be one Fire Emblem character they should be from Awakening for sure. But I think it's pretty wild to have only one when there are 16 games and even in this timeline 10 of them are available in the West.
But I couldn't really see you cutting anything else either in Pokemon definitely deserves three
I personally think it should be Three Houses, but maybe that's just me
what... no Marth? You put Robin and Byleth but not Marth? Come on, he's like the main guy in the series, and I don't even play Fire Emblem
This is a pretty neat list. I’d like to share changes I would personally make. For the Pokémon reps, I’d say it’s Pikachu, Lucario, and Greninja, base roster no dlc. Mainly cause I’d rather see more Pokémon from different games, and not 2 Gen 1 reps, and those are 2 of the most popular non Gen 1 Pokémon. Plus, I don’t feel like MewTwo is all that popular anymore, nowadays he’s just seen as another legendary Pokémon. I would not include Duck Hunt and I’d say Olimar is base roster. I’d say Shulk is the base roster Xenoblade rep with Future Redeemed Rex as DLC (to represent 2 & 3) and I would probably not include Isabelle or the Squid Sisters, and I’d replace them with Waluigi (so Wario won’t be alone), and Impa from Zelda (as she’s appeared in multiple games). Maybe I’d change Rosalina cause that feels like a bit too much Mario, but I don’t know who to replace her with. The rest I think are all solid picks. I also wanted to add some better reasonings for Robin and Byleth’s inclusion. Robin since Awakening was the game that saved the series, and Byleth since Three Houses is the best selling. Byleth would also keep his same move set to represent the weapon triangle in FE, especially since he can wield Swords/Lances/Axes at the same time in his game.
I would suggest either greninja or decidueye for Pokémon instead of bewear just because they would be much more inconic as more recent Pokémon.
I would also get rid of duck hunt as a series left on the NES is somewhat redundant in the current era of Nintendo and that slot could be better used to give another series more representation for example having Isabelle as more animal crossing representation due to the series being so popular or having another Metroid character such as Sylux or Ridley to bring more hype to Metroid Prime 4.
I might also consider just for the sake of characters with more personality rather than just a player avatar character having Isabelle as the the pick for animal crossing with Tom Nook added if the series got a second fighter.
I would consider DDD as the better pick for Kirby as I believe DDD has had the greater impact.
I would consider getting rid of Yoshi in favour of more DK representation through diddy kong as DK is considered the most separate to Mario or possibly Bowser Jr. because while Mario does of course have a lot of representation in this roster I think that Bowser Jr. is a great character as he is heavily promoted, for example through Mario Wonder and Bowser's fury and has been used significantly throughout the Mario series and has the potential for unique move set through the clown cart and can bring more villains into the roster.
I like that Smash Bros feels like a videogame museum that allows people to be introduced everything from niche franchises to... honestly dead franchises
The title became outdated the next day lol
I also did call it “Super Smash Bros (2024)” when the video actually released in 2023 haha
I disagree with villager, in the modern day they would pick Isabelle
Edit: fair but I still think that Isabelle would be in first
Can't believe you didn't include Mario! He's literally the biggest Nintendo character ever after Geno, wtffff
If it came out today the game would die in like a year lmao
I think if Smash were being made today, they would've gotten more creative with consolidating characters into franchises to represent as much as possible, without using up as much dev time. I was originally just thinking about this for Link, but I realized it'd work pretty well to rep some other characters too.
Introducing: Loadouts. Basically a way to copy movesets across characters who are commonly interchangeable playable options in their games, while adding unique clone-like properties and tuning.
The Mario series would have a "Loadout" option between Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad. Basically they'd have similar stats to the games (like jump height, weight, speed, etc.) and each have some unique aspect, like Luigi using his vacuum to grab, Peach floating, etc. But all of their movesets would use the same power-ups from the Mario series. The rest of the Mario series characters, Bowser, Yoshi, and Wario would have their own movesets.
The Zelda series would just have Link having a few loadouts, representing a few games. One loadout would have his original bombs and hookshot, a BotW one would have remote bombs and a regular grab, etc. But his properties otherwise would be the same.
For the DK series, you'd play as DK and then choose a buddy to ride on his back like in the modern DKC games. Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky, which change how his recovery works and each give him a different projectile.
For Kirby, you'd have Kirby and Dedede as unique characters, but Kirby's loadouts would each be based on a copy ability. Inhale wouldn't be part of his moveset, so could make Meta Knight and Bandana Dee alt skins for his Sword and Spear loadouts without much issue.
Just some ideas for how Nintendo might choose to do it in order to incorporate modern mechanics and include as many characters as possible without them all needing completely unique movesets.
Your editing got messed up near the assist trophy part
You’re right thank you for telling me! I don’t have access to the original audio I used there so I just cut out a part of it so there’s a bit less awkward silence there now haha.
I really like your ideas! The idea of Bokoblin being an actual fighting is such an interesting concept! Really fun video, overall! :D
Hey, remember that one comment war you started in a vegan teacher video, yeah me too
That was like years ago but yes I remember lol
Hey bro nice video concept but as an advice, you should make the intro a little shorter and get to the subject of the video faster. It would makes it way more enjoyable!
27:35, so you're saying that you could summon 4 NPCs, all using pk fire? sounds like a casual players nightmare .
I think there's a better way to handle Zelda characters.
For Link, he could have 4 different versions of himself be the alternate skins. He would have 2 be Totk Link, 2 be OOT Link, 2 be TP Link, and 2 be SS Link. And he would have a new moveset, using items from as many Zelda games as possible.
For Zelda, she could have 3 different character alts. 3 of them could be ALBW Zelda, 3 of them could be TOTK Zelda, and 2 of them could be TP Zelda.
For Ganondorf, he could have 4 different character alts. 2 would be OOT Ganondorf, 2 would be TOTK Ganondorf, 2 be TP Ganondorf, and 2 be WW Ganondorf.
That way many more Zelda games are represented.
What if Smash was a shitty game
1:27 what does this say about
If it was added recently, Sora's addition would've had much less impact
10:16 Haven't watched the rest of the video yet, but imo Beware is probably not even in top 50 pokemon they would add if they had 1 more slot. Specifically Charizard or Greninja come to mind, because Charizard is arguably more recognizable than mewtwo, and Greninja was voted as the most popular pokemon, or I could also have seen them including a Gen 9 mon for those being the newest games. In terms of big heavy grapplers, Incineroar sounds like the most obvious choice for that by a long shot, not even just because it's already in smash but also because it was quite important in the anime and made to be a fighter, however Grapploct would've been a more interesting choice imo because it allows for a more unique moveset as compared to Beware who would just be punching and maybe kicking. I mean, Grapploct's signature move involves it grabbing the target for multiple turns.
Grapploct seems like a really interesting one actually, I’m not really the biggest fan of Pokemon and I haven’t even heard of them before but they do seem like they could be cool. Me choosing Bewear was kinda just a personal thing I just like their design and think they could be interesting but I 100% think those options you picked would be considered first though.
dude, get your mouth away from the mic, your ps pop so much they hurt my ears 😭😭😭
Yeah. Im so much wishing a reboot, your vid is so cool
This was bad because it felt you didn't edit your video. I'm pretty sure you also didn't have a script which is why this felt so off the cuff and had all this pauses. I'm watching this at 2x speed so you probably sound worse given I'm making the pauses shorter. Edit your videos.
I can assure you I did have a script. Have no idea what you mean by “not editing” though there’s no way someone can make a video like this and just… not edit. I do kind of see where you’re coming from though I like recording in a way that sounds like how I would actually talk and edit in a looser way (such as showing one long take rather than cutting between lots of others) so I can understand not liking that but I just don’t really get the criticism that much
@kirbyinhalesjotaro4471 if you edited this video why did you leave all the stutters and pauses in your video?
Jotaro for smash
25:25 what happened there?

1. Please cut out your outtakes.
2. The full songs can easily be found on UA-cam. Why do you keep using the cut-off Smash 4 theme?
3. There are several moments in this video where there is just music or silence. Please cut this down next time you make a video. Your editing is choppy and unprofessional.
He has like 300 subs chill out. You could of said this nicer
“unprofessional” its almost like I’m not a professional huh
Seriously though I appreciate your criticism and somewhat agree even if I am still proud of the video. If I had known this thing would become as popular as it had I would have definitely spent a bit more time working on it (there also were some technical difficulties with the making of this video) but I still understand why its frustrating to see those errors in the video
