@crissy214 That was the point: it's a huge contradiction. They claim to be "honorable" men, but they lie, steal, and kill anyone they don't like. With the exception of Bobby and Paulie who stayed single, they all cheated on their wives/partners, Gene "betrayed his friends", as did Paulie (by talking to Johnny Sack), Patsy never got over the death of his twin (even though his other 'family' "comes before everything"), and there are countless other dishonourable things committed by made men.
This concept of men of honor comes right out of the sicilian roots of the cosa nostra. Back then, the concept of honor was different from what we think of this day. Nonetheless, they never were men of honor, but just killers and thieves.

Just finished the show and I didn’t even realise that Eugene was the guy getting made with Christopher here - I always thought he was one of the more experienced members of the family
Best part is just how janky the whole process is. They have him waiting in a strip mall and then take him to a dingy run down basement for what’s supposed to be a momentous occasion he’s been waiting for years to obtain. Even the oath Tony makes them say is so basic and dumb.
Chrissy was nervous because he assumed Paulie and Silvio wanted to wack him. This is a replica scene from Goodfellows, where Tommy was wacked when going to be made.

This scene perfectly shows Chris’ mortal weakness and ultimately what gets him killed. When Silvio jokes “He sat on one ass cheek the whole way over” and everyone laughs it legitimately bothers Chris to the point he has to say “bullshit I sat funny!” Nobody was even laughing at him in this situation they were laughing with him, it was the definition of good natured ribbing and he couldn’t take it… he lets the same thing poison his relationship with Tony the night they had dinner with Tony Blundetto. They were all making jokes about each other, even Tony was fucking laughing at jokes about him, but one crack at Chris and he has an emotional breakdown

With the exception of Bobby and Paulie who stayed single, they all cheated on their wives/partners, Gene "betrayed his friends", as did Paulie (by talking to Johnny Sack), Patsy never got over the death of his twin (even though his other 'family' "comes before everything"), and there are countless other dishonourable things committed by made men.
This concept of men of honor comes right out of the sicilian roots of the cosa nostra. Back then, the concept of honor was different from what we think of this day. Nonetheless, they never were men of honor, but just killers and thieves.

This scene perfectly shows Chris’ mortal weakness and ultimately what gets him killed. When Silvio jokes “He sat on one ass cheek the whole way over” and everyone laughs it legitimately bothers Chris to the point he has to say “bullshit I sat funny!” Nobody was even laughing at him in this situation they were laughing with him, it was the definition of good natured ribbing and he couldn’t take it… he lets the same thing poison his relationship with Tony the night they had dinner with Tony Blundetto. They were all making jokes about each other, even Tony was fucking laughing at jokes about him, but one crack at Chris and he has an emotional breakdown
