- In today's Episode of Let's Play Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel we reach the conclusion of the route and get the true end. While bittersweet the true ending was so cathartic and made me very happy. Illya is without a doubt a special character who I will always love and be grateful for. Her sacrifice will always be remembered.

Considering you've finnished all the primary content, I wanted to mention something you've touched upon in the last couple of episodes: Fate as a metanarrative. A major reason why Anime adaptations have failed to capture the VN is how each route builds on the last and toward the next, in obvious ways like the dailectic arround Shirou's ideal (introducing the flaws within, accepting them and rejecting the contradiction outright), but also in how Nasu uses player knowlege in the narrative. Elements are introduced without explicit explanation because the player can intuit based on prior events, characters act upon information only they and player know, etc. Fate is such a brilliant use of the VN format I could honestly write a dissertation on the subject.
Sone anime projects have dabbled with the idea of adapting all routes consecutively, but it is hard to pull off with a massive novel like this.
Absolutely agree. I've always noted just how flawlessly and how much nasu has innovated using the VN format.

Shirou's conviction was always about his determination to save others and guilt over being saved himself, it is only fiting that in the finnal route where he abandons his ideals in order to make it out alive he needs to be saved by Illya, then by Rin with her pendant and then by Rider actually retrieving him.
In a final twist Illya got the Shirou doll she always wanted back in Fate, but it was a good thing :D
Fun fact hf normal ending was gonna be the only ending but nasu thoughts this route deserve Happy ending😇😇😇
I wonder if Illya was going to appear in the normal end in some capacity then because the dress of heaven was seeded way WAY back.
@@GrimgoreIronhide It was going to appear in the illya route. HF is a mashup of the two.
@@r.k845 Well, the illya route was discarded fairly early, before the Shinji route was. Unless he chose to make the true ending really early there should have been fairly long time when the illya route was already folded into the Heavens Feel but the true ending was not yet planed.
I would imagine that Illya would have shown up in the normal ending in some capacity in this original story layout.
Was this true? Because judging by Kagetsu Tohya’s follow ups to Tsukihime’s endings, you can tell Nasu dislikes Tragedy for the sake of tragedy. He is very adamant in giving hope at the very end. Even in the regular Fate ending, Saber returns to her original place in history and rests in peace. It is sad, but it is also right and she accepts it because she did all she could and fulfilled her obligations. She dies happy.
@@lenleon3699 Normal end isn't tragedy for the sake of tragedy. It's built up by the entire route that Shirou will be punished and take sakura's sins. "True" end ruins HFs themes for a easy to swallow ending.
41:41 The 'Puppet Maker' line is in reference to a number of early Nasuverse works, Mahoutsukai no Yoru (or Witch on the Holy Night) and Kara no Kyoukai (The Garden of Sinners). The former was released in 2011 as a VN but was heavly based on a short novel which Nasu wrote in High School, the latter was a series of Light Novel released as a soft sequel and then adapted into 8 Movies by UFOTable
Witch on the Holy Night will also be recieving an offical English Translation in December of this year, making it the first Type/Moon VN to be released outside Japan.

There are scenes you didn't get that are not bad ends by the way. Some of them are really funny/foreshadowing other routes.

Fun fact: That puppet maker rin was talking about was Touko Aozaki from Kara no Kyoukai and Mohoyo and that great sorcerer was Zelretch who can use the 2nd true magic.

unless you recorded them already, Bad End 38, the one where you DONT tell Rider "You`ll be on Sakura`s side till the very end" is probably the best to end on.

First time commenting here, but I've been watching for a while. Congratulations on passing the Fate initiation ritual and welcome to the rabbit hole that is Type Moon! Personally it never gets better than this, but most of it is still really worth falling into, even if it takes years and takes over your life (?) Seriously though, this was a very good playthrough, maybe the most emotional one I've seen of it, in a good way.

@@computerworm5211 I mostly mean the weird purposefully over-the-top Oujo-sama vibe. I mean, she comes from a family that claims to love beauty and be elegant, yet her idea of elegance is to suplex the opponent from the top rope. Nasu even semi-joked that in the Apocrypha universe she and Sakura (who is an Edellfelt in that alternate universe) are tag team wrestlers, so you kind of need a VA capable of hamming it up hard.

you are now in a very unique position, not many youtubers played the VN before watching the UBW anime. You COULD react to UBW abriged AND get all the references before checking the oficial anime. No preassure, just an idea.
I would love to check the anime and movie adaptations one day. I think i'd be one of very very few to do that after reading the vn.

Tsukihime remake translation is basically finished and mahoyo is getting an official translation by the end of the year. Play hollow first and then you can choose between the two.
So, as you decided you will be doing the Fate Series first until Extra, i say it will be great to go to the very beginning of Nasu path with Mahoyo VN after that. Thankfully its Remastered English version unprecedently in history of Notes (Type-Moon) will be out in December 2022. Hopefully someone will fix the translation fast if needed.
