not just map makers, there are tens of thousands of players still playing 1.6 daily, on community run servers which further mod the game. Some of them could be considered whole server-side mods on their own, having little to nothing in common with the original game.
there's just something about a moddable 500mb game you can just immediately get anytime and play online without jumping through hoops that makes it timeless. The ability for the game to download custom resources from the server is priceless.

GMod's Hide 'n' Seek maps had the same vibe this map has, I've always loved playing them for this kind of stuff. Crawling into deep and dark places, or climbing on top of buildings while running away from friends and other people were really fun things to do at the time, and it's something Counter-Strike didn't have at the same extent, I guess. But by watching this video I got the same feeling I had ages ago playing on those hide 'n' seek maps. Dust2 with changes like this would make it a great map for sniping people around and grenade throws would be nuts. I mean, after so many years playing source games, is fun to sometimes forget you're inside a big box full of corridors with other people.

There is something about this SD aesthetic and warmness of the textures and all detail is more impressive just because of how challenging it is to squeeze it into GoldSource version of Hammer. I love all the quirky maps made for GoldSrc games, being just little passion projects of young fans of the games. Arguably CS Condition Zero/1.6 are better than CS Source at most things, CSS throws me off with its junkiness related to how it just focuses of physics, to have even grenades look horribly wrong when thrown or player animations being horrible. CS1.6 and Condition Zero look more proffesional while being simplier, and this nice aesthetic SD textures and assets have too...

I'm not sure why but seeing what people can do with old engines like this scratches certain itch I have. In a way it's more impressive than seeiing a photorealistic map in a modern day engine.

I like the concept of having a map that allows you to go outside the "sandbox" arena.

I feel so nostalgic. It hurts 😭
The good ol' days of Counter-strike from 2003 were ❤️
& this beauty of a map just solidifies the impact.
    I remember Justin 'NOTH1NG' DeJong.

I like the detail of the tank being a Panzer IV Ausf. J, a WW2 German tank hich were used by Syria during the Six Day War of 1967 which I think may be a prop from Day of Defeat but I'm not sure. Since the map is set in an unspecified Middle Eastern country, although the license plate of the car says "Egypt" but it can mean just that the car was registered there, the wreck of a German tank from the 1940s may seem odd but It's in the realm of possibility.
I just love when map creators add stuff like this that, as Philips said, make the map feel more like a real place rather than a corridor and kudos to the creator for doing his research into Middle Easter conflicts from the 20th. century

Back then we mappers had to try to be under the 600 wpolys threshold so that the FPS would not be awful on our maps. This level of detail is only achievable nowadays and I would be curious to see what are the peak amounts of wpolys this map can have. I'm quite sure that beautiful map would have been pretty much unplayable 15 years ago. Actually, that kind of reminds me of the picture mapping contests: beautiful and stunning maps but not meant to be played.
Ah... if only you did maps review 15 years ago, I'm sure I would have been on your radar and I would have loved my maps (being ESL branded ones or not) being reviewed by such a meticulous eye (de_trome, de_sunny, de_uevo, de_blue, aaa_* etc.).

This just proves my point that old engines, including Source, can look good if you're clever.

Astonishing map from in and out. CS1.6 is highly underappreciated by the young CSGO player base. The GoldSrc engine still has that factor who keeps everyone hooked.
