Yeah the Walmart near me had 3DS games marked down to $10-$20. They also had a mistake with marking Wii U games down to 25 cents when they were supposed to be $25. I got a few games before they changed the price
I think it’s so strange that I was apart of a generation that was very into the 3DS in 2012 when we were all around college age, but then there is a whole generation of people who were into the 3DS as little kids in 2018 when their parents were buying them the cheaper Nintendo console and used games.

Ever Oasis was rotting on a nearby used game store's shelf for several months and every time I went there I considered picking it up purely because the art on the cover is gorgeous, I finally bit the bullet and bought it without knowing anything about the game eventually and it is really good, I was so happy to see there were Ever Oasis spirits in Smash Ultimate because it's so rare to see the game even acknowledged by people Also I remember being so pissed off when everyone wanted the 3DS to perish when the Switch launched because I simply didn't have 300 bucks to blow on a new console and so I was very happy to get more 3DS content. So there was an install base on the 3DS: poor kids! I get the frustration tho.
@@AmethystLeslie I mean it has 3ds, graphics and gameplay standard, but is a mashup of Zelda and animal crossing, it's pretty dope, I remember dungeons being fine. Combat is alright, story is standard, but for me it was a good cozy chill expirience
@@diegov1743 I bought them used, and 15-25 bucks every few months is a lot easier to handle for the wallet than 300 bucks + 50/60 for a game with the Switch
I'm impressed with how well Mercury Steam evolved Metroid on their first attempt. All they needed to do in Dread was just do some fine-tuning because Samus Returns was already an incredibly solid foundation.
@ausgod538 True, but the Nintendo employees on the project were largely in overhead roles (director/producer). Certainly important and high-impact positions, but all the programming and other grunt work was done by the Mercury Steam developers.
Are you kidding me? Samus Returns was very mediocre by Metroid standards, not to mention all the Metroid-likes that popped up in its absence. It wasn't even as good as AM2R. Their level design was even poorer in Dread since they didn't have an existing one they had to adhere to. The only thing they improved was the action elements of Metroid, and that's only if you're preferential to Metroid being an action platformer more than anything else. The art direction in both games pale to the 2D ones, and both of em hardly have any memorable music.
@lordofdoosh Nobody expected it to be as good as AM2R. That was a 10-year project made by some incredibly passionate fans. Money was not the incentive, but love and art for its own sake. Nothing can compare to that. If Samus Returns tried to copy AM2R, it would just be worse by default. Going in a different, more action-focused route was the right call because it made the game stand out more. And for what it's worth, the atmosphere and exploration in Samus Returns was still great, even if the level design could use some work. I think Dread actually improved on basically everything except music. The combat was faster and crunchier, the visuals are obviously better (no match for 2D sprites, but about as good as you could get with the 2.5D approach), and the level design feels more meticulously planned to accommodate both 100% runs and speedruns. Not perfect, but about as perfect as it could reasonably be without just copying Super Metroid.
I don’t think they thought Bowser’s inside story was going to save their company. I think they knew the writing was on the wall, figured out what they had for a budget and picked something within that scope just so that all the employees who worked for that devoloper had the opportunity to continue to make money while looking for other jobs and such. It was probably a great thing for a lot of low level employees.
For what's worth, Echoes: Shadows of Valentia did go on to sell 1M and become the 5th best selling Fire Emblem as of this post, so it ended up faring quite well compared to other 3DS games that came out during the Switch era not named Pokemon (rip Mario & Luigi DX 1 + 3).
Scott and Ant didn't touch on it, but Dragon Quest 8 on 3DS is the best version of the game. It includes a lot of quality-of-life improvements, as well as brand-new content including two additional party members. The only thing it's missing is the orchestral soundtrack from the PS2 original, but that was out of Square Enix's control.
Man, hearing the eshop music in the background has me feeling nostalgic. I miss scrolling through the shop on my 3ds listening to this lovely theme. I’ll never understand why Nintendo got rid of it on Switch.
@@SodlidDesuIt's actually ridiculous how bad the loading times are. The page just pauseds for a good 5-10 seconds when you scroll down past a dozen games. It's so bad I thought there was something wrong with my switch when I first got it. I've heard it's because it's not an actual app, but it opens up a webpage which makes no sense to me. Why the hell would Nintendo do that when they can simply make an eShop app?
Even after our family got a Switch, my main handheld was still the 3DS because my brother and I shared the Switch, so it didn't feel right for one of us to be hogging it. Which led to my embarrassingly high playtime of Miitopia.
I just played my 3DS last night, still a great experience (I have the XL model, I have to admit on the original the screen is just too small). There are so many games I've missed on due to lack of money back then, so I'll probably still be playing it for a good while.
Me who would alternate between Splatoon 2 and Pokémon Ultra Moon in 2018, with the occasional PuyoTet. I just had a really good time with Ultra Moon, even if my 1000 hours were mostly spent just breeding and Wonder Trading Pokemon.
I admit that the New 2DS XL does feel a bit lighter and the hinge isn’t great, but the fact that they *finally* recessed the touch screen into the system is what made me get it earlier this year. Every other 3DS I own has marks from the raised portions/bezel of the touch screen from years of opening and closing and it drove me _bonkers_
35:47 this is that comment. But in all seriousness yo-Kai watch is really fun, it’s obviously not for everyone but it’s really well designed and disregarding it as ‘all the people who liked it played it when they were 7’ like you could say that about almost every Nintendo series. Cough Cough Kirby Also I have a physical copy of yo-Kai watch 3 and I’m still shocked at that fact
10:46 Genuinely super happy you guys brought up Fire Emblem: Echoes Shadows of Valentia. It's one of my favorite games of all time and the localization is absolutely phenomenal. The way the characters talk is just... incredible. I don't know if they had an old English dictionary or WHAT but it amazes me every time I boot it up.
I would definitely recommend giving yo kai watch 2 a fair shot. You don't really need to have played the first in order to follow the story and the battle system is improved and has added elements. Yo kai watch does a great job of playing very differently from pokemon and is full of charm and polish.
34:36 I was *the* yo-kai watch person back when the anime was still airing in English. I owned the toy watches, the card game, always asked for medals, owned Yo-Kai Watch 2 Bony Spirits (never really played it), had the medallions, watched the show, had the Yo-kai version of the game of life, believed yo-kai were real, etc. I was the biggest yo-kai person you'd ever see. I even saw the movie in theaters at that one-time event. So, Antdude, Yo-Kai fans do exist. One of them is me. Also, watch Ant's videos.
@@maria_sillyThank you. Yeah sadly it didn't do well in the west compared to Japan but their is youtubers, others trying out the games especially some from the Pokemon community they have actually said the game is really good and wished they gave the games a chance; I am glad they did. The games are really good and so is the anime in my opinion.
I love the 3DS. I wasn’t ready to see it go when the Switch came out, and I’m still not ready. 12 years after release and I still carry my 3DS in my pocket at all times.
I agree. I don't travel with my Switch and in fact am on a trip with my 3DS right now and am playing Radiant Historia, one of those "late releases no one bought." I do think Atlus did a better job supporting the 3DS toward the end than Nintendo themselves. But I got to say, these two sound like grumpy old men grumbling about how everything is stupid, while I (who am legitimately becoming an old man) keep thinking, "But I like that!"
i never got a 3ds till 2022 and honestly i'm surprised i never jumped on this system sooner. it has a FANTASTIC library and it's so easy to just shove in a bag and play on my commute. i've since bought a new 2ds xl as well and convinced basically everyone i know to buy secondhand 2ds systems. there are times i play it more than my switch honestly.
Scott sounding excited for Yo-Kai Watch discussion, and then him revealing it was a bit got me kinda sad. I was the exact kid they were talking about in the video, sure, but I still think non-fans will enjoy 1 and 2 ESPECIALLY a whole ton. If anyone who hasn’t played any of the games sees this, I highly recommend them! The fourth game isn’t localized in the U.S. but with enough people hoping for it, maybe it could happen!!
Yeah, I do not understand them. I've imported Yokai Watch 2 from Australia to play it early in Europe and thought it was super charming. Like a very adorable little almost-Earthbound-y game mixed with casual monster meeting and collecting in very cute primary school life. Had way more enjoyment playing that for the first time than Pokémon Black/White. And there's no "I was a kid" excuse for Yokai Watch 2, I was 17 when I've played that. It's just a nice game.
because it's just a very Japan-specific take on Pokémon. I'm sure it's fine but unless you're a big fan of monster collecting games I don't see the appeal @@ABlob
@@pokemonduck I just said that I had more fun with Yo-Kai Watch 2 than what's known as one of the best mainline Pokémon games, I'm definitely NOT a big fan of monster collecting games. My most favorite Pokémon game is Mystery Dungeon Sky, which isn't about monster collecting even. ^^' I like everything that's not that in Yo-Kai Watch instead. So characters, the settings (ordinary town locations everywhere unlike Pokémon), the music, very easy battling, it's cute that you earn pennies at a time from battles, even the bug collecting you can do at trees is charming. Very down-to-earth for most of it. I'd more so say that if you like Attack of the Friday Monsters or Boku no Natsuyasumi games, and like the idea of Pokémon but couldn't get into it because of the gameplay, you'd probably like Yo-Kai Watch.
@@pokemonduck nah, Yo-Kai Watch is WAYYY different than Pokémon. It’s like calling Sonic the speed running take on Mario, or SMT the M rated take on Pokémon, just for being in the same genre. The issue is the stigma that it’s meant to replace or be like Pokémon
@@ABlob I agree for the most part. I get not liking Yo-Kai Watch, especially for someone like Scott who doesn’t like many RPGs, but glossing over it and acting like it’s a nothing game is ignoring so much charm the games have
Echoes was the last game I bought on my 3DS. Such an amazing title. Probably my favorite Fire Emblem now that I think about it. I told myself I was done with the handheld but I couldn't skip it.
I started playing Pokemon and Yokai Watch in my 20s and enjoyed them, I never had a DS/3DS growing up. They're great games for those of us who like more simple/less stressful RPGs (I liked Miitopia too).
Once the switch dropped and the last pokemon came to 3ds, it was like watching age slowly take a friend away and you finally having to pull the plug. I still remember the good times with it at least. It kept me happy when very few other things did.
It added so many quality of life features for hunting pokemon and abilities. I wish those stayed tbh. And the base building should have become a main stay, who doesn't wanna be a gym leader? @@HandheldGamer1991
Pulling life support? Dude, I play on my 3DS so much I had to replace the battery because it was dying earlier than intended. I'm still playing my 3DS. Considering getting a battery replacement for my 2DS as well. I'll admit that once the Bank support goes down, I'll play it *less* since a lot of my playtime is Pokemon and if I can't migrate anything forward I'll mostly be messing around with randomizers and just having fun with the games in a more basic and limited capacity, but even then I've got a ton of games on the system I still enjoy playing, not least of which is Dragon Ball Fusions. As well as all of the DS (and GBA games I can play on it since it's softmodded). I don't hate the Switch Pokemon games, I thought Scarlet/Violet were pretty good, but I wouldn't even have to think about it if you asked me if I'd sacrifice all of the Switch era Pokemon games for the pre-Switch Pokemon games. Yes, a hundred times yes. They are all infinitely better.
Honestly I really liked some of the games that came out. Samus Returns, Pokemon Crystal VC, FE Echoes, etc. The 3DS was a really special system for me and I’m happy it lasted so long
The late 3DS era is full of great games. I actually have many games released during this period and they're some of the best of the platforms. There were even some leaks abot other ports and remakes in development, which were canceled after Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story poor sales
Fun fact: on the same day Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World was released, the Wii U game got a free update so that the Poochy amiibo can be used during levels to make Poochy appear.
I'll gladly be "that guy" in the comments coming to defend Yokai Watch. And Antdude will be surprised to know I was not 7 when playing. I'm an OLD Pokemon fan, and I was getting sick of the repetitiveness the franchise was already starting to suffer from. So I jumped on with Yokai Watch 3, cuz I researched how the western release is a special version with all the content from it's different versions; so much content I couldn't even 100% it cuz I'd gotten my fill before hitting that point. I love alot of the designs and the switch ups they throw at you to keep gameplay fresh. I think the mindset you need to actually enjoy these titles is that IT IS NOT pretending to be Pokemon, the story plays out like an episodic anime, and they make battles play like micro-managing minigames as the monsters do the fighting for you. I've played alot of different monster collecting games over the years and I'd say Yokai Watch is a standout. But maybe my entire opinion is invalid cuz I found TemTem uninteresting.
As weird as this may sound i think 2017 was my favorite year for the 3ds, you had -Miitopia -Fire Emblem echoes -Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon -Metriod samus returns -Poochy and Yoshis Wooly World -Monster hunter stories -Hey Pikmin (i thought that game was fine)
Shame Ultra Sun and Moon sucked and it's arguably the worst third version in pokemon history. Didn't fixed any of the major pacing issues, the sheer amount of handholding (21 years into the franchise and you make a game this handholdy, specially after how handholdy the previous version was) and in fact it made the story worse by making Lusamine worse (it even removed that weird Nihilego fusion). Rainbow Rocket was just lame, a great concept completely squandered of its potential by being like an hour long and you don't even get to visit any of the worlds where the evil teams won so that you can see how it is there.
@@jspantonio8807Hardly means anything when the series went downhill when it went 3D. I couldn't even finish Sun because even by the last portion of the game i felt i was still stuck in tutorial land.
Yo Kai Watch is one of my favorite series and let me explain why. I played the original game when I was young and loved it. The second game released and it was ok but I stopped caring at that point. Years later in like 2020 I was feeling nostalgic for the series and I learned the third game released on the 3DS... I then proceeded to have one of the most engrossing and astonishingly loaded gaming experiences ever. Yo Kai Watch 3 is a game I swear by and it is a true travesty that no one played it. The series is underrated and I want it back.
I remember 2017-2019 fondly as that was when Yo-Kai Watch 2 Psychic Specters, YW Blasters and YW3 released. It’s a shame those games didn’t get localized until the end of the 3DS’s life as those games are really solid in my opinion. Too bad the only way to experience them now (if you don’t own them already) is either emulation or paying a small fortune for physical copies.
Blasters was the last game i bought from the 3DS eshop before that closed down. I thought that was going to be the only way i would play it It was okay but i prefer the mainline games.
I really like Nintendo releasing more games for the 3DS for a while longer even after the Switch launch more or less like Sony did with the PS4 after the PS5. I didn't have the money to buy a Switch, so my 3DS was my main Nintendo platform at the time and the main medium I had to play the new games, so I'm very grateful that some new games were released for it even if they didn't sell so good. I'm really rooting for the Switch to follow suit, I don't want to see it discontinued right after the Switch 2 launches.
Switch should die after the 2nd one releases or it will endup like the xbox series s and x where the games are always worse so the inferior system can run it
my theory is that we’ll get more gamecube/wii remasters and the dark moon port is gonna start a trend of 3ds ports, while new triple a nintendo games will be switch 2 exclusive
even if you had the money, for the first couple of years there was a shortage of systems because they sold too well. So Nintendo tried making games for anyone who couldn't get hold of a switch. Sure they probably went about a year too long on that but still they were thinking of giving those on smaller budgets an option.
The New 2DS XL definetly felt like a Switch Lite before the actual Switch Lite. Toad Treasure Tracker, Fire Emblem Warriors and Sushi Strikers released on both platforms at the same time. And it got many Nintendo games even after the switch's launch.
As a Yo-kai Watch guy, I can assure you that they exist. I first played it in middle school, but I still play Yo-kai Watch 2 every couple of months, and I consider it one of the most influential games thats i have ever played.
I am totally scott in this scenario. Ive always held off buying brand new games and systems. My 3DS could entertain me until I die (especially now that i finally put CFW on it). I remember going to gamestop and browsing through their super light stock of DS & 3DS games and then purchasing one and the gamestop guy trying to heavily sell me on upgrading to a switch and I was just like nahhh im good i love my 3DS. Not a graphics snob at all and i mostly play strategy games. Finally got a switch late 2020 and started catching up on everything i missed.
Talking shit about Yokai Watch 3 having not played it directly into "Kirby's epic yarn is a PHENOMENAL game" is absolutely sending me, never change kings
I’m a huge Yo-kai Watch fan so it’s a shame you guys couldn’t get into. I didn’t grow up with it, I just really enjoyed when I played it and I loved the rest of the games in the series.
To be fair, Nintendo consoles are surprisingly easy to mod/hack in general. The community is just so passionate they will like immediately hunt to find another exploit once Nintendo patches one. (I know you have to "mod" current Switches to hack them, but it's still not that hard)
Great video! And what a fun piece of gaming history to look at. Thank you! I know you mentioned Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology at the end, but both of you should definitely take a closer look at that game. It's one of the best RPGs ever made!
Did either of you guys read Reggie's book "Disrupting the Game"? He goes very deeply into how his marketing put Nintendo at the top during the DS/Wii days, helped them chug along in the Wii U days, and then come back out roaring with the Switch.
I haven’t touched Nintendo since I got an Xbox in like 2010. Bought a Switch 2 years ago and a New 3DS XL last year. I’m drowning in amazing exclusives, I love it so much.
The NX/year 1 era as a pokemon fan was always a core memory because pokemon fans were VERY vocal about pokemon NOT moving to switch because "pokemon is a handheld series" and apparently the switch is not it. Until like E3 2017 announced pokemon is coming to switch and closing the argument forever
Wow. Hot take AntDude! I freaking love Ultra Sun. I also loved Sun. I’m shocked to hear you say you hate it. Honestly, Pokémon has been pretty downhill since for me.
FE: SoV was an amazing time. I also didn't expect Radiant Historia PC to become my favourite to ever hit the system. Was nice to catch having missed the DS original.
The 2DS was $50-$60 at Toys R Us which is insane and I regret not getting one. I played my 3DS until 2022 when I finally bought a Switch. The 3DS/2DS system still has a ton more original Nintendo content than the Switch will ever have.
Kirby planet robobot was probably the best Kirby game in a very long time. I got it for Father’s Day and was expecting a generic Kirby experience but boy was I wrong. Bravely Default was great too and made me a fan of the series. Glad I got to experience dragon quest vii too since I missed it back in the ps1 era.
why does everyone get so excited by Scott mentioning yo-kai watch? Clearly he and Antdude haven't played anything past the first game and they don't even like it.
Noticing a theme here… Bad game came out on 3DS: “Why didn’t they just launch a better version of this game on the switch?” Good game came out on the 3DS: “Why didn’t Nintendo port this to the switch?!” This is the definition of a Zero-Sum game and this is why people were mad back in the day. The bias was in favoring the existence of the switch over giving the 3DS and its games the credit it deserved.
I played Yokai Watch 1 the year it came out so I was 15 and loved it, 3 being the best in the series imo which sadly sucks cuz like a week after it came out it was already $100. It definitely helps if you do actually like Monster Collectors for sure, but it was a great series for people falling out of Pokemon at the time AKA me even tho I really liked Sun and Moon
I'll be honest, the reason *_I_* got into Yo-kai Watch stems from that fateful day when I realized that mainline Pokémon games were going downhill but also that I needed *_something_* to hyperfixate on before November 2019 would come and I'd finally have the opportunity to buy my own Nintendo Switch and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. 36:30 Funny you should say that, Ant - Scarlet/Violet got two of my friends *_out of_* Pokémon (at least the mainline games) as it made them more privy to the likelihood that The Pokémon Company cares more about merchandise sales than about the quality of the games, and I myself am *_still_* waiting for the day it becomes stable, like a kid in the back of the car during a road trip repeatedly asking, "Are we there yet?" And the answer is no, Scarlet/Violet is *_not_* there yet, and it might *_never_* be there ever, so my chances of buying and subsequently playing it are significantly lower than with any mainline Pokémon game prior. If anything, the absolute state of Scarlet/Violet got me to try out *_more_* monster-taming games that aren't Pokémon, and so should You, The Person Reading This Comment Right Now.
i agree so much with this comment. i started playing yokai watch because i was also feeling upset with the way pokemon was going. yokai watch is just so much better handled than pokemon imo, and i have been a pokemon enjoyer for my entire life and only picked up a yokai watch game last year. its so sad that all the other yokai watch games are always just assumed to be like yokai watch 1 when that is easily the worst game in the series. theres a reason why yokai watch 3 is so high in price. yes, it was a limited release, but its also probably the best game on the whole system. i also feel like yokai watch encapsulates that childishness of being 10-13 better than pokemon ever has. anyone seeing this reply that is disappointed in the state of pokemon right now, please give yokai watch a shot. yokai watch 2: psychic specters is the best version of ykw2 but fleshy souls and bony spirits may be a bit more accessible at the moment, and if you can get your hands on it (or are willing to sail the high seas for it) yokai watch 3 is probably the best game in the whole series.
I'm fortunate to have all the Yo-kai watch games, except Red Cat Corp. I've only played the first one, but the game made me feel like a kid again, and I look forward to playing the rest. Nintendo needs to release a collection on the Switch, and make these games more accessible to the masses.
@@MTG69 there was a remake of the first game and a whole new game made for the switch, but they're japan exclusive due to level5 leaving the western market because they went bankrupt. however, with the new fantasy life and professor layton games coming out worldwide, i have a glimmer of hope that yokai watch will return to everywhere thats not japan soon.
@@timedyneAnother, more recent monster-taming game that goes hard is Casette Beasts; I played it, did pretty much everything there is to do until the upcoming multiplayer update and Pier of the Unknown DLC drop, and now it's one of my all-time favorites in the genre, if not my absolute all-time favorite monster-taming game.
27:48 yep this is pretty much exactly it. By the last year or so of the 3DS’s life, they were literally only shipping 2DS and New 2DS XL units in North America.
Hm, you can tell whenever someone played Super Mario Maker 3DS for playing levels vs making levels just based on if they liked it or not. If you pick the game up for making levels, you'd have probably hated it because they've locked everything behind the badly made Nintendo story levels. And then you can only share created levels via multi-cartridge sharing. But that's not a problem for someone who would just want to play levels, because online levels were still a thing on that version.
When i discovered this channel, i thought it would be a channel dedicated to Scott's facial hair. I was and still am tragically disappointed this isn't the case.
I feel like the style savvy series never went far enough with its concept. The dress up and pagentry element by stay where it is, but the business simulator side cluld be greatly expanded. Needing to quickly adapt to changing trends while maintaining taxes and budgets could give it a new audience in those people that love simulation games.
I had sold my 3DS in 2015 but after playing Zelda: BotW I bought a new one to replay ALBW and some other games. Also played Luigi’s Mansion, Samus Returns, and a lot of the indie and downloadable games. It’s weird to think that the 3DS came out when the Wii was still the current console, the post-switch stuff feels shockingly “current”.
I don't understand why so many people got upset that the 3DS lasted two more years after the Switch came out, like that's really normal for consoles. The vast majority of consoles don't die the second their successor hits the market, like the Wii U's basically the only case of this in Nintendo history besides like the Virtual Boy lol. I doubt anyone complained about the NES, GameBoy, SNES, DS, etc lasting after their successors came out, the 3DS getting games in 2019 didn't take away from anything. Like I think it was fine, it was just two years haha. Also I personally disagree with Antdude on gen 7, that's my favourite and I genuinely don't understand why you'd play a roleplaying game if you don't want to see cutscenes. Like the game wants to tell a story, it's gonna use cutscenes. Why wouldn't it? Oh and in Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, you can just ignore the ravel abilities. If you accidentally pick one up, just drop it. You can play Extra Epic basically just like the original by ignoring them, there's no option to disable them but they're never required for progression. Sorry if this seemed like a hate comment or something, I like this videos and I'm a fan of both channels. I just disagree haha
"I genuinely don't understand why you'd play a roleplaying game if you don't want to see cutscenes." He never said anything about cutscenes though. And if he did he would be right, there is far too many and they destroy the pacing of the game. People play pokemon games to battle and catch pokemon, not to see characters talk. Plus the story it tried to tell wasn't very good.
@@oscarzxn4067 My bad, however I think those are the exceptions rather than the rule, handhelds usually don't die immediately. Look at every other main Nintendo handheld (besides VB)
I didn’t buy a 3DS till 2016 and a Switch till 2021, so I was happy to see the 3DS survive for so long after the Switch released. Also Sushi Striker for life.
I’m the Style Savvy fan. I have hundreds of hours in all 4 of them. I cry daily for them to release a new one (I’ll take a port even). The team that made it has a game coming up don’ soon, Fashion Dreamer or something? It looks like it’s only focused on the clothes and outfits though, while the entire shop gameplay has been left out.
The next Fire Emblem remake (based off the 4th game, Geneology of the Holy War) is currently rumored to be upcoming on Switch. This is supported by bot the internal code of Engage (which is Iron18 in code, where Three Houses was Iron16), plus was mentioned in the leak alongside Engage.
Correcting someone on the fact that the boo amiibo came out with Mario Party Star Rush and NOT Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions is peak Nintendo fandom
37:26 it was a good remake. It was not the definitive version because a lot of the originals, character designs were changed to generic ones. Also, the super moves became way too easy and not as fun to use.
Dillon’s Deadheat Breakers is an incredible game. RIP Vanpool. I hope your staff make their way back into Nintendo to continuously the Dillon series or st least port Deadheat Breakers to a home console 🙏

Also I remember being so pissed off when everyone wanted the 3DS to perish when the Switch launched because I simply didn't have 300 bucks to blow on a new console and so I was very happy to get more 3DS content. So there was an install base on the 3DS: poor kids! I get the frustration tho.

Mercurysteam codeveloped it with Nintendo it wasn't just them
@ausgod538 True, but the Nintendo employees on the project were largely in overhead roles (director/producer).
@@immortallixReally? It seemed fine to me, and I played Zero Mission and Super first.
Yo-Kai Watch is a great series that never took off because no one ever gave them a chance.
Scott and Ant podcast is the content I didn't know I needed
Half of Antman’s names too.

It was my first Fire Emblem game, and got me into the franchise. It's SO GOOD.
@ThisisCitrus it's good until you have to play it unfortunately...

@@V-Jes Luckily you're the only one with that take. I played it. It's amazing. As Ant Man said in the video.
I would love for Square Enix to re-release it on Switch with all that content
Too bad LEVEL-5 didn’t work on that version.
Never gonna happen, but I would like dq8 to be released on switch 2 and pc someday that combines the 2 versions.
psst ever heard of the orchestral mod?
That's why l won't stop loving the modding community. They already modded the game replacing the bgm with the orchestral version.
Man, hearing the eshop music in the background has me feeling nostalgic. I miss scrolling through the shop on my 3ds listening to this lovely theme. I’ll never understand why Nintendo got rid of it on Switch.
Have you seen how poorly the eshop runs on the Switch? That music would probably crash the whole system.
@@SodlidDesulmao fax
@@SodlidDesuIt's actually ridiculous how bad the loading times are. The page just pauseds for a good 5-10 seconds when you scroll down past a dozen games. It's so bad I thought there was something wrong with my switch when I first got it. I've heard it's because it's not an actual app, but it opens up a webpage which makes no sense to me. Why the hell would Nintendo do that when they can simply make an eShop app?
The Switch eShop theme exists but has never been used.
ua-cam.com/video/ivRsSeoEW_0/v-deo.html
apparently there is unused music for the switch eshop, but it wasn't used and is suspected to be because the eshop would run considerably worse
I just had a really good time with Ultra Moon, even if my 1000 hours were mostly spent just breeding and Wonder Trading Pokemon.
man I sunk so much time into Miitopia on both systems
I admit that the New 2DS XL does feel a bit lighter and the hinge isn’t great, but the fact that they *finally* recessed the touch screen into the system is what made me get it earlier this year.
Every other 3DS I own has marks from the raised portions/bezel of the touch screen from years of opening and closing and it drove me _bonkers_

But in all seriousness yo-Kai watch is really fun, it’s obviously not for everyone but it’s really well designed and disregarding it as ‘all the people who liked it played it when they were 7’ like you could say that about almost every Nintendo series. Cough Cough Kirby

I love that game so much, underrated gem imo
I was not expecting the Scott’s Stash and Antdude Plays collab so soon, but I’m not complaining at all!
34:36 I was *the* yo-kai watch person back when the anime was still airing in English.
For portability, 3DS is just better than Switch, tbh. I like Scott but they aren't recognizing not everyone's use cases are the same as theirs.

Scott sounding excited for Yo-Kai Watch discussion, and then him revealing it was a bit got me kinda sad.
I like everything that's not that in Yo-Kai Watch instead.

This gives me the same vibe as discussing the message of a book during class and I love it so much
Fun fact: on the same day Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World was released, the Wii U game got a free update so that the Poochy amiibo can be used during levels to make Poochy appear.
Ant: I've never met anyone who's a Yokai Watch guy.
Didn't he meet this guy named AbdallahSmash?
As weird as this may sound i think 2017 was my favorite year for the 3ds, you had
-Miitopia
-Fire Emblem echoes
-Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon
-Metriod samus returns
-Poochy and Yoshis Wooly World
-Monster hunter stories
-Hey Pikmin (i thought that game was fine)
For me It would have to be either 2013 or 2015
Shame Ultra Sun and Moon sucked and it's arguably the worst third version in pokemon history.

I really hope switch 2 is backwards compatible. Ps5 is backwards comparable with ps4
Agreed. Backwards compatibility is what makes most consoles special.
even if you had the money, for the first couple of years there was a shortage of systems because they sold too well. So Nintendo tried making games for anyone who couldn't get hold of a switch. Sure they probably went about a year too long on that but still they were thinking of giving those on smaller budgets an option.
Thanks to you guys’ enthusiasm for the 3DS I actually bought one a few months ago. Love it!
Yokai watch just got better with each game. Comparing 3 to 1 is like night and day.

Idk if you're being sarcastic. It is very easy to do and addicting once you discover everything you can do with it.
It's surprisingly easy to mod your 3ds

@@graftical it’s just surprising to see someone mention the games outside of people who like the games, Scott also has all the games
Because us yo-kai watch fans are desperate for it to be mentioned because it is barely ever talked about. @@graftical
2017 had one big game that actually sold. Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
I loved this. I also just rewatched the 2018 switch recap video, so this goes so well with it.
Scott be in the same room as Nintendo without bringing up the "you gotta be into pokemon as a kid" line up challenge
Noticing a theme here…
Bad game came out on 3DS: “Why didn’t they just launch a better version of this game on the switch?”
Good game came out on the 3DS: “Why didn’t Nintendo port this to the switch?!”
This is the definition of a Zero-Sum game and this is why people were mad back in the day. The bias was in favoring the existence of the switch over giving the 3DS and its games the credit it deserved.
I may be a little late to the party - but I finally got my first 3DS in 2023, and oh boy I can't believe on how much I was missing out!
Finally... the Scott's Stash×AntDude Plays collaboration we've all been waiting for!
Yall need to give Yokai Watch a shot
27:48 yep this is pretty much exactly it. By the last year or so of the 3DS’s life, they were literally only shipping 2DS and New 2DS XL units in North America.
My favorite UA-camrs
I have nostalgia for the Miitopia demo. I remember playing it at my grandparents house and begging my parents to buy it for me.
Honestly, WarioWare Gold is my favorite game of all time and I say that without hesitation.
there is something somewhat comedic about realizing your childhood favourite game was lowkey so bad
The bowsers inside story remake is one of the best remakes of all time
He criticized SUN and MOON for running poorly, while praising Scarlet and violet? wtf… this guy serious?
Both are awful. Now go get a life.
Played 2 minutes of both games
Or he is just blind 😂😂😂😂
I hated Pokémon Scarlet, as it made me never play a single new game again. They’re gaslighting on its performance upon launch.
In all fairness, I never found any glitches myself after all the commotion for them, as the story beats kinda got boring as it started.
A game that runs poorly can still be good game.
Also, opinion you salty child.
They also did completely cut support for the Wii, GC, N64 and GBC as soon as their succesor's came out
"I genuinely don't understand why you'd play a roleplaying game if you don't want to see cutscenes."
He never said anything about cutscenes though.
Scott: Fire Emblem Echoes, never played it, CLASSIC
I didn’t buy a 3DS till 2016 and a Switch till 2021, so I was happy to see the 3DS survive for so long after the Switch released. Also Sushi Striker for life.
It's cool that Scott the Woz and Scott the Woz Kirby are collabing
I’m the Style Savvy fan. I have hundreds of hours in all 4 of them. I cry daily for them to release a new one (I’ll take a port even). The team that made it has a game coming up don’ soon, Fashion Dreamer or something? It looks like it’s only focused on the clothes and outfits though, while the entire shop gameplay has been left out.
19:47 "everything is good after 15 years"
The next Fire Emblem remake (based off the 4th game, Geneology of the Holy War) is currently rumored to be upcoming on Switch. This is supported by bot the internal code of Engage (which is Iron18 in code, where Three Houses was Iron16), plus was mentioned in the leak alongside Engage.
YES! What a great idea for a video! I'm so excited to watch this!
Correcting someone on the fact that the boo amiibo came out with Mario Party Star Rush and NOT Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions is peak Nintendo fandom
Guys I had a rough night with a flu and this helped me calm down!! Thank you for the amazing content❤
USUM was freaking amazing. Sun and Moon are my second favorites to Black and White
37:26 it was a good remake. It was not the definitive version because a lot of the originals, character designs were changed to generic ones. Also, the super moves became way too easy and not as fun to use.
Dillon’s Deadheat Breakers is an incredible game.
RIP Vanpool. I hope your staff make their way back into Nintendo to continuously the Dillon series or st least port Deadheat Breakers to a home console 🙏
i always hear people say Pokémon Stars as a hypothetical third version but i never hear anyone say Pokémon Eclipse which would make more sense
pokémon stars sounds like it’d just be a pokémon sun expansion or something bc the sun is also a star
yo kai watch in final fantasy 14 is amazing
I NEED ScottCast, Scott.
