I've never saw that older source 2 map of dust 2 before. As the developer stated, it looks so much more realistic and like an actual place than current Dust 2 looks. Its really a shame how cartoony the game has evolved, some of the screenshots of that map and the building models are extremely realistic and if we had that map with the current source 2 lighting, I am sure it would look absolutely incredible Especially the screenshot at 9:53 looking down at long A looks truly like it has come from a real place. But I can only dream what could've been.

I wonder where he took the inspiration from. The inside of the restaurant looks exactly how I remember the Tangierine Café at Epcot, and the red building reminds me of the Tower of Terror (which was purposely styled to blend in with the Morocco pavilion that you can see it from due to its height).
What is crazy is that the Dust 2 remake was done in 2017, yet it is out in the intended form only now in 2023. That is six years of improvements that could have happened. Yet it is looking timeless and as fresh as ever. I bet they have even crazier stuff cooking, that we just dont see yet and will see in a few years.

The scaffolding is such a great idea to make the map feel more like a real place with a far more realistic layout while managing to keep the gameplay the same. Its made me think next time I make a map after I've got the layout down and I switch to making it look all pretty instead of making the ground, ground I could instead make it a bridge or scaffolding or maybe even a roof. Somehow this has completely opened my mind to an infinite amount of ideas. I sound crazy dont I? Oh well, luckily only I'll have ever been the one to read this.

I really would like Dota2-esque custom games in Counter Strike Source 2. Having same maps in different times of the day, different themes and maybe some adjusted layouts. I know of server browser, but an official page would bring in lot of players
They need to improve the server browser ASAP. If it had map thumbnails, bigger texts, a way to filter out gamemodes (without using tags), .. and it matched the game interface (instead of being an ugly gray menu) players'd play on community servers more frequently. To beginners it looks like an aircraft panel.
I remember back in the early 2000's when i read in a gamemagazine about the freshly released Counter Strike: Source. Seeing pictures of the game i found it really gorgeus, but i didnt really know what its about and how is the gameplay (i only played arena shooters before that game). I have read pages about how everyone loses their minds about 1.6, and i watched the videos of lan tournaments on the discs attached to the magazines. All i remember distinctively is the glowingly yellow dust 2, and the minimalistic yellow hud. It was so different than most games at the time, the pictures about the game looked something so different and distinct from everything else back then. When CS:GO released i already felt that that era will be over, and with it the style and atmosphere the game had, and nowadays younglings wouldnt even understand how different and unique this game felt back in the days. Im really sad about the cartoonish design choice.. and im really sad that more and more games go to this direction. Even the ones i believed to resist the changing of trends..

I think what they meant with more realistic, could be based on graphics programming, so the shaders and materials, even when cs got more and more cartoonish, the term realistic in graphics programming is often used for the light formular for calculating light, and how close it is to the real world. Pixar for example is leading in some of those areas even when they do it in animated Movies, because even when the results look like a cartoon or not real at all the light calculation behind can be more "realistic". In cs2 and also in half life alyx we see alot of light improvements reagarding the lightcalculation especcialy whith the use of reflection probes and vulumetric lighting. Sorry for nerding out a bit, but it feels good to know sometimes something in the most random topics thanks!

CS:GO is a no-fluff type game where everything must have a purpose, where in Valorant the maps are much more vibrant with random stuff going on in the background. Definitely sounds like a lot more fun for an artist to work on, even if I prefer the CS maps.
And also valve never having anything done. At some point you'll be so fed up with new projects getting scrapped you'll seek company that actually finishes them. Money is money, but they can't replace the sense of fulfillment you get from having your job done. But that probably mostly applies to artists lol

The prototype version looks absolutely amazing. It only needed minor tweaks and slightly better lighting and it was ready to go.

It's nowhere to be seen in HL:A. In fact, the only assets I recognize are some of the cables and electrical boxes, which were remade for the game.

You could add thin sheets (Sheets?) of wood to stop the scaffolding from being see through from below.
