I'm thinking about the Lauten. My dream mic is the Soyuz 017. It's so frustrating to not be able to try them before I buy. I had a TLM 103 and honestly compared to my at4033 I just couldn't see the hype.
Great and very useful video! All the microphones in the world must love your voice Carl! Surprisingly in this instance I liked the AKG the best . I have wanted to buy a tlm 49 but now im not sure that it is an upgrade from my Gefell m930...another thing which makes me reconsider the Tlm 49 is the results I recently got with an old "made in Us" Shure sm57. Sometimes non-condenser mics surprises.

I like the TLM49 for how it takes processing as well as the natural character of a mic without a transformer. I want to try some Gefell stuff for sure as I’ve heard good stuff about them.
I still can't believe the TLM 49 doesn't come with a case but the TLM 103, TLM 107, and every other more expensive Neumann option does. It sounds so good!!!! Next favorite was the 414. A classic as always. Great informative vid man!
Mannn!!!! I totally agree! An 1700-1800 mic with a box is crazy. They could’ve just made a case the same size as the box. But tonally, I LOVE IT! The 414 is always in order in my opinion. It just works! I really honestly enjoy the DA87. It’s still has presence but isn’t overly excited on the top end.
They don't make their cases for the microphones with shockmounts. So when you buy the mic with the chockmount (aka Studio Set) it will not include a case. Neumann are weird with their accessories, and they charge an arm and and a leg for them. Certainly no people pleasers those good old germans. But they make great microphones.
The DA87 was surprisingly nice. Especially on your voice. Crispy yet warm. That one, and the Lauten on neutral were my favourites in this one. The forward mode was way to sharp for me though.
I think the da87 is one of the better u87 idea clones on the market. It has the nature of what the u87 is… utilitarian piece. I’m still looking for the right combination with Forward mode on the Lauten Audio mics. I haven’t actually ran into a source dark enough for it.
Carl can you do a broke cats series of mic tests. I tried to find mics that are versatile and dirt cheap . Cad m139, Mxl genesis, cad,eq 300, blue reactor, Rode nt2 but i will leave the line up to you. These are just suggestions.

TLM 103 IS REALLY GREAT AND THE AT 4040 FOR MY SETUP.
I recently bought the c414 XLS and it’s the best mic in my locker

My apologies but yes the xls is just a newer production run. I think they stopped the bXLS in the mid to late 2000s
