Mastering 360 flips in 10 days Day 10 didn't not go as I would've hoped. I bruised my foot and had to take nearly a week off so all the 360 flip progress I'd made slowly faded as I waited for my foot to get better. Injury aside I was able to land some solid 360 flips but I missed our goal of landing 5 360 flips in a row on day 10.

I started landing 360 flips again because of this series. You probably inspired hundreds of skaters to land them so I say that’s a success.
Nice
Really good series man, everytime you land it your brain is subconsciously learning something. I think you should re try the 5 in a row in a couple of weeks I think you've got it!
Absolutely! Muscles are a brain too
Sometimes we fail. Sometimes we aspire for greatness and fall short. But that's just life! Props to you for daring to be great and filming it all for the world to see. I've got no doubt you'll get there eventually; if not today, then tomorrow. Keep pushing!
Inspirational bro fr i quit skating like 5/6 years ago cuz of life decisions and i regret it so much. I just got back on my board about 2 days ago and I’m relearning sum tricks with ur help, I really appreciate your attention to detail and sharing every little secret to a trick. I wish I had this guidance wen I was younger, keep it up man ur doing a lot for the skate community
Hell yeah man! Getting back into is so hard hope you get your tricks back fast!
5:17 after years of trying this trick, I finally understand it. Nobody has ever mentioned it. The next make is for you my man!
Gife the back foot truck almost a wheel bite to the side where you pop before taking off. Also think of a vertical rotation instead of a shove it, it helps not underrotating
I'm sure it's frustrating but this is a great representation of what skateboarding is and why only people who can deal with disappointment and failure, and also shinners, keep at it. Props for not throwing your board like I would.
This has been a great series to watch. I can definitely relate to a lot of the battles you've faced over the course of this journey and appreciate the hard work an dedication.
Love this video, showing all the misses really keeps the process honest. I appreciate that.
I have been working on tres for months (only skate Saturdays). It feels like it could go at any moment. I will try scooping the way you said and opening my shoulders more. Stay Rad Sir.
Dude thanks a lot for this video series. Learned a bunch and am the closest I every been to landing this trick. Understand it much better! You did 40 of them at one point in a session! This was a huge success. Probably just was overworked and tired but on a better day, when fresh, you’ll probably do 20 in a row with no pressure. Thanks again all your videos are most helpful.
No pain no gain my man💯 awesome job and just like multiple people you’ve helped me with my tre’s, continue with that progress and pick another trick you really want and do another session 🤘🏻💪🏻
I could flip tre's everytime, but struggled to keep it under my feet... started putting much more weight on my front foot... really helps keep it straight underneath you, eliminating the need to jump sideways... also looks way better when someone throws a tre and lands on the same line they started, IMO.
Figured I'd throw it out there.
Thanks for the video!
Don’t give up! Your persistence and continually focused honing of your tre flip technique are inspirational and genuinely helpful. Please don’t allow the visceral disappointment of a difficult day/week to dishearten or discourage you. As a viewer it is clear to see that you *will* ultimately master this trick, it’s just a matter of a bit more time.
…and, with sufficient patience and persistence of my own, I adamantly hope to accomplish the same.
…eventually… lol
🛹⏳✅😅🏁🙌🏼
Really appreciate your content in general, and specifically the demonstration you gave illustrating precisely where to aim the back corner of the tail when ‘pop-scooping’ the tre flip is notably instructive. Thank you for all your time, effort, and dedication to your channel, your subscribers, and the craft of skateboarding. You’re doing a good job.
🫵🏼🏆🙏🏼
Hey man thanks for all the encouragement and for watching the whole series really appreciate it!
I can relate to everything about this struggle. Keep at it Joe! 💪 Love the videos. 💯
Been waiting for day 10 😂 Great series man! There are so many factors to skating well and especially managing to nail the same trick over and over. I wouldn't beat yourself up too much. There is definitely huge progress with your tres and I"m sure you can keep building!
Jus learnt tres properly and i think watching you go through the process of mastering them really showed my brain how possible this trick is, still always a battle thi
Great progress ! For me, bending my knees a bit more before poping lets me jump higher an helps for consistency, and I think that's why your left foot wont come on the the board after you flip it right (sometimes, spending more time on the air lets you understand the situation better) Anyway, great work as always, hope there will be a day 11
I feel like the ones you landed that were the cleanest you had your shoulders closed off more parallel to the board. The ones that you did land with your shoulders open you had to kick turn out of. That was my experience with tre flips, when I closed off my front shoulder they came a lot easier. I know that's the opposite of some other advice you've gotten but that's what worked for me.
i think there are kinda two ways of landing them from my experience, once where you jump towards toe-side with closed shoulders (like joe is doing here) and the ones where you jump up and forward with open shoulders.
Been a sick series great effort, they are hard to lock in but once you do you don't lose them! keep at them and it will click!
What a solid breakdown of how to spin and flip this trick for someone like myself who doesnt understand. Thanks Joe. You always come in clutch for the "common man"
Haha thanks G!
Salute on the journey and dedication. Got me wanting to hop back on my board after a decade plus
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 we need another episode of this
Ive been trying them alongside you, im not close but you inspire me to still try
good job bro don’t try to hard u got this just keep us notified
Love your vids bro, I have been learning with you and have yet to land my first tee but I’m still pushing
I did trays for years , when I first turn up to the park sometimes I just do them first pop . Other days if I wasn't doing them right I would just stand on the spot and flip the board around on the spot whilst other foot was on the ground , works grew for you muscle memory . Pyramids make them much easier I find . You don't even need to flick that front foot , just find that sweet spot and give it heaps lol .
I was the one that sent you the video about heel side wheel and where to pop.
here is what your gonna do. ...Your gonna add a bonus day.. Im sending you the remaining pieces to the puzzle.
Hey man the 360 flip is coming along for you !
I think that just doing some normal warm ups and not focusing on the pop shove it would help. Just cruise around and do some of your staples. Trying a bunch of pop shove it’s ahead of time will get you into a mind set of under rotation. Just cruising around and warming up on staple tricks will open up your mind a little bit more.
Also, when I pop 360 flips, I move my back foot a little further over from where you have it (towards the toe side). I try to think about popping straight down while scooping. Sounds a little weird, but it keeps me from missing my good pop.
I can’t wait to see you back at it. Even though it sucks to not have it yet, I think it’s a good thing for people to see the frustration that comes with wanting to master a trick, because as most of us know, it’s not easy.
Great breakdown mate ❤️ 🛹 👏
Loved the series joe! You should make a whole “Road to..” series on skate tricks you want to master. Mainly just do what you love, bro🔥
you inspired me to work on treflips! been trying for a bit over a week now. i'm very close but i havent figured out how to land both feet yet
This series definitely makes me wanna challenge my consistency. Also, I remember going through the process for Tre flip. I know it’s overrated but they’re my favorite flip trick to do as well as fs half cab heel
This was a fun series!
really good progress, I stopped trying when I was learning this trick for probably two years and I could never figure it out.
Tre flips on flat are my go to. In my opinion you got everything down except your back foot position. Try putting your toe more into the pocket, it looks like it's just an inch too far back on the tail. If you see this I hope it helps and good luck mastering the flips!
Keep at it with the treflip man, once in a while do an update and don’t stop you’re making progress, trust the process! Love from C.R❤
I like your tip about thinking of them like pop shuvits!
I will jump 2 feet high to catch my pop shuvits but I am alway too lazy to jump up and commit with my scooping leg on tre flips.
Keep going! It doesn’t have to be ten days I still want to see you get 5 in a row❤
Great job Joe you didn't get your goal but you made a mountain of progress inspiring stuff
The video we all have been waiting for
Yo, so you need to move your front foot over to the left a little bit. Also Is helpful if you know pressure flips. if your foot is too far off your balance will be off and you push your board to far to your left when you spin. So you are turning to the right when you bend down due to your front foot being unstable. Its all about a better scoop and the best foot position that makes you feel sturdy will help you scoop perfectly.
I got my first tre this week after trying for ever , it just randomly clicked in my brain how to distribute my body weight when going for the scoop. Your vid had me inspired to learn them so i went ham till i got it! Learned it fakie too
I love it
When I was learning tre flips, I realize that I did better tres when I would skate off a bank. So I just drew a line on flat ground and pictured the line as the top of a bank launch. It helped me keep my brain and body focused on forward momentum. Now when I do tres I always think there is a line and just keep imaging I’m skating a bank. It might be a mental thing but it worked for me.
You’re scoop is so much better than it used to be, I think now it’s time to focus on getting your front foot up and out of the way, think when you are kicking your front foot out 45 degrees in front for the flick, you also need to be bringing your front foot upward as well
I think there needs to be some kind of reflection on the mental aspect of this journey because you can focus on technique all day, but if you're not in the right head space for skating it's going to be tough to progress. Following are just some things that come to mind. Did you have anyone doing this challenge with you to create some healthy competition? Did you have any kind of ritual that would get you in the zone and forget about whatever is distracting you? Was anyone on the sesh actively hyping you up, were people on the sesh invested in your success? After you lost confidence, what did you do to shake it off and believe in yourself again--did you adjust your goals in a positive way? Did you get inspired by watching others succeed at tre flips or did it bring you down?
I think that skateboarding is sometimes looked at as this lone wolf activity, but the majority of good skaters always have a crew of positive people pushing each other. Even the skaters who are casually good, many of them went to Woodward or some other skate camp/lesson and had that kind of structure to grow them. Sometimes the solo sesh is good to focus on rehabbing a trick, this video series proves that, but in my experience, having homies on the session makes forgetting about whatever negative stuff you got on your mind go away a lot easier.
Anyways it was fun, you'll have tres dialed soon enough. 🍻
You got great passion, if you want to try something a little different try slightly hanging the toes of your back foot for a better scoop
Move your back foot forward towards the concave of the board. You're getting pop but not enough scoop/powerslide motion. Remember tre-flips aren't done like a traditional flip trick.
The problem I see is that you turn heel side a lot while setting up, making you have to spin the board even more to make up for the amount that your turning. The ones that you don’t turn too much on are the ones you landed, I think that’s partially because of your foot position too. You don’t need to have your front foot so low on the board you’re making yourself off balance and causing yourself to turn away from the direction you need to board to spin. Put your front foot higher up and maybe even with more foot on the board and try to keep rolling straight and I really think you’ll have a much easier time doing them.
Also what i saw
Yassss! 🚀
I bet it would have gone better with a new deck and grip! Your series has been motivation for me to get better at them too though!
Big respect for posting results for Day 10. Some people watching these vids, can really benefit from witnessing the progress through struggle. 🫡
Thanks G! Glad you think it wasn't a waste!
Hey Joe, I saw the video when you try to flip it like Yuto, and when a played it on slow mo I found your problem i think.
FIrst is your pop, you need to grab the side of the board with your toes and pop/push with more energy,
second, your flip is a really short and slow movement, so you keep your feet on the board for too long and it doesnt allow your board to rotate at the right speed and energy, you try to kick it like a varial flip, but you need a much faster and harder flip for a 360.
If you slow it down you can see your leg under your knee stays in the same position, there is only a little ankle kick in your flip. kick it like crazy and jump higher at the same time.
I hope this helps!
Do 10 more days! U got this bro
i suggest curling your back toes more on the edge of the board to grip the side of the tail to help throw the board with less effort
Great series nonetheless Joe!
Hey man I thought this shit was rad🤙🏼🤙🏼 im a returning skater trying to get my first 360 flips. Keep pushing.
I think your Tre flip is underrotated most of the times.
Try scoop harder (like really use all the toe muscle and give it a little pop so it can go higher), jump higher so you have more time to catch it, and close your shoulder a little for the landing.
those 3 tips always helped me so much on my tre flip and i've landed it almost every try nowadays. Hope this helps. Keep killing it, bro
youll get this one locked in soon i know it!
bros got it
At the start of this series, I could only really do one in like 20 tries, though I've been working on tre flips and only tre flips this entire month. I did 3 in a row twice already, though they take quite a lot of effort to spin around. I feel like once you can really boil down and understand what flips the board, to the point where you can do it effortlessly like it's second-nature, all you have to do is focus on spotting the griptape and putting two feet on, making them extremely easy like all the good tre-flippers say they are.
Id like to see the series continue till you get it
Dude you did well. When you don’t have a trick dialed it takes a lot more effort to make it happen, and you’re going to get tired faster. Most people cannot develop sponsored skater level technique in 10 days. Come at it fresh and do a half hour each day, building those leg muscles and refining the technique. It might take you some months or even a year before you have the trick on lock.
Yea boii have a nice day everyone!
Been there before bro. Try the Prod scoop. That help me a lot.
One more day but this time go on fresh legs you got this
When you jump on a tre flip you want to focus on jumping straight up not at an angel it makes it way easier
Bang
Hi, from Europe. I'm learning 360 flip these weeks, I'm not there yet, but I'm improving. And I have an advice for you. I watched quite a number of videos on this trick. I can see one mistake you are constantly doing even in this video: While going down to you knees before the pop, you lean too much heelside, mostly stumping it too much with your front foot, resulting in your board bent heelside. YOU MUST LEAN TOESIDE (!) and that means pushing down mostly with your rear foot. The reason is that toe side lean helps to preload the board "against" the flick and that way the flip works with less effort. (The board springs against you front foot). Similar thing is valid for kickflip: a bit toe side and "backward" pop as if pushing the tail to the opposite side you are riding. Hey, I am much older than you, skatring after 20 years (done many years snowboard, surf).
Sadly you aren’t the one making the trick tip
thats some serious muscle strain when trying to learn it fast
Grip the edge with your toes more in the pocket. Take the “flip” out of your mind and think impossible. Also don’t let your board turn the opposite way before you pop that’s why you’re not getting the rotation on the scoop. All one motion! thinking about each one separate is no good.
Shaped a few tres yesterday. I cant seem to do it without having to jump forward like 2 feet. I think my scoop isnt correct. Most rotation is off my front foot so it flings the board far away
Well tried though!!!! Keep it up Joe
Don’t trip on not meeting the challenge dude, honestly would have felt kinda unreal if you “mastered” the trick haha i kinda would like to see you and your crew of hommies mob around to some street spots or something for a day, always curious to see what other’s local spots are like. First time i went to LA i just went spot gazing talking about who did what haha
i think u gotta shift your weight backwards a little bit, and be more on your toes before you pop, and you'll start landing them every time
you should take a look at day 1-10 and count the ratio of makes to attempts. 5 in a row is a super lofty goal - if you have a 1 in 100 make rate on day 1, your chance of 5 in a row is 0.01^5 = 1/10,000,000,000 (1 in 10 billion) chance. if you improve your make rate to 10/100, that's 0.1^5 = 1/100,000 (1 in 100,000). even though in one session you're 10 times more likely to land one, you're still unlikely to see a 5 in a row make (even 3 in a row would be hard to see). find your make rate in a session and you'll realize how much you've improved, rather than fixating on 5 in a row. they look way closer than day 1, you hit 2 in a row 2 or 3 or more times, i'd say for a 10 day challenge you crushed it
N. Utah... where is this park? Haven't seen it. Have you seen the park in Hyrum- it's a beauty.
Honestly I think why you struggle is because you turn into your tre! I noticed on the tres you don’t turn into aggressively they are clean
Have you tried shorter wheelbase? I think 14+ wb and thunder trucks are a bad combination for treflips...A 14wb deck or Indy/Aces will improve your tres a lot.
I have not tried a 360 flip in many years. If the weather is on my side tomorrow or the day after i’m doing 5 in a row. Does it count even if they look like dog shit or do they have to look perfect ? In my head i’m able to do them but in reality it will be different 😂 I’m 43 years old and i’m heavy as fuck. 103 kilos so i might be way to confident by saying that i will land 5 in a row in one day, but i need all the hype i can get.
If your goal was to help your community learn tre flips I'd say mission accomplished. I'm certainly a lot closer to getting this 👍
School should be all year around 😂
Please do a day 11 when you've got them on lock
ahaha, you didnt reach ur goal but that just means we get more content!
no, i dont mean to poke at u lol but the series was great and id love to see more like it!!!
I'm heavier than I've ever been it def makes skating harder
I feel like your weight placement is a bit too much hunched forward over the toes, maybe try leaning a bit more heelside? I heard someone say that it almost feels like you're gonna fall backward when you treflip. Just something i picked up on, otherwise you're doing great :)
something I can hear is that you seem to be holding your breath as you pop the flip and exhale when you land. Try breathing out as you initially pop up and try not to look straight down at the board, look forward a little.
I’m gonna take the blame as his sister for his foot injury. He was playing Whiffle Ball with my boys in my yard and injured his foot there. 😅 sorry everyone. My bad. 😂 So proud of you Joe for sharing your ups and downs with everyone. Trying is the sign of someone aiming for success, the timeline of that is gonna be different for everyone! 🎉💗🎉
When I try my treflips, my backfoot comes comes up to the side of my body when landing? Any idea why, it’s like I can’t stay straight kinda
Just jump straight up, don’t jump sideways like he’s doing.
its been a long journey, like ten days . ahahhaha
Look dude: I know it's rhetorical that being a 'couch-commentator' is exponentially easier than doing it oneself - nevertheless... ADVICE WISE: in my tactfully humble opinion - 'Try not to overthink it so much and avoid focussing on granular semantics, .... - Rather just throw-down and scoop that tail! Again, just opt away from thinking about the technique of other Pro skaters etc... . Everyone will pop and flick differently because everyone has their own individual mechanics. Yes, indeed there is a core method/technique however just do what feels best and works for you.
Gifted hater’s feedback will help you a lot. You are putting so much weight on your heel side when you crouch down, center your weight over the board and stay in a straight line. The way you are doing it requires an over rotation which kills the hope for a wet trey
where did he give me advice?
@@localjoe his stream on patroon
@@localjoehe was kind of a dick about it lol, but that’s his thing and the advice was good
i think that little tick tack before pop the trick makes you loose the balance, you know?
You got it Joe. You just need to have a little more of your scooping toe off of the board and monkey gripping it. Have your weight over that side of the board.
to get something on lock really takes more than 10 days usually.
Just jump!
angle backfoot like front foot and keep shoulders more straight
The belly button mic👌
