    • @cashflodigitalsportsnetwork
      @cashflodigitalsportsnetwork 3 роки тому +22

      your right, I’m on this episode now and thinking ahead I remember it being Patsy testing him however it was Sil, not having I’ll will towards Chrissy but to test his leadership knowing he wasn’t ready.
      He tried to tell Tony, but we know he is hard headed. So he showed him in that way to let Tony know Chrissy wasn’t ready for that level of leadership.

    • @mappingshaman5280
      @mappingshaman5280 Рік тому +3

      Well its because chris' rise came at his expense. Silvio is the underboss and he's been with Tony since the beginning so if anything happens to Tony he should be one of the best candidates to take his place, and unlike paulie for example, Silvio is generally loyal to Tony as shown when tonys in a coma and he forces him and vito to give carmela money. But none of that matters to Tony, all that matters is that Silvio "isn't blood" and chris is.

    • @Longknife
      @Longknife Рік тому +4

      @@mappingshaman5280 Nah, to me Silvio is just a logical operator. He senses weakness, yet that weakness is being promoted. Thus, he tests how capable Chris truly is and resents the potential drama that could unfold from giving someone special treatment. I don't think it's anything to do with jealousy or protecting his own position, I think Sil just recognizes the problem Tony's creating and is pulling strings to expose it as one.

    Patsy was a sharp, loyal guy. Obviously, we'll never know but it would be my guess that he probably became consigliere after what happened to Silvio.
    Also, small point in this scene but it shows how amazing the writing was on all levels. When Silvio names Chris as acting captain, the first to congratulate him is the biggest slime of them all, Ralph, and it seems, at least in part, to be genuine. The obvious thing would be to show Ralph sneering at the success of anyone other than himself. But the writers always made sure to show that these characters were complex and, therefore, surprising and interesting.

He passed over Patsy for Chris, who turned into a drug-addled liability. He gave Gigi a Captaincy. Gigi, though no fault of his own, was undermined by Ralphie and his crew and the stress killed him. Great analysis. One of the subtle and great things about The Sopranos is that Tony is not a great mobster, not even all that good really. Certainly he's not a great leader. After the old Capone movies, The Godfather, Goodfellas, etc. we were so used to seeing mobsters that were great, or at least did something noteworthy, that we expected that is what we were seeing in Tony, but that's not really what The Sopranos is about. Makes the show even more interesting, imo.

    Look at Sil @ 2:05. Looks at patsy then LP then looks down and knows that this is bad decision to make chrissy a capo. That pause and all too. its was a terrible move.

      thats also why sil backed patsy up on the tiles stuff. silvio never agreed with anything tony did for christopher, and sil def put chris in check multiple times.

    In retrospect it bothers me tony was such a control freak , killing Ralph , killing Christopher , sending feech back to prison ...they could have used those guys in the war against New York

    • @JudoP_slinging
      @JudoP_slinging 5 років тому +2

      Ralph is disloyal, impulsive and only cares for earning, would be a terrible wartime capo, though admittedly a good earner if it wasn't war. Tony predicted Feech would eventually move against him as he resented being away for so long and couldn't take orders from someone his junior, so a big risk to keep around. The perennial heroin and alcohol addict Chris was actually the only one worth keeping around because he was at least 100% loyal, though unreliable.

      He ended up giving more jobs anyways. Eugene, Patsy, Benny, Phil, Vito, Little Paulie, and a couple of others ended up getting no work jobs. Even Fin ended up with a no work job towards the end.

    2:09 Chrissy chopped that hand off and it’s not because he didn’t like Ralph “Remember my friend Ralph Cifarreto?”that little interaction right there really show how deep the mafia is you really gotta put in work when told Chris was zooted on H still had to pull up when Tony call and chop his friend Ralph up they wasn’t close but you can see Ralph is not a hater like Paulie & really was happy for Chris if Paulie was there it would’ve been a 3 sec clip of him frowning 🤚
