So a few things...
Archer came from a timeline where he was unable to save Arturias heart despite wanting to with all his might. You can basically say the date scene, what happens after that and the basement scene never happens essentially. Saber destroys the grail because she finds out it is evil, but does not reject her wish of erasing her past or her life.
This failure caused shirou to become imbalanced and distorted and overly desperate to save anyone not realizing his limits as a human.(critically, something the 3 shirous in fsn understand by the end of each route, in this circumstance fate shirou who rejected dubious allure of the grail to erase all the sad events)
This leads into archers backstory where after his 5th war in a situation where his powers were not enough as a human to save some people who were immediately in danger in front of him, he plead to the counterforce of humanity alaya to save those people.
And in exchange he would become a guardian after death (the same thing arturia made the contract with alaya to become in exchange for making the wish on the grail in her near death state to save her people) with his thinking being that he would be able to save countless people with the power alaya afforded(as we know it didn't go as he planned, and he fell into abject despair)
It is here you can see the paralells most clearly. Shirou was unable to save Saber from condemning herself as a guardian, and so he was unable to save himself from condemning himself to an eternity as alayas agent as well.
Fate shirou on the other hand, through saving saber saves himself. And despite going through similar pain as archer, he never regretted his path despite being worn down. He never became alayas agent as he was content with his own limitations despite realizing the same things archer did about life in general. Because he was not following after saving people hollowly to make himself happy like archer did. But because he was following after Arturia, and her own example of a hero, the thing he find so much beauty in to begin with. And that conviction and love was enough to reward him after essentially being put through the ringer countless times. And her waiting was also rewarded, as the one thing in life she felt was important for her own self and not for everyone else. Truly a beautiful epilogue that wraps around for a perfect circle from where we began.
Another small note. Where they are in the end is a place called Avalon. Where king Arthur is said to go after his death. It is located not in the afterlife (although souls in this case can exist there) but in the reverse side of the world, where all the supernatural shit went after the logic and science of the modern era supplanted medieval mystical times.
Normally it's impossible to go there unless your a special existence related to the planet itself. But Shirou was allowed passage there by Merlin, who saw their story and felt they deserved an satisfying end to their bittersweet tale. What a bro right?

Roa went there too where he met arcueid for the first time ( avalon is just one name of many for the inner sea of the planet)
A little detail they do hint but do not directly confirm is that Merlin does not just tells Artoria his “prophecy” regarding meeting Shirou, but he actually was just establishing the conditions for him to be able to open the path to Avalon. When Shirou dies eventually after the Saber route, Merlin leads his soul to Avalon. I believe they actually more or less confirm this in a licensed manga.
The song that plays in the epilogue is called The End of a Dream. Sadly, the singer, Eri Kawai, passed away in the early 2000s.
I agree og Fate is probably one of the best VN I’ve read, considering how long it’s been since I read it i still get hit in the feel’s when their epilogue happens. Giving Shirou and Saber thier reunion in Avalon sends tears down my face each time. I really enjoyed your playthru and commentary. Seems like I need to replay this myself soon.

I think I agree, this Story is probably my favorite piece of fiction that I have read/seen as well. I would even agree with your "ranking" of the routes, but of course they really are connected and it is difficult to say one route is better than another.
And Last Episode never fails to make me teary-eyed... Saber best girl for me :)
Just so you know, the Shirou that was able to enter able and reunite with Saber was the Fate route Shirou and not EMIYA.
Also, EMIYA originated in a timeline similar to the Fate route, where he was able to understand Saber, but was unable to save her heart. And because of that, he went 200% on the hero of justice path, ending with him making the pact with the Counter Force.
However, Fate route Shirou, while he lived very similar to Archer, he never did the pact to become a CG. Thanks to that he was able to reunite with Saber eventually.
Is sad, but EMIYA is totally screwed. He literally cant escape from being a Guardian.
I'm sure he is fine he is helping Multiple protagonists and different stories and having his own adventures with them.
Expanded lore explains that Heroic Spirits do get influenced by compounded records from their summons (so long as there are no curses or systems deleting the records, like Hassan of Serenity’s curse). EMIYA specifically has shown in later summons that he made peace with being a Guardian since he knows other versions of himself overcame his fatal flaws.

@@blink14k I mean, that undermines the entire epiphany Archer reaches at the end of the route. I don’t think the story means for us to cry further for Archer’s fate, as he makes peace with it. Yes, he is stuck in the cycle as a cleaner, but he no longer regrets walking the path (since he was reminded exactly why he held those ideals, as he had come to believe he was merely imitating Kiritsugu).

Yes, he made peace with his path, but that doesn't change he Is stuck doing what he hates the most for eternity

Finnally got around to watching this! It's been great watching along as you play this masterpiece and provide some of the most insightful commentary of the let's plays I've watched. Though I think many people are blinded by the last portion of Last Episode, ignoring the recap of the Fate route with no meaningful commentry, I'll admit the pay off to the relationship between Saber and Shriou is emotionally resident (even as someone who generally prefers bittersweet endings). You might have seen it mentioned before but there's actually a manga version of Last Episode, which removes the recap and further expands Shirou and Sabers mindsets before reuniting.
Looking forward to Hollow Attaraxia, Tskuihime (My personal favourite of the Nasuverse works) and whatever content you make on the channel.

After Fate Extra, could you do the original Tsukuhime VN? It's a lot easier to play surprising. As there is only one version you don't have to decide what patches and version to have on. (Expect one that changes the music.)
You just have to download the only English version. I think it's a better written novel and it's the one that started it all.
Nasu wrote the Kara no Kyokai novels first first, but he was having trouble getting them published. So it was Tuskihime that got him and his freinds the recognition to start Type Moon and hire more staff.
Since it was made before Type Moon was a company, it's actually surprisingly well made considering the time period and the fact it was an indie game made by some college roommates.
He has it in plans, ye

@@whateverwhatever4476 I know. Also, I just think it's smarter. People can get burnt out on Fate, so I always recommend Tsukihime before F/HA. That way when you go back to F/HA the characters feel like old friends you haven't seen in a while.
Can u do the tsukihime remake visual novel it is very good not completed as there are only 2 routes completed in terms of developing
He still do it one day surely. But it will take time for him to go through things at his own pace. Just be patient
