This song is so beautiful; it shows how the Phantom sees music as his escape from the life he lives, where people fear him and he's forced to live under an opera house.
Man, if I ever get the chance to just go somewhere where no people are and the sky is just full of stars, I would totally sing this and put all my heart into it.

with a lisp due to his lip, and heavy with accent. absolutely excellent. only thing i dont like is that possessive part. not his doing but it doesnt reflect the origin story.
This song is literally a trance. It's so memorising and hearing it live is other worldly. It's definitely my favorite song from the musical. I remember Sarah Brightman saying that this was a powerful song and she wanted to perform it and was sad when she found out it's the phantom's ballad but I can't blame her, it's a beautiful, powerful and emotional song. It's amazing to listen to and sing along just ugh amazing
Who could dislike this song???? He had never been trained in singing before this movie and his voice is absolutely amazing!!! How? Just how could this beautiful song be disliked?
I compared Butler's performance to Boccelli's. Although Boccelli is a professional opera singer, and has amazing voice, Butlers gives some terror and horror so needed in such tormented creature of darkness. Butler sounds once like an angel and then like a devil. Plus I like his voice, he did excellent job as someone who never received proper training before. Bocceli's performance has beauty but lacks the emotions.

+Sathya Prabhakar I plan on singing this song for Talent Show at my school this year, considering it's my senior year and my music teacher really wants me to sing it. Just got to train my voice to hit those high notes more smoothly.

Anyone else put their headphones on to listen and go into a trance? This voice is so amazing I feel like he was standing in front of me and I wanted to be with him
I'm not sure what you would consider a "musical voice," but several things are certain in this recording: 1. He maintains pitch throughout. 2. He is able to convey emotion as he sings. 3. He has excellent diction. 4. His dynamics are impeccable. Sounds like a very capable musical voice to me! :)
Doug Schwandt sure. But that's not what I meant. I love his voice and the emotion. But what I mean by "musical" voice is something like ramin karimloo. Both is awesome. And even if gerry doesn't have the kind of voice like ramin he fits perfectly to the role and his voice has everything the phantom should have :)
I find this version my the best Music of the Night performance. The way it's sang, the feelings projected onto his voice, is marvelous. :) Love it. Love his interpretation.

This is the song I picked to sing in Drama class back in high school in my junior year. Despite my social anxiety, I actually did a great job singing it and received an A+. Heck, I passed the whole year with an A+
I’m fourteen and love this, every time my mum played this I would just sit down quietly and watch it and it used to be near impossible to stay still when I was younger. Though it used to always freak out my older sister.
I don't really think of him as a Villain, I mean like, he had an awful time as a child and that messed him up. Well actually he did kill people... Uhhhh....Lets forget that part :)

Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defenses
Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendor
Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender
Turn your face away from the garish light of day
Turn your face away from cold, unfeeling light
And listen to the music of the night
Close you eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar
And you'll live as you've never lived before
Softly, deftly, music shall caress you
Hear it, feel it, secretly possess you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind
In this darkness which you know you cannot fight
The darkness of the music of the night
Let your mind start a journey through a strange, new world
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before
Let your soul take you where you long to go
Only then can you belong to me
Floating, falling, sweet intoxication
Touch me, trust me, savor each sensation
Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in
To the harmony which dreams alone can write
The power of the music of the night
You alone can make my song take flight
Help me make the music of the night

I NEVER would have thought Gerard's voice would sound this amazing. His voice is so intreguing.♥
His voice is amazing!!!
OUTSTANDING! ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!
Love you, Erik!
My grandfather loves this song. He only has a few days. Crying listening to this reminiscing all our memories, and enjoying his legacy. love you Pa
Just replying to bring you back to this intoxicating song, and to say that I’m sure your grandfather is very proud of you. ♥️ he had great taste in music.
I like how Gerald Butler sings this Song In The Movie! He made a Great Phantom of Opera! 🎶🎵🎶
i dont know why people give the movie shit.
I'm considering singing this at our Pops concert at school, and this is so immensely useful.

+Glitterpuff Galaxy Lol- my friend my the same mistake today... she kept going on about how much she hates Oprah Music...
Dani Speirs I know... how can you hate on Opera music? Big mistake, blame autocorrect xD
Gonna be the Phantom for Halloween, so excited
this is truly beautiful! 😍
Hauntingly beautiful!
I like to sing along with this except an octave lower, Imagining myself as nearly a copy of the Phantom just as a bass.
Same, except I'm a soprano, so I have to settle for dramatically flipping my red cape as I watch the movie.
Oltyx Lucatius im a baritone and i grew to sing of this sing
I sort of did that at a school costume contest one time but was only a small portion(around 30 sec.). Although it sounded odd, I was amazing
Love this vid and The Phantom of the Opera is my fave movie 2 I've watched it 7times this week
[PHANTOM: Verse 1]
Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defenses
[Verse 2]
Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendor
Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender
Turn your face away from the garish light of day
Turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light
And listen to the music of the night
[Verse 3]
Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
And you'll live as you've never lived before
[Verse 4]
Softly, deftly, music shall surround you
Feel it, hear it closing in around you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind
In this darkness which you know you cannot fight
The darkness of the music of the night
[Verse 5]
Let your mind start a journey to a strange new world
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before
Let your soul take you where you long to be
Only then can you belong to me
Yes we can read the lyrics as the song plays 🙄
Since a child , I loved the phantom of opera , Michael Crawford , and Sarah brightmam still hold the gold , this a close second 👍
I feel it could have gone differently and the Phantom didn't have to go out like that. He seems so sad.
This is the song I picked to sing in Drama class back in high school in my junior year.
Despite my social anxiety, I actually did a great job singing it and received an A+.
Heck, I passed the whole year with an A+
I love his voice !
bye far one of the best songs i have ever heard!
Very calming and relaxing :D.
Finally I found this pieces title. Thank you
I wonder *thinks of music of the night song for future wedding* that could work :3
Lol......
I’m fourteen and love this, every time my mum played this I would just sit down quietly and watch it and it used to be near impossible to stay still when I was younger. Though it used to always freak out my older sister.

this song has such a sereal and dreaml like touch to it and gerard butler really sells it. it's still one of my fav songs from the movie
The phantom is still the best villen ever
"Villain"
I don't really think of him as a Villain, I mean like, he had an awful time as a child and that messed him up. Well actually he did kill people... Uhhhh....Lets forget that part :)
Joshua G. villian** not "villian" ;)
if your going go correct people do it right :)
