I absolutely agree, but in the books his voice is explained to be more beautiful and angelic than anything a human could have imagined. Obviously, a voice like that doesn't exist, but sometimes it still bothers me that they didn't even cast a professional for such expectations. But I still really adore Gerald and Emmy, they did a great job!
Omg GERARD. His name is GERARD. And Andrew Lloyd Webber picked him as well as Emmy for the main parts so I think he knew what he was doing since it’s his story
Rachael Sporer First of all: t isn't his story, there are two book written about the Phantom, one of Susan Kay and the other by Gaston Leroux. Secondly, OMG, don't freak out because of a misspelled name if you aren't absolutely flawless yourself.
Lead me, save me from my solitude...😭😭😭 when i watched this for the first time & Eric started singing All I Ask Of You, i just lost it😭 you canjust hear the pain & longing in his voice
+Elana Stewart Haha, this was so long ago I almost forgot! I meant it like: if you're a man and you don't like it, you're crazy. But if you're a girl and don't like it, you're not a woman...But I wasn't being literal or trying to insult, just making a joke :)
Okay the singing in the film was amazing. So for all you who are out there dissing the singing then you better be a dang good singer and be able to prove it before you can sit there and say you are a better singer than the phantom.
I cry every time I watch this movie and i can feel the pain the phantom has. He puts all his emotion and reflects it into the character! He is so dang talented!!!!
Feliks Łukasiewicz Poland? I didn't know you liked broadway! (Actually tbh I'm not suprised...) Just don't tell england, gog knows he'll just start braggin' about it...
I love this song, the voice of Christine and the Phantom are beautifully together, love to hear the two singing together is just a very deep voice like the phantom with a thin voice like that of Christine. It is one of my favorite movies. LOVE IT
I like Gerard Butler's The Phantom of the opera. He's not professional singer, and I don't think he did well like real legendary Phantoms, but this makes me to think that Erik was a man, who loves Christine as a girl not the angel of music, for the first time.
Thank u so much for sharing this. I really like the voice of Gerard Butler who played as the Phantom in the 2004 movie. His voice quality may not be as awesome and operatic as the other stage actors who also did the same role but the quality of his voice fits his role in the movie.
I know for a fact that isn't true. Most people could sing this on the first time without a problem. I did. It all depends on your level of singing. Some people are a little more practiced than others.
still don't understand why everyone hates Christine for leaving Erik when he was a deranged psychopath who tried to kill her boyfriend and relentlessly murdered more than ten people in the movie for no reason. Sorry people but I'd rather have the mentally sane and also handsome Raul.
When you look at Erik (is he ever referred that in the movie? I don't recall.. anyways) and his past, it kind of becomes understandable. I mean, it doesn't excuse his actions, but it does make it hard to not sympathize with Erik.
deoxysfan10 Janelle Meyer I have to agree with you deoxys! As much as he can't use his past as an excuse, the way he he brought himself up explains his actions. The way he shows his deep love for Christine is by defending her from the people who either spoke ill of her like Joseph (I think that's the stage hand's name), who got in the way of her success like Carlotta, or jeopardized her true happiness like he thought Raul was doing. With that being said, the way he did things was completely wrong, but you can't help but feel bad for the guy, especially at the end when he self destructed when he finally realized his actions made him lose Christine.
deoxysfan10 Skyler Adams I can understand that but he's still dangerous and crazy. I feel bad for the guy knowing that he was abused as a child but he could've turned his life around but instead the chick just threw him into the catacombs of a theatre instead of giving him help. But either way he threatens people with their lives unless the managers of the theatre give Christine the proper roles. I think he went way over the top with his actions and people tell me that I'm a horrible person for that but I really wouldn't want to be held against my will in a cave with a guy who kills people when he doesn't get his way
Janelle Meyer I respect your opinion and in fact I see the reasons behind it. The people who hate on your opinion are just die-hard phantom supporters. I know that the Phantom could have easily turned his life around, but the attitudes of the people about disfigured people would have made that close to impossible. I mean look at the people in the movie who claimed to have seen him like Joseph who basically call him a demon. He did go over the top, but I think he might have had the idea that doing what he did was the only way for Christine to be successful. And I agree I wouldn't want to be in a room with someone who is violent and sort of sick in the mind, but in my opinion Christine never really had anything to worry about because the Phantom would never hurt her. He even opened up to her a bit about how he sees himself and how he was treated by his mother and others. But overall I understand your reasoning for why the Phantom didn't get Christine in the end.
and my favorite part is "It's over now the music of the night" really simple but emotional voice! and breaking mirror was great direction, only possible in the movie
I know, but I haven't watched this movie in like two years, and this just made me go back and watch it and fall in love all over again. (which caused me to start to cry again) xD
Before song: Ehh Christine's a bit of a nutcase but she's ok. After song: CHRISTINE YOU BIYATCH WHAT HAVE YOU DONE HE LOVED YOU UGHHH *spazz out* but wait... The phantom is single and Christine doesn't want him... (\ouo(\ Erik let me love youuu~ XD
Okay. Seriously. To every fangirl: he freaking hangs a guy for badmouthing her, almost kills the leading lady (though she is infuriating), and makes it clear that he is a maladjusted sociopath who obsesses over her and wants a controlling relationship where he dominates her and she never leaves the opera House. Plus, he must be at least 20 years older than her if he's madame giry's age and Christine is meg Giry's age. Seriously.
+Cryptidkinger I honestly don't believe he'd keep her in the opera house and be controlling of her if he honestly believed she were in love with him. She could likely do as she pleased, just as she'd been doing up until the point where he noticed her loyalty to him may waver for another man. That is when he lost it.
I cry every time at the end of the movie, I kinda think it was kinda mean for Christine to just ditch the phantom for the guy that has a normal face when the Phantom was just a lonely person it wasn't his fault his face looked like that cut him some slack I think you would be sad to if your face looked deformed and your love ditches you for someone whos face looks normal.... and well he's just a tragic person hes had a horrible past and is just kinda sad and rude because of that
The movie doesn't show it exactly, but the Phantom was really cruel. Anyway, the whole story's about real love and desire... she loves Raul, I mean... it's a pure feeling, as for the Phantom she feels sexually attracted to him: by his voice, the way he touches her and all of that. However, I admit that in the movie I wanted her to stay with the Phantom, since I could feel the sparks flying between them... Furthermore, Gerard Butler has this special talent of making every girl fall for him, even if he's playing the bad guy :D
Kiryuume I think that's what made me mad at Christine lol Gerard Butler is so sexy. When they showed his face I was like, eh it's not that bad. Still be with him over the other guy. Not far for the guy who plays Raoul since Gerard Butler is 100x's sexier lol
People who say Butler isnt a good singer make me irritated. He is better than many guys ive ever heard and he is also acting as hes singing thats why when he sings he sounds different than random people singing hes ACTING his emotion and character is portrayed in his voice as much as it is when you physically see him acting. when she goes "CONSUMEEEE UUUUSSS" I always get chills so hard that I basically pass out actually this whole song gives me chills so crazy as if I'm going to pass out its amazing c:
Slowly you reveal yourself Eventually they come to accept The spirit that under the mask The soul that has sung his words The phantom of the opera is here Revealing himself
We're doing this song for my music theater camp performance of Friday and I'm doing Christine's solo and I've never had a solo in any choir or anything before. I'm so nervous.

By far my favorite!!!!!!

Mr. Butler is an awful singer xD Listen to Michael Crawford or Ramin Karimloo if you want to forreal sound like the phantom xD I'm not a choir kid, I'm first clarinet in my highschool's wind symphony, the highest band, so I know a lot about music and we have to sing some stuff ourselves --- this isn't the way to do it!
Da Liz Baggins so not everyone is not a good singer that doesn't mean you need to get all hostile and brutal because he tries his best and that is what counts don't like it don't listen
Well when you think about it, he's lived his life alone and never really had any emotional contact with anyone. I see it as he doesn't know how to properly deal with people and the situations that he finds himself in. He's just a terribly lonely man who just wants to be saved and loved. Christine is the one person that he's attacted to like this and he doesn't want to lose her. Unfortunatly violence and anger is the only way he knows how to act because thats how he has been treated.
I love this movie. And I liked that she and Raul got together. But u know at the end of the movie when he puts the monkey on her grave and sees the rose. The phantom never really went away. Forbidden love poor phantom:,(
Eric loved her more than Rauol ever could have. He wanted to make her a star of the opera. He would have done anything for her. He didn't know what love felt like. He almost had it before Rauol came along and pulled Christine farther and farther away from the Phantom. If Raulo wouldn't have interfered, she would have gone with the Phantom. She loved them both, but in the end she had to pick the safer option. I know. But she should be with the Phantom...
I love singing along to the songs from this movie with my headphones in at the top of my lungs!!! :D Then I take them off and realize I sound like a dying walrus :(
I loved Eric's wedding ring a little more... but that's not the only reason. I mean he's so much more compassionate than Raoul and so much more loving! Even though the Phantom did a bunch of evil stuff... I really wish the Phantom didn't tell Christine to leave D:
I'm not a native english speaker, what is actually the meaning of "we've passed the point of no return"? Does it mean that Christine has made a final decision to be with Erik and she won't change her mind?
Accio1173 its an expression that basically means that you've gone too far with something to be able to take it back, like if you go into a haunted house and the doors slam behind you and lock, you've gone past the point of no return
its better for them both. would you rather be told that someone didnt love you or have them lie and say they did and know in your heart they are only staying with you because they are scared of you?
And he warned them that something bad would happen if they didn't listen. He needed to get through to Christine, and the first time, they were mistreating him, keeping him in a cage, torturing him, and mocking him for something that wasn't his fault. "The world showed no mercy to me!" And it's true. He can't know how to give something that he's never had.
-_- i hate it when people say this, yes Eric (the phantom btw thats his name) did love Christine and Christine did have feelings for him, but she chosed Rauol because she loved him as more then a friend, not the phantom
Christine was with. Raoul first. She did not betray him really, but honestly i think both guys in this movie are awesome. I like the phantom of the opera and raoul . I cried when the phantom looked so sad:(
I think at the beginning she was truly in love with the phantom, until she saw raul (Her childhood sweetheart). Then the fact that he wanted to keep her pretty much isolated probably made her think about what kind of life that is.
Gerald did an amazing job for not being a professional singer. I absolutely love his voice and it goes perfectly as a phantom of the opera.
Jeanieinabottle yeah I would've thought he was a professional singer had I not known who he was
yeah, Gerald Butter was amazing in this movie
I absolutely agree, but in the books his voice is explained to be more beautiful and angelic than anything a human could have imagined. Obviously, a voice like that doesn't exist, but sometimes it still bothers me that they didn't even cast a professional for such expectations. Does anyone else just love the way she sings "consume us" , I just really enjoy that part...
Saaaame.
Me too!
It sounds like she's been possessed haha. Yes I love it :)
+Thisisjustasaga now you gotta remeber she was under his power
Dang!
Lead me, save me from my solitude...😭😭😭 when i watched this for the first time & Eric started singing All I Ask Of You, i just lost it😭 you canjust hear the pain & longing in his voice
When he starts singing All I Ask Of You, it makes me feel really sad.
+ambkn1 it's so beautiful
Nana Miavsen It's very beautiful. Gerard is my favorite phantom
+Shayne That part is very sad, too. His whole character is pretty sad..for the most part.
I love this film. I can't believe Gerard didn't have any music lessons!
The Prancing Pony you gotta be lying.
I freakin love Gerard's voice...so deep and raspy and raw!! Anyone who doesn't like it is just plain crazy!
+Elana Stewart Haha, this was so long ago I almost forgot! I meant it like: if you're a man and you don't like it, you're crazy. But if you're a girl and don't like it, you're not a woman...But I wasn't being literal or trying to insult, just making a joke :)
But ladies, I fixed it! I don't want anyone thinking I was trying to insult you guys or anyone else :)
so true!
Yeah, but I wish he had gotten better vocal training. Imagine how much better he would sound if he had total controll of his voice.
Okay the singing in the film was amazing. So for all you who are out there dissing the singing then you better be a dang good singer and be able to prove it before you can sit there and say you are a better singer than the phantom.
Omg when she sings "consume us" it's eargasmic
The end though.....omg im crying....like you can hear his begging...aksing for help...like Christine could have done so much for him.
i agree with you i love this song and i love his voice
I cry every time I watch this movie and i can feel the pain the phantom has. He puts all his emotion and reflects it into the character! He is so dang talented!!!!
This song is my favourite song from phantom
Me too! My favorite melody is the 'abandon thought and let the dream descend' part. Including the other lines with the same melody.
Feliks Łukasiewicz Poland? I didn't know you liked broadway! (Actually tbh I'm not suprised...) Just don't tell england, gog knows he'll just start braggin' about it...
Feliks Łukasiewicz Polska wszędzie. :)
+Krisdahwolf 0 OMG I FOUND A HETALIAN! I LOVE BOTH OF THESE FANDOMS :D
miskey same,
I love this song, the voice of Christine and the Phantom are beautifully together, love to hear the two singing together is just a very deep voice like the phantom with a thin voice like that of Christine. It is one of my favorite movies. LOVE IT
Thank you.
One of my all time favorites.

I like Gerard Butler's The Phantom of the opera. He's not professional singer, and I don't think he did well like real legendary Phantoms, but this makes me to think that Erik was a man, who loves Christine as a girl not the angel of music, for the first time.
When he starts singing 'Say you'll love me' I cried and yelled at the screen "I love you Phantom!!!"
In this scene I always think, "He's vengeful and hates society but... he can really write and sing an opera!"
"You know, this guy may be a murderer, but you can't deny he can really pull an opera together."
Yep
I have gotten chills every single time I have listened to each and every song
one of my favorite movies of all time, and every song of the soundtrack gives me goosebumps.
Thank u so much for sharing this. I really like the voice of Gerard Butler who played as the Phantom in the 2004 movie. His voice quality may not be as awesome and operatic as the other stage actors who also did the same role but the quality of his voice fits his role in the movie.
The singing is just beautiful but strong it catches my attention all the time and it always will be
The story of Eric ’s childhood is sad.
Broadway Freak What noun swear word is that number of letters....
if you say that the first time you tried to sing this and you sang perfectly you lied.
I know for a fact that isn't true. Most people could sing this on the first time without a problem. I did. It all depends on your level of singing. Some people are a little more practiced than others.
Yes I sang it on my first try with no problem.
Samantha Sullivan lol or probably they just suck at singing but they don't know it yet......
That too
Am I the only one hearing boops or beeps in the background? Every time I watch this video. Or am I hearing things?
Yes!! It was driving me crazy, thinking I was hearing things.
shroads79 Thanks, now it's all I am listening for.
I hear them too, and I cringe every time I hear one oh my gosh
I knew I wasn't alone! :D
I hear a chicken sound cluck
Very handsome voice! I love the Phantom so much!
OH MY GOD. YOU JUST MADE ME CRY! THIS COMMENT IS SO TRUE THAT IT HURTS.

I´m agree but I like better help a person like him
and my favorite part is "It's over now the music of the night" really simple but emotional voice! and breaking mirror was great direction, only possible in the movie
got to say, best movie/book/play even seen!! ive never been so in ove with a film before...always makes me hppy to watch!! :D
What even is in the background, it sounds like a small animal squeaking or...something?
+Hubert Cumberdale Sounds like he was recording this song and was clicking/surfing the net.
Oh thank god, I thought I was hallucinating.
Ikr! xD
Okay. Seriously.
Cryptidkinger Why do you have to try and ruin it for people? Let them dream and fangirl over what they want.
+Cryptidkinger But... But... He's just lonely :D
+Cryptidkinger I honestly don't believe he'd keep her in the opera house and be controlling of her if he honestly believed she were in love with him. She could likely do as she pleased, just as she'd been doing up until the point where he noticed her loyalty to him may waver for another man. That is when he lost it.
I love this song and this movie so so much!!!
I cry every time at the end of the movie, I kinda think it was kinda mean for Christine to just ditch the phantom for the guy that has a normal face when the Phantom was just a lonely person it wasn't his fault his face looked like that cut him some slack I think you would be sad to if your face looked deformed and your love ditches you for someone whos face looks normal.... and well he's just a tragic person hes had a horrible past and is just kinda sad and rude because of that
What Uncle Jason said. :) We actually talked about that exact point recently.
Hannah Lankford TOTALLY AGREE!
+Kiryuume I agree he has such an amazing voice that will make you feel like you melted into a puddle when you hear his voice
one of my favorite songs from The Phantom Of The Opera
I love this song but the mask in the corner is inaccurate
it's actually the original if I'm not mistaken. it's what was intended the mask to look like before other interpretations of the mask.
His voice is just... gorgeous.
I love this song!
I wish she'd choose Eric. :(
Sara Latif they do in the sequel
But the sequel is some ass.
The only thing I enjoyed about the sequel was its music. :(
WAIT! WHAT THERE IS A FUCKING SEQUEL?! NO WHAT?! WHEN?! WHATS THE NAME DAMNIT ;-;
@@shanethepigqueen3847 phantom of the opera 2.
I thought that this was such a good cast! #GerardButler haha
the phantom was HOT in the movie
People who say Butler isnt a good singer make me irritated. He is better than many guys ive ever heard and he is also acting as hes singing thats why when he sings he sounds different than random people singing hes ACTING his emotion and character is portrayed in his voice as much as it is when you physically see him acting. Why am I thinking of the Artemis Fowl character when I read your comment XD? :P True, though.
o.k so i never knew what the phantom was until my music teacher decided to let us sing it . when i heard the song i loved it . then i found out there was a movie and i wanted to see it . so when my teacher was absent he left the movie with the sub and we watched some of it . as soon as i saw the phantom i loved him i was lik'OMG that guy is soooo cute ' i thought the mask was just for him to wear until i saw him without it , but i didn't care i still loved him ( and still do) when i saw his life story in the movie i started to cry because i felt bad for him . i also used to like Christine until she left him and went to Ralph or however you pronouce his name . i mean he is a nice guy but she said she decided to be with the phantom .
It's actually Raoul :)
Even though he murders people...
Timothy Heimbach
Yes even tho he kills people lol
Lol I thought he was cute too 😂😂
He's lucky he's not worse I mean look at his childhood that makes you go mental
His voice reached my nether regions and there it traveled to my heart and soul and now has a home for all of my life. Me
when she goes "CONSUMEEEE UUUUSSS" I always get chills so hard that I basically pass out
actually this whole song gives me chills so crazy as if I'm going to pass out its amazing c:
I like this song ♥♥
The clicking sound distracts me from getting drowned in the melody
my hopes to one day sing this with a lover :) hopes and dreams
I judge all the different versions of Phantom of the Opera by how much I like the Phantom's voice XD
It´s so beautiful!!!
love this song, this movie
Slowly you reveal yourself
Eventually they come to accept
The spirit that under the mask
The soul that has sung his words
The phantom of the opera is here
Revealing himself
That noise in the background really ruins the mood :c
i agree
THANKS !
We're doing this song for my music theater camp performance of Friday and I'm doing Christine's solo and I've never had a solo in any choir or anything before. I'm so nervous.
when he sings that last peice and at the end of love never dies i think forever alone and i start to shed a tear!!!! :'(
to think the fact in the movie erik writes this piece
4:21-5:12. I love this part when Gerard Butler's Erik (Phantom) sings All I Ask Of You.
He has such an amazing voice

Favorite song. You feel so much

wtf did I just read?
watch love never dies it will explain everything
Katie Thies yeah, she is acting, but she is not at the same time
love this song! could you do a karaoke one with just the male vocals :)
I mean I sing just like him
Mr. Butler is an awful singer xD Listen to Michael Crawford or Ramin Karimloo if you want to forreal sound like the phantom xD
I'm not a choir kid, I'm first clarinet in my highschool's wind symphony, the highest band, so I know a lot about music and we have to sing some stuff ourselves --- this isn't the way to do it!
***** The only problem with that is everyone hates the sound of their voice recorded.
Da Liz Baggins so not everyone is not a good singer that doesn't mean you need to get all hostile and brutal because he tries his best and that is what counts don't like it don't listen
Lilith Nyx I don't I love it makes it feel like it is happening now
I can sing just like Christine I will do a video with me singing
Great! I like it.
Best song ever
Love this song also
She betrayed him for Raul, he burned down her opera house.
Seems legitimately fair.
Well when you think about it, he's lived his life alone and never really had any emotional contact with anyone. I see it as he doesn't know how to properly deal with people and the situations that he finds himself in. He's just a terribly lonely man who just wants to be saved and loved. me too of course ....:) the phantom is not only a great singer but a sexy man as well !!!
jesus christ around 2:07 the parasite sound in the video made me think someone was listening to me without me knowing it , IT WAS SO SCARY ;-;
I know. But she should be with the Phantom...
it took me two months to get the lyric's, and learned how to sing but worth it
i
I love singing along to the songs from this movie with my headphones in at the top of my lungs!!!
My older sister said that if she were Christine, she would tell the Phantom, "Just put the mask back on, and we can start over." XD
I like it
Very Good Job
Not surprised you're team Raoul. You like One Direction.
that part gives me the chills too its okay hahaha
I love singing like the phantom
I'm not a native english speaker, what is actually the meaning of "we've passed the point of no return"? Does it mean that Christine has made a final decision to be with Erik and she won't change her mind?
Accio1173 its an expression that basically means that you've gone too far with something to be able to take it back, like if you go into a haunted house and the doors slam behind you and lock, you've gone past the point of no return
P Tizzle yeh, now i got it... thanks for clearing it up :)
I’m learning how to sing and I love this song.
its better for them both. would you rather be told that someone didnt love you or have them lie and say they did and know in your heart they are only staying with you because they are scared of you?
Yayaloo96 really? I'm gonna have to check my local library now for it :)
I loved the movie wen I was little
And he warned them that something bad would happen if they didn't listen.
@yayaloo96 Really? Where do I find the book??
Christine was with. Raoul first. She did not betray him really, but honestly i think both guys in this movie are awesome. I like the phantom of the opera and raoul . I cried when the phantom looked so sad:(
I think at the beginning she was truly in love with the phantom, until she saw raul (Her childhood sweetheart). Then the fact that he wanted to keep her pretty much isolated probably made her think about what kind of life that is.
my sister is team Raoul, but loves the Phantom as well, she is very conflicted.
4:54-5:12 is my favourite part Gerard Butler is one hell of a good singer
THERE WAS A SEQUEL? My life is now complete.
Same :)
Me too choose him! :)
i have dreamt that sooo many times.....
Biggest dream of mine would be playing Christine in any Phantom production, am i the only one who dreams this?
