I’ll be 75 in November and I remember my Mother making prune cakes when I was a little girl! I remember one time she was making one and she forgot to put the prunes in! We all laughed about it and we said it was a nut cake made by a nutty Mother! She never forgot to put the prunes after that! 😢I sure do miss my nutty Mother!
Never had prune cake,I'll have to make this recipe love prunes soooooo good. Thank you for sharing Tammy and Chris have a blessed day stay safe and healthy. 😋😋😋🙏❤🙏❤🙏
I’m already 75 and I was thinking about my mom’s prune cake just the other day and wishing I had the recipe. Wow! What a delicious cake! I am going to try this recipe and I’m hoping it tastes like Mom’s. 😍❤️
My mother used to make this and it was sooooooooooo good. In using your recipe, would this work in a cake pan mold or would the recipe need to change, and if so, what would increase? Thank you so much for all you provide and cook! ❤
Mujer hermosa !!! Gracias por tu receta, en verdad se ve maravillosa, tengo todos los imgredientes. Hoy la preparo y te platico como quedó !!!! Gracias desde México 🩷🩷🩷
This was my father's favorite cake, and my grandmother always topped the cake, warm out of the oven, with a large Nestle's chocolate bar, spreading it as an 'icing' as it melted.
My grandmother just passed away and when I would come visit her she would often have me watch your channel with her. She too was a southern woman, from WV. We enjoyed your channel thank you so much for your content.
I used to have a recipe for a prune cake from an old Memphis family. It used jarred cooked prunes. It was wonderful cooked in a tinned pudding mold, wonderful holiday cake. Sadly, the tattered handwritten recipe disappeared a long time ago.
Such a great reminder to all of us to try and rewrite or restore those wonderful old recipes. I have a few from my grandmother that I will start with. Thank you !
That looks really good! I don’t recall my mom or grandmothers ever making prune cakes, but I know I made one ages ago using baby food prunes. Using the real fruit looks way better…..😉 Thanks Tammy and Chris!
Hi Tammy. On my way to Charleston for a delivery in our truck. Wish I could’ve met you but have to turn around and go home. Sure is hot here! God Bless you and all!
Hi 👋, Tammy! Is self rising flour the same as all purpose flour? I'm Andrew ... by the way. I made those brownies you showed on here. They were awesome!! My parents and I loved them. I put reesees pieces in mine. And served them with ice cream. My parents tend to like cakey stuff that way.
That looks very good I would substitute brown sugar for white or at least half. And I definitely need frosting I think the powdered sugar is just as sweet When I make my cream cheese frosting I don't add 4 cups of sugar you don't need to, two is plenty
Here in North we make prune cake but we cook the prunes first then cut then up .(I use my food processor.) We use 2 cups cooked and only 1\2 cup oil and only 1 cup sugar but everything else it the same.
My husband’s Mammaw used to make this cake often.. she gave me the recipe and I also used to make it for my husband.. she put a glaze on it with pecans in the glaze , talk about delicious.. she boiled the prune to soften them in just a little water.. the prunes stirred up in the batter.. it’s really rich with the glaze..almost too sweet.. the recipe is really old.. I’m 80 and I was in my 20’s when Mammaw gave me the recipe and it was old then..
Those are the best kind of recipes, shared history. Hope you can share it with a young family, perhaps one that knows your family. Keep the good stuff rolling around!
I have a half case of canned plums I need to use. I made plum bread, but, while moist, it didn't have much flavor. Do you think sorghum or molasses might help? Any suggestions?
Too much water in plums for it to work in this type of cake... An option would be to either put the plums on the bottom and pour the cake batter on top... Or, put the cake batter in and put the plums on top The better choice of a plum would be the Italian prune plum which should be in grocery stores now We say this from experience. Good luck with whatever you try.
Wow. I'd forgotten about this particular cake. Growing up, in WV, my Mother called it Hillbilly Cake. I've gotta try your recipe. Hubs said he'd even try it & he's not a dessert eater, in the least bit. He's just gonna try it for me & my Mother. She passed in 2019. I wish she was here, so I could make this for her.
I love prune cake.. my kindergarten teacher (and family friend/neighbor) Mrs Gallman used to make the best prune cake. She used baby food prunes in hers. I've been wanting a prune cake recipe. Thanks for sharing..
✍Hi Tammy and Chris...So happy you're making this cake. I was 18 when I got married and didn't eat much of or like anything but my husbands family always ate dessert after their supper. Yes this is an old fashioned recipe cause I'm now 78 and my mother in law was born in 1923 and this was one of her favorites to bake. Thanks for sharing your recipe. God Bless LuvYa! First beautiful kitchen, your cake mouthwatering, my Grandmother who was born 1918 and has passed awhile now about 20yrs ago, and she made this cake, I’m glad you brought this cake bake, I’m going to be making it.👍❤️😋
My daddy’s favorite cake was prune cake. Mama cooked the prunes and cut them up before putting them in the batter. She then iced it with homemade boiled caramel icing. No pecans.
👍🏻 yay! I finally found a video with your jazzy song in the opening. We just love it! 🎉

I'm not too big on prunes, but I think I'd like that cake 😋

Would this act like a laxative since prunes have that affect.??
Probably
Never heard of a prune cake looks good 🥰

Just a suggestion always toss cut up fruit in a little bit of flour it makes for a perfect distribution otherwise everything sinks to the bottom!
Looks DEVINE!

Could you use plums. Instead of prunes
Dried plums
Oh yum...I will definitely give this a try! I love your recipes...and you! God Bless..

Thank you Tammy for the "probably "answer. I have made one using fresh figs and it's Amazing!! No colace or M.O.M.effect with the figs 😂😂😂🤣
Cake looks delicious. Do you use purchased buttermilk or make your own? I have found that the store bought buttermilk seems to work better.
I buy it
