I wish I saw this a year ago. Similar journey, same destination. I was mostly having issues with car finish primers dusting badly. A big factor was how I was applying, but I basically ruined a Harder & Steenbeck airbrush. Now I use Mr. Surfacer 1500, all four colors in succession, 1:1 with leveling thinner and it is miraculous.

Have you tried using it with any acrylic paints?

Have you ever used Badger Stynylrez primer. I’ve had issues with it clogging my airbrush. I’m going to try and thin it with Tamiya thinner. Just curious if you’ve ever tried it and what your ratio was. They claim Stynylrez doesn’t need thinned but it almost always clogs.

Oh im not professional like some of these guys here. I learn to experiment first with all types of knowledge. I have watched ( Bloodshot airbrush). And he uses fantastic cleaner in his paints acrylic only. He does his work professionally. Fantastic cleaner mix with paints or just clean. He said it doesn't clogs. And i watch ( night Shift). He does amazing stuff when painting tanks. I have send people on UA-cam telling of not to by this airbrush or that airbrush. I have send a guy pull his needle out from the front of his airbrush. Why he does this to keep from needle from benting it. Some of this stuff i saved to my phone. Because of good ideas and they have been doing this stuff from 20 years to 35 years. And thats good for me.

Hey, thanks for the note and great question...you could probably use their lacquer thinner, but I'd keep the brands in house if you're able. Check out some of my other videos, I have one titled "Perfect Primer" that talks to mixing!

You have to either use Tamiya Laquer thinner or Mr Color leveling thinner which works great. You can also thin Tamiya acrylics with laquer thinner as well. But you cannot use the X20A thinner for laquers.

-___- I went through this same journey lol. the Vallejo primers will work find for tabletop miniatures and such. Once I started sanding and panel lining with the Vallejo primers I found that they're a nightmare and started peeling and gunking up joints lol

Vallejo primer should be shot straight. So your problems with it may just be the side effects of trying to thin it because I use it all the time and it works fine.

Ah, I did not know that, thanks! Have you any problems with "lift?" The last time I used it I had some lift on a resin model, the surface was prepped and sanded, and I still got some lift on certain parts. Thanks again!

It's probably too late now and you should have that sorted out, but you can't use isopropyl alcohol or Tamiya acrylic thinner for Vallejo Primer or Vallejo paints. You can use either water or Vallejo Airbrush Thinner. Mind you that Vallejo Primer should be used directly, without the need for thinner.

Thanks for the comment and yea, I've switched over to Mr. Hobby. I still have my bottles of Vallejo and I'll consider using them UNTHINNED for future, larger builds. Thanks again, I really appreciate the note!

Lol. Don’t use tamiya thinner with the Vallejo primer. Shoot it straight. I’ve done 100’s of miniatures with the Vallejo primer.
Now for modification and sanding and stuff don’t use the Vallejo stuff

Primer is very tricky if you dont watch it. My opinion i d9n5 care of which your primers are or is.
