I don't know if I would say it was the greatest, but it certainly was darn impressive! I listened to this on NES and figured out how to play it on piano. So....I don't know...maybe you're on to something! hahaha
To this day I still gasp whenever I see that refueling rod connect. That game is freaking stressful lol and it's even worse with the silence in that sequence in the jp version
Wow the music makes this game so much better and exciting when it's in combat, seriously it's worth like three thousand points but the points mean nothing. Also, 29:00 is a solid minute of heart-racing terror, man, I was about to lose my shit. And is it standard Navy procedure to refuel at almost twice the speed of sound? That sounds dangerous. You could say it is a... zone where danger might happen.
@@Tim85-y2q Sega's "After Burner" (1987) depicted the same thing when you finish one of the early levels. The player re-arms in what amounts to a cutscene of connecting to the "flying gas station"

@@ThrilloVanHouten Judging by the changes here (the engine sound, the music, the catapult on launch, the "island" visible at landing, the "mission complete" screen, end credits...) it seems that the US version was released incomplete.
I wonder why they didn't have the danger zone theme play during the flying in the American version. The only times I believe it plays in the US version is when in demo mode, and the refueling.
@@GaryBeltz Yeah, the jet engine sounds like a real jet engine recording being played through the DPCM sound channel of the sound chip, whereas the US version just uses the random noise generator sound channel.
I always raged at the fact I could never land. Only twice I managed to successfully land. Few other times I would just push up on the control pad and see what happens. Always laughed that the plane would overshoot the carrier lol

Great choice kind of topical, think there was a sale of a bunch of stuff for this game. guy who bought the stuff i guess just really liked the game. Was in some news thing i watched.
It's gonna sound weird but I kinda like the other versions better. That song works better in short bursts like during the refueling sequences than for like 10 minutes at a time where it gets tiring
I've already seen Top Gun 2, it's just like the first film, except with better camera angles, and Val Kilmer kicks the bucket. It's going to be a big hit, but in the end, it's still just another remake of the 80's.
Linuxpunk81 I remember Silent Service as a kid being so difficult, yet I wanted so bad to be good at it. I think you needed a degree in Mathematics to progress in that game, lol!
Greatest NES intro ever!

I remember renting this for a weekend. Played the crap out of it. Good times.
I screamed HELL YES! the first time I landed on the carrier and had a successful refuel
I like how no matter where the target is, the carrier is always close by. Even when the enemy is on land.
That theme music fills me with nostalgia
I used to own this game and never saw the ending. The ending is way better than I expected
To this day I still gasp whenever I see that refueling rod connect. That game is freaking stressful lol and it's even worse with the silence in that sequence in the jp version
Nostalgic. Played this game so much as a kid.

I'm honestly more curious how they managed to reload the missile payload through the refueling hose.

Now do one of Top Gun 2.

Between this and the addition of the DPCM engine sound, it's clear the JPN version was developed after the USA version.

I was a pro at water landing
I don't know about you guys, but I enjoy the soundtrack a lot.
Oh Yeea it Fuckin Rocks
I play this game a lot in the 90s

Just look up the instructions on landing on Google and it's not as hard as it normally is.

I sucked at this game, but the landings were stressful yet satisfying in the cut scene.
Wow NES has FPS flight game !!
Hound missile and machinegun is the best option for final boss.
Ah a classic. I never understood the need to take anything but hounds though. Since 1 shot kills any enemy that isn't a boss.
Hounds can't even one shot certain ships. Best strategy would be take the middle one..spam till your first refuel..then conserve till boss maybe
Should have put it in the water after completing the final objective, just for laughs. :P
DANGER ZONE!

*reads description* you get a plague if you top the high score? that's not good!
STALE MEME lolz
Ah yes, the special de-motivational plague... plaque.
Reminds me of this is the only video game im fond of playing it.i completed the whole mission.except the part 2 of this. therss even a part3.
One of my favourite games too. I couldn't figure out how to land, though. Part 2 was easier to master, IMO😊
Proper background music haha
Fire, fire, fire, fire..Fck...Fckfire...(AVGN)
1:48 Music name ?
It would have been nice if the music played throughout the game in the Western versions...
maybe the license to have the music played is too expensive or they didn't bother getting it legal due to whatever reasons.
It played during the demo's game play and has the 10 second loop refueling the plane phase.
AAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

Actually, I haven't even fully checked out the first film yet.
Also, cool ending!

*It's not yet released lol.*
I remember when I got my first nintendo my dad played it too sometimes, but he only played games about fighter jets like this and 1943.
starofjustice1 1943 was my 1st game I remember getting as a kid!
Mine too, he actually beat this game. His other favorite was Silent Service.

Jeremy Bear You did actually need to know basic trig to really get good at Silent Service lol
i never seen that game before
Oh wow it has music.
This top gun has music on the flight...other top guns has no music...on the flight just the sound of the jet
In the other versions, the music plays on the refueling part and on the demo.
Refueling is harder than landing
