Little bit of a correction the whole "blade is secondary character and female leads" stuff was actually a previous script for the film which was shut down quite a while ago, then when a new script was made Ali was actually very happy about it but turns out that script sucked and now theyre restarting everything

I'd suggest that the movies having female leads isn't the cause for the flops. (Heck, *exactly* with a male-dominated audience adding more boobs to the protagonist should make it easier to land a hit.)
No, the cause is simply the movies being bad, usually in terms of writing and depth.And there may be a correlation in that bad writers may try to compensate for their lack of ability by pandering to what they believe are important contemporary culture topics.
So, for those movies, flopping *and* having female leads are *both* symptoms of the same root cause, that being incompetent writers.
Would be fun to have a new franchise written up by someone with actual talent and vision, who goes for a female lead because it works well with the story and to prove it absolutely can be done.

How this differs from Alien is that they just started casting a role for Alien, didn't give a shit about gender, and the best fit was Sigourney Weaver. ... The job description didn't even mention women, and it shows in the rest of the movie because she kicks more ass than Duke Nukem has done in decades.

I saw a recording of a livestream done by an ex-lucasfilm employee (I think he was an animation programmer or something) that basically said that stuff like this is intentional. He said that Dave Filoni in 2016-17 (lucasflm creative director) stated that they have a responsibility to "make sure this never happens again," (in reference to Donald Trump being elected president). Keep in mind that this is specifically related to starwars but it would explain the stuff with marvel as well.
And what also blows my mind is that the Director of the John Wick Movies wanted to make a Blade Movie and Kevin Feige turned him down, and now look where this Blade Movie is at! He doesn’t want the Director of the John Wick Movies but he’ll have Directors who want to make Blade a side character in his own Movie and have his Daughter and her Friends as the main characters.
A Blade movie where he's a secondary character, with a female lead... Knowing Marvel, there's an 90% chance of this female lead being 'Bloodline' his daughter that was created in 2022.

As Blizzard's process for developing Overwatch characters shows us: there's a clear hierarchy when it comes to representation. Female Anything > Black Male. Now if the Black Male was also gay, autistic, and in a wheelchair then he'd have enough representation points to stand a fighting chance to be picked for the main character.

No version of a fictional story is more real than any other. There is no "story" to be owned outside of how people imagine it; no story outside of people's perceptions, and those you cannot own. This is literally what happened to Blade 3. They brought in Ryan Reynolds and some white girl out of nowhere and gave them half the spotlight. They even gave Blade this super amazing cool triple shotgun thing and he NEVER got to be a badass with it. The next time that gun showed up was in a whole different tv show - Stargate Atlantis lol.

Wesley Snipes and Kris Kristofferson, who at the time had become good friends after working on the two previous Blade-installments, were reportedly unhappy with this movie and with David S. Goyer's script decisions. They felt that too many new characters were added to the universe, and that Blade did not need any sidekicks besides Whistler.

for clarification, film plot that was "leaked", set in medieval times, bad girl wants blades blood to make a army of day walkers. finds out he has a daughter, also a vampire hunter, they kidnap daughter, make day walkers, daughter cant beat them, blade comes at end and kills everything.

They've already done this several times over. Loki ended up being a show about women instead of Loki, Hawkeye ended up being a show about his daughter, Doctor strange ended up being about wanda.
The Flash tv show ended up being about the "team" instead of The Flash. It went from great, slowly to horrible.
did you really watch them? loki was about loki, the female loki was sidelined in season 2 and barely had any screentime especially from the point loki started time slipping while in season 1 she was loki's love interest. Hawkeye wasnt about his daughter he was a main character and mentor of kate bishop, in dr strange wanda is the villain she appeared only when she needed to and the other girl that was with strange wasnt even doing much she was heavily carried by him until the end the movie since it was HIS movie

@@KingNiros in loki one of the main characters was a man mobius, he who remains was a big plot point and one of his variants and had massive importance to the show, there was a nerd guy that was important meanwhile there where 2 other main female side characters the a guard a not that important character and the temporary villain ex of mobius (aside from loki girl)
in hawkeye echo had a small amount of screentime, natasha's sister (due to hawkeye "killing" natasha in endgame) had screentime both as villains until the last episode where they switched sides with the main bad guy being kingpin
@@argy7526 I don't know what shows you did watch, but it was not the ones I did. Loki was so insufferably pathetic I could not finish the second episode and canceled my subscription. Dr Strange was so horrendously bad I never went to the theaters again. I don't spend my hard earned cash in garbage.

Well he sure showed them, by not even coming out of his trailer. So they had to focus it even more on the other characters because Snipes was pouting in his trailer.
@@mvprime8 I can't blame Wesley... By that time Hollywood was starting their shift to what it is now (although much more subtle than it is now). And Blade IS supposed to be the main character and focus of the BLADE stories/lore.
Much like they did with Fury Road, they attempted to side line Max on his own franchise, instead of focusing mostly on him. At least in the last Mad Max game, he was the solo focus of the story, with some girls sidelined to move the plot along. It helped that the gameplay was stellar.
Why do you think Henry Cavil is walking away from the things he once loved? At least he has his principles (and it helps that he's already rich and has FU money).
The Witcher did it. The Hawkeye and Loki series on D+ did it. She-Hulk treated Banner like garbage. They're pushing Iron Heart and Captain Marvel/Ms. Marvel. Black Panther is his sister now. Rings of Power is focusing on making Galadriel the most important character in the series.

@@blurgalsklech2929 I'd say this is the worst affront they did. A movie about the roles of fatherhood in the black community. Continuing the theme from BP 1. Imagine how powerful that movie could be. Black Panther's young male son dealing with the sudden death and absence of his father. But no they jumped at the chance to self insert girl boss.

They actively ruin franchises with intention. There is no denying that. They can make all the new and original movies with all female cast and this and that, but they choose to ruin existing franchises. The fans of those will not like it, they know that. It will be a box office disaster, they know that. So there really is no other explanation.

I would have thought they would have been all over this considering the main character's skin tone. They're really desperate to just ruin everything they touch. Losing someone as awesome as Mahershala is just flushing the project.

They would have never been able to put the lightning back in the bottle. Blade was a product and also a visual narrative of the times they were in. It was mainly symbolic. That club scene is one of the best pieces of cinema ever.
Its funny cuz bloodline(blades daughter) is very well written in the comics would be great for her to have a mini series to setup bigger conflicts
Literally all they had to do was have 6 months of combat/acrobatics/etc training for Ali and the rest of the crew, leather him up, throw a good portion of the budget to Chemical Brothers, set cameras in streets and in goth clubs and let the whole thing rip. HOW HARD IS THAT?

they/marvel tried to get the real blade for like 10y, they talked to him back and forth when he was in prison, for the reboot, but could not make a deal and then Disney bought marvel and they stopped negotiations with Wesley Snipes

20 years is more realistic imo - you can capitalize on it for a generation and then it's free game.
10 years if it belongs to the corp itself, 20 if it belongs to the individual creator. That way, companies can't have monopolies, but individuals are rewaded heavily for creating successful projects

Whyyyy, Blade is honestly one of my favorite series of movies to watch randomly every few years. It was one of the first action movies i watched as a kid too. Why do they need to keep ruining these movies...
Whoever was responsible for Madam Web should have immediately had this and any of thier other ideas removed from Marvel. Its pretty obvious
Paramount did it with Knuckles, Netflix did it with Scott Pilgrim (though I hear that was the author's choice). Apparently, being a titular character these days automatically disqualifies you from being the main character.

Pfew Marvel looked at the whole Netflix Cleopatra stuff, thought that was great, put all their shit in the oven and started cooking. Then, when it was done a couple months later, released it and noticed the cleopatra shit didnt go well. Turns out what they were cooking was burned from the beginning.
