  • Today is the return of the Fairy Door- this one was so much fun. I hope you enjoy watching as I did making!
    Video Features
    -Making wood door
-Using Soft pastels to create realistic look
    -Adding stones
-Making flowers and shrubs & the finer details
    Tools:
-Tile to create and bake on
-Craft knife, tissue blade and a mixture of clay
    Baking Polymer Clay:
UK instructions for baking- it's all in Celsius not Fahrenheit, which is why I don't always quote times & temperatures. I recommend using Polymer Clay packet instructions. However a good tip is to bake no higher than 100 degrees Celsius. It's better to bake at a lower temperature for longer, than higher for shorter.
Larger clay items need longer- always check after 10 mins- sometimes things fall over in the oven & can be rescued at this point. Watch for burning! Especially white as it's quick to burn (don't know why...) and can turn yellow!
Once out of the oven wait for it to cool before thinking it's baked- if it feels soft to touch, you can poke a finger nail in it or a finger print, back in the oven it goes!
Electric ovens work better as the temperature is even, gas oven temperatures fluctuate do not keep a steady temp for baking polymer clay.

Such a conundrum watching; so relaxing that I don’t want to move, but am so inspired that I must get up and participate! Your knack for highlighting brings each aspect of your creation alive! What a joy to share!!

Thank you so much! What a lovely comment! I love soft pastels, they do really bring polymer clay alive! Thanks for watching! I hope it managed to inspire enough to start one yourself, they are so much fun & actually relaxing to do as there is just so much freedom with this one 😁

@@GailJonesPolymerClay, yeah. I have a thing for doors/gates already, so, yes! 😍 Diorama’s are such good practice and yours are notches above the others here on UA-cam. Your creativity requires so few tools!! For what it’s worth, I think you do an excellent job at editing, too. Time spent on your channel is like spending time with a friend and couldn’t be better, imo. I always look forward to your next video! Have a great weekend, Gail ✌🏽

Ohh that's really nice. I've always loved clay, but I've never been someone who likes going on camera. So I had to overcome that, plus teach myself how to edit. Loved it & never looked back. Originally, it was just so I could challenge myself to make different things. Now, I constantly have lists of things I want to try out! 😄

What a beautiful fairy door! The soft pastels made all the difference. When you were doing the window and you got a lot of excess powder in there I thought to myself I would’ve totally tilted the tile to get it out without thinking about the three little piles to the side… then you did just that, and I went “nooo” 😂
Thank you for finding the time to make a video for us even with the puppy around. You are such a joy to watch 🥰

Aww thanks for the lovely complement Kristina! It's funny, I don't really think about what I'm doing, I forget I'm filming and I just make & focus- usually listening to an audio story- I'm 100% literally away with the fairies 🤣 🤣 but you know, making videos really makes my day. I'm making it work with my puppy, but losing my socks, slippers and sanity slightly. She can't go out for walks yet, two weeks to go! ( and counting!) 🤣

Hi Gail, wow I love this door. And I can only imagine the little fairy who lives behind it so sweet. Thank you for this tutorial. I love how you did the wood, the moss and the flowers! I hope your pooch is doing well and not causing too much grief. I know they can be challenging when they are just puppies.

Aww thanks Ellie, yeah I loved doing this one. It's so relaxing as there are no rules with a fairy door, I think I'm definitely going to do some more of these! I'm thinking a bright blue or red door next time... as for Bailey puppy. She's very sassy, when we tell her off, she barks(well , yaps 🤣) and runs at us for like she's arguing! She literally bites everything at the moment. Those teeth are sharp!! 😅 wouldn't change her though.

Hey Gail..I want to thank you for bringing your camera closer when you were doing the green clay, I was squinting so hard to see what and how you were doing it. When you brought it closer, so much nicer. You did a great job on it and it is very cute. I would call it a hobbit door too.🤔 Love watching you work.👌💖

This was an absolute joy to watch! You have inspired me to try this. A couple of questions. First, your clay for both the door and the base you put it on look quite thick. How long will you bake this? Second, will you use a spray sealer on this? If so, which one? Last question- how will this be displayed? It is so lovely I can’t imagine putting it outside but would love to know how to use/display it. Love your imagination and attention to detail! ❤❤❤

    • @GailJonesPolymerClay
      @GailJonesPolymerClay  2 місяці тому

Thank you, Linda! So kind of you! It was quite thick, but I always bake at 75 degrees Celsius or 167 degrees Fahrenheit. I bake for 30 minutes, I use an electric oven as gas can fluctuate in temperature & sometimes burn, despite not changing anything. I didn't use any spray sealer as the soft pastels I used aren't transferable after it is baked, which is great, plus I often want a matt look.. For my flat pieces, I usually put a hole in the top and thread with string/ribbon to hang on the wall. This one would work with two holes on either side at the top because of the weight. I have also framed pieces before. Thanks so much for watching! ❤️

As I have never made something like this before, and I want to, I need to hear you describe what you are doing and using.
