    My favourite fairy doors i make are ones you can interact with. When i open my door its not just a blank wall but a mirror. Giving the illusion of a portal inside. I also hide 1oz fake silver bullion bars in there. Its fun to return to my doors in remote places knowing someone interacted with it because the silver is gone. Its even more fun when someone leaves something for me to find after they take the gift. :)

    If you put a thin coat of mortar on your plywood and seal it with the polyurethane you will have a base that is alot more waterproof than just paint and polyurethane. Realy love your work. I should have watched your basket tutorial 3 weeks ago lol. You can make your basket stronger and more weather proof by using mortar on it and then brushing off the grit when it is almost dry... if it dries the grit is staying put but adds a different texture that i find pleasing.

    For Girl Scouts I am going for my gold award and am mapping and marking trails in a local glen. I wanted to make hiking fun for younger kids and have something that would inspire them to go out into nature and check out the trails. I plan to create my own fairy garden/path along the trail. The problem is I am 16 and don't know to much about fairy gardens. I have been watching many videos and even went to a public fairy garden. Your videos are really helping me come up with different ways to make things. Thank u so so much and please make more fairy stuff for outdoors, it would help so so much 💗

    Wow! I can't believe all the trouble you went to getting all the right materials to do this the right way. You are very patient, but the results were worth it. The reason I like fairy doors is because of the potential for a child (or childlike adult) to stumble upon it ... that magical feeling they are going to experience in that moment.

    • @Certainlycaroline
      @Certainlycaroline  8 років тому

      Yes! Finding a fairy door brings out the kid in all of us, I think. Have you seen the fairy doors in Ann Arbor, Michigan? Various businesses have them for shoppers to stumble upon... bit.ly/29xUNsO. I'd love to visit...so magical. :)

      I have an idea, make the door up, do the surrounding as you want it, then put little hinges on the wood and the door, decorate like you would your front door, then you have a fairy door that opens. I am making mine with the tree's the housing cut down. I asked them to cut the trees in sections so I can make the floor's jut out. I am not a bit technical where the computer is concerned but I will do my best when it's finished to show you what it's like, have a great day and thanks for taking the time to do this video, much appreciated. :)

    I made mine out of cement shaped it as a door with an arch then when it was still a little damp but firm I took some bark and press it into the door. Lightly to make it look like a wooden door then I took a little branch that had a little kink in it and made a doorhandle then I stained the door antique brown. And hand painted rustic hinges

    My husband just cut down a tree in our front yard so now I want to turn the stump into a fairy house. I have been searching for fairy doors on amazon but I just couldn't find anything worth the price or cute enough and then I found this. You make it seem so doable. So so cute. I was wondering, when you put the clay with the popsicle stick in the oven what did you put on it so the wood wouldn't burn up? You've inspired me to make my own. Great video!

      Hi Sara, thank you so much for your encouraging comment and your question. I'm delighted to hear you're giving it a go! The wood won't burn up, it will be very happy in your oven because polymer clay needs the temp to be nice and low. You'll want to follow the directions on your clay package, but all polymer clay brands require a temp that wood can handle happily. I would warn you to pick up an oven thermometer though. Don't trust your oven to keep to the temp you set it for, they seem to have minds of their own. A separate oven thermometer should cost about $5 or so and you'll be able to bake your clay (and wood) without unknowingly burning it. I believe you can get one at a grocery store.

    your clip like bringing me to the fairy world 😆😆😆😆😆 but i wonder that when i put it on my wall for a long time, dust will stick it and how do u make it clean ? if u use water, the color is fading away ?

    • @Certainlycaroline
      @Certainlycaroline  8 років тому

      I've found that the door is very easy to dust with a dry paint brush. I just dust it like I dust other things in my home. No need to get it wet to clean off dust. If you want to keep it outside, the color shouldn't fade very quickly because the products are for outdoor use. I use outdoor paints and you can add a varnish made for the outdoors. Thanks for your interest, thuy Thu! :)

    Have you got any tips on making a small fairy door out of clay to go on the front of a fairy house made out of an upside down pot?

    Oh how Beautiful!one fairy story I love is how two little girls used pictures of fairies they drew and a camera, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle saw them and believed they were Real! Why? Because he didn't believe little girls intelligent enough to fool him!(the photos/drawings Are wonderfully done)
