On average how long (hr's) would you spend on your board each week? I've just bought my skateboard at the ripe old age of 36....and starting from zero! The aim....to ollie! :-) Any tips along the way would be brilliant. And great video by the way
Hey Philip. During the year, I was skating about once a week, 2-3 hour per session. Now I skate about 3-4 times a week. My progression is now starting kick into gear as expected. The Ollie's will take time, my recommendation is that you ride as much as possible. Then get used to sliding your front foot up from just below the bolts to the end of the board, without actually popping an ollie. This will get you used to the motion. Then start practicing the pop without landing your front foot. The pop is a very quick snap of the tail quickly followed by lifting your foot back up again. Then later combine both motions.
@@AdnanCan I used to skate as a kid, but now, after about 20+ years of NOT skateboarding, I'm 42 now, I decided to hop back on the board. I think the disadvantage is that my mind still remembers the tricks and kicks, but my body is nowhere near to be able to follow the mind. And I am physically nowhere near how fit I was back in the day. This said, no broken bones or injuries beyond few bruises. I'm still struggling with the ollie, but I am able to kick and roll around with confidense and not killing myself or anyone else. :D
@@AdnanCan i am 13 years oke i am skating for 2 weeks and i skate 2 houres a day i can already do 180 and po shuvit , olie i dont get why it take 6 months to lears to oliz
I used to skate in my early teens for around 3-4 years. I'm 43 now and I'm seriously wanting to start back up again but I don't know which are the best wheels, bearings, trucks and decks now 😕
@@lylaaxiom8750 I'm from Scotland so luckily that's something I don't need to worry about thanks to the NHS. Any medical help I require comes free of charge 😉
@Derek Ewart agreed above. I’m 46 years old skated my entire life! I gave up at age 28. But just last month grabbed myself a new ride. Bought an antihero deck 8.75 inch wide and I think it’s 32/33 inch long (popsicle shaped board). I may go down to a 8.5 baker but it’s a bit skinny for what I like right now. I’m 6’ 2” with a 12” shoe. 149 thunder trucks (no risers) 55 mm spitfires Same bones red bearings Junct Hardware (nuts and bolts) Mob Grip Tape
I'm 37.. I just bought mine last week..😁 Just curious how is proper skateboard feels like.. I have been riding Walmart board when I was young coz I can't afford one.. damn, first push of my new board bring back memories of my hard time...
One thing I've advised to guys/ gals just picking up a board for the first time ever is to not get caught up in the technical trickery of skateboarding! FIRST, get as comfortable as possible on just riding fast and swerving each direction without ticktacking, learn to powerslide, pivot around, while keeping your balance, pump up and down a quarter, perfect your ollie, ride the wave. Trust the process, it is just as fun as learning a new trick (trust me), THEN, tricks would naturally come. I've been skating for most of my life now, and have not slowed down, even with college and a fulltime position, I'm 26, so I've maintained a healthy exercise on my board and feel as comfortable as ever, so glad I haven't slowed down as I've learned my health and physique have greatly benefited from it - being outdoors is a plus. TLDR: Tricks are secondary, comfort and style comes first, everything will slowly fall into place and you'll be thankful for picking up a board. Nothing like it. Peace
Can’t believe no one commented here. This is the best advice I have heard in a while. Picking up my board tomorrow I just bought after not skating in 15 years, I can still do a few tricks. Kick flip, shove it, and Ollie. But I will definitely focus on style and comfort on my board . Thanks man!
Agreed. I’m 25 and just getting back into skateboarding after a 8-10 year on again/off again break. And i definitely cant do all the stuff i used to do. Even carving around the park and riding transitions feels so unnatural now compared to when i was younger. I was more of a street skater when i was younger and was never very good at transition so i’m making transition skating my goal. Just going to get back into the flow of pumping around bowls, rock to fakies, and learning to roll over coping into transitions to start runs as my goal for the next couple months. Super stoked to be back!!
This is sound advice, but the thing is that for a lot of people, they just want to get to the cool stuff first. It's not till you have injuries & frustrations that you learn to take a step back and actually try to nail the basics and enjoy yourself. Great advice though.
wish i heard this back when i was 12-13 maybe i would stuck with it instead of pickin it up bout a decade later. but when i got my board again and got on i forgot how relaxing it was for me
The coolest thing ever to see that look on someone's face when they land thier first kickflip this man was 29 and I can tell he felt just like i did when i was a kid. Subbed! Keep grinding dude!
Dude, that is actually quite fast progression. Excellent work. My only advice I could give you besides keep skating, is learn tricks while rolling on the skateboard as opposed to standingstill. I am 45 years old. I ate, slept, and shit skateboarding from the ages of about 12 years old until I was 25. I have been off of a skateboard much longer than I ever even skateboarded, yet I still watch skateboarding videos religiously to this day. I am completely blown away by the progression of skateboarding today. Skateboarding to me, is/was the best years of my life. I still have dreams about it. I still formulate tricks in my mind. I need to get back on a skateboard. Great job to you brother, keep thrashing and peace. I’m gonna go buy myself a skateboard! See what you did to me. I’m having a mid-life crisis!
LOL, bro. My history is pretty much the same as yours, and the biggest "critique" that came to my mind when watching this was exactly what you said--tricks are more easily done when rolling, especially ones that involve rotations, such as pop shuv-its and 180s. Very smooth ground such as that found in skate parks is great for learning. Neat video, though! It demonstrates to all those who have never picked up a skateboard how insanely difficult skateboarding is, as well as how fun it is at all levels.
I'm not as old as you, but my story is very similar. Had to bag it because my injuries were getting worse and worse and the medical bills were piling up (American).
edunexus7982341 There is no "normal" when it comes to the pace at which somebody learns a new skill. Obviously the older you are the longer the learning process takes, generally. What's important is that you're having fun whilst you do it eh? : )
@@rudidower Absolutely. My point was mainly that did does not seem like slow progress to me. I think I basically progressed at a similar kind of rate when I started.
33 year old here, thinking about picking up a board for the first time in 15 years!! you're doing great, hope you're keeping it up! Also the Hey Ya remix is by a guy called KAMAUU! highly recommend!!
Hey man. Just turned 27 earlier this month and you gave me inspiration to start skating again. I thought maybe it was too late to start skating seeing as kids normally start really early. I skated for maybe a year or so when I was 13-14 then gave it up for whatever reason. I'm going to start again cause of you my man. Much respect.
the adrenaline will make you love skate and be fearless, pro skaters still skate at older age i land my first ollie at age 29 currently working on my kick flips and i’m 30 this year just wanna say keep on doing what you love bruh
shakeel rahim im so glad to know that there’s also other guys out there are in my “learning-stage” group haha. I started really late, like in my early 30s because life and day job life gets in the way. I’m 37 now and still trying to perfect my ollie and I realize learning and be able to skate fluidly to work (and ditching my car) is really fun and addicting.
Quick tip - spend alot of time on your board, crusing around. Get really comfortable and learn to control your board properly, then the rest will be easier.
He said this correctly. You are trying all these tricks with no board control. Don't drive to get coffee/store/close places...etc; ride your deck. You will be amazed once your muscles learn to ride the deck how much easier all these tricks will come. Get a short cruiser deck with looser trucks even to ride around. Trust me man... This is really important stuff. Think of it like this, pro hockey players will all tell you before learning how to be fancy with the puck, you need to learn how to skate around effortlessly. You may think you know how to flow around, but from the video, you don't yet.
i've started just like 10 month's ago. in the winter with the snow i didn't practice. but i can do an ollie up to an object, 50-50 grind (sometimes), frontside 180 and a shove it. i've started 1 month ago again (spring start) and i did a lot of progress since then. last summer i was like - cmon i just want to do an ollie - and now i want to go and skate and skate and forget about the negativity in mind and it helps me, just because im concentrating myself by what i'm doing and so there's no room for the bad shit. and i just can say GO FOR IT and one more thing i learned was, yeah the community is rly nice and friendly like everyone say's IT'S GREAT! so grab a board and don't give up you can do it!
I thought I was to old to get back into it at 27, you have given me hope, not trying to go pro or be the best. Just want to cruise around pop a few tricks, play on the mini ramps, carve up some bowls and I'll be a happy man. Thanks
I love watching your videos and it's good to see your progress. I'm a beginner skater as well and also I have difficulties with skateboarding but your videos keep me motivated all the time to never give up so thanks a lot!!
I've just started taking skateboarding seriously like 1 week ago. Honestly, the fact that you were in my city and seeing so many (non-serious) falls is giving me confidence!! Great video!
As I heard from another person I've worked with "I'll always have a level of respect for anyone who can kickflip, due to the level of commitment and practice to do so"
I always love seeing older people skate. I'm 21 and at this age I feel so out of place and weird when I'm go to the skatepark but seeing your progress really made me feel good. Now a days alot of my friends stopped skating so I go by myself
Don't feel out of place, man. You're not too old at all. Age 21 is when I was most focused (obsessed) with skateboarding. I was skating every day. Sure it sucks that kids half your age are better than you at the parks but just focus on your individual progress. Don't compare yourself to others :)
There's no need to feel weird or something like that. I'm 27 years old and started skating a few weeks ago. If there's something you enjoy just keep doing it. Don't think about what others might think about you. And btw 21 really isn't too old 😊
Same, dude. I started when I was about 12. Im 20 now and the homies I skated with back then moved on to do other stuff. Skating isn't a motivator for them anymore.
I love that this showed up in my recommended videos! I started learning to skateboard at 28 too, but I'm 30 now and have made zero progress (apart from sometimes on a good day being able to kickturn.... 😑) because I just don't practice. I'm too self conscious to go to the skate park D:
Like you said, if you don't practice the progress will be slow. But don't worry about that just go an have fun, trust me I have skated at many parks people don't judge, they actually welcome beginners as long as you try and not just sitting there.
I feel like this video was made for me. Just got a skateboard for my stepson and I grabbed one as well...turned 31 a few months ago. We are learning together!
im 31 aswell and just picked up skateboarding. havent been on a board for 18 years and im back just relearning the basics. Its amazing thats youtube is around now with so much knowlege. Good luck on your board 👌
thanks man, I've quit skateboarding 8 years ago but your video motivated me again! That smile when you land your first kickflip I feel it right throught my heart!
@@AdnanCan Nah man, that was wholesome as hell, and I think any skater can relate to that feeling. Landed my first tre flip a month ago and that was pretty close to how I felt.
RunningDizzl same. I’m 36 and stopped skating around 23-24. Within a few attempts I was landing all my old tricks. Not as consistently but hey, after a decade plus I’ll take it.
@@r1ce__kr1spyclips99 it still is the same Feeling to get one but a hell Lot harder to shake off the "fear" to hurt yourself 😎 i dont regnet it anyways. Have fun and take care dude 🚦
Duuuuddee I’m laughing the whole time cuz I’m right where you’re at. I’m 27 and been riding for a year. Still don’t have the kick flip!! But i feel ya man. Even though a year seems like a while, we have come so far. Keep getting it!! You’re never too young to skate.
I just started skating again aswell, i skated from when i was 9 untill 19 and i'm 27 now. Still got the hang of quite some tricks, but more scared to do hard stuff than i was back then :D
Yo bro MAD Respect! I skated for like 15 years as a kid & was even sponsored by my local shop... Anyways i got diagnosed with a brain tumor & had to relearn how to walk... Safe to say i have NOT been on a board since then... I wish you lived close to New Jersey! I would totally sk8 with you! I would be RElearning everything from scratch! Man i WISH i could still Nollie Inward Heelflip.... Whenever i landed one of those it felt MAGICAL! As if nothing else in life matters! I subbed! I look forward to more! And hey if you want any help in learning to do some of these tricks faster I can help you with foot position and all that kind of stuff because it's still buried in my mind from when I was a kid... Please feel free to pick my brain! For starters to get doing tricks while moving at speed, you're going to want to straighten your front foot out so that it is perpendicular to your shoulders... That way you have more surface area to bring the board higher up with you when you Ollie... At the present time you're just using your toe and you don't get enough friction with just your toe, so you're Ollie's are not as high as they could be! Keep it up man I'm really proud of you!
@@AdnanCan also when you can't skate And it's raining or something... Check out the viceland channel, there's always some skateboarding stuff on there like King of the Road for instance!
Hey I'm in my 30's and been skating for a while. Keep it up. Remember you skate for you and no one else so keep at it. It's inspiring to see older skaters. Skateboarding is for everyone. Cheers
Good job man. I can imagine it's not easy learning how to skate at an older age, mainly because you're more fearless as a youngster. As an adult, you think more about consequences while a child won't think it could happen to them. If you like it then keep skating no matter what! I'm 31 and started skating at 12 so like I said I can only imagine. Btw, it took me at least like a whole year straight to land a kickflip so you're doing good.
Awesome video man, you've progressed really well! I remember finding you with your 6 months skateboarding progress video, bloody hell that video has blown up! 142,000 views! That's incredible. Hopefully this one does very well too. Looking forward to seeing what the next 12 months brings for you mate.
You are progressing really well. Ive been skating for 9 years now and if you ask me you should loosen your trucks a little such that you could take the turn at 06:50 as one curve. I dont say this because loose trucks are cooler or anything. However, being able to cruise around a park or spot smoothly will increase your board feeling a lot. And board feeling is just as important as the ollie itself. You got my sub, keep it up ;)
I am 38yo, i used to skate when i was younger but i had to stop due to work and now i got back on it and i feel great, even though last year a had a Acl and miniscus reconstuction still felling awsome !!!! well done to us all!!!
Hell yes! It can certainly be a defeating process, and isn't the most forgiving hobby... but the feeling of succeeding in landing even one trick has an immeasurable impact. Keep on shredding, brother
Wonderful thing you've started! I have a saying, that best "trick" you can do in skating in to start it. Worst is to quit. And everything else in between is just awesome! There's this one thing I did notice... you have a tendency to bring your feet close together when you lose your balance or when you land... I know it's a normal tendency of humans to do that when they seek balance, but in skating, it's counterproductive and even dangerous. You lose your balance even more if you land on the board feet together because your body reacts to that sense of losing balance by doing that... always keep your feet well separated so you have better balance and feeling of control even when you fall. It's going to take time and thoughtful effort to get that out of your system, but once you do, you stop feeling "on a knives edge" when you fall or in general when you skate. Other thing to focus on is to keep your knees bent and loose at all times... even when falling If you straighten them out, you lose one direction of movement from your legs and you'll lose your balance or fall even more spectacularly. People have told me that I have a funny way of walking since I bend me knees more than average... that's because of skating for so long. :D I'm 32 myself, though I started when I was 15. And doing warm-ups, stretching etc. isn't considered to be a "skater thing" but they should absolutely be considered as one. Always remember to warm up, stretch your whole body before trying to do something more extreme. You'll save yourself from horrid injuries... I promise you that! :D I hope you'll find a lot of joy from this hobby! :)
Cheers for the tips. I have started to skate more now. Riding everywhere just to improve balance. Will try and loosen up haha maybe a few beers will fix that. It's awesome that you are still skateboarding. Thanks
I'm 27-almost 28 and I just got my first skateboard after a month of psyching myself up and wanting to do it. Got out today rode it for the first time. I can't kickturn, I've fallen a couple times and I struggle with just keeping myself going but I'm determined. I love it and I want to get better and in a year, in may 2022, I'm gonna come back and mark my progress.
when I landed my first stationary ollie, I was immediately signed by Etnies and Red Bull to a lucrative six-figure contract... so people, skateboard, it´s really fun
Loosen up bro! You look super tense on that thing! Personal opinion: I skated my whole life and am now almost 30. The things that improved my skating the most were getting better at riding the board instead of perfecting my flip tricks. Bomb more hills, spend time in pools/pipes, learn to power slide, and start ollie-ing off of bigger ledges/gaps/stairs. Spread those feet out and hunker down. Also, play with the tightness of your trucks. You may find that its easier to flip your board when they arent so loose. If you weigh a little bit more, tighter trucks will be easy to work with. Also, pay attention to the width of your deck. Different widths are typically important depending on the style of skating you're pursuing. Also if you have huge feet, get a bigger board. Have fun, get some scabs, grow your balls. It gets me so stoked to see adults getting into skating, let alone perfecting it!
This video was the most refreshing thing to see. Picked up skating again after 10 years at 28 and a half years old and was legit starting to feel like that ship had sailed. But seeing your progression has motivated me so much! Gonna go check out the rest of your channel and see if there's any other videos. Hope you are still skating!
Props to you dude! I’m 28, picked up skateboarding after a good 7/8 years...I was never any good before, I could cruise and ride, pop an Ollie but that’s it...now I’m smashing lip slides and working on some flip tricks too! I’d love to have a sesh with you some time!
Indeed you are right. Nobody that’s anybody forgets their first kick flip. My first kick flip was on my third (wooden - 7 ply deck) board, a SMA Natas Kaupas skateboard. I believe that was his first pro model. Man... those were some good times. It was in some dirty pebble strewn parking lot of a restaurant in downtown Menasha, WI. (Nowhereville). I also remember where I was when I did my first 360 kick flip (Now referred to as a tre flip), My first hand rail, etc. There really isn’t a whole lot I’m all that enthusiastic about in life anymore, but man skateboarding, now that’s something i’ll just never be able to shake off! It’s amazing how important those years were for the molded me into the person I am to this day. And that’s one (albeit middle-aged) fun loving, mountain humping, bad ass motherfucker. At least in my mind.
so did I !! couldnt get that kick flip down for shit. then after i skated for a few years i realized it was easier to land a double/triple kick flip than a single XD
I'm so happy to find this video and read these comments because I'm 31 and my bf is 30 and we just bought our first skateboards, and everyone we know is laughing at us and its so disheartening especially when it is really difficult to pick up. So many times I've just wanted to say we can't do this we are too old, we're not capable of learning at this age. Thanks guys for the pick me up 🥰
Don't worry about friends who don't skate, they will rip on you but mostly because they don't have the courage to try new things. Good luck to you both.
Skateboarding is all about having fun and I’ll be turn 40 by the end of this year and I’m saying proudly cuz still being able to skate and travel at the same time thank you skateboarding 🙏🏽
Don't stop, keep progressing. I quit for years because of injuries and I had a daughter. Now that she's old enough to skate, I've been getting back into it and I regret ever stopping. Never knew how much I missed it until I started again.
I’ve been skating since I was 12 skateboarding is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done I’m 27 now. This was very inspirational. Keep skating. fuck what the haters say. Thank you!!
Hey bro I'm so happy to find your channel. I always loved skating, bought my 1st board when 12yrs old but gave up for other activities. But always wanted to go back. I bought a used board but I'm 30yrs old and thought it's too late but your progress gives me a ton of hope. 👍🏼
So cool to show your progress like this. I just turned 30, and after really committing to snowboarding this year - I think I also want to try skateboarding. You've given me the confidence to try! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah I'm 29 and started skating recently. Tried a little when I was like 23, 24, but never learned any tricks or anything. This video was super encouraging/inspiring. Thanks so much for the upload. Also, to be honest the progress didn't seem that slow to me. All this stuff seems like some kind of dark wizardry to me.
That's one of the things that makes skateboarding great. It doesnt matter what age you start. The feeling of landing your trick after months of grinding will always feel so amazing.
I miss skateboarding, I stop skateboarding 16 years ago and regret it so much. Now I feel like ill break my leg just doing an ollie at 32 years. This video makes me want to skateboard again!
ohh.. common.. i'm 32, doing ollie on my longboard in a proud loneliness after 16 years of my skateboarding retirement )) Get mooaarr protective gear my friend and wear a helmet. Take care
Keep it up dude, I'm 36 and getting back in. Three weeks has brought some cool progress like dropping in is absolutely like riding a bike, except when it isn't.
Dropletmoth Fr man, today I had to rest a lot because my ankle kept getting stiff but at the end of the sesh I almost landed my first hard flip. I don’t even have the prerequisites to that trick, I was just trying to clean up my fs pop shuv!
I was skating when I was 16 years old, so around 1990.. but stopped 1991 because of an injury (I tried that "new trick" an olli 360 kickflip varial) while landing this trick I slipped over the nose with my foot and twisted my ankle very hard. That was one the the worst days in my life, because I was so much addicted to skateboarding.. however I finished this whole thing by selling my board then (it was a Frankie Hill Board) for 120 deutsche Mark... 2000 I bought me a new skateboard (Alien Empire) and was skating again for around two days.. but somehow it seemed to be too dangerous.. :( some days ago I found that board again in my cellar! :D I came across your video by chance (well done!! respsect!!), and now I am really asking myself if I should try again some tricks, just for the cause.. :) I am 44 years old now.. hhmmm...
Skating teaches you a little thing about life, I think. When you fall, get back up. Give it another go. It’s so satisfying to hear the wheels roll on the pavement. That’s one thing I’ve always loved about skateboards. Hearing the wheels on the cement. I had a blind board when I was 8. Though I never really skated. I just started skating this year and I’m 24. Getting good at my Ollies. They’re high, I just gotta land em. Haha. #Punk rock af.
You're killing it. Stick with it man, took me 2 years as a kid to land kickflips. Skating is a lifestyle. I just started again at 36yrs after 10 years off the board due to back injury. I hope you're still going strong. Peace.
25 years old, was playing Skate 1 today and it's really making me want to get a skateboard and give it a go, but I keep thinking I'll get self conscious if I'm around people, maybe I'll have to find a spot by myself 😂
That's what I did. 24 years old, just recently bought a "real" skateboard (had a penny-board before for like 6 years). Started practicing ollies in abandoned places in my city until I got comfortable to drive around and showing off. Each trick is a new commitment, I have to force my self to be vulnerable again and allowing myself to fail. It's a nice process, I do this also because I hope I can use this learnings in other parts of my life. Currently learning the pop shove it and I can't wait to stand it.
I also started skating this year. When I had vacation I would just skate at night. Did that untill I was confident enough to skate at daylight 😂 I'm 21 btw
Good work man just got to power through. I got my first board at the start of 2017 i was 13 and it was very challenging and even more with my weird build with long legs and tall posture, the board I had my dad gave me had cracks and dents each side of the board chipped badly. And when I went to the skatepark it seemed like everyone was better than me. I went with my friend who was a little better than me other wise I wouldn’t go to the skatepark because I felt embarrassed. That year from 2017 - 2018 I learnt how to 50:5050:0 and fakie and some simple drops. And how to kick turn... basically all the basics on a mini ramp Didn’t get close to doing an Ollie even after all those hours trying After that first year I felt bad but I was still wanting to get better the next year The start of next year me and my friend got into a fight with some kids at the skatepark that tried to steal my mates skateboard my friend from then quit skateboarding and I quit also for about 6 months thinking I was done forever... I started watching my younger brother skateboarding half way through 2018 and I felt more inspired to keep going. So I picked up the old chipped board and started again i got better at ollieing the and it felt good Christmas came I had 400$from all relatives and I decided that I wasn’t going to give up yet so with that 100$ of that 400$ I bought a carbon fibre board from skater hq and now at the end of 2018 I can finally Ollie while ridding and and boneless and kind of Nollie and sometimes do a shuv it Moral of the story is if you train everyday on a skateboard for 5 years you are never going to get worse you are bound to get better. All those people like me out there keep on going!!!
I’m 32 years old. I’ve skated since I was 12 and it WAS my life for about 15 years. I haven’t skated in about 5 years. I was actually pretty good considering I did it almost every day for half of my life. I eventually got badly injured and never took care of the injury due to financial reasons( I have a bone in the bottom of my foot that’s completely obliterated due to throwing myself down stairs and gaps) I’m getting surgery soon and would love to put out a progression video. I’ve skated once ( about 6 months ago) and it’s crazy how much skill I’ve lost and how uncomfortable I feel on my board, when it used to feel like second nature. Can’t wait to hop back on my board and teach my little man some tricks! Awesome video btw!👌
Neverwoner Yeah it is crazy how fast it goes when you don't do it, I stopped skating for like 2-3 years and practically lost it all haha I wasn't the greatest but I was decent at it. Something I wanna do again , but sometimes things are better in the past I feel, plus I've moved onto better things haha.
You just reminded me at the motivation I had when I started skateboarding. I was 15 by then, now I'm 28. The funniest part of skateboarding is the learning process, and the people you meet during the process, enjoy it! I see you're doing lots of videos in Barcelona. I won't be able to skate for about 9 months because of an injury, after that, I hope I see you some day at Plaça Universitat or Macba, and it will be cool to see how much you progressed!
I've started a year ago and in a month I'm turning 38. Still cannot ollie but it was a long winter. Going to have some progress this summer:) Keep it up, man!
Good on you mate! Keep it up. I used to skate between age 13-16. Turning 39 this year and will pick it up again because finally I have someone to skate with. My son, that will turn 9 this summer. It was inspiring to see your progress, and for that, I thank you!
So from 10-15/16 i skatet every day, Never Been that Good because there was Nobody that Showed me anything. And i was shy as fu*k. This week my daughter asked me to buy a skateboard for her, and i was hell yeah we are doing this. So i bought the Board of my dreams (that i Could Never ever afford back in the days) a solid Board for her. When they arrive im going to Break all my Bones, because im in the worst Shape ive ever been and with 32 years this is just stupid. But man i cant wait!
I’m 18 and I just started yesterday. I had a board from when I was younger but never rode it why idk. It’s a smaller board but I like the feel of it it’s 7.5in width with a 30.75in length
Im 14 and 160 pounds and bought my first skateboard today it's amazing i never go outside but ive been under the bridge for the whole day btw im under the bridge cause the ground is really good and at a skatepark I'll probably get in someones way so im learning under a bridge first
Dude this is really cool, I'm 27 and I've been thinking about getting my first board but at the same time I keep thinking to myself probably I'm too old. Glad to see you're making it and having fun. I should definitely give it a try
I picked back up skating after 3 years since I broke my tibia and fibula, I was mostly a pipe skater then and started learning tricks now, I know how to Ollie so far
I'm 30 and I bought a skateboard last month, started ridding it properly last week. I managed to land an Ollie the other day, then a Shuv it yesterday. I started laughing historically because when I was a kid I could never do any tricks. Could not believe how happy it made me. I literally just went out for an hour and got back in, felt a bit shit because I wasn't really landing and felt like I was wasting my time...Then I saw this video and it made me so happy to see someone else skating at my age, and seeing how far you had come along in a year, gave me a lot of hope! Amazing video man! Keep shredding!!!
This is a cool video. People don't realize how difficult skateboarding is compared to "traditional" sports. Can I give you a tip for your kickflips that really helped me when I was trying to perfect them? Practice learning kickflip to nose stall on a small ledge (2 stairs tall or in the 14-16" range). I know it seems like you need to learn kickflips on flat ground before you can try them into a nose stall, but its one of those counter intuitive things. Kickflipping to a nose stall will force you to flick it correctly off the nose of the board and you will develope proper technique. Great progression for a year. Remember to keep your shoulders square (parallel to your board) Have fun just skating and going fast. One thing I noticed was that you try to do a lot of tricks, but you still look squirrelly as hell on your board. Keep skating and you will be amazed at your progression over this next year.
This is sick mate!!! How often are you skating? When you are a beginner it is so important to skate as often as possible which is a lot easier to do when you’re 14 when I started than when you’re 30. Watching your elation when you landed your first kickflip was so sick. I was psyched for you because I remember those days. 22 years on and I’m still at it bro, don’t give up!
Hey, your video randomly show up to me and it’s amazing. I’m 30 this year and just started to skateboarding. I’m still struggling with Ollie. And yours video definitely encourage me. Keep it up 🤙🏻
yo buy one! even if you give up after a few weeks, it's a cheap investment! i started learning a month or two ago. can inconsistently ollie, bs shuvit, and sex change on a bank near my apartment haha either way, ripping around town on smooth roads is the best part. can't wait to learn to powerslide so i can bomb some of the steeper hills just take it easy at first until your body is used to falling, and you're good
I'm 28 and i just started. Had been doing it for about a month now and it's just crazy man. So relaxing but frustrating at the same time. Really pushes you mentally.

For me my first flip trick was a heelflip. But I totally remember landing my first one. Summer of 2009 before college
Hahaha !

Just curious how is proper skateboard feels like..
I have been riding Walmart board when I was young coz I can't afford one.. damn, first push of my new board bring back memories of my hard time...
the reason you look 24 when you're 30 is cause you keep doing stuff like this when others will say they're ''too old'', great video, very inspiring
Andrew Austin which is what this guy is saying in a way.
You know what they say? You don't stop skating because you got old, you got old because you stopped skating.
Soraya M TORALLY AGREE!
You know how old I am? 36! And nobody believes me. I guess I look this young because I behave like a kid. 😝
I think he looks right about 30. Would have been my guess
its true
Thanks man!
needed this, thank you :))
Which one is more memorable, landing your first clean kick flip or losing your virginity?
@@seldane3218 kickflip ofc
i haven't even kickflipped yet but i got the same feeling as when i landed an ollie up onto a manny pad
Jon Pate what a memory lmao
Dude you are hilarious! This made my day haha. You obviously know your stuff, I will do everything moving now. Cheers!
Steve Ebbens Post a update video if you can, thanks
I was also just thinking about getting one. haha :D
I'm not as old as you, but my story is very similar. Had to bag it because my injuries were getting worse and worse and the medical bills were piling up (American).
Good to see somebody document a 'normal' rate of progress! Keep going!
Erwin Vervaet that isnt normal
edunexus7982341 Not normal as in 'fast' or 'slow'?
Kind of slow but some people cannot go 5 hours a day everyday to practice so it's still interesting to see.
edunexus7982341 There is no "normal" when it comes to the pace at which somebody learns a new skill. Obviously the older you are the longer the learning process takes, generally. What's important is that you're having fun whilst you do it eh? : )
@@rudidower Absolutely. My point was mainly that did does not seem like slow progress to me. I think I basically progressed at a similar kind of rate when I started.

Also the Hey Ya remix is by a guy called KAMAUU! highly recommend!!
Hey man. Just turned 27 earlier this month and you gave me inspiration to start skating again. I thought maybe it was too late to start skating seeing as kids normally start really early. Quick tip - spend alot of time on your board, crusing around. Get really comfortable and learn to control your board properly, then the rest will be easier.
"Hi, I'm aron kyro, a professional skateboarder from the san francisco bay area"
@@achillesdeniz boring
He said this correctly. You are trying all these tricks with no board control. Don't drive to get coffee/store/close places...etc; ride your deck. You will be amazed once your muscles learn to ride the deck how much easier all these tricks will come. Get a short cruiser deck with looser trucks even to ride around. Trust me man... This is really important stuff. Think of it like this, pro hockey players will all tell you before learning how to be fancy with the puck, you need to learn how to skate around effortlessly. You may think you know how to flow around, but from the video, you don't yet.
imejandiskate thanks for rhe tip man im 26 6'4" and I just bought my very first board barely learning how to balance

I'm 32, I think most pro skaters would be older than 21, maybe if you're on a scooter at that age it would be weird.

Like you said, if you don't practice the progress will be slow. But don't worry about that just go an have fun, trust me I have skated at many parks people don't judge, they actually welcome beginners as long as you try and not just sitting there.

Yo bro MAD Respect!

Your story is inspiring. The tips are very welcomed indeed, you know your stuff and this will be of great help to me. Cheers Daniel

Took me a year and a half to land one although could land heels after 4 months

142k watching me Ollie for 6 months, it's making me go weak at the knees. 😬. Cheers brother appreciate it!
You got my sub, keep it up ;)
Good point, actually go loosen them now

Good stuff keep it up. I’m 37 and just started skating again after a 17 year break and I’m loving it.
Landed my first kickflip at 33 years 4 months!!
awesome man 👊👊
Wonderful thing you've started!
I'm 32 myself, though I started when I was 15.
And doing warm-ups, stretching etc. isn't considered to be a "skater thing" but they should absolutely be considered as one. Always remember to warm up, stretch your whole body before trying to do something more extreme. You'll save yourself from horrid injuries... I promise you that! :D
I hope you'll find a lot of joy from this hobby! :)
Cheers for the tips. I have started to skate more now. Riding everywhere just to improve balance. Will try and loosen up haha maybe a few beers will fix that. It's awesome that you are still skateboarding. Thanks

I can't kickturn, I've fallen a couple times and I struggle with just keeping myself going but I'm determined. I love it and I want to get better and in a year, in may 2022, I'm gonna come back and mark my progress.
how's it going on with the progress?
when I landed my first stationary ollie, I was immediately signed by Etnies and Red Bull to a lucrative six-figure contract...
so people, skateboard, it´s really fun
😂
pohmakas33 I love Etnies
I have been skating for 30 years god I'm old haha. Good job man that's some really good progress in a year stay rolling brother 👊
That's is awesome, feels good to hear from skaters who are tearing it up for years. Just saw your channel, subbed. Keep going brother 🤜🤛
Also, wax....
Even jumping on your skateboard and skating to the mailbox or to the store. When you're not driving everywhere you get more exercise.
I am mate! Hope you are too despite the current climate
I’m 26 and just started learning 2 weeks ago
Never skated as a kid either lol
But it’s cool seeing more people around my age learning! 🤘🏽
this editing is too good for some one who has 3k subs xP
It's cool you showed all that failed ones. It makes the good ones even more satisfying to watch. Thanks for the share.
Props to you dude!
I’m 28, picked up skateboarding after a good 7/8 years...I was never any good before, I could cruise and ride, pop an Ollie but that’s it...now I’m smashing lip slides and working on some flip tricks too!
I’d love to have a sesh with you some time!
The first kickflip.... Who forgets that!
Felipe Briglia i was screaming an going all rocky! Hands in the air
I learned heel flip first haha
so did I !! couldnt get that kick flip down for shit. then after i skated for a few years i realized it was easier to land a double/triple kick flip than a single XD
I remember my first one landed while riding.
Awesome man I'm happy for you. Enjoy and keep progressing 🤜🤛
@@AdnanCan keep us updated. New sub.
Right On Man! you just inspired me to start skating at age 49... I'm going to rip this game to shreds!
hi, just checking if you're still alive ? ;p
So cool to show your progress like this. I just turned 30, and after really committing to snowboarding this year - I think I also want to try skateboarding. You've given me the confidence to try! Thanks for sharing.
so lovely!!! i start skateboarding again now at age 33...after 12 years of pause...my son start with me now ;) hes 6! keep it up mate!!! love u
Keep shredding both of you
Yeah I'm 29 and started skating recently. Tried a little when I was like 23, 24, but never learned any tricks or anything. This video was super encouraging/inspiring. Thanks so much for the upload.
Also, to be honest the progress didn't seem that slow to me. All this stuff seems like some kind of dark wizardry to me.
Awesome to read you are back on it. Keep it up mate ✊
@@AdnanCan Eyyyy.
Cheers bro!!
I'm 29. This is very inspiring. I use to think I was too old for things like this despite feeling 19.
30s the new 20 mate 😁🤟
That's one of the things that makes skateboarding great. It doesnt matter what age you start. The feeling of landing your trick after months of grinding will always feel so amazing.
I miss skateboarding, I stop skateboarding 16 years ago and regret it so much. Now I feel like ill break my leg just doing an ollie at 32 years. This video makes me want to skateboard again!
ohh.. common.. i'm 32, doing ollie on my longboard in a proud loneliness after 16 years of my skateboarding retirement )) Get mooaarr protective gear my friend and wear a helmet. Take care
When he hit that first kickflip I legit started clapping for him as if it were me doing it! Keep up the good work my dude!
So honest, progress takes time, and that's what this video is all about
Keep it up dude, I'm 36 and getting back in. Three weeks has brought some cool progress like dropping in is absolutely like riding a bike, except when it isn't.
I do that sit thing too. Sit and watch my board fly, sit on my board after not getting a trick. Sitting helps.
Dropletmoth Fr man, today I had to rest a lot because my ankle kept getting stiff but at the end of the sesh I almost landed my first hard flip. I don’t even have the prerequisites to that trick, I was just trying to clean up my fs pop shuv!
I’m 29 and this video is making me want to pick up skateboarding again :) haven’t been on a board since I was 17. Btw, great edit at 2:07!
Go for it mate. Cheers 🤜🤛
Same im nervous about my knee pain from when i used to skate
Bro I am 29 as well and stopped skating at 16 I just brought a board in uk London and thinking were to skate now not to be embarrassed lol
:) I am 44 years old now.. hhmmm...
Wow what a journey man, it's almost like a movie. I guess there would be no harm in at least cruising, but we all know where that would lead too :)
Just take it slow if you decide to try some tricks. Nothing wrong with just cruising around. It's honestly so much fun and it feels so good
what's alien empire? you mean like alien workshop ? i looked up what alien empire is and all i found were insects o.o
how do i get to alien empire haha yes I meant alien workshop! it is the Jason Dill deck
That year from 2017 - 2018 I learnt how to 50:50 50:0 and fakie and some simple drops. And how to kick turn... basically all the basics on a mini ramp
Didn’t get close to doing an Ollie even after all those hours trying
After that first year I felt bad but I was still wanting to get better the next year
The start of next year me and my friend got into a fight with some kids at the skatepark that tried to steal my mates skateboard my friend from then quit skateboarding and I quit also for about 6 months thinking I was done forever...
I started watching my younger brother skateboarding half way through 2018
and I felt more inspired to keep going. So I picked up the old chipped board and started again i got better at ollieing the and it felt good Christmas came I had 400$from all relatives and I decided that I wasn’t going to give up yet so with that 100$ of that 400$ I bought a carbon fibre board from skater hq and now at the end of 2018 I can finally Ollie while ridding and and boneless and kind of Nollie and sometimes do a shuv it
Moral of the story is if you train everyday on a skateboard for 5 years you are never going to get worse you are bound to get better.
I guarantee you will get it back pretty fast. Good luck brotha
good luck !
Ah bro I just left Barcelona! But I'll likely visit often
You did very good man. I did skate younger and i know how much it is crazy that you progressed like that.
You have inspired me to get a new board and start skating again! Thank you
Happy to hear you are back on it like sonic... Sorry. 🤜🤛
I've started a year ago and in a month I'm turning 38. Still cannot ollie but it was a long winter. Going to have some progress this summer:) Keep it up, man!
So did you learn to Ollie the past 4 months? :D
How did it go man?
@@_omnisl4sh im still Alive.
Still able to Land an Ollie.
Also had to buy a board for my Youngest daughter. 😂
WHAT A PROGRESSION! no dude you're not that slow at progression, you've lots of tricks 😝 I'm so proud of you!
Not bad huh, 😊😊. Thanks Ocean!
Now i am feeling more younger. I am 19 and gonna start skateboarding..
I’m 18 and I just started yesterday. I had a board from when I was younger but never rode it why idk. It’s a smaller board but I like the feel of it it’s 7.5in width with a 30.75in length
I started at 20 now 21 i can kickflip heelflip
Same as me just started at 19
Im 12 and stardet at 12 but i can kickflip ollie and backside 180 👍🏻✌🏽
Im 14 and 160 pounds and bought my first skateboard today it's amazing i never go outside but ive been under the bridge for the whole day btw im under the bridge cause the ground is really good and at a skatepark I'll probably get in someones way so im learning under a bridge first
Dude this is really cool, I'm 27 and I've been thinking about getting my first board but at the same time I keep thinking to myself probably I'm too old. Glad to see you're making it and having fun. I should definitely give it a try
It's cool to see how you loosened up in the board over time.
To see how excited you are that you landed that kickflip make me happy :)
Haha cheers felt great landing it
This is a cool video.
Remember to keep your shoulders square (parallel to your board)
Have fun just skating and going fast.
From 14 to 36 and still skating, so awesome. Great motivation
Hey, your video randomly show up to me and it’s amazing. I’m 30 this year and just started to skateboarding. I’m still struggling with Ollie. And yours video definitely encourage me. Keep it up 🤙🏻
I can't even stand on a skateboard and I'm watching skateboarding videos 😂
yo buy one! even if you give up after a few weeks, it's a cheap investment! i started learning a month or two ago. can inconsistently ollie, bs shuvit, and sex change on a bank near my apartment haha
either way, ripping around town on smooth roads is the best part. can't wait to learn to powerslide so i can bomb some of the steeper hills
just take it easy at first until your body is used to falling, and you're good
Man I don't have friends that skate so I don't want to start alone
Judging by this video, the uploader has barely got the balance down after an entire year so I think you're OK.
i remember my first time dropping in, felt like pure mdma.
5:30 is the best feeling every skater has ever had
Jackson William totally 😂
Too late. Say 5:28
Yes. Definitely. I still remember landing my first kick-flip, and I was about 11 years back then.
I'm 28 and i just started. Had been doing it for about a month now and it's just crazy man. So relaxing but frustrating at the same time. Really pushes you mentally.
