  • Here's another go at alcohol inks and polymer clay, I don't consider myself a master of this art in no way! This is another experiment which I thoroughly enjoy and to be honest, I liked what I came up with!

    Video Features
    -How to make hanging decoration, reed diffuser, cover glass jars
    -Alcohol/plastic wrap technique
    -How to make a jelly roll with translucent clay (cool effect)
    -Finding the right balance of ink (I haven't done this yet!)
    Tools:
    -Tile to transfer clay and leave to dry
    -glass reed diffuser, glass jars/candle holders
    -Gold leaf, alcohol inks, translucent & white polymer clay
    -Tissue blade, craft knife, plastic wrap
    No glitter- what?! who am I and who have I been replaced with?!
    Baking Polymer Clay:
    UK instructions for baking- it's all in Celsius not Fahrenheit, which is why I don't always quote times & temperatures. I recommend using Polymer Clay packet instructions. However a good tip is to bake no higher than 100 degrees Celsius. It's better to bake at a lower temperature for longer, than higher for shorter.
    Larger clay items need longer- always check after 10 mins- sometimes things fall over in the oven & can be rescued at this point. Watch for burning! Especially white as it's quick to burn (don't know why...) and can turn yellow!
    Once out of the oven wait for it to cool before thinking it's baked- if it feels soft to touch, you can poke a finger nail in it or a finger print, back in the oven it goes!
    Electric ovens work better as the temperature is even, gas oven temperatures fluctuate do not keep a steady temp for baking polymer clay.

      Thank you Carolyn! I like the outside but not the inside, but its all trial and error - will try less colours next time, see what effects I can get with just 2 or 3 and perhaps less of the gold as it went orange 🤣

    Great tutorial! I think how you do your videos is excellent with the intro, show & tell, and just music for the creating. I also find it hard to chat during a tutorial, and I too am in the same boat with you regarding watch hours. Well done for explaining it as I don't think many viewers know.

      Aww, thanks! I like a structure, so the video pattern is good for me when it comes to editing... I never know what I'm going to make, I don't plan it out, I just film it all & see what happens 🤣 there is alot that goes on behind the scenes in YT videos that people don't realise, but I absolutely love it, one day in the far, far distance it might just pay the bills- but not yet haha - we can all wish! 😉

    Hi Gail, happy new year.! I hope you are doing well and how is Bailey ? I’m glad to be back home after a month away but it was quite lovely to be in the sunshine. Funny thing I was just working on some hearts this morning and wondering about using alcohol inks and tada your video popped up. I love these things, especially the hearts.. I have to say I wasn’t sure while I was watching what was going to happen, but each piece is beautiful. I even like the covered glasses inside and out. I’m off to figure out how to do my own alcohol ink creations, although I don’t think I have as many in as you do kind of jelly lol. Have lots of videos to catch up on, so I’ll probably be watching them all sooner or later. Take care and thanks for this video. It’s wonderful.!

      Happy New Year, and welcome back! It seemed to have gone quickly! It's a long process with alcohol inks as its messy and them has to dry in-between, but so worth the mess for the beautiful patterns. I'm going to it in later videos with less colours I think, I have to remember to hold back, but I never do! 😄

    You could write more like the color ink as you’re using them, I like the show and tell because we saw it before oven and then we know it was cooked and some videos you can’t tell if it was cooked or not.

    Hi Gail, just have a question- have you ever used alcohol inks over silver or gold leaf?

    • @GailJonesPolymerClay
      @GailJonesPolymerClay  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Ellie! No I haven't- I don't think it would work as it might drip off? Certainly worth a go! You could do the alcohol inks on a really thin layer of translucent and then layer this over white clay with the gold leaf on it? That might work?

    Great video. I appreciate the way you do your videos. Often it appears that people are very nervous during their videos and the say the same things over and over and laugh at inside jokes - taking away from the video. I have often wanted to see the product first because I like what the presenter creates and I go to the end and then go back if I want to make it - just because they talk so much and the videos turn out so long. Not on yours though. Thank you!

    • @GailJonesPolymerClay
      @GailJonesPolymerClay  6 місяців тому +1

      Ahh yes I do the same,as for the nervousness - my very first video is still up, I can't look at that as I'll cringe 😅 but now I just talk and try to entertain while showing cool techniques - I do love it a bit of a giggle which is why there are bloopers at the end 🤣 thank you for your compliments Cheryl!
