I love this and I am so glad to know there are others who press on despite mistakes. I’m NOT suggesting that Misery loves Miserable company. I’m saying being persistent is a beautiful thing!!!
If you’ve found this tutorial like me in 2024 and confused about the ties/waistband here are my top tips. Don’t even worry about cutting the waistband and adding those two little holes. I found it easier just skipping that part, and then using my buttonhole foot to sew in a hole after the waistband is done so I can see exactly where I’d want the ties to pass through. Also making the ties that passes through (that goes around your back) a bit longer so you can tighten the skirt waistband if you want. Also when sewing the ties initially, sew up one end of them so its nice and neat for the finished skirt.
Your skirt turned out amazing!!! Your channel inspired me to keep trying to sew and I'm currently working on a thrifted sack dress that is slowly becoming a puff sleeved blouse! Thank you so much for the positivity you're putting out there ♡ i hope your day treats you kindly!!
i need help for the waistband part. if the skirt is in between both layers of the waistband, won't the holes be blocked by the skirt, therefore it won't be possible to put the strings through the holes? im at this step now and im blocked. thank you!!
I've made two of these in the past couple of days, I love them so much. The video made it so quick and easy to make, and the skirts fit so well :) thankyou!!
I am so happy that you showed how to make a wrap skirt! I have a lovely green tartan pattern piece of material that I have been wanting to make into a wrap skirt.
Soybean please can you help me! Is the tie meant to run tucked into the waistband and out through the holes we made? I don’t understand how the holes we made in the waistband go!? Thank you!!!
I don't know if you would be interested, but I would love to see a long form series on a project that really tests the boundaries of your skills! Your clean style would be great with a more complex project that I feel like I could actually follow. The strawberry dress has been taking over my insta feed lately, just saying. 👀🍓
I bought two yards of a gorgeous and pretty pricey crepe fabric and i've been meaning to make a wrap skirt with it but i don't have much experience making clothing and i couldn't find a style i liked until i found your video, i'm still scared to ruin that beautiful fabric but i'll give it a try once i have some time to spare!
💜💛💙 When you said to use a better fabric, I started laughing! I just finished a wrap skirt (button-up) that I made out of herringbone cotton and it's super cute but the amount of fiddling was almost a deal-breaker! Next time I buy herringbone fabric, definitely going to make sure it's a wool blend
Thank you very much , this is very helpful Can you make a wrap skirt tutorial that uses elastic at the back? Or wrap skirt in satin . I thought it would be beautiful.
I am trying to make but am very confused what i need to do with the waist band. I cut for the holes, but now i have two separate waist band pieces? what am I misunderstanding?
Great skirt - smart and simple! Thanks for your explanations!!🤗 Have you added a blouse to match? It would be easy to match with this skirt - pretty well anything will go!!
I'm a little confused about the holes you left in the waistband. Are the ties sewn into the holes you made or are the holes there for you to feed the ties through and then tie?
Hi Sharon, made this skirt over the weekend and wearing it to work today. The tutorial was great and everything was clear, i made it almost exactly as you made it :) I am enjoying the look of the skirt while standing up, but today is windy where i am and there is a bit of a front panel flying up issue :( also when i sit down, the front panels are moving aside and exposing my thighs too much. Any solution for this, any modifications on the pattern that can help improve on this problem?
Hi! Hoping to make this soon. Couple questions - it looks like when you measure the back panel, you just do side hip, around the bum, to side hip. But when you measure for the two front panels, you measure all the way around the hips - Is that right, and why is that? I'm used to patterns that give you some kind of formula, like 1.5 x waist measurement / 2... etc.
100% use a button! In my christmas outfits for my family video i actually use this pattern to make a button version if you have time to check it out ❤❤
Hello! I'm also joining fabric together since my fabric is too narrow to be cut in one piece. When you added extra fabric did you also do a french seam?
Thank you for your tutorial. Amazing. I am going to do very soon. But I need to ask you 2 questions: Is this skirt cut on bias? From the flare of the skirt, it looks like it. How do I measure the cut for the waistline? :-)
I subscribed so fast! I'm still a very amateur sewist(?) I absolutely love your style and the way you produce these videos. Also, we have the same last name! (I married a Korean lol)
can you teach us flare wrap skirt??? and it looks easy but i'm sure i'll be making silly mistakes again, i've never made any darts before in any clothes hehe, you are doing really great sharon
Hello Sharon! Thank you so much for this video!!! I am a brand new sewer. Beginner of beginners. I have one question: The darts for the bum panel. You said you put them in the “1st and 3rd” sections after dividing it into 4 equal parts. I think I misunderstood you. So, are the darts entirely in the 1st and 3rd sections OR is the MIDDLE of the first dart on the line dividing the 1st and 2nd section and the second dart’s middle line between the 3rd and 4th? My darts ended up being off center because I put the first one entirely in the 1section and the second one entirely in the 3rd section. So unlike the front darts that are BOTH 5inches from the edge, my bum darts are off…
im working on this tutorial now and its coming out so cute! but i am super confused as to where the straps are sewed? I cant tell from the video or the photos :-/ are they both sewed into the hole in the waistband?
@@thatsstellar1111 a super nice person down below in the comments figured it out and explained it all in detail to me (in the answer to their comment) ! You're supposed to attach one tie at each end of the waistband and the hole is so you can pass on of the ties from underneath to attach it to the other !
hi does anyone know what the measurements are in metric system because she jumps from centimetres to inches a lot and i don’t think it helps my measurements be more accurate :(
soooo pretty, going to make it right now haha! i have been wanting to make a skirt like this and would have definitly made some mistakes, so i'm super happy about this tutorial popping up on my explore!! :)
i made one and it turned out so good! :) i used a light striped wool fabric to make it more appropriate for the season, i like it so much, thank you for this tutorial! i really liked the way you finished the waistband, thats going to be so useful for future projects :)
@@susibraun5346 Hi !! I'm actually not quite getting where the ties are supposed to be attached and what the purpose of the two holes in the waistband is, would you mind maybe explaining how you did it ? :)
@@hsf2649 i'll try :D the purpose of the holes is so that you can thread the tie through when you wear the skirt. you make two holes, because you fold the waisband in half when you attach it to the skirt. so that way the two holes overlap when you fold the waisband and you will be left with only one hole. if you would make only one hole, you would cover it with fabric once you fold the waisband and you then couldn't thread anything through, obviously. at 9:21 it shows where you have to wedge the ties between the waistband when you attach the waistband. Before this step you already sewed one side of the waistband onto the inner side of your skirt. so once you have done this, you fold the waistband "the wrong way", meaning right sides of the waistband touching. so in this step you dont fold it over the edge of the skirt, instead away from the skirt. (oh man, i really hops thats understandable, but just watch the video really closely). then you put the ties into the WASTBAND-fold. NOT between skirt and waistband. kind of in the middle of the waistband so not at the edge. and the you sew right along the corner of the waisband, really close to where the edge of your skirt ist. That way, when you flip the waistband right sides out and over the edges of the skirt (catching the raw upper edge of the skirt inside the waistband), you have a lovely clean edge all aroung. repeat on the other side and done. haha it's always so easy to show and so hard to write down :D i hope it helped you a bit, once you got it it's actually really easy. just try it and if you did it wrong you'll notice and you can always open it up again :) good luck!
@@susibraun5346 Thank you so much for explaining everything so well ! You really made my day :) I think I got confused because I pinned down the waistband so that it really "encased" the fabric of the skirt, so the hole still disappeared haha. Everything is much clearer thanks to you xxx
