    Wow, the way the Eden sounds....GAAAAAADDDAYUM!!! I can't imagine how both mics would sound without the UA-cam compression playing a part.

      Mannn I feel like the Eden is up there with ANY high end microphone. The multiple voicings make it useful for any source and Lauten doesn’t enough credit for being a solid company.
      Honestly, the Atlantis is no slouch either.

      hey steve, my fav mic is 251 style...I currently own slate digital ml1 and I was thinking about buying the LA Eden (for vocals and acoustic guitar) because they say is more into this 251 style..However, watching this video I feel the forward on atlantis sounds better and more airy when recording vocals! Since you own both mics, what would you recommend? thank you very much!!

    • @stevehickman9635
      @stevehickman9635 Рік тому

      Hi@@reallygreatloops ! I wouldn't describe either of the Lauten microphones as being 251 type microphones. Do you own and like the Blackbird 251 model for you Slate mic? It's in the Blackbird Expansion. If you don't have that expansion, that's a fairly inexpensive way of getting a good 251 type mic. My favorite 251 type mic that I own is the Mojave
      MA-1000. It does the 251 thing very well and doesn't cost as much as other serious 251 type microphones. That being said, both of these Lauten microphones are excellent, versatile tools that you'll never regret owning. Forward on both of these works very nicely for pop vocals. Personally I've never used forward setting on acoustic guitars. If you live anywhere near TN you're welcome to come to my studio and try any/all of these out before you buy.

I thought I've seen a lauten audio comment saying the eden could do somehow similar to the 251 style... but now will consider the mojave too now! haha thanks @@stevehickman9635

    The Eden had a much more majestic sound on its own, but the Atlantis cut through better in the mix. Plus I liked how the Atlantis didn't wash out when the vocals got quiet and tapered off, unlike the Eden. Great demo!

    Yessssss!!! #MooreMicsPlease
    Man that Eden is something else! It has so much fullness to it even with stock interface preamps which is something I felt the Atlantis was lacking, especially in forward mode. When you put the Atlantis thru the Weight Tank, that was when I finally started enjoying the sound of it.
    I swear you can make every mic sound good haha great vid as always Carl!!

    • @CarlMooreMusic

      Bro!! I definitely appreciate the support man!!!! Lauten Audio is a creative company in my opinion! The Eden is a utilitarian piece that goes good with almost anything in my opinion. The build quality is stellar, the sound quality is a head turner and then the guys at Lauten are DOPE. Not a sales pitch at all but a factual experience I’ve had!
      The weight tank is so smooth to me and for the price is a no brainer! I do think it added the girth that was needed on the FET topology of the Atlantis but wasn’t over done in the neutral and gentle modes. But I’ve fallen for the neutral mode on the Atlantis lol.
      Waiting on a “mic” to come in so I can compare that mode to it. But it works for me.
      I like the trident 80B EQ paired with it or the some of that 1073 style EQ as well.
      Thanks for the kind words man! Just trying to show a different genre with these mics that I don’t typically see on UA-cam.

    I think both of these mics together really highlight the differences between Tubes and FETS. People think tubes add warmth, but they really add a smooth high end boost. Warmth comes from transformers (Like the U47, there's a big ole transformer in that thing). FETS have that extra sizzle in the high end. I think I'd choose between these mics based on how you want your high end to feel. The atlantis might cut through a mix ever so slightly better without extra work. But the Eden still cuts through sufficiently with a more silky sound.

    • @siriusfun
      @siriusfun 11 місяців тому +1

      Tubes also impart a very pleasing distortion by way of 2nd order harmonics (saturation) that adds warmth and weight as well as sparkle. The perfect combination is a tube mic with transformers like a U67, IMO.
      The Eden is a reasonable facsimile of that vibe.

      I recently was testing a mic for a potential review video and I had to switch up the preamp in the chain because the tube saturation was just a little too much so I’m not surprised at your observation but I like what the Eden does in contrast to the Atlantis. All and all, both mics are solid

    Hey buddy! First I just got to say that your videos and comparisons are pro level, quality is top notch, just keep up the great work!
    Since you got so much experience, I have a question for you.
    I just ordered the Slate VMS, wanted to check it out first hand.
    Had a chance to test out the TLM 103 for a bit. It sounded really great on my vocals, but sounded not so great on a singer I had right after me. I think the proximity effect is very sensitive on it, and the singer came close to the mic. End result was a boomy vocal with a lot of top end sizzle and sibilance.
    That's why I wanted to test out the VMS, even though I know Neumann must have better quality components (better capsule, etc.)
    Which one do you prefer out these two?
    And do you think its worth pulling the trigger on the u87ai, since its high end is much smoother than the tlm 103?
    I would just like to get a more all round mic, that will be my go to for vocals. TLM 103 seems to be fantastic on some, but to harsh on others...maybe I'm wrong.
    Thanks, appreciate the content and all the best buddy!

    • @CarlMooreMusic

      Thanks for checking out the channel and commenting.
      I’ll say you really can’t go wrong with a u87ai on pretty much any source the mic has been around for ages. And it’s just proven that it works. Granted you’ve got good mic placement, and a complimentary front end chain, that investment would be worth it.
      That being said, I’ve gotten solid results when using the TLM 103 and just about any mic I’ve gotten my hands on. I think it also comes down to the need for complimenting the source being captured. That includes adding front end processing that will achieve the desired tonal goal.
      Hope this helps

      If you were to choose between the Slate ml 1 and the tlm 103, which one would it be?

      Thanks once again!

    • @CarlMooreMusic
      @CarlMooreMusic  2 роки тому

      The Slate ML1 offers much more tonal variety.

      I'm curious to see how it holds up to the tlm 103.
      The only thing I'm worried about is the capsule sounding like a cheap chinese capsule.
      Here you can hear clearly that the slate is much more sibilant than the 103, and that scares me... ua-cam.com/video/NwpEhVZJA_A/v-deo.html (tlm 103 vs u87 vs ml1 comparison)
