I have two $30 aluminum tables that fold much smaller and I can also throw them in my Jeep Gladiator as well. $500 for a table certainly seems like a lot of money to me.
Hey Austin! The brackets that came as part of my Maximus 3 kit for the Jeep Wrangler JL roof top support system was compatible. It included the needed parts which just so happened to mound in the rail system on the Smartcap. Thanks for watching.
Do you get any leaking in the rear where the back window meets the top of the tailgate? The Leer and Snugtops have a part that goes over the edge of the tailgate to prevent this. I really like the looks of the SmartCap so trying to see before spending the money.
@jasonmccabe6945 I have not had any of those issues and the design works really well. I should also mention that I always open the rear window on the Smartcap before opening the truck tailgate as well as close the tailgate before the window to help protect the window seal. Overall I am very happy. You won’t regret the investment.
Thanks @neildufresne5342! I am looking at options for the Gladiator. Everything is so expensive, but as ai said in the video, you do usually get what you pay for. Thanks for sharing, I am looking up the ACS right now. Cheers!
Nice video Just had my less than a year, For my experience this winter locks were really hard to open even with the latches , well it was-40F so can’t blame them 😂 but on a winter trips it’s gonna be a problem. Overall like their quality.
Thanks for checking it out. I have been quite surprised by how much I like it. Lots of competition starting to show itself now with competitive pricing.
Definitely! I feel that if you are going to have an open truck bed set up, something like this is a must. Wish I could swing one for my Gladiator as well.
Do you know of a way to use a pet screen over the sliding window opening? I get my 90lbs dog wouldn't jump out, but on warm days when the bugs are out... seems like a necessity.
Thanks for checking out the video. I have not had a screen set up for my dog. Sounds like a great idea. Maybe a custom job with some Velcro and screen from Amazon?
Appreciate your comments and thanks for watching. I utilized some mounting brackets that came as part of the Maximus 3 wrangler roof system. The rack itself has absolutely no interference with the doors as they open. The doors open up, but do not extend straight up. Appreciate your subscription as well. Enjoy the summer.
Firstly, thanks for the review. I'm thinking about bying one but i need an information i haven't found yet. Can you tell me what the max high between the tailgate/bed and the back opening is? So the top point of the frame from the window when it is open? I would like to take my bike with me without having to take it of but haven't found the number to see if it fits.
Hi @JanWinter! Thanks for checking out my video and subscribing. The smartcap on my 2019 Ford F350 measures 38 1/2 inches from the base of the truck bed to the top of the smartcap door edge. It does slightly taper towards the outer edges of the door. Best of luck with finding the best fit for your needs and enjoy the summer.
@@StormKingExpedition Thanks for the answer. Because of you I bought one for my 2018 F150 and it fits perfectly. Did you have problems with the third break light? Mine is not working. It works with the hazard lights but not with the breaks😅
I have had no issue with leaks. I will say that I always open the door on the cap before the tailgate and close the tailgate first to protect against wear on the rear seal.
Great question and thanks for checking out the video. It does close from the inside, yet you cannot utilize the locks from the inside. I do sleep in it occasionally and just pull it closed. I do believe that a company does offer a lock kit that does work from tye inside. I have not found it really necessary. Cheers!
Definitely an investment. There are some nice options out there, but I can not speak to their build quality. Best of luck on your shopping expedition.😂
Has anyone tried to add insulation to this topper? I would love to put a smartcap on a 2019 ram 2500 and travel with 2 dogs, but I’m concerned it would be too hot in summer or too cold in winter. Just wondering if anyone has any info on this. Thank you
@Michael-gw3je That is a great question and after spending last night in the bed at 28F degrees, I was thinking about how I will be insulating mine. I had not really considered the implication as it warms up. I am only guessing, but I would think that with a foam board insulation it may help keep the temps down? Hmmmm! I will share when I find out. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
@@StormKingExpedition best of luck. I came across a Reddit post in which a person did in fact use spray insulation between the support posts after having first sprayed lizard skin. I would love to purchase a smartcap, but not sure how safe it would be to have the dogs in there in summer or winter time…
All those accessories are good, but IMHO that stowaway table is the best of them, very useful and convenient.

This video convinced me to purchase the smart cap for my RAM, thank you for the review!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the review! How did you get the RhinoRack Pioneer Platform to mount onto the SmartCap?

Nice review, they're amazingly over engineered. I opted for a leitner acs forged for my Taco, might be an option to check out for your gladiator

Curious about your rhino rack with its size and what legs you use.
If there is any interference with the gull wing doors opening?

@@JanWinter-oz1zy Yes I did. Completely forgot about that. Try emailing this guy, he was helpful.

Nice video ,does the smart cap leak anywhere?
I have had no issue with leaks. I will say that I always open the door on the cap before the tailgate and close the tailgate first to protect against wear on the rear seal.
What’s the weight of the smart cap?
Thanks for checking out my video. I am not certain of the exact weight for mine, but the website says that they are between 168-198 lbs..

I would use 3m thinsulate insulation. Hands down best insulation I’ve used for my van.
