Part II where I get into how I recovered a poor paint job. As you’ll hear in the video, my biggest mistake here was not thinning my paint and keeping tabs on the tip of my airbrush for build up, don't make the same mistake that I did! My ideal gloss finish workflow: -Sanding and prep, avoid going below 600 grit -Primer, Mr. Surfacer 1500, thinned 1:1 -Sand w/3000 grit -Paint, three coats, one t...

X-29 update, my first time pouring resin to make a “raging sea” diorama base. If I had to do it all over again I would not use foam core as a mold. I found out after the fact there’s a huge market for silicone molds for this exact same application. Most of the molds I found online come in around $7. Harder & Steenbeck EVOLUTION CR Plus 0.4mm Review
Despite what some claim it is always best to use same brand products with one another but can agree with the experiences you've had with the aqueous Vallejo. My go to is Tamiya because of availability and it works well for me.
I had a similar experience. Tried Mr Priming Surfacer 1000 with a bit of Tamiya Lacquer thinner, and it immediately clogged my airbrush. Took a ton of vigorous scrubbing to get it all out. I was ready to denounce that primer and find something else, but when I tried it again with Mr Color Levelling Thinner (very approximately 50/50, I didn't measure it lol) it cleaned out with no issues just like regular paint would.
Have you tried using it with any acrylic paints?
Thanks for this! I'm currently gathering all the equipment I need to start airbrushing, and this primer is what I plan on starting with. Have a great weekend!
You didn't say how you prep the surphase for primer.... You sand in what grit??
Modelling is not a science
I wanna switch to mr. Finishing surfacer from vallejo primer but cant find any stock of mr color leveling thinner😂. Can i use tamiya lacquer thinner instead or their retarder type? Im kinda new to this hobby.
I wish I saw this a year ago. Similar journey, same destination. I was mostly having issues with car finish primers dusting badly. A big factor was how I was applying, but I basically ruined a Harder & Steenbeck airbrush. Now I use Mr. Surfacer 1500, all four colors in succession, 1:1 with leveling thinner and it is miraculous.
I have the same problem with vallejo primers and now i used tamiya fine surface primer the spray bottle works fine to me.
4everclear headlight clear coat works very well on Chrome paint. I don't know how long it'll last or how durable it is but you lose zero reflective.
I’m an auto painter and I just started using an airbrush for models and I was shocked how thin you’ve gotta make the paint, primer whatever lol thanks for the video…
wat a bad hit ^^
I tried what you showed, and the Mr Surface 1500 with their own leveling thinner MELTED the plastic cup! Did you have any of this issue as well?
Thanks for sharing. It’s a big help for me, cause I’ve been trying to switch over to airbrushing all my paints.
You can't use ratios......Because everybody is different. Some use a .2 or a .3 or a .5 needle. Some use as low as 14 psi up to maybe as high as 25 psi and all the combinations thereof.......You always have to do what works for your particular setup.
Thanks for the video
store your paints and Mr Surfacer upside down... keeps air from getting in even if the jar threads are fouled
thanks...i appreciate the heads up! nj
Thanks for this video! Great info
I've done a lot of testing with this primer, and in my experience I've found a ratio of 1 part Suracer 1500 to 2 parts Mr color leveling thinner works best through my .5 Iwata. 1 to 1 was too thick and the finish wasnt nearly as smooth. Also I premixed it and put it in a 60ml squeeze bottle so it's all ready to just squirt in the airbrush.
Does the Mr Leveling thinner work with the tamiya surfacing primers? The ones which come in the bottles
Yes it does have a play around, you will never find the answer, provide your own solution that works for you
@MrFelipefelop ok thanks for the reply
What size airbrush nuzzle do you use with this
Thank you for this video
Should hav edone a demo!
Hello what cleans the valejo paints best ? I've tryed alcohol and window cleaner , even hot water but it still leaves paint in my airbrush . Can you help?
thanks for saying dig it man :)
Is it possible to still get the Annual Gift Man Figure? a Big fan of the simpsona and I'm forming a collection. I'd love to have one of these. Please let me know... Hopefully you still can see this.
I never had issues with future floor finish before decals .I have a brand new bottle of pledge , But im still useing my old bottle of Future its about half empty and had it about 15 years. you need a small needle when spraying future so it wont pool. its great for canopy .
Dont turn your cap upside down. Keep it face up after you open the jar. Let it drip onto a paper towel. Paint will not enter the threads.
Thank you for the video.
I have heard..... but Need Confirmation...... CAN, "Aqua Gloss" be used on clear canopies of aircraft ( A/C ), many of us modellers have used 'Future' for A/C canopies and other "glass" applications to simulate that "glass-like finish". Modellers have "Dipped" their A/C canopies into the 'Future' solution, so my question is...... Can "Aqua Gloss" be used as a substitute for 'Future' to simulate a glass-like appearance?? AND Have you tried it???? Thanks in Advance
Good info thanks
Awesome video! Very helpful.
Have you ever used Mr Color in the Vallejo proposed
How do you recommend thinning Tamiya for hand brushing detail areas? Thanks for your helpful video.
Use a retarder and a flow improve at the same time in your thinner mix, small amounts experiment on scrap, sorted over time
it turns vallejo paint into goo. i havent had good resluts with that and acrylics.
A year later, this is why I came here. Vallejo primer turns to thick goo with Mr Color, for anyone coming for the same reason.
Great tips, thanks for sharing. I just found your channel and subbed so, I'll be checking out more of you videos. Have a great day. -David
Really great video, thank you for a thorough explanation here. I have struggled hard with Vallejo primer and I’ve upgraded to this but needed to know how to properly mix it. Appreciate it!
The new Flugel wings looks so dope.
Can I use my surfacer gray with metallic color
Problem with this Airbrush is, that you cannot dial in your paint and that is a problem in Detail work or for beginners. The weight of 50 gramms is just amazing.
Just bought this brush and love it...especially the self-centering nozzle. Although I would like to have a fan cap to use.
Why do people in this hobby always seem to refer to a clear varnish as "Top Coat"? Just because Mr. Hobby has a product in their clear varnish under that name, DOESN'T mean that always clears are a Top Coat. jfl at weebs and their Anime robot models.
I only see that in the Gundam community. That's because most people there don't paint aside from varnish, so the most common use of clears is as a finishing layer, hence "Top coat".
Great thinner, great - GREAT primer that Mr Color stuff
Great video, thanks! I arrived late at the party, but just a quick question: do you think it matters what brand of levelling thinner is used? I have a ton of Tamiya Lacquer thinner. Do you reckon I could use that instead of the Mr Color levelling thinner?
Yeah, recently got the black. it is fantastic..
So , Evolution al plus and infinity cr plus (2 in 1) , who better ? I want buy a airbrush, but both are beautiful, please help me.
I love watching all the shows supporting model making. I actually do mine EXACTLY like you do. It has always worked for me. I even mix my paints and primers the way you do with the pipette. Great job.
which do you recommend for metallics?
I tried 1200 thinned with Tamiya lacquer thinner retarder type. Did not spray good as the vallejo polyurethan primer. I found out that the temprature was the reason why, do not spray it in a cold room it will become grindy.
