The energy in this video is stronger than coffee
Annika is soooooo HYPED! :D
I had to double check that I didn't accidentally have it on 2x speed XD
Coffee brewed with energy drink 😂
Its pure unicornglitter Energy
Im watching it while drinking Coffee.... Brainburn 😂😂💕
Legend says if you say “squarespace” three times in the mirror Luciano will pop up and tell you all the things you can do with squarespace.
The first buttonhole is normally horizontal because if and when the garment is pulled left and right at the same time (like when we eat too much, okay, not "we", when "I" eat too much and have a food baby), the button would not slip through the buttonhole as easily and could hold its place
I was about to write that but checked to see if anyone else did. ;)
Frances Yu That makes a lot of sense! But why is it also the same on dresses, when the first button is like that near the neckline?
@@AnnikaVictoria24 My sewing teacher taught me that it is also for the same reason. Not the food baby part, but I guess the person who came up with such idea really want to keep the collar button in place?
Annika Victoria If you think about how a torso moves, it makes sense. Your shoulders and neck have a lot more back and forth movement and can put a lot more horizontal strain on that section of a shirt. The rest of your torso really only bends backwards and forwards and doesn’t really pull in any particular direction.
This is also why some shirts suck with boobs though because there’s a lot more stress where it isn’t built to handle it.
The bottom button on most shirts is also horizontal for the same reason.
Well that was one high energy video! 😂 glad you seem to be feeling better again ❤
I was thinking “2017 isn’t that out of season; it was just a couple of months ago.” Then I realized that it’s 2019, not 2018.
I had to look at my calendar just a couple of days ago, because I suddenly wasn’t sure about the year anymore 😆
The power isn’t strong with this one...
Michaela LaLonde RIGHT?! I feel like I skipped 2018 too!! How was 2017 a whole year and a bit ago now??
Oh my god you look so healthy and energized, I feel so happy seeing you like that, cause I know you had quite rough days lately. Keep on going strong sister!
Say “buttonholes” 5 times fast.
Easy! Of course, it starts to sound like "butt-in holes" 🤣 Is that because we Americans don't speak "proper" English and use so much slang with so many different accent?
Did anyone else think that said ‘buttholes” 😹😹
Zara is the one dislike. ✌💞✨😊
I cant i have lost my voice it does mean i at least have a few extra days to nap and sew wile re watching grage british bake off
Update this tutorial by adding pockets it's 2019
the top button hole is horizontal to prevent it from popping open since it gets tugged on a bit more then the other buttons!
You're so damn happy in this video! Love it!! This design might also make a cute strapless wrap dress (or mock wrap dress.) I've *reeeeeeealy* got to get through some of my half-done projects so I can try to actually make something for the Make Thrift Try challenge. I've been meaning to do something ever since you started it, but... life.
You're the best, chica! Hoping for a new WHRL soon (though I'm still laughing over the last one!)
I have another neat clothing hack! If you hand-sew on a button, add a little bit of transparent nailpolish to the thread. On either, or both sides! It helps the threads stay in place, not fray, is cheap, handy and it works on bought clothing too! I use it on all my cosplays :)
Girl, that tip to keep the elastic and the ruffles by sewing a line on the middle? GAMECHANGER. I'll totally recreate this, I'm on a gingham phase and this skirt is adorable! I'll just probably add more flare so it won't be so narrow. Awesome work!!!!
I love how high energy and happy you are in this video! Makes me think you've had a nice stretch of time without your pain flare ups, which you absolutely deserve! I love seeing you extra bubbley and happy cuz it just instantly makes me happy 😊
So true so true. I also noticed right off how healthy and rosy you are looking in this video. I hope you are feeli g as well as you look! :)
This skirt is so cute! Also the magic fabric is super satisfying. If you cut through the buttonholes with a seam ripper you can also put pins at each end of the buttonhole (perpendicular to the button hole) so you don't rip through the stitching at the end (I've done that before... it wasn't good)
You can also start at each end of the buttonhole and go to the middle so you don’t rip the ends. The pin idea is great, I didn’t know that one.
I was gonna say the same thing because I have done this before! No fun on a mostly finished garment!!
What I do is just start the button hole with the ripper and trim them out with tiny scissors. There is also a tiny tool that looks like a wood chisel, you use a hammer and block of wood. It works great, but requires a lot of tool gathering! Love sewing , it gives us the freedom to make our own look.
@@lilolmecj I really want a button hole chisel, it looks so easy and quick!
You could literally make your own wedding dress. Ur talent is beyond limits ❤️
WithWendy does that!
I am planning to! :D
Superstition says that every stitch the bride sews in her own wedding dress is a tear she will shed in the first year of her marriage
@@christinegallo4983I wonder why that is-I am making own dress
Christine Gallo ultimate loophole: E6000 that shit together haha
You can put a pin at the end of the buttonhole when using the seam ripper to avoid crying 5 minutes like I did when I went too far.
Belit Rodriguez I thought you said butthole and I got really disturbed until I reread it and saw it said buttonhole not butthole....I need sleep oml
I hope I remember this next time I make button holes.
I've had a sewing machine since 2015, just sitting in my room, it's been through 5 moves, thanks to you I took it out and figured it out for the first time, I made a rice bag for cramps. Thank you kindly.
You inspired me to make a Star Wars pinafore out of a pair of my dad's denim coveralls and Star Wars bedsheets from the 70s. It's all handsewn, but I even attached pockets. Thank you.
That sounds AMAZING! I'm so happy to have had a tiny part in the creation of such an awesome piece :D
sass, gingham, ella, and luci in only one video?? that's the content i want to see! uh, and of course the whole tutorial part :D
I’m also terrified of roller coasters and my friends keep dragging me on them. Resist Luci, it’s not worth it! (Also while this design isn’t something I would normally wear, I loved the geeking out over the magic fabric!) 😂
Honestly would never have even thought about buying that skirt from zara (even evil corporation-ness aside) but your skirt looks so good for summer that I'm genuinely concidering making a similar one!
sunny hara what did Zara do
ffliberty I love ur profile pic. I love Paul. And wow Imma dumb ass I shoulda guessed it 😂😂
when I saw you dancing around i got so happy i almost cried! hope youre doing well and thank you for the new video!
That is truly a magic fabric. Also, totally an awesome name for a band. And I decided, and started, my make thrift try entry already!!
Miriam Zisman what’s your game plan? I’m probably gonna deconstruct some plaid and gingham button-downs into a little off-the-shoulder dress with one of those square circle skirts
Seahorse Trash I have a bunch of mesh and tulle that I'm using. The holiday Purim is in a month so I need a costume. Dressing up with more of a concept costume than a costume costume. I'm going as the beach. Most of my tulle is antique gold colored and cream so I'm gonna use that as "sand" and I made a circle skirt out of a seashell patterned fabric
Ok one thing I really want to thank you soooo much right now. Thank you for putting both the metric system measurement and the inch system measurements. I come from Europa, with a friend we sometimes have trouble finding good stiching tutorial, and the ones with the inches are an instant no. It's just so nice from you to put both so that everyone can get it right.
Treka Double 😇🙂 I’m so glad you appreciate that!
Agreed! Inches doesn’t mean much to me so this is so helpful!!
This is so happy and upbeat and energetic I almost can't keep up. I love it.
I *just* binged a bunch of the old vids because I was missing you - perfect timing! 😊
(also, this skirt looks incredible!)
9:19 Bonus ponts for the Flatland reference! :D
Nobody:
Annika: Your glasses are 6 inches long.
Actually they are six inches wide...
I died when Riley showed up omg
also your hyperactive energy is adorable
😄👋
Riley J. Dennis aaaaaa hi!
8:48 my trick on this: use a wide twin/double needle for basting. Its much easier to gather with a single bobbin thread and the stability of two lines of stitching.
DID I watch the entire Squarespace ad because I LOVE Luciano+Annika together just being silly and cute!!! You're so smart Annika using your fiance as incentive. SO SMART!
Very cute skirt, just a tip with the seam ripper and buttonholes after seeing many of my sewing students slice right through by accident, if you start at one end and only slice to the middle then start other end to middle it prevents accidents of accidently slicing to far right through end of buttonholes lol I can't even count how many times I've seen one of my beginner sewers not realize how sharp a seam ripper can be and whoops lmao
OMG new vid. **Drops everything to watch!!!!**
it would also be really cute if you used strawberry or tomato shaped buttons!!
Love the energy you have in this video. Hope that means you've been having some really good (and hopefully pain free) days lately!
Rockclimer876 I have been! Thank you! It’s been soooooo nice!
Every time you do the "ruffler" I giggle every time.
Hot tip measure between the joints on your fingers, find one that’s 1” and then you have a ruler with you always!
your mannequin should be called your mannikain
Holy SHIT Annika I'm 43 seconds in and I'm considering watching the video at .75 speed because I have ADHD and it's 7:41am here and I haven't slept and you're making me all excited when I'm trying to watch you as a nightcap BUT that's not to say that I am not absolutely delighted to see you so giddy and energetic. I've had terrible sleep hygiene recently (recently meaning for 26 years) and struggling with fatigue and right now I am living vicariously through your vivacity.
Good on you for having taken it slow these last few months, despite the pressure you must have felt. We all support you trying to practise better self-care and I am beyond glad to see that it seems to have helped. I send you my love.
You're so bubbly and happy in this video! Loving the energy! Hope you're doing great!❤❤❤
I was very lost when you made a basic skirt and then started cutting, but it all came together in the end haha. Omg that ruffling foot for the sewing machine looked magical, it would have been very helpful when I was making the monstrosity that is the CKC patterns Blanche's frilly dress.
Your energy in this video is amazing haha!
I watched this with my mom and she says it’s beautiful and now she is on the hunt for turquoise magic fabric for me to also make this.
Love you and your videos always Annika ❤️
That intro! Crying!
I actually had to check my play speed to make sure this wasn't sped up lol you were going so fast in the beginning!!!
This video felt like destiny? Yesterday was the first time I ever thrifted fabrics (thanks to you) and I passed up on a pretty gingham I wanted to make a ruffly dress or skirt out of but passed because I WAS TO SCARED TO MESS IT UP I DIDNT EVEN WANT TO TRY. Are you a mind reader?
Go back and get the gingham!
annika you are seriously my favorite sewing channel. i really hate working with patterns, because they're so complicated and I often get lost without a visual aid . So, I'm really glad I found your channel. Not only do i really love how you make your tutorials so clear and easy to follow but you make them beginner friendly. thank you. xx
OMG!! I thought the puppy cameo was gonna make my day, but then you’re hanging out with Riley too?!?! I wasn’t ready for this much excitement lol 🥰 I love you both so much ❤️❤️❤️
😄💕
quick little tip Annika when open button holes with a seam ripper put a pin in the end of the buttonhole to prevent your seam ripper from going through the garment my friend has done it many time with her collars on the shirts she makes making her have to do the collar again or the whole shirt again
I love your tutorials and all the animations you use to explain! I just got my own (new to me) sewing machine and I've been practicing different stitches and I think I'm finally going to attempt a tutorial after years of watching your videos :) Thanks for doing what you do!
LOVE! I've only been wearing this style of skirt lately. I've never attempted to make my own clothes before but this looks pretty tempting!
Awww. I didn't know you were buds with Riley! Love you both!
I love how excited you are about the magic fabric!
I thought I had my playback speed faster - I checked it’s not.
You have so much energy in this video and I love it!!!!
youre so energetic and seem so happy here i love it and im so happy to see you happy!!!
I think the reason they do the horizontal buttonhole is because the vertical ones can be undone much easier. So having the horizontal one at the top is to make sure the skirt doesnt undo and fall off in public.
I hope that made sense lmao
Annika your energy is incredible... it's catching. It was great watching and hearing you. Thank you ❤
Riley!! this video was so fun in general and seeing riley as well just really made me smile :D and the dress turned out super cute!!
yay 😄
The finished skirt looked fantastic!
Also, walking ruler and "stop! hemming time." are my new favourite things. So many fun moments in this vid
This was so fun to watch. Magic fabric indeed. You always make me want to create and craft, thank you!!
"THIS IS A FAMILY FRIENDLY CHAN-- when the buttonholes were done..." 😂😂
And I love coffee as I loved your energy. Looking forward to all your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Love the little depth perception fun you had in there to make the instructions easy to visualise 💕
So glad to see you back to making Make Thrift Buy videos! Second one in a month! WhooHooo! Also, love that energy! This video makes me want to sew something, and I don't know the first thing about sewing!
Fun and detailed video, thank you! This is the pattern I have been looking for!
I love how this turned out! My favorite piece you"ve made so far!
I love your energy in this video :) you’re so happy and it’s so contagious
Annika you are so upbeat in the video!
I thought it was sped up for a second, it's Soo good to see you happy 😸🧡
Your dress in the measuring shots was stunning!
Omg you couldn't post this on a better day! Saw a really cute wrap skirt on Pinterest and wanted one, spent a lot of time on etsy and Amazon looking for some kind of pattern or something and finally give up to come to youtube! This was the first video on my recommended page!
i’m so happy you felt well enough to work on this project! i missed these videos and i hope you keep feeling up to posting sewing videos !
Omg I love how creative you got showing option 1 for attaching ruffles.
LOVE love love your make! Far nicer than mass made item's in both a stand point, and in reality just plain nicer! Must have a go at this!
Perfect timing! I’ve been looking for a skirt pattern like this for the last week. Now I can make it myself without a pattern. 😊
Ooo I have missed these vids!!😍😍
I made this skirt! I didn’t do the upward curve because I was too scared but I did the ruffle and buttons. I made mine out of an acid wash denim look tencel fabric and am super excited to wear it. I’m just getting back into sewing after a few years hiatus and your tutorials are just what I need.
Lol gotta love her.
"Then I just cut it"
Rips the fabric to size.. hands are the new scissors everyone.
It's so super cute! And you sound so upbeat! :D Glad to see all that energy :)
Your energy in this video is contagious, and it makes me so happy to see you this happy and bubbly! Also the skirt looks great! 🌸🌸🌸
I love your energy! And the skirt is super cute!
I liked this tutorial, you seemed so excited about this one! I like the energy.

I love the energy of this video so much! Makes me want to go and sew something!
Guuuuurl! I have been thinking about making a wrap skirt and dress for a while. You tutorial came in the perfect time😍😍😍
Girl, you are so talented! This is amazing!!
im excited by how excited you are!
That skirt is so cute! Thank you for explaining the math and how you made the skirt! I’m definitely going to use this video to make a skirt of my own! 😊🙌💕
you seem so happy in this video and that makes me feel happy!!!!
You did an amazing job!!! I love your energy
This looks so awesome and your humour was so so on point in this video. You seem super happy right now, really wonderful to see
I love how the skirt turned out! I just made a ruffled wrap skirt with a "simplicity" pattern, but yours looks sooo much easier and equally cute.
Absolutely fabouls! Reminds me of what I would wear when I was younger when all I would wear was gingham!
Last year, I spent weeeeks looking for something like this. YOU SAVED ME!!! Loved the tutorial! Thanks!!! 🖤
Loved this video, very well edited and very informative and fun. Keep up the good work 😊
