I like the fact that a character like Mario would never be created nowadays, he's a product of the 1980s context. His first design as a carpenter was based on the context of the game (Donkey Kong) with the cap and the huge mustache being just so the sprite would me more recognizable. Then based on the limitations of technology and how they could represent people, Mario was used again in other games with other jobs (demolition worker in Wrecking Crew, plumber in Mario Bros.) and finally a super hero? retaining the same design in Super Mario Bros. With the abstraction of the technology at the time it was acceptable. Dr.Mario is like the last iteration of this tendency even though there was no need for that anymore considering his sprite was large enough to not need to be Mario and just happened to spawn a succesful franchise.

I think one of the main reasons a platform fighter was made into a Nintendo crossover is that most of Nintendo's core franchises at the time of the first game were platformers with 2D entries being relatively recent

So the character I want “back” is already technically back. But more specifically, I want Pauline back in a Donkey Kong game. Nintendo almost did it too with “Donkey Kong Freedom”.

It's confirmed that Skullgirls, Blazeblue, and Under Night In-Birth, were inspired by Darkstalkers. So maybe they can work as successors??

If you want my opinion on characters that should return, they are… Captain Syrup (she’s better than Waluigi) Donkey Kong Jr. (Have him replace Kiddy Kong for how Rareware contradicted themselves) Foreman Spike (Movie design but wears a Builder Outfit instead of a “Fit-it Felix” Outfit.) Wanda The Subcon Fairies and Princess Shokora.

Thank you, thank you for Eggman in Smash. The idea of Gordon HalfLife being in this alternate version of Smash would be interesting. Maybe as a DLC stage, Aperture Labs? As a transforming or moving stage, similar to Pictochat or Gamer, except instead of 5-Volt, it's GLaDOS. With Asteroids-esque "looping corners".

Some great ideas here! I can't argue with any here, but you might also want to add more outrun cars. There are many sega franchises that are sorely underrepresented. Shame TSR switched to only Sonic characters, and they don't even have much of a personality. I hope the next game plays more like Transformed and has more creative tracks. It will include Persona for sure. I've heard a rumour that one is in development on a new engine. What else would you want out of a new sequel?

As someone who only got into the games this summer. Started on 0 and completed K1-5 now on 6. I agree as Haruka is what turns the game from being another ps2 era GTA clone to its own unqiue thing.

Neat, but a little restricting tbh. You did Zobio and Zobiko a little dirty, I think they were a fun duo that were added because they were the more kid-friendly picks from House of The Dead. And while I get your apprehension towards guests, it would at least make sense to add ones that had history with Sega during their console years like Sparkster, Playful Mail, someone from Power Stone, and even characters that were synonymous with Sega but they don't own like Toejam and Earl and Wild Woody.

The Sonic and sega Racing Games are so underrated and deserve more love

The reason they combined Jacky and Akira into a team is because to my knowledge that Akira is basically the Ryu of Virtua Fighter. Basically that it'd be weird as hell seeing him drive since he's so training and dojo focused. Like, he doesn't seem like the type to hit the club or something like that.
