      Thanks so much! We do work well with them but we aren't doing as many shows as we used to with them....Seems like gigs go in cycles.

    It’s always fun to see what’s happening at a venue that The Sound Couple hasn’t visited in a while. While this particular venue has been featured in several past videos, the recent changes to the venue presented a new set of challenges. But, of course, Bart and Stacy rose to the occasion of these challenges with their usual professionalism.
    The use of the small ethernet switch should make the set-up, monitoring, and tweaking of the speakers through the PreSonus Worx Control software much easier. And, we saw some of the challenges presented by the use of the venue-provided stage lighting-though Stacy handled those challenges very well.
    Thanks to The Sound Couple for allowing us to see this gig unfold. We had lots to learn from this video and enjoyed the video very much.

      Hi Dean - glad you enjoyed the video...even though we were a bit rusty! The video actually came together much better than it felt like that night!

    It certainly pays to be prepared when going back to a venue you've not been to in a while... One of the venues I used to work on a near weekly basis has changed management, and the whole venue has changed. Power used to be plentiful with lots of commando outlets; now, it's just regular UK wall outlets that we can get to, and only a couple of them; so we have to be careful to not push the system hard and pop breakers (I set limiters on the speaker management to mitigate the risk).

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  7 місяців тому +1

      We have experienced that to where a venue management changes or a key person leaves and then you are stuck asking yourself if it's even worth it.

    Great to see you back again. I’ve been going through some of your older posts and toy can clearly see the difference in post length, quality, the gear etc - not to mention your love for what you are doing. From what I heard, the band were still playing their “old favourites” and if I’m correct the shape of the front stage was also different. Thanks for your interesting material.

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  8 місяців тому

      We appreciate your interest in our channel...Thanks! The front of the stage hasn't changed, but they extended the stage left wall and removed the drum riser. Going way back, it used to be a corner stage and they continue to make more modifications. The only thing we would ask is if they could cut a slot on the back stage wall to feed extension cords through...wouldn't take them but 5 minutes to make our lives even that much easier! The band has learned some new material...but yes, we probably are capturing a lot of what you have heard before!

    Would love a video on your tips and tricks you utilize when mixing. I'm one of the sound techs at our church and they use the SQ5 console. I'm always struggle with knowing what eq, compression, or gate to implement. We have a band with drums, keyboard, e guitar, a guitar, bass, and 3 vocalists. Would love your insight in a video at some point.

    Boy ! I don't know if there's a video about it, but it would be interesting to see a video telling "a review" about what you use for lighting models, brands, etc...
    Congratulations, as always, doing an excellent job overcoming the obstacles that each environment offers.
    Very cool !

    Thanks for the vid. Couple quick things: seems like a number of tablets for lighting, what’s going on? With the network switch why the switches in the case behind each stack? Wouldn’t it be better to run a single network switch to each stack as needed? And why use the cheap blue stuff? Something durable might be better long term. My systems are mostly passive so I’ll connect amp racks for network as needed.

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  8 місяців тому +1

      1 tablet was provided by the club to run their lights, the other 2 were ours...1 for Freedom Sticks and the other for the hazer. Stacy doesn't care to run the hazer so that's my job. The case for the switches I originally made for our 328's for their DSP, but don't use it much anymore for them. They each contain multiple length cat 5 cables of shorter to medium length. It's actually pretty nice because everything is ready to go..just unzip, plug in power and plug in the cable to the network jack of the speaker. The reason for the new switches is to make it easier for a longer run for when we fly the cabinets. The cables are not cheap...actually more of a pain since they contain a center plastic core which makes them stiff. I think they are cat 6 that I bought in bulk.

    • @MrSamsstudios
      @MrSamsstudios 8 місяців тому

      Way cool. So each speaker stack gets XLR, power and cat5(6), and there’s a switch as well as a stage box? Isn’t there a stage box by drums too (going off memory here)

    • @MrSamsstudios
      @MrSamsstudios 8 місяців тому

      When I fly boxes (not often) I’ll pack extra cable along with fly gear but those are its own package.

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  8 місяців тому +1

      @@MrSamsstudios Yes...the cat 5 to the cabinets is optional if we want to use Worx Control. And Yes, we were running 2 NSB 16:8's this night. The other one was by the drums and that's what we used to plug in the bands inputs from their monitor split.

    Instead of using those TP Link switches that require power at the source have you considered picking up the inexpensive Unifi Flex Mini 5 port that use PoE to power the switch? The only downside is your main rack would require a PoE switch to power the smaller Unifi ones.

      Something to consider if we were to ever start over from scratch. This was an attempt to supplement what we already have and not spend a lot of money.

    center fill is great, but id suggest a low profile box like the fbt ventis 206a, the cdl is just too big imo

    Bart , how many physical mixers do you have this time a16 channel version some video,s ago a 32 channel version , but most of the time you work with a tablet , what youprefer the most.

      There is a lot of information out there on these mixers. Hopefully our videos can help you, but we can't make that decision for you as it just depends on your needs and requirements. If you don't have a grasp of that yet, you are likely jumping in too deep and you should start out with a less complex system to learn and understand what works for you before making a big investment.

    Always run a cable. Wireless ( in particular 2.4) is a gimmick at best

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  8 місяців тому

      We have noticed that the brand or router seems to make a difference, the purpose you need wireless for, the distance you are bridging wifi and the environment. I am guessing the biggest factor that night was distance. It's something we can always try first, but if it doesn't work we can wire it. Probably be more successful when we are using our rack mixer so the wifi routers are closer to each other.
