Can we take a moment to admire how beautifully written these lyrics are? The way the words flowed together is nothing less than impressive all while conveying a lasting message that truly reflected those who were singing it. The only drawback is that the song is fairly short, but I can’t think of any songs that could top this one.

Honestly, "The blood of the martyrs will water the meadows of France!" is honestly my favorite line in this song. I was an usher at a friend''s wedding. All the members of the wedding party did a flash-mob kinda thing with this exact version. The DJ was able to play a music-only version of this and gave us a few cordless mics. We started off scattered around the room and we all started singing, eventually coming together in front of the dais, facing everybody. They put the lyrics up on a screen behind us, karaoke style, and all the guests at the wedding stood up and we all sang together. One of the coolest things I've ever been a part of. Thing is we were initially planning on singing that, but in the end there weren't quite enough of students with us who studied the language itself. And since the entire uni knows English pretty well, we decided to go with this as an alternative, which is just as fitting and powerful imo.
