Wow, great job! Very detailed install video! The smart cap not only looks amazing aesthetically, but the functionality can’t be beat! Using the “wasted” space for the table install location is exactly what the community thrives for. When we get loaded down with gear, it’s nice to know you have a spot out of the way to store the table! Great job, Smart cap!
Thanks! Yeah, the stowaway table is super nice to have and is really easy to get to even when the bed is full of gear! Definitely one of my many favorite features about the SmartCap!
I've had mine on our 17 Ram for over a year now and we just love it!! Remember to retighten everything in about 6 months. Looks great and seems strong.
Ok filmmaking goals as always Scotty! I want to learn how to make that rad logo transition, and I'm definitely adopting the phrase, 'tickle the subscribe button' 😝
I’ve had my SmartCap EVO Sport for about a year and a half. Didn’t go together as easily. I remember putting it on my truck a week before my first trip out west to Colorado and Utah. The whole trip I was worried about the cap falling apart. I slept in the bed of my Tacoma with the tailgate and the SmartCap open for a week. Two additional trips out west and countless trail runs later and it’s still together on the truck
Aw man! I'm sorry to hear it didnt go together as easily! Glad to hear it's held up this long though! I was a little nervous when I put my RTT on top but I feel like the smartcap is definitely a better option over a fiberglass cap that may crack or break apart.
Good video. Just doing some research and I am wondering why pay twice the price for a modular system when you can get a Leer cap with all the same features installed. Lots of colour choices too and zero chance of leaks. Like I mentioned I was surprised on the cost; being modular it should be a lot cheaper because it would be so easy to mass produce like Ikea furnature. Maybe I am missing something.
Thanks! I appreciate the comment! I had considered a Leer or similar cap but I wanted to stay away from fiberglass. My truck has seen some pretty off camber trails and I didnt want the worry of cracking or chipping the cap. A Smartcap is a pretty pricey investment but I know that they are made in South Africa and I believe a factory recently opened in Texas so you are paying more for a labor rather than the cheaper "Alibaba" versions of the same cap that are made in China. I've seen an Alibaba cap up close and yeah, its a fraction of the cost but the cap definitely did not seem to be of a good quality and I could see some pretty bad flaws. But if youre looking for something more affordable and think the cap will be fine on trails or offroading some more extreme terrain, I'm sure the fiberglass options are a good choice as well! Thanks again for the comment and hopefully I was able to give some good insight on why I went with the Smartcap!
My wife suggested the Smartcap because it has a more “adventurous”look than the Leer 100XL that I was planning to put on my new Tundra TRD. I would have ordered the Leer in Smoked Mesquite to match the truck, and it would have looked fine. The Smartcap in black really compliments the metallic brown, goes well with the black TRD wheels and grill. It cost $1,200 more than the Leer, which isn’t bad considering the quality, materials, and features.
Looks great. Two potential issues I am hoping you can share some thoughts about now that you've used it for a year: Does it leak water, and if so where, including does it ever leak water thru the vent up top? How hot does it get inside in the heat of the summer? I ask this because I could go weeks at a time without ever needing to open it.
Thanks for the comment! So the Smartcap door used to hit the driver side awning as you can see at about the 24:40 mark of the video but I recently added a two inch spacer on top of my Prinsu rack to not only lift up the iKamper RTT and center it, but also bring in the iKamper awning a little closer so it's not sticking out as much. Doing this did help add some clearance to the Smartcap doors but it still just barely touches the bottom of the awning. Hope this helps!
Subbed. Your truck looks great! I installed the SmartCap on my 2023 TRD Off-Road last weekend and love it. Time for some upgraded tires. What lift and tires are you running?
Nope, no water leaks around the windows for me. I get a little leak in the back but I think it's mostly coming from the gap in the tailgate and the fender. I need to add fender braces and see if that fixes it.
@@ktate2002 Agreed. At the time I bought it, there weren't that many sellers nearby that I could easily drive to and even then, I'd rather put it together instead of someone else. If there was an actual SMARTCAP store nearby, I may have let them do it since it's their product.
Thanks for the vid! Just ordered mine. This is super helpful.

Thats awesome! Yeah, great call about retightening everything! Small things that you don't think about!
Love this detailed install and insight on the SmartCap! Just got mine on my Tundra and am loving it as well. Thanks for the great content!
Heck yeah! That's awesome! Glad you liked the video too! Hope all is well Dan!
How much does it cost?
Thanks
They cost around $4000

Thanks lady!! Lol!!
Is it water proof? Looks great, thanks for the video.

Does your smart cap side door fully open when your awning is deployed? Or is anything impeded?

How you get the ikamper up? Those things are so heavy
My dad helped me lift it up. You can check out the install here if youd like. ua-cam.com/video/wdp0kfCVR4I/v-deo.html

No water leak issues around the windows? Another year in review showed big problems with leaking and around the positive pressure air intake.

Can you share the website for me.
Thanks

I have a question, I’m looking at getting smart cap for my Tacoma, my question for you is. Can you unlock the locks from inside the truck bed?
nope, you get locked in there somehow you better be able to call for help.
I've been trying to order one for my 2021 RAM, and the payment part of their website keeps failing. Emailed their plant in Fort Worth. No reply.
Aw man, sorry to hear that. Maybe busy because of the holidays? Hopefully the issue gets fixed!
I got one of the sides on easy. The other side tabs wont go in as far. Still have big gaps. Any tips?
I took a rubber mallet and tapped it in. It took a good amount of taps but it eventurally got snug into place.
4k and you have to assemble it yourself..damn
Personally, I’d rather assemble it than anyone else.

That looks like a giant pain in the ass. Strong work
It had it's moments but it wasn't too bad actually. Definitely liking how strong the cap is.
