UPDATE: a lot of you asked if it is reversible. So I wore the dress backwards so you can see what it looks like! instagram.com/p/B4wGdRxH-NN/?igshid=mjnxyrwwowpg
That dress would look really cool with contrasting pockets and belt! Don’t forget to alter your pattern to match your alterations (I always forget to do this!)
This turned out so cute. So worth the public gaze on your back. Oh my gosh, I loved the timelapse song and the skit. Finally we meet Rodavnia. Get that side hustle💙
When you finish a long complicated seam only to realize the bobbin was empty for most of it. That scream- can totally relate. Why doesn't someone invent a sewing machine that just uses two normal size spools and abolish the bobbin. The tyranny of the bobbin must end. They don't hold enough thread/ They are proprietary to specific machines, so if you have more than one machine of different models, you can't interchange the bobbins. I just freaking hate bobbins.
SO happy you used the floral, the final dress is beautiful! The timelapse song now needs to be part of EVERY sewing/crafting/making video ever! It's so relatable to all crafting mediums, and entertainingly educates people as to just how much time really is involved in creating good quality finished projects.
Meg suggested "Sew Retro" Perfection! 💖 Sewing wraps in plaid (matching seams) is a special place in hell. 😈 My sister- in-laws sewed from these books in the 1980s, in Chinese! My Mom's patterns were blank tissue with no instructions... just a front and back drawing. I'm so blessed! (and loving your Time Lapse rap). Thanks 😊
It turned out so cute!! I mainly sew quilts & quilted bags but next year I want to venture into garment sewing, and you're one of my main inspirations for that ❤
Owhhh :D GOOD LUCK! It really isn't all that difficult. In fact, quilting seems really intimidating to me! (you have to be so accurate!) so I think you'll be fine!
Binding a quilt has given you a head start on sewing bias tape to wrap dresses/skirts, sleeveless tops, retro aprons, patch pockets, potholders, etc. Just keep your extra bobbins filled and on standby. 😁
Professor pin cushion has a tutorial for some pyramid shaped fabric weights I made them using scraps and all hand sewn it was a nice break from having to take out ALL MY SEWING GEAR and I use them all the time
I love that you leave in you whoopsy moments, as a new sewer I was always discouraged by these moments, but now I know that improvising is half of sewing! Thanks for the video, the dress is so cute!
So cute! You'll definitely get a lot of use out of that dress. I'm glad that the "mistakes" were actually happy accidents (nothing is more disappointing than realizing you goofed on a sewing project). I wish I had that pattern, I have the perfect fabric for it!
Pile it on... the dude just robbed the World Health Organization of $500 million during a global pandemic! Now he's claiming to have royal authority....Mitt Romney was so justified...so close to being impeached...sigh! 😭😭😭
How could a girl so cool be into sewing ? Annika, you make sewing so very cool!!! I’m like 2-3 times your age and I’ve sewn cool stuff since 1970 but you inspire me ! ❤️❤️❤️from crazy Flori-Duh USA
Yes! Super Sewist returns! The wrap dress turned out really nice! It looks like a toss up between adding a seam allowance or not adding one and you don't know until you start to make the pattern. I look forward to the next pattern.
Historical costuming nerd here. Piecing (the thing you did on the back piece) is actually a thing they did back in the day. So you didn’t screw up, you just used a historically accurate technique!😊
Ooh, ooh, Annika! Please consider making the dress you show us at 20:53 for your next video from this book! It looks so pretty, and I'm sure it would be a beautiful dress to throw on during your wedding day, maybe as a reception dress if you don't want your gorgeous wedding dress to possibly get damaged after you say your vows. Anyway, love this, and love you, sweetie! Fingers crossed that your loved ones stay safe from the fires out there. ♥️
Loved the timelapse song, its a classic! Also, that 80's pattern book is amazing and I love watching you figure out what it all means. Keep it up girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That turned out AMAZING!!!! I seriously need that book. I wrapped large washers from the hardware store with thin ribbon for my pattern weights. Before then I used random heavy objects as well, including a hatchet.
OMG, love this video, love the Weird 80s Pattern Book, love the photoshoot in the park, and thoroughly enjoy the superhero skit! Fantastic, I'm here for it.
Looks really nice. I actually sewed my own wedding dress earlier this year. I was heavily pregnant and had noooo desire to go dress shopping and was craving a comfy dress. Can't wait to see yours.
Yessss more from the book, I would've loved to see you use the pink florals on white base fabric on the top shelf but I can see it has potential to be something else too!
Dear Annika! The gingham on your fabric is a pattern, achieved by the weaving. A print is applied on the fabric after its woven or knitted. It is a lovely orange gingham/plaid (it's kind of a mix of both)
Loove how this turned out! What a sweet breezy shape too, the neckline is so nice. Would 100% watch this kinda thing again in a series, attempting to create items from weird vintage patterns thrifted!
That dress looks great on you! Might not have felt like it at the time, but it was well worth the struggle. Awesome end result. It's reassuring to know that even somebody with more fashion sewing experience than I do experiences *all of the struggles* with their projects sometimes.
It turned out great! I totally relate to your sewing... I make mistakes all the time too, and somehow we can still make lemonade out of lemons! It's beautiful!
girl that is adorable! i would totally watch this if it were a series! Now i kinda wanna make this dress! i think it would also be cute with exposed bias binding...
I left all my sewing stuff at home when I moved out for college but your videos inspire me to go get it 😁 don't know if it's a smart idea but it'll make me happy
It turned out so well! 👍🏽 For a future video, do you think you could show how to make a different type of shirred dress? I'd love to see a high neck/shirred bodice variation! ❤️
It was really fun and inspiring for a beginner sewer. Thank you! I would like to see more from this book or other vintage patterns. A hug from Brazil. P.S. I love the timelapse song
I agree with AngharadMac that the name should be "Vague Patterns"! Perfectly captures the struggle to understand/work through what is going on in that book, or other odd sources.
i got a sewing machine from my mother in law this sunday for my birthday on the 13th of november. Im sooo looking forward to sewing with you. totally the best mother in law ive had, and ive only been dating her son for 11 months.
Love how it turn out so glad you went with the floral print looks so good on you. Maybe you could do a video on DIY pattern weights and make yourself some as part of your scrap pile series. And thanks for another great video ❤
UPDATE: a lot of you asked if it is reversible. So I wore the dress backwards so you can see what it looks like! instagram.com/p/B4wGdRxH-NN/?igshid=mjnxyrwwowpg
Works both ways then, so cool!
@@rfldss89 how are you the only reply
IF this were to (theoretically) become a series,
a) would you watch it?
b) what should I call the series?? (theoretically, of course)
I think I saw someone (not me) say "that's sew vintage" as a name!
Yes Yes Yes, I would love to watch that.
I love your channel and videos.
Would definitely watch this!!!!!!!!!
I would watch!
Oh yes I would!!!!
That dress would look really cool with contrasting pockets and belt! Don’t forget to alter your pattern to match your alterations (I always forget to do this!)
The timelapse song is Oscar-worthy.
hahahaha thank you. I had so much time to sit and write it in my head as I was bias binding the dress... :P
Also the ad at the end was pretty well thought out too
You could call the series “Sew Retro!”

Yes
omg yesss
Great name!
This turned out so cute. So worth the public gaze on your back. Oh my gosh, I loved the timelapse song and the skit. Finally we meet Rodavnia. Get that side hustle💙
😜 thank you!! & If only defeating fast fashion was as easy as out-witting Rodavnia ;) haha
* whispers * Rebecca Page Patterns has a free pattern weight pattern. It's the perfect scrap buster.
Or just big washers from hardware store!
I use... stones
I use cutlery 😎
@@Dumpknoedel that's actually a brilliant idea, it's so obvious I can't believe I didn't think of that!
@@Dumpknoedel omg I have a bunch of stones in my garden, that is brilliant haha

The series could be called "I feel public gaze on my clothes!"
Bean The Dragon yes 😂
Bean The Dragon that’s what I was just thinking.
Love this name, it's hilarious
The best skill share ad ever. I love how the dress turned out!
I live for your skits. And I love that this dress was such a good reminder not to give up when it seems like you’ve screwed up.
I felt her pain when she realized her bobbin ran out of thred.
Empty bobbins are the bane of my life!! It is a constant bother.
I'm not sure which I love more. The shade @US elections OR the bias binding time lapse song.
SO happy you used the floral, the final dress is beautiful! The timelapse song now needs to be part of EVERY sewing/crafting/making video ever! It's so relatable to all crafting mediums, and entertainingly educates people as to just how much time really is involved in creating good quality finished projects.
Time lapse, yeah by Annika now available whenever music is found.
Meg suggested "Sew Retro"

if the person who made the pattern/book could see their work turn into this i think theyd shed one happy tear
I'd quite like a video that showed smaller sewing finishes, like French seams and how to bias bind!
You have the most creative skillshare ads I've ever seen XD

I need more of this content. It's so amusing to watch you figure out how to sew these things together.
Haha love your "pattern weights" 💪
Professor pin cushion has a tutorial for some pyramid shaped fabric weights I made them using scraps and all hand sewn it was a nice break from having to take out ALL MY SEWING GEAR and I use them all the time
The only advertisement I actually don't skip in UA-cam videos

You can download the pattern, I put it up as a pdf on my website!:)
I just really love Annika's transparency and humor when teaching a DIY!
Hands down THE BEST ad I've ever seen!!!
That was the best Skillshare ad I've ever seen!! Also, the dress turned out so well 😍
wasn't expecting that roast of the US electoral system but i'm here for this
We getting ~political~ on this sewing channel haha

15:30 😂 I can't tell you how many times this has happened and SAME my husband will be like what's wrong and I'll be like the 🤬 bobbin AAAGGHHH!
I've been checking the bobbin before doing long bits of sewing after being betrayed while hemming one too many times.

My name suggestions for the series would be 'Looks from The Book' or 'The Book Looks'
1. Super cute dress.
2. Your time lapse song is amazing.
Omg your channel has grown so much!!

Love the red shirt/white tights/socks outfit. You did a great job figuring this thing out. And the sketch at the end is great.
This dress looks sooo good on you!!! Please make more from this book! You are so fun to watch 😅
Too stinkin cute. Turned out very well. Your song was awesome!! And then you have your own fabric room!!
Loved the timelapse song, its a classic! Also, that 80's pattern book is amazing and I love watching you figure out what it all means. Keep it up girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omg this is such a cute dress! A cute winter option would be a denim and then layered with cute roll necks or button downs and fun tights!!! 😍
Oooooh yes!!! That would be adorable!
@@AnnikaVictoria24 ooooh! Or in a pretty light-weight wool! 🤔 so many ideas 😂

"UGH THE BOBBIN WENT OUT FOR ALL THAT"
Happened to me so many times I am now suspicious of the thing the moment I start sewing a long strip XD
I feel like this would look cute/vintage with denim

Adore the time lapse song. And the matching poses. Just an excellent video really - thanks!

Yes series please ❤️ “cool patterns explained poorly challenge”? 😂
It was really fun and inspiring for a beginner sewer. Thank you! I would like to see more from this book or other vintage patterns.

I'm so excited for your wedding dress!!
You are such a peach-I love watching your videos. I just got into sewing and hope I'll be able sew my own clothes one day.
Annika, you can make pattern weights from scrap fabrics and dry beans or rice! Seems like a great way to use scraps
Omg Annika I love this on you -- the styling w the blue beret and red lip is so cute!!
Love how it turn out so glad you went with the floral print looks so good on you. Maybe you could do a video on DIY pattern weights and make yourself some as part of your scrap pile series. And thanks for another great video ❤
Best advertisement EVER!! I normally fast forward through adds but I watched every second of this one. EXCELLENT JOB :)
you seemed so happy and excited in this video! i was smiling all the way through- loved this vid!!!
Ok but "Idea is your weapon" is weirdly motivational
