- Hi. My name is Darek and in this video I'll show you How to Make very cheap METAL WEIGHT PLATES DIY. I paid for each $2.5.
The most important is to find the old car flywheels. You will get them in the cars junkyard, if you choose a rusty, cracked or have other damage then they will be in the price of of scrap metal.
You need to choose the same or very similar. As you've seen I used flywheels of the Ford Fiesta and Opel Astra II, but depending on where you live, you will certainly find suitable.
Keep in mind the thickness of your bar, so after doing plates not found out that they can not be put on the bar :)
Sprocket, which I removed was not attached any screws, it was just simply pressed into the wheel. It is in the vast majority of cars.
If you do not have a welder, the pipe does not have to be. You can skip this step. I did it to make it more stable, but without this it will be okay :)
To clean, use a wire brush, I helped myself an angle grinder and went much faster than by hand.
Weight after finishing is some about 6.8 - 7.2 so rounded up to 7 kg.
Remember, the bigger the engine, the flywheel will be heavier :)

Damn! I bought some last summer from a local gym (at the moment most gyms sort these out and replace them with rubber coated ones to protect the floors) for €1/kg. I used them as a counter weight for a fork-lifter. Nice idea to salvage scrap.

I picked up some square 7kg metal plates from a scrap yard out of a combustion heater, for $1 each. The centre hole was a bit small so I got them bored out to 28 mm at a welding factory, to fit over the bar. They charged me $1 per hole, so I figured it was good value. I didn't need to paint them. The shape was a bit odd but they worked, and I needed extra weights and had little money.

Hi you are very creative and resource..recently i have been researching how to build a mobility scooter cheaply (most are every expensive) for my mother perhaps converting from a normal kickscooter(Not that i have a kickscooter but i am guessing it will be easier to build from there or maybe it will better to build from scratch?) perhaps using drill as motor r..i do not have any metal working skills or equipment...hopefully can build with bolts and connectors rather than wielding etc ...i would appreciate any suggestions and ideas...much thanks and appreciation..thanks again
Hey buddy. Building such a wheelchair is of course possible, but if you make any mistakes it can be very dangerous for your mom. I know that you want do well and this is beautiful gesture, but keep in mind safety first. If the power button or any other button is locked, then what can happen? I would be happy to help you, but I do not want to take responsibility if something goes wrong. I'm sorry. At your place I would try to find the damaged or ugly and to renew it. It will certainly be cheaper than normal, and your mom will be pleased to have you repaired for her.

That's a good job and all but that is not cheap unless someone gave you those tools.
How much do they weigh? I was thinking of using brake discs and drums. I have a scrap 70s GM pickup and Cadillac. I also thought of using front tractor wheels for deadlift or squat weights.
7 kilos, so around 15 1/2 lbs.

Very nice but they are not heavy enough... If u bench around 70-90 kg or deadlift and squat around 100-120 wich is kinda average u'll simply need too many of them... Nice idea though

Hmm przewody są krótkie i aluminiowe, uchwyty słabej jakości, szczególnie masowy, na pewno nie ma 200A, myślę, że 140 to max. Ogólnie spawa dobrze, nie przegrzewa się i dobrze mi się nią pracuje, ale gdybym jeszcze raz miał kupować spawarkę inwertorową to szukałbym czegoś lepszego :)

Zależy na jakiej długości. Na metrze ciężko będzie ugiąć, ale na dwóch lekko się wygnie.
