    Nice fabrication work. Looks like they both work nicely lol I was surprised at the take off of the 420 it looks fast.

      Thanks the gearing was about the same the RPMs were about the same I ended up putting the 670 on the small frame change the gearing I've got a 750 Nighthawk on the bigger frame working on a Mazda Miata rear end

    Wow, those karts you built are impressive!
    I watched one of your other videos and was really impressed by the power that the 420 engine has, what a beast!
    That 670 is just on another level though😂 I wonder how they would match up if traction were the same. Undoubtedly the 670 has more, just curious how much more it would seem to feel like in “seat of the pants performance”
    I’m working on a kart with an 18hp vanguard twin and I’m getting close to being able to ride it. I’ll post a vid when I test it.
    Depending on how the performance is, I might try a 420 on my next project!
    Keep up the good work!

      That was a while ago I now have the 670 on the purple one and the 750cc on the red one. I overrode the governor on the 420 and messed it up got up to 5000 RPMs couldn't tell much of a difference.

      Thanks man they've built a lot more stuff than me they must have more money and more time. I think I've watched all of their videos though so I learned quite a bit from them to be fair. I paid 400 for the year of dog and I think that was too much. The motor didn't run but I knew I wanted to put a 670 on it so that didn't matter. The learning curve came in because I couldn't reuse the axle those things just about fuse together if they're not bent in the first place so sprockets tires rims Wheels bearings all that crap I had to cut it off. Not a huge big deal but just understand that's probably going to be the case. You definitely want a torque converter and you're going to get bored if it's any smaller than 8 horse I would get a harbor freight 420 13hp get a 40 series torque converter with that. If you start doing it any Governor modifications that all you're going to want a cheap tachometer / hour meter for like 10 bucks on Amazon I ran the one that I had up to 5000 RPMs it's rated at 3600 it's pretty much brand new and now it won't start so I would need to take it apart and see what bent. It's really not worth it to do high performance stuff on a cheap motor just get something that's fairly powerful like a 13 horsepower and then gear it cuz it's going to have more torque then gear it how you like it and don't try to modify it for high RPMs it's a waste of time and money really. The Predator 670 22 horsepower is rated 4000 RPMs and I'm comfortable going to 4300 maybe even five

    Where you get the very the large sprockets? And are they one inch axles?

    • @ians1464
      @ians1464  3 роки тому

      They are roller chain sprockets. Got them off eBay and Amazon one is a 40 series 1 is a 50 series and you can put 530 motorcycle chain on the 50 series. Take a thin Piece a metal plate drill a quarter inch hole in it as guide for your whole saw Measure the whole to be centred clamped down with some vice grips drill the size hole you need. Little more tricky are the holes for the sprocket to mount to. Plus I drilled all those holes in it to make it lighter

    How would this do with some one who weighs about 350? I'm trying to build some thing

    • @ians1464
      @ians1464  5 років тому

      670 all the way it's got way more power you're just going to need a good torque converter this one's a duster 94 and I had to get the heaviest weights and add more and change the spring I think maybe do a pink one. Looks like gopowersports has one similar I think they're calling it as 780. I'm building one right now and I want to put a motorcycle engine on it. It's actually the red one that I want ahead and put four wheeler front end on it I think maybe I can make a thick cable as the shifter lever. But if you can get a fully functioning 500cc motorcycle engine for a thousand bucks you got the gears the power and that's about what you're going to put into a good clutch and a Harbor Freight 670. I want to set my motorcycle engine up with their original handlebars of the bike and the shifter just like it would be on the bike

    • @ians1464
      @ians1464  5 років тому

      Not sure if I made the point clear but a 670 at about $700 and a good $500 clutch you can buy a decent running motorcycle for that 500 or better and I think that's what I would go with

  • @ians1464
    @ians1464  6 років тому +1

    They're both almost identical in speed the smaller one might actually be quicker because it's so much lighter but gearing is within a couple of teeth. Plus the torque converter on the bigger one has a wider range so it goes about 35 top end and the smaller ones about 30 what made the biggest difference in quickness with the big one was cutting his much weight as possible I built it too heavy everything on the axle that I could and when I built this smaller when I built it as light as I could

    Are the internals of 670 motor basically sock? What all have you done to them?

    • @ians1464
      @ians1464  6 років тому +2

      The red one with the 670 got submerged but yes I didn't remove the governor or override it was right around 4100 RPMs. The purple one I override the governor got it up to about 5000 RPMs to see if it was worth it to take it out wasn't impressed and that won't start so I got another 670. I put I 670 on the purple one still completely stock but I had to put a lot of springs on the governor to get it up to 4100 RPMs. Unlike the other one and now I've got the duster clutch off the red one on the purple one also I think the purple one probably weighs half as much it's got a lot of torque. They're geared as low as I can possibly gear them. I'm looking for a motorcycle engine now for the red one

      yeah but I want them to spen as much as possible the red one just got completely submerged I took the engine off and I think it's going to start. I can't believe how heavy it is compared to the purple one it's probably twice as heavy I'd like to put that clutch on the light one and see what happens

  • @nate32185
    @nate32185 6 років тому

    What size rear sprockets you running?

    • @ians1464
      @ians1464  6 років тому

      Nate32185 the red one was a Yerf-Dog it came with a 10 tooth sprocket on the front and a 60 tooth in the back with a 6 & a half horsepower. It now has a three-quarter inch jackshaft so the smallest tooth I could get on there I believe was a 9 the purple one has a 5/8 in Jack shaft that you can get an 8 tooth sprocket on it. One is a 50 Series the big one and one is a 40 and I think they're both around 70 to 80 teeth I think they measured about 14 in across and I know they have about 3 inches of clearance so it depends on your tire size I did have some 22 inch tires but now I think they're 20. I was going for maximum bottom-end torque because they're so close to the ground you're going to want to make a guard for the sprocket. Would probably be a good idea if you can adjust it to

    • @ians1464
      @ians1464  6 років тому

      They are industrial chain sprockets the big one is a 50 Series and I've gota motorcycle 530 chain on it the smaller one is a 40 series and I'm using heavy duty 40 series chain I usually get them on eBay I've seen them on Amazon I got a really good deal on one on Amazon before. I took a hole saw and drilled holes all the way around it to lighten them up a lot those big sprockets are very heavy it made a big difference

    • @nate32185
      @nate32185 6 років тому

      Yup, that’s why I couldn’t find them. Those holes you drilled make the sprockets look so badass! I might have to pull a page out of your book Ian. Great job on both karts.

    I'm almost done with my build,,,check it out on my UA-cam channel,,,,that being said,,, I've built a 420 with stage 2. .308 cam, ARC billet flywheel, 32 mm Mikuni carb. There are absolutely no videos with 420 modified cam ECT. Ect. On an offroad buggy. How fast? What gearing for out of the hole ripping it! Lol,,, so I'm on a mission--video coming out in a couple of weeks. My first build,,not a gear head but love to offroad on my farm. Post another video when you get a chance!!! Thank you!

    • @ians1464
      @ians1464  4 роки тому

      Started off with it geared a little over 20 and then a little over 40 when you start getting over it feels a little sketchy. It's so light I couldn't really tell a difference bottom end. Rear sprocket is almost the size of the tire 40 series for the front sprocket originally was eight tooth then I think the last one was about 12. The rear one was probably about 70 I put the 670 engine on it and sold it
