The Atlantis is very pleasant to my ears. Whenever I listen to these mic comparisons, I will listen on some good headphones, and then I will actually listen at a low volume through my cell phone right up to my ear. I have found that most budget mics will always have an annoying upper mid-range sound that gives them away. Every time it jumps back to the Atlantis it remains smooth with none of the annoying frequencies. Great video, thanks for doing all of the comparisons. 🙌🏻
Lauten had that little extra fullness over all of the other mics it’s very impressive that’s a do it all mic I love it the look the capsule is brilliant
Man that Neutral setting sounded really nice on your voice. Tamed any harsh high end without losing clarity. Noticed the Omnidirectional was definitely blocked by the metal edges up the grill.
I think the Lauten smoked the u87 which sounded too crispy and harsh where the c100 sounded like… leathery lol In comparison to the Atlantis. I’ve been using a pure tube from Lewitt and sweet heavens was it a magical upgrade from the low grade mic world of 3 to 400 bucks but I don’t like having to lug a power supply if I want to record on the go and that’s my main goal right now so I’m feeling like selling my tube to snag this baby tbh. Then I can still get super clear sound and no power supply.. tube mics are so warm and sweet but this one sounded just as warm as a regular tube mic and a lot less muddy
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the mics. This is a really great sounding mic, the Pure Tube is also a fantastic sounding mic. Take solace knowing that while you wait to sell the pure tube you're going to have some incredible sounding recordings.
Very very interesting review. I've got some thoughts on it, but before I give my statement, I will have to listen to it on your website and proper wired headphones. Now I listened to you with my Sony XM4s, which tends to to everything a favour. Thank you for doing this enormous amount of work.
The Lauten on the neutral setting sounds similar to my favorite Neumann mic, the TLM 49, but with a bit less emphasis in the upper mids. This makes shopping easier.
I really liked how it went from SM57 to E609...very cool. Personally- I feel the Guitar portions can be FAR more telling of the EQ curve than the obvious vocal tests. Most of us have @ least tried vocal mics on guitar. Aside from the humor, that honestly is my fave part of how you review these with guitars. Perhaps a separate video with ONLY guitar use... just a thought. Would probably get more guitar head viewers- I would watch. Thanks for all you do, buddy. Thanks!
An A-list female voice actor colleague of mine shot out have a dozen mics that I had the opportunity to hear, including a Lauten 320, which far and way performed best for her at a great price point. A male voice actor friend recently bought this 387 which produces great results for him. If you look closely at a variety of Broadway cast recording videos done in big facilities like The Power Station, you will find Lautens in use in front of singers where you might have expected U47s or other of the usual suspects. Lauten produces great microphones.
I actually bought this mic before you reviewed it after doing a lot of research. I think the pricing is fair. Is it a chunk of money? It's half the price of the U87, which sounds very close to the Lauten, but doesn't come with the versatility of the presence switch. I bought it for recording my voice, saxophones and for hand percussion and the different settings are useful if you're recording a range of sources. The At 2020 always sounds harsh to me. I looked at the Mojave and the upper end is a bit too noticeable as is the Lewitt, which is a little too modern for me. After using the Lauten, what I can say is, that it's the first microphone I've used that, very accurately, records things the way that I hear them with my own ears. It has a full rich, accurate sound to my ears. I would say that the girth can be a hinderance and has to be planned for, but there are a lot of other heavy duty studio mics used that are just as large and weighty. The resonance? You tap on most mics directly and you will hear something picked up. This is not meant to be handheld at all. You'd have to do some pretty intensive tests to see if that resonance actually was being an issue in recording. There are, even tested by you, mics that cost a helluva lot more that have resonance as well. I think the test was fair overall. I always enjoy your thoroughness and you viewpoints are always welcome and fair. Thanks for all the tests.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with it. I love hearing people’s stories and experiences actually using the mics that I review. As far as the resonance, in most recording situations, you’re right. But for someone like me who doesn’t just record music for fun, but also does a podcast, I have the mic at my desk and I speak with my hands and move around a bit because I try not to be dull and boring. That led to me tapping the mic or the cable which ultimately led to that resonance becoming quite apparent. So for music applications, you’re absolutely right, but for some VO people, podcasters, gamers, streamers, whoever might use it in close proximity, it may end up being an issue. It’s all about being as thorough as possible and pointing out the characters and quirks of the mics I test/review. Cheers again, and thanks for sharing your experience with the mic, like I said, I love hearing the real world applications of these from other people.
I had this microphone for 3 weeks and I had to refund it. It holds no candle to my Neumann's unfortunately. I got the Atlantis for such a sweet price that I was really hoping I could justify keeping it. I sold my TLM 67, refunded the Atlantis, and just bought a U47 FET. Endgame for me now.
@@thetruth3316 found a sweet deal on a brand new in box from a local store on the 47 fet. i cant find a remotely cheap u67 yet but definitely would love to get my hands on one
@@samtripleseven It's a really great mic, really flat though. I get a much fuller sound from my u47 FET but the TLM 67 served me really well on 4 albums
Just bought this mic oh, a week ago? I've fallen in love with it. It's an upgrade from the TLM 103. Each setting compliments my voice VERY well, I'm a mid to low voice type however often inflect into the higher tones when speaking, and this mic? This mic captures it all without those horrible resonant tones you can get at certain frequencies. It captures the growl of ones voice and fry very nicely as well with full detail Now I'm just deciding whether neutral or forward would be best for my voice over for animation and video games. Both have pros. I have noticed the forward setting isn't quite as harsh or sibilant as the TLM 103 so right of that bat even with that modern twist it's still tamer than the 103!
OMG you read my mind! I was actually looking for a review for this mic! I think it sounds fantastic and super versatile. Do you think they could send you the clarion too so you could compare both ? Again thanks a lot for that!
I Prefer the "neutral" on the cardioid mode. And I think in the Omni mode, the sound is low on the side... General the sound of this microphone is amazing!!!
Your reviews are always very in-depth, and that's very much appreciated! Would love to see a review of the Lauten Audio LA120, seems like a good stereo pair :)
I like the sound of the Lauten-- Brighter setting for the guitars, Neutral or Soft for vocals. Just don't touch it! Still amazed at how well the AT2020 sounds for just a hundred dollars. If I had no budget, I'd choose that one. Three chords and the truth, brother!
I enjoyed the Lauten very much! I was also impressed by the Mojave. All of the very expensive mics sounded comparable. I noticed this mic for sale at a shop here in Oz and was curious about it - I think I may need get that sale one quick. Or save myself 500 bucks and get that Mojave - no nevermind I just looked and it costs more than this Lauten.
Wow, I'm so impressed with this mic. I really hoped that I wouldn't like it so much because it is such a huge beast and I like small portable microphones. But this is on the top of my expensive purchases list now. I liked some of the comparison mics, but each time you returned to the Atlantis it feels like coming home. The only mic which I liked as much was the U87, but that one is much more expensive and do not have a voice switch. The three different modes makes this so versatile. I really prefer this method compared to modelling mics.
you definitely hear the difference between a 40$ mic and a 3600$ mic. until up about 1200$ differences are pretty big, from there up it's mostly all about personal preference and what you're using the mic for. some mics sound great on vocals, others sound better on acoustic guitars, overheads etc...
A lot of the difference in price would be made up of the quality of materials and components, the tolerances required, the amount of stuff they throw away for not meeting tolerances, the amount of time put in, the cost of labor required to manufacture, the cost of research and development, coverage of overhead costs, profit to fund further R&D for new products, and then the brand premium as well.

That frequency response is wild. I wish manufacturers would go back to stating what the tolerance of the response is, eg +/- 3dB. I’m not convinced by voicing settings, surely better to have a flat mic and eq on the desk or DAW?
Hey Mark, we run +/- 2dB and publish in 1dB increments without smoothing VS industry standard 2-5dB w/ smoothing. The voicing settings are actually different circuit paths, not just EQ. We don't believe in making flat mics. Our goal is less fix, more mix. Hope this helps
Hi have you ever featured the Samson S11 Cardioid Dynamic Mic in your channel? or have you ever owned one to compare it to the the new samson handheld dynamics? Thank You
I am looking forward to upgrade my microphone for vocal only. Currently have only one nt1a but it doesn’t work on every voice and doesn’t take the processing so good at times… I love the ela m 251 but it’s way too expensive. So is the bock 251. The Atlantis is nice and on my top 5 list for my next purchase. So is the Tlm103, tlm49, 414 xlii and a used one year old U87ai I could get for the same price as the Atlantis… I really don’t know what to buy..
Ooh! Sheryl Crow perhaps? Not Alanis? *EDIT* I spoke to soon. Great video as usual. The Atlantis sounds fantastic. How do you like it compared to the sE4400?
I have bought and sold many of microphones over the years even boutique microphones, I have even used a vintage Neumann M 249. I have made great recordings with cheap microphones, mid range, And I made great recordings with one of the most expensive microphones. You just got to pair yourself with mics that pair well with you. You can’t go wrong with Shure or Rode they make great microphones. What I would like to try out is the AEA A440. That is just a beautiful microphone in itself. Anyway you can get your hands on that??
Thank you so much for your great review. I think after watching i mostly think to myself, if am going to end up using EQ and other plugins then why bother buying such expensive mic??? what you reckon?
Hey, I have two microphone ideas for you to maybe make a video about, both being budget mics that offer features (in this case it's the capsules) that are common in more expensive options. First one is the CKMOVA SXM-3, which seems to be aimed directly at LCT 440 Pure, with borderline copied design, 26mm capsule, >140dB SPL and rather bright and light sound, but for less than $80. The second mic is the TAKSTAR TAK55, I've seen it for around $130 and it has a 34mm gold-plated capsule and quite neutral and full sound. I'm very curious about both of these microphones.
You should make a video of the Mojave MA-50. It's not a popular mic, but the people who have it say that it's better than most microphones (including every Rode mic). I have it and it's definitely great
1) TLM 103 2) Blue Mouse 3) Lauten Your voice is very nasally, and while a more masculine voice would sound great on the Lauten, you do better with the more delicate mics.
Yeah I’ve had it for a few weeks and have been putting it through it’s paces. I want to spend some more time with it and will be publishing a review in a few weeks.
@@Podcastage oh cool! I look forward to hearing your thoughts. From what I’ve gathered so far, it might replace the U87 as my “dream mic”… Anyway, great review on this one! I tend to really enjoy Lauren’s stuff, and this did not disappoint👍
If people only wanted a review of the mic without any software, hahaha. That’d be worthless considering the majority of the reason anyone is buying the mic would be for the software and DSP functionality.
This review was absolutely not helpful. I followed your advice about the NT1 and now I own a mic that is far better than the music it has to record. I will never need a 1600 USD mic. May want one though... Love your reviews, keep the good work !
I can't make up my mind on this particular microphone. It sounds decent but it's not singing to me. It's very...much just...there. Sort of like you hear something and it's there. But not where I'm like wow, this microphone sounds great, or wow that microphone is sibilant. This microphone is just...there.
If the mic doesn’t excite you then there are definitely going to be other mics that will likely work for ya. Of all the mics in the comparison which one did you prefer?
@@Podcastage Sure thing. The point I'm trying to say is that other microphones really had a reaction out of me. Whereas this microphone for some reason doesn't give me a reaction. hello, I am writing to you from Italy! I would like your opinion in your opinion this microphone can be a good buy to record rap voices? or i'm evaluating a sony c 100 .. what do you think? thanks to anyone who will answer
Personally I think if you have a good pop filter, the Rode NT1 is a much better bang for your buck than the Lauten Audio Atlantis and at about 1/7th of the cost depending what price you can get it at. The shock mount that comes with the Rode NT1 kit is also pretty good. For let's players or anyone who uses something that makes noise while they record, the background noise picked up is going to be really bad on the Lauten mic. The keyboard sounds were really prominent for a high quality mic. That makes voice acting in a decently soundproofed environment the likely use for this microphone for someone looking to make a living out of it. The shock mount is admittedly high quality, but there are other good quality shock mounts out there as well.

Thumbnail, hilarious. Bandrew put a member-berrie in the grill-mesh. I *love* that.
Hi have you ever featured the Samson S11 Cardioid Dynamic Mic in your channel? or have you ever owned one to compare it to the the new samson handheld dynamics? Thank You
I like the la fc387 based off your test.
10:51 Mojave Audio MA-201fet sound different among others.
Danke!
You are so kind Rainer. You are so generous.
Excellent video as always, the comparison I would like to hear is with that U67 you reviewed recently.
Oh hi Bandrew didn’t see you behind that giant chungus mic.
18:57 fashion
I am looking forward to upgrade my microphone for vocal only. Currently have only one nt1a but it doesn’t work on every voice and doesn’t take the processing so good at times… I love the ela m 251 but it’s way too expensive. So is the bock 251. The Atlantis is nice and on my top 5 list for my next purchase. So is the Tlm103, tlm49, 414 xlii and a used one year old U87ai I could get for the same price as the Atlantis… I really don’t know what to buy..
Bandrew, love ya Dude. There would be a lot of added value by showing a visual frequency representation of a lot of your tests.
Would love to see you review the new Mojave MA-37 or any Sony c37a clone.
Great review again!! Question tho, is there something up with the merch store? There’s no merch there. Take care man. ❤️
I always thought the design of Lauten’s grills were reminiscent of the astronaut Legoman… anyhoo, dope mic
Thank you so much for your great review. I think after watching i mostly think to myself, if am going to end up using EQ and other plugins then why bother buying such expensive mic??? what you reckon?
Good review brandon
hey Podcastage! can you do a video showcasing the compression behavior of that UA 610 channel strip?
I came herely here to check the dublidu to see what you didly did.
Bandrew rearranged his room and mirrored the footage to punch with his right hand and make it look like his left. Change my mind.
That shock mount could double as a laundry basket. Gotta be one of the biggest mics you’ve reviewed.
Now that you mention it. It might be the biggest mic I've reviewed. I think you're right.
@@Podcastage Until you get an EV 643…
The Atlantis has such a round and nice body
I liked the U87ai “hello Neumann”. I like that Sony C one hundo too
You should make a video of the Mojave MA-50. It's not a popular mic, but the people who have it say that it's better than most microphones (including every Rode mic). I have it and it's definitely great
Price is $599
I prefer it over my u87ai. The ma50 is an amazing mic in a treated space with a decent pre
hey. i'm just wandering if i buy a goxlr mini for my sm7b would i still need the cloudlifter. this would be really helpful thanks :)
Love the bearclaw on the acoustic
please review the beacn mic, it's insane!
When will you be reviewing the LCT 1040?
Can you review the Lauten Audio Clarion FC-357 and compare it to the Atlantis?
1) TLM 103 2) Blue Mouse 3) Lauten Your voice is very nasally, and while a more masculine voice would sound great on the Lauten, you do better with the more delicate mics.
Please do an updated review on the rode nt1 a
Have you seen the Lewitt LCT1040 yet? It looks wildly cool!
It's sad you did not want to review the Beacn mic because it does not support the Mac 😂
The gigantic capsule really has an effect on transient response. Either that or it's placebo, but I feel like I can hear something.
You are correct. The combination of size, spacing, tuning, and density creates a mild, natural compression similar to how the human ear behaves.
I've liked you on the KSM44, Earthwork Ethos, AKG C414, Rode NT1, Earthworks Icon Pro, Townsend Sphere L22, Austrian OC818, Presonus PX-1, Blue Mouse, Shure KSM32, Shure SM7B, JZ Vintage 11, Mackie Em91C, Neumann U87, U87, Neat Worker Bee, Earthworks SR314, Beyerdyanmic, M160, Stellar X2 Vintage, Neat King Bee, CAD E100s, Neumann KMS 105, Miktek T89, Rode NTG 3, SE Electronics SE4400a, TLM 103, Blue Encore 200, SE Electronics V7, Blue Baby Bottle SL, RE20, TLM 49, CAD GXL 2200, TLM 102, TLM 102 and Sennheiser E614.

A great example of the Atlantis is a video by Fab DuPont demonstrating the Universal Audio Twin with a great female singer.
Mr. DuPont was part of the design of the Atlantis with the owner of Lauten Audio. I'm not sure how much studio wizardry was used for the video but the Atlantis sounded fantastic.
I'm eyeing up a used Oceanus near me but the thing is like a huge can of tomato juice haha.
Check that video if you like for a different flavor. The Atlantis usually gets raving reviews from what I have seen. Lastly I'm really torn but leaning towards the LA-320 or a Neumann TLM 147. Good luck
I could hear strong lows and mids but no top sizzling , save the money or head to sweetwater for 36 months no interest get yourself a U87 and call it a day . Then just worry about getting work done !! Nice work Sir
can you please check out the brand new Fluid Audio Axis microphone?
really interesting budget microphone
thx mate ;)
hello, I am writing to you from Italy!
I would like your opinion in your opinion this microphone can be a good buy to record rap voices?
or i'm evaluating a sony c 100 ..
what do you think? thanks to anyone who will answer
Even the gentile setting had that "modern" sounding top end I thought. I'd want to EQ it.
@Osama Bin Laden yea this guy is drunk
agreed, i thought the rode nt1 was junk
Please review maono au a04 tr
Cual es según tu opinión el mejor micrófono que has probado ? Saludos
The figure-eight pattern did something weird to the tone of your voice.
