for tre flips i don’t even think about flicking. i just think about scooping, jumping, & extending my front foot to catch the tre. not anything crazy but catching with ur front foot stops the rotation and makes it easier to land/catch. it’ll give it that extra like half of a flip & ur back foot will do the other half flip/360 shuv. also keeping most of ur weight on ur back foot & staying over the board helps like he said. i find sometimes too if i’m not getting the rotation hanging my back toes off more makes it way easier to scoop & get the full 360 faster

Its 100% the jump, your scoop is fire, ur flick is fire, your setup and stance are fire, its literally just that u dont put enough into your jump, and by jump i dont even necessarily mean "jump", i mean u dont bring ur knees up high enough and keep them there, its a hard habit to break and it feels uncomfortable when u first do it, but after a while it becomes natural muscle memory. I used to have that problem with kickflips

    1. Don’t be afraid, you want it really bad so it gives u a slight hesitation, your thinking too hard just imagine you doing it, then try simple.
    2. You don’t have to do this but it will help skate with leg weights on & do 1 - 2 mins a day of jump roping ( I use to think I really sucked, & actually I wasn’t clearing the board, now I do buttery ass 3flps & Hardflips

Taking skating and health seriously when I was younger was my downfall. I did Muay Thai for six years(29-35) and now, I'm learning and landing tricks I never did or even tried. It's all about physicality too. Not that anyone a certain size can't skate at all. But gravity and physicality play a big role in big tricks like 3flips or even just a simple high ollie.

-Keep your weight and shoulders straight Dont lean forward
-Keep your foot angled not flat
-(Trick tip dont try to change everything your body does, adjust to what you do naturaly)
If you can do it one time you can do it as many times
    -Pop straight down(make contact)
    -Pop vertical
    -Find what works for you
-Bring your knees up (try to jump higher to give it more airtime)

I think it's not a proper squat (your bending with your back and end up compensating forward to not fall) so it makes jumping inefficient and tense. It's kinda what Maurio was alluding too when he suggested to load straight down and stay on top of it. Also, check out what muscles do what, the glutes, hip flexors and core are super important, If everything goes into the quads and hamstrings too much it can make you too tense to have fine control of the board.

So I think I found out something that would help you. Try some with your front foot more in the center of the board. Like between the bolts. When you have it so far back, it makes balancing harder and also kind of dampens the pop.
Also try to stay as stable as you can before you pop. That little last minute foot squiggle seems like it’s half of your issue.
I come to Smithfield sometimes if you ever want to catch a session.

It's not that your back is weak, it's because you lack hip flexibility and because of that you have to lean over your board to compensate for it. If you'd stretch and work on your vertical you'd be golden. Honestly at this point I'd just tell you to stick to hips and euro gaps. Everyone you landed they all were barely 3 inches off the ground. Cheers to another year of doing the same thing hoping for a different result.

I found learning pressure flips helped me understand where you needed to put your foot in the curb for the perfect scoop contact of a 360 flip. Then you use less of it if you are 360 flipping over a fun box or launching off something, and the same amount of pocket for flat and down stairs. Same applies for nollie or fakie 360 flips knowing and understanding the perfect spot for your foot is a huge cheat for these.
Also I see your board goes out to the right just before you pinch it, you would think they would help but that just means you are using even more energy to flip it. Stay straight and punch it from there.

pro tip, after scooping and jumping lean forward in the air and pretend you are going to jump in front of your nose, that way you land on top instead of back foot coming off behind your tail and your back foot lands on the bolts. this leaning forward (dipping your front shoulder) also stops you from shooting out backward (mr willy)

At a certain point, no amount of instruction will help you, you have to figure out your own body and how to manipulate it properly internally. Fundamentally it's just being able to combine the proper scoop WITH the proper jump. It's one thing to know what to do, it's another thing to actually get your body to do what you know needs to be done.

You can repeat the same thing a million times and never learn a trick if you're not thinking about it and analyzing what you're doing wrong, but it's not necessarily a verbally transferrable line of thinking, it's an internal comprehension of the actual way your brain is telling your muscles to move, how, and when.

Great vid! Love seeing the content.
Personally I don't think you have to jump that high for a Tre flip. I think you're getting it but maybe all the adjusting is throwing you off. Maybe do 3-5 that you just land, then do 2 that you try to style? When I learned Tre flip for a while I just took the ones I could get, after I felt comfortable landing them I started to adjust my feet for more pop, and style.
I also think a Tre flip requires some flick. If you watch videos of people doing them you can see the front foot stabilizes the board and when they pop it's into the front foot like it helps balance. At 6:16 when Maurio does a Tre flip you can see he is centered, then when he pops he flicks a little and transitions his weight towards his front foot.

Yeah man what’s missed in a lot of these comments is the fact that you can do a tre flip several ways. When I was young I learned tre flips with quite a bit of flick and did not do the whole monkey grip thing with the back foot. Now I do them primarily with the back and basically no flick. You definitely do not need to jump or pop high to do it. A lot of commenters don’t skate!

tighten them trucks a bit, so you don't have to focus so much on balancing. also try to over spin them consistently. just want you to scoop it quicker. one thing that is hard with tre flips is your shoulders want to turn because you scoop. i feel like you have to be light on your back foot until youre actually about to pop. tre flips dont need a hard flick to flip, 90% scoop 10% flick so your front foot can be a bit more in the middle of your board for balance.

  • @VikiFlip
    @VikiFlip Рік тому

Before popping you are rotating frontside. It seems to happen because your front toe is too far from the center of the board so so you center of gravity sits behind you. To compensate you flex your hips to move your head forward. That is why you could find difficult to just bend on your knees and pop the tre flup. In this way it helps you to flip better but it’s even the cause of the way you land it.
Suggestion: to correct the frontside deviation you should put your front toe closer (not) the center of the board. Now , in order to keep the balance , you should slightly rotate ‘the position’ of the spine. You can do it by rotating on hips or just using the spine.
If you correct the posture probably you should fine tune other movements to get it right but you will have set a good starting point.
    Hope it helps

I struggled with this trick for 3 years and I was doing it exactly how you do it…until one day I decided to relearn everything. The tips I can give you which I think will work because I literally struggled with the same things you struggle with is firstly make sure your feet aren’t close together even though it feels uncomfortable you’ll get used…I noticed that when your feet are too close together you put more weight on the front foot and that just makes it flip weird and the board stays behind. Putting your front foot slightly toward the Center allows you to balance like Maurio is saying(bending your knees and keeping your back straight. It makes the flick a and scoop a whole lot easier. And when scooping I pop first then twist my ankle towards my back wheel. Maybe this will help you

Hey Local Joe, I've been watching your treflip videos and I noticed a couple of things that stood out to me:
    1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from watching your treflips, it looks like you're using more of a knee-bend to generate that rotational power. That is, you're kicking your calf behind you to try to generate that 360 degree rotation.
In my opinion (and personal experience), the rotational power of the treflip doesn't come primarily from that knee-bend (calf kicking); but rather, it comes from the flicking of the ankle.
For example, check out Nyjah Huston's treflip here: ua-cam.com/video/yyI_QzVNsCM/v-deo.htmlsi=wkNgGOw9dr3e1HKB
Look at how little his back leg bends at the knee. His entire back leg is almost stiff straight. He barely kicks out his calf. But then look at his back ankle - you'll see that it's flicked out almost the way. That's because all of that rotation power is coming from his back ankle flicking.
Of course, not all pros have a stiff back leg (e.g. Mark Appleyard, Rodney Mullen), but I'm willing to bet that all of them generate most of the rotational power from that ankle flick.
    2. I noticed that you have a tendency to not pop your treflips - I get the impression that you're sort of rushing the motion of the backfoot. It's like you're a bit too concerned with the rotation, and not the pop. Sometimes, you press down on the tail halfway, but then immediately start trying to rotate the board even before the tail touches the ground.
I think you need to slow down the motion of your backfoot, even by just a few milliseconds. It might not seem like much, but I can assure that it could potentially make all the difference.
I think you should deliberately think about getting that tail to touch the ground first, and only after then, think about doing the rotation. Consider popping and rotating as 2 distinct steps that happen sequentially one after the other, and not as 1 blended motion.

  • @fatsteve2380

you're not jumping high enough!! tres aren't about power they're about finesse, you're focusing too much on putting oomf into your scoop, and it's taking away from your vertical height. when you scoop you should be on your way up of the ground, this makes the scoop "scrape" across the ground much easier and the board will rotate 360 with much less power.
to be clear: when you scoop you should be on your way up off the ground, not just on your way up from bending you legs. scoop when you're waitless from your upward momentum NOT when your still basically on the ground. what it'll feel like is keeping your back foot hanging around for a while scooping while the rest of your body is going upward into the air

Yeah I just got back into skating and saw videos of people doing "treflips" thinking "but that's a 360 flip?" Lol wonder what they call a 540 flip?

Chill dude I’m 38 and I tried so hard to keep from saying Tre flip, eventually I heard it so damn much I’d catch myself saying it and now I rarely say 360 flip

I think we forgot to account for the size board you re using ? what size is it ? could be a little harder to flip you may need to give it more power then most

lol local Joe was like, “I have really bad Tre flips can you help me?” But then he lands a perfect one second try and then Maurio was like, “Bruh, what do I help you with?”

For me treflips are hard with the front foot too far back. I prefer my front foot to be closer to the front bolts. Joe does a hop before the trick moving his front foot towards the back almost behind the center of the board. Tough to balance. IMO

Start doing them over stuff like decks, and keep raising the bar, and then you'll be popping them up to clear with less effort. If you can clear a deck on its side then you can benchmark your pop.

everytime you land it its not beacuse that little move you do its because you put your hole wheight on the front foot. The key is that you have to stay balance on your front foot yhe one that flicks.

Been keeping up with joes tre flip but I did notice that’s he’s more worrying about style than the actual trick. Like he mentioned in this video he said he donkey kicks it but if that’s natural to do then do as it is. Worry about style later as you improve.

You just gotta tighten your trucks so you arent carving so much before your pop...rear toes in pocket and front a few inches below bolts...in a kickflip position flick like you would a gentle kickflip

Your 9th and 10th tre flips were solid. If Maurio says it’s good, it’s good. You need to learn how to be more satisfied with your results, or it’s going to be even more difficult to reach your goal. It’s a mental game first and foremost.

It’s him.. he’s grunting and trying so hard it’s messing him up.. I wish he would try to relax a bit more and not be so tense and worried about every little “hack or cheat” and just crouch down and just send it. I feel like when you get so in your head and try analyzing every little thing you lose your ability to do the damn thing.

stop overthinking! bend at the knees and snap that tre around...don't think before you pop cause thats what makes you adjust your feet, your set up is good but you need to snap with your ankle and not try to muscle it with your back leg. i like to put pressure more on my front foot and transfer to my back right before i pop. or just keep doing what you're doing and focus on sucking your knees
