One of my favorite fan theories is that Little Carmine is actually putting on a front the whole time that he's dumb and lets the others like Phil and Johnny Sack duke it out. He stays away from overt violence the whole time but he's consistently shown as having a lot of money and being eager to move into more legit business like he does with Chris and the movie studio and Hollywood stuff. When the series ends he'd be in one of the best positions to take over and consolidate power in New York and Jersey. Everyone else is mostly dead, in jail or broke or some combination of that. He'd have more money and influence than anybody and soldiers and captains would flock to him for work.
@markschade6951 I get it but I don't really believe that theory because I think one of the recurring themes in the Sopranos is that being the son of a made guy makes you grow up spoiled and immature. Little Carmine seemed like he was supposed to be the adult version of AJ and Jackie Jr.

Tony's biggest mistake was not killing Butchie right then when he went to beat up Coco. He had the gun pointed right at him - finger on the trigger (and I think there was a reason Chase shows us that). Butchie was the one that ultimately put out the hit on Tony after becoming boss of the Lupertazzi family
No way could Tony get a pass on killing Butchie. New York would instantly go after the entire crew, and they would have serious motivation behind it. It's different when Phil gets a boner and orders the hits. It's just the Boss overreacting. Butchie was probably high ranking (Capo at the very least) and definitely had lots of guys who supported him. They would be thirsty for blood.
What? No, that would've been a terrible move. You just speak after the fact with the assumption that he put the hit on Tony in the end, and even if that is true, at the time it would've been a brainless move to shoot him.
It seems to me Little Carmine became the Boss by the way that last sit down went. Butchie looked to Carmine for every answer. I think Carmine, after Johnny and Doc and Phil were all cleared, he stepped up easily with no push-back.

That's the whole reason why they killed him. It represents his insane greed, his plate was full yet he still took food off of other people plates despite having a full plate of food
@@SerraPontosSoc And you could tell it was going to happen by Phil's reaction. Phil was giving him a last meal, if he actually valued the guy he would have said "get your fork off my plate you greedy fuck".
Carmine Sr lowkey was the smartest one outta all the sociopathic bosses. He played his cards right and knew when and how to use certain things to his advantage
For these gangsters, the biggest psychological problem is that their work is not recognized by the society and the legal system. They know that their actions will eventually be severely punished, so they can never enjoy life and face morality like a normal person in their psychological world. Therefore, even though they have their own families and friends, they can never live like a normal person, and all their affection and friendship may be betrayed and deceived.
Butchie being that little and able to climb to underboss means he had to be pretty damn ferocious. And the way he stepped to Tony at the hospital, a lotta' heart. Also, it's funny how Janice always benefited from being related to Tony. She wacked Richie, Tony cleans up the mess. She gets beat up by goons for stealing the lady's prosthetic leg, Tony beats up the goon. Bobby gets wacked, Tony sees to it she gets compensated. Although most of these moves were to maintain Tony's reputation as a person to be respected and feared, she always benefited, lol.
Neither Janice nor Carmella had a single redeeming quality. Both played helpless when necessary, had no values, were total derivatives of the men in their lives. And were able to inflict guilt on their significant others just like Livia did to Tony. Carmella's total stupidity when dealing with AJ was a sin; when Tony tried to instill till some common sense discipline she destroyed Tony. Carmella and Janice ALWAYS played one person against another in every situation. And they were both completely insecure and were unable to mature in any way. Carmella's schoolgirl fixation with Furio was pathetic. The guys used violence to settle grievances; these two lived for the petty jealousies. ...just as evil, just not as violent. You can tell these women were based on Chase's real-life family experiences ....as a first-generation Italian, watching the maternal drama on this show is absolutely spot-on.
Tony is so slick, he 's securing a payout to Janice b/c he knows with Bobby out of the pic, it won't be long b4 Janice reaches out to him (but i loved how Tony always looked out for her, when she killed Richie Tony had her back & when the Russians roughed her up)....
Carmine is like his Father because he got a poker face.. See he mentions the bad shit ny did to Tony and Tony accepts and moves on, then he mentions Phils brother and shows Tony and who ever else in the room, that its something that Phil is never gonna let go of. He delivers the line like an off handed remark and Phil flies off the handle. So in the end, Phil got whacked because he lacked the ability to let go and move on and Tony didnt get whacked because he did everything he could to help Phil get over it, even while Phil was fuckin w Jersery....
NO he didnt... He was made in America, but the show is hollywood. The only reason David Chase weakly mumbled out he did was because actor JG was dead and there was gonna be NO future Sopranos movie. Little Carmine was said too many stupid things to be as stupid as he appeared. As for Phil; I thought he was a prick during the first run of the series. However after watching the series twice since then, I realize that all things considered; he was actually one of the more reasonable characters. He had a bit of a chip on his shoulder when he came out, but it was well within the bounds of what would be only natural, especially compared with people line Feech and Richie.
After a couple of viewings, I felt the same about Phil. But after this last run, I changed my mind. Phil is just a big baby. In fact, they're all big babies - none have the temperament to run the gig, except for Carmine Sr. All of their whiny egos got them killed
1:44 "Pick somebody over there". I dont know much about real mafia life or how accurate this is but it would terrify me being in that life knowing you could be killed just because they cant kill the one they want and they drew your name out of a hat
What if Butchie was the snitch informing the FBI? One of those 3 in the room with Phil - when considering wacking Tony - was the snitch. That same snitch told agent Harris which gas station they'd find Phil.
*In a world filled with loathsome characters, Butchie was by far the most unintimidating, yet smug & annoying character on the show, to think that little weasel brought down Phil & later Tony makes my blood boil. I'd take a sequel, spin-off season just to see him get his.*
Lol most unintimidating? Lol he wasn't even the most unintimidating guy in his crew. Lol they're are literaly two guys in the same scene at the bar that are exponentially less intimidating. If you think the Bald, non Italiab looking guy who makes the sheep joke is scarier thab Butchie you're crazy. I can tell you're not from the Northeast and never actually met real wise guys...
I think all the pieces were already in place for the hit to go down. Still, maybe Doc doing that eliminated any possibility of Phil calling it off at late notice. At the end of the day, I think Doc was a marked man and it ultimately didn't make a difference.
I didn’t realize how much of a war mongerer butchie was. I don’t see things going well for that family after Phil died, they had a run of great leaders. Carmine, John, and Phil ,even though he went crazy with vengeance and got himself killed. Nevertheless he was a stand up guy who demanded respect, was decisive, and knew how to flex his muscles. Butchie will run that family into the ground. They already look weak due to losing the war against the “glorified crew” Dimeo family. As for the Dimeos, I like to think Silvio comes out of his coma and makes Paulie his consiligere. Silvio for the mafia chess match and Paulie as his strong right arm. Both of those guys are seasoned veterans and were much less ambitious than Tony and Junior, and ambition seemed to lead to nothing but trouble throughout the show. Hopefully they got it running back to how Jackie ran it. Try to keep the peace, make sure everybody eats, and keep their noses out of New York and away from the five families.
@ 18:50 They didn't want to re-shoot the scene, so they went with it. Phil was the worst boss ever😂😂😂
Turn that off!
Phil is a great actor!!! He has played many mob movie parts!!!!

That last sit down between Tony and Butchie is such an incredible scene. What a masterpiece this show is.
8:26 THIS! This would have sent me into a murderous rage. Never touch the food on my plate. I just think that’s got to be one of the rudest things you can do at the dining table.
That's the whole reason why they killed him. It represents his insane greed, his plate was full yet he still took food off of other people plates despite having a full plate of food
@@SerraPontosSoc And you could tell it was going to happen by Phil's reaction. Phil was giving him a last meal, if he actually valued the guy he would have said "get your fork off my plate you greedy fuck".
lol *"ALRIGHT THEN"*
Carmine Sr lowkey was the smartest one outta all the sociopathic bosses.
They form their own, smaller society which rewards success with esteem and status.... normal society is for mooks and losers
Butch just wanted the position of power and used Phil
its a possibility but nothing indicated it. the garage scene? nah. he was loyal til Phil ran
Nope, Butchy knew Phil was off the rails and needed to be a scapegoat!!! Smart move actually!!!
Although most of these moves were to maintain Tony's reputation as a person to be respected and feared, she always benefited, lol.
lots of similarities to Sammy the Bull
16:28 - actually Christopher did get his finger pricked when he was made.
Butchie reminds me of Smegle of lord of the rings. Wicked lil creepy guy, but effective 😅😅😅

wow you know what...i see that
Carmine is like his Father because he got a poker face..
Cool story... except Tony did get whacked.
NO he didnt... He was made in America, but the show is hollywood. The only reason David Chase weakly mumbled out he did was because actor JG was dead and there was gonna be NO future Sopranos movie. so...after not wanting to wack tony earlier by saying stuff about how its wrong to wack a boss...now he switches to carmine sr. concept of considering the new jersey family as nothing more than a "glorified crew" thus deranking tony as a "boss" but more of as a capo of a large family....so now he can live with putting a hit out on tony since he no longer considers him to be a real "boss" of a family.
There’s no scraps in my scrapbook lol the way the other two look at each other like what?

Why did butchie reverse stance on the war? I might be forgetting some scenes but he went from "take out the senior management" to "maybe we need a truce" pretty abruptly.
he looked around Little Italy and it turned into China Town. Basically meaning it was all over.
also he knew he was probably better off with Carmine and no beef after he saw what was going on around him.
Phil was going off the rails and war costing too much going on for too long.
They took out upper management already
@@victorsforza6213 he underestimated it. It was like Tony said. War means deaths. Phil knew but went on. Butchie realized and stepped off. The china town thing is one of the brilliant sub texts the show gives.
@@victorsforza6213 also Butchie always saw Phil as the man. But when he ran away and hid like a girl, Butchie knew it didnt mean shit when its all lives and stuff.

@3:50 , why did u cut out the part where Tony says " I went somewhere...all I know is i NEVER want to go back" ? He implies that he was in Hell, and for Phil to live a better life.
It was all on purpose
1:44 "Pick somebody over there". I dont know much about real mafia life or how accurate this is but it would terrify me being in that life knowing you could be killed just because they cant kill the one they want and they drew your name out of a hat
Tony really liked Phil cause he talked to him on a human level.

@@ceerious borko ain't respectin old arrangements
