I always think it's funny how ppl talk about this game because I owned it as a kid. Took me almost a year, but I learned how to land the plane, could do it almost every time. The screen actually tells you what to do: You're supposed to keep the altitude near 200 and the speed near 288 (pointing the nose up slows down but ascends, and pointing the nose down speeds up and descends. You need to find the sweet spot and remain in that range). And then adjust the direction when the game tells you too. Like, if it says "LEFT!! LEFT!!" you go a little bit to the left until the message disappears. Another trick is that if you fly UP and RIGHT during the entire stage, you won't get hit by ANYTHING as all enemies will disappear under the screen. The game gets very boring, tho, just pressing down-left on the joystick for close to 5 minutes waiting for the boss to arrive, LOL
When the US Navy retired the F-14, they also destroyed all the intact airframes that weren't destined for museums. When it was introduced in 1975, the Imperial Iranian Air Force also bought F-14s and AIM-54 Phoenix missiles. After the first batch was delivered, the Islamic Revolution happened and most of the American-trained pilots and technicians fled the country. Obviously, the US Government couldn't get away with selling more planes to Iran after that, but they did sell them missiles (see "Iran-Contra affair").
Ahhh classic NES games. Four levels long, first level's easy, rest are hard as balls. Three lives and some continues if you were lucky. Good times, until level 2-3, then the rage comes.
I'd hunt my brother down and beat the shit out of him, when the 3rd stage came along. After smashing my controller and punching wall. Maybe some rage-crying, too.
Having only played Top Gun the Second mission, Getting to see the first game like this actually explains a lot. The landings in Second Mission dont seem to be much better.
Most of the game is essentially an on-rails shooter, so you can't really go faster, just make it more interesting. You don't actually have to fight any of the enemies other than the final boss, just keep your nose pointed up the entire time and everything flys beneath you. The refueling and landing is based on a timer, not enemies defeated.
See kids? Even the mighty Konami from back in the day wasn't infallible. This was such a turd of a game. Hell it even had a revision released during it's run. Something to do with the copyright credits on the title screen or somethin because CLEARLY that's what was wrong with the game...
What a horse shit ending, for one of the most difficult games, ever. Amazing work though, gamer. Fun fact....when our jets are refueling in real life, that music comes on, in the cockpit.
Surprised the TAS could even land the damn plane
I can land the plane almost every time I try
Let's be honest: we've been waiting our whole lives to see how it's done.
So true!

I figured those tips out too. Very boring to just fly up, but it was the only way I could even even come close to beating the game.
Owned this game as a kid. I’ve never seen the 4th level
I remember when this game first came out brings back a lot of memories. Thanks.
My brother used to play this a lot back then, awesome memories.

Top Gun now on 4K Ultra Bluray HD!
Спасибо тебе, восьмибитный бог. Я впервые увидел не только финал игры но и адекватное приземление.
I always figured intentionally crashing the plane during landing would save some time
Sure is mighty nice of the enemy not to attack you while refeuling.
Wait, you can land the plane??

The landings in Second Mission dont seem to be much better.
The Japanese version is better, it has music in the missions
AVGN wishes he could land like this
Remember after burner?
Friends - how do you play inverted?
Me - nes top gun.
If there was a settings option, I never knew, cause I was still learning English
26:53 it's me or the pilot is giving the finger to the crowd? xD
Woww🔥Top Gun UP..
They shouldve remastered it on the snes it wouldve been awesome but this is still impressive
I always crash the plane back then 😂
26 mins for a TAS run? I barely make it to the second stage of this game, and even a damn computer needs 26 minutes to finish this?

So why are there other videos of this being beaten in under 25 minutes?

Most of the enemies are skippable if you fly to the top or bottom barrier, makes this game so boring though.
I don’t watch a TAS video, but when I do I skip to the end

AVGN lol
The refueling and Landing!!! Ughhhh
